Let me tell you one thing…The way this bakery changed my whole life last week. I’m a NY’er with no knowledge or expertise around LA bakeries and I needed a birthday cake for a party in LA last week. I’ve heard many great things about this bakery so I took a chance and ordered a Lemon Birthday Cake. The cake was seriously out of this world! The texture, the crumb, the icing, the butter, everything! I could have slapped somebody it was so darn good. I knew I was in love when I ate 3 slices of cake in one sitting. This was my second time coming to this establishment as I live in Sacramento. The cupcakes are too die for. I had a Carmel Chocolate, Red Velvet, Lemon, and Sweet Potato. My first customer service experience was excellent, BUT today...was not so good. There were two young ladies working and was not very attentive. I had to ask questions twice do to them talking to each other about something not bakery related. I would have gave 5 stars because the cupcakes are that good, but customer service was very off today ☹

The best everything!the employees are ALL kind and PRETTY! Please dont buy up everything of one item just cause u heard someone else say its good. This is going to disrupt there business and thats selfish. They make way more than enough for almost anyone buying. Over all I say u have try everything and take a menu with you. Also tell someone else how great this bakery is.

It was delicious & the staff here was so very friendly & personable....I felt at home in here. Due to construction at the mall it wasnt easy to find the entrance & we called them. They had our order ready & waiting for us even though it was literally FIVE minutes before closing. They didnt rush us out the door & answered all of our questions. The next time that Im in the area I will make it my business to support them.

The cookies are amazing. You have to call and order 30 minutes in advance, but the cookies are made fresh. I cant wait to go back. The banana pudding is also one of my favorites.

Had a birthday party May 1, 2021. Decided to have a dessert bar. Have always been happy with Southern Girl in the past. My friend order 2 sweet potato pies, that were undercooked. 1 lemon cake that was undercooked. 2 peach cobblers, while they weren’t the best looking cobblers, one was very good, while the other one was undercooked. The oatmeal cookies and chocolate chip cookies were the star of the show. They were very good. The sweet potato cake was also very good and very pretty. The total was $323.41 which included a $30 delivery.

Ordered my cupcakes online. They arrived not looking the best however I pride myself on being a CAKE CONNOISSEUR so I assumed these cupcakes would be magnificent….CHILEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE only thing that has flavor was the damn icing! These cupcakes tasted extremely GMO’ish meaning BOXED cake mix. The flavor evaporated as quick as I tasted it! Very dissatisfied. Expected to taste real ingredients

Yes I have a bit complaint I live in West Covina I drive all the way to Los Angeles for for a jump a German chocolate cake 2weekends in a row I call the lady said she was going to save me a piece on 8/27 I come all the way there and just to be told that they so loud so yes I Mad because I live in West Covina and Im truly wanted that cake just to be told your Sold Out not good at all then I talk to a worker just to be told that the Owner only allows them to Only make 2cake so yes you will Sell Out with only 2 cake so Mad yes only 2 cakes Wow so yes Mad I was. I dont know who owns this place but they really need to invest in some customer service training for their employees. I checked the hours to see if this place was open. Google showed them as open so I called. The first two times I called, the phone rang and rang then went to voicemail. Then I called a third time, a woman answered, told me to hold on. I was on hold for five minutes. While on hold I could clearly hear two female employees having a conversation. Mind you, I was still just sitting on the phone waiting for her to come back just so that I could ask a question about pricing for a catered event that I was having. I guess business and making money is not a priority smh. Your employees can make or break your business and that should be a concern for a business owner. Do better folks. I will never patronize this place.

This place was delicious! So good. We went to the mall traveling and heard this palace was great. We bought the red velvet cupcake and sweet potato cup cake. Took home Apple pie cupcake and banana cupcake everyone loved their cupcake. The sweet potato cupcake was exceptionally good. The cupcakes were also decorated pretty. Good packaging to as this was important because we were on the road. Highly recommend. Staff was nice place was clean.

I ordered the sweet potato pound cake. Let me tell you that this was one of the BEST cakes that I have ever tasted in my life. It arrived perfectly wrapped and it was very moist. Two months ago, I would have been glad to recommend this bakery to family and friends. However, the quality of their cookies have been disappointing the last few times I have ordered. At one point, the chocolate chip cookies had too much flour and tasted stale. Tonight, the cookies had way too much chocolate and was overly sweet. I could not finish the cookies and my teeth hurt. I dont know whats been going on in the kitchen, but this bakery has been an extreme let down. Im never ordering again.

Red Velvet cake was good! It does have a thick layer of frosting and can get sweet after a while so if you like frosting you will love this. Def wish it was more butter creme tasting but to each their own and did not ruin the day :)

Worth the wait! I have wanted to try Southern Girl cupcakes for months now, and finally made a special trip across town. Location was surprisingly easy to find. It’s in the mall, but with an entrance facing the parking garage so there’s no need to enter the mall itself.Due to Covid, there isn’t much of a counter display, but I asked an employee for recommendations and she was enthusiastic about the lemon poundcake. So I left with 8 cupcakes (tried every flavor) and a slice of poundcake for under $30!Highly recommend the Red Velvet and Double Chocolate cupcakes. Everything I got was moist, buttery, and pure heaven. I especially like that the cupcakes aren’t too sweet, so the frosting is well balanced. Can’t wait to come back here again next time my sweet tooth wants to party :-)

Stars are for cheery service and freshly prepared food. I read that they had good vegan cobbler so I ordered a whole one for my B-day. Bad choice. What I got couldn’t pass for cobbler at all. A gooey, flavorless biscuit-like topping was substituted for crust and when I asked why, they said “Cuz it’s vegan”??? Like quality and flavor can’t be vegan.Don’t buy vegan from this place. Their hearts ain’t in it.

Ive been looking forward to coming here. Bought 2 red velvet cupcakes, they were not the best as I thought it would of been tasted artificial. Maybe it was a bad day? The lady at the register her pants were falling, she was glued to her phone the whole time, didnt even bother to wash her hands. Customers notice everything! Even if the employee is inexperienced, still theres no excuse.

BIRTHDAY RUINED!!! My sweet sweet boyfriend took me here for my birthday to get some cupcakes. Because Im a Southern girl I so was looking forward to tasting them and they had interesting flavors like sweet potato with cream cheese frosting. We bought a few and took them home to celebrate later. Unfortunately, the smell and look of these cupcakes did not foretell the awful awful awful taste of the cake which was severely dry and hard (ie stale) and the frosting which was too loose and not very sweet. We were told these were cream cheese frosting and I dont know where they get their cream cheese but it was more of a whipped cream which I do not like. Did their sign say they won a cupcake competition on television? Overall a very disappointing experience given that it was my birthday and I felt really terrible because my boyfriend could tell I didnt like them and I wanted to so bad because of all of the effort. How annoying. Im wondering are these really from the south and how do they stay in business? Um, not the southern US and thats for sure ... unfortunately I was so angry I neglected to even take any pictures (the decorations were actually pretty) I will definitely NOT be going back to capture photos. The shop actually smells really good and the prices are a bit steep but would be worth it if the cake were good. In the future I will just stick to my known cake shops where the cake is actually tasty and worth the money and drive.

They have a little parking 20 min on the side (2 spots) instead of looking for parking you can park there if its open; i LOVE they key lime pie. Sometimes its sold out because its so popular; I also enjoy the banana pudding.The staff here is always super nice, I enjoy them.

First time going here today 12/5/19 I ordered a red velvet cupcake hands down thee best Ive ever had!!! I ordered the ice box pie O think it was but it was absolutely delicious the crust melts in your mouth!! Customer service was excellent the two girls were very friendly will go back soon!!!

This place is located on the third floor of the Korean shopping market. It has a cute and clean ambiance. Staff is friendly and helpful when I asked her what they are known for. She said everything purple. I ordered the sweet potato tiramisu and sweet potato soft serve. They both were yummy and we enjoyed it. Not a sweet flavor but perfect for a dessert craving.

Had to update my review for this bakery. The food is always great! But today I placed my usual order through postmates and I recieved 2 wrong items. I contacted the bakery to tell them what happened and they admitted to putting the wrong items in. They offered to deliver the correct items later in the evening. I agreed to wait until they did since I was already home. 2 hours later I recieved a call that the items they were supposed to be delivering to me were not available anymore and they couldnt do anything for me so they hung up. They arent open tomorrow and I usually order so I can keep something in my house for their off day. So instead Im attempting to get a credit from postmates since they dont just refund the card and the discount I used to get free delivery is not going to be valid anymore. Hoping this doesnt happen again and my experience gets better from here on.Another update : I have stopped coming to Southern girl. I have continuously gotten the wrong order or my bakery items are stale. Not sure whats been going on recently but Im sad to see their bakery items get worse with every visit. The staff are nice but seem to lack any type of professionalism. I would have put up with all of this if the food was still up to par

I come from a family of some country, thick neck, thick waste, thick armed ole southern women that were bakers. I must say this made my Cali trip. That sweet potato cupcake was everything. It was so good that I ate the wrapper. (Ask my wife) I am a very judgmental person when it comes to food and my judgements is for sure own point. Must have don’t take my word for it. JUST TRY IT!!!!!!

Stood and waited to buy some items and was completely ignored while the employees stood and talked dint even notice i left sad. I have been back several times and must admit the service was great seemed like the staff wanted to be there and the sweet potato cupcakes are moist and delicious changed my rating to 5 stars

I came here to buy Cupcakes with my little sister. But they took forever. We waited 15 minutes for 2 cupcakes, because the cashier couldnt get a simple cookie order right. We got a red velvet and Chocolate one. The red velvet one frosting was terrible. And the chocolate one made me sick the dough was still raw. We will most likely not be coming back here. The cupcakes tasted terrible and overpriced.

I visited first time 6/9/18 and from observing employees interaction with patrons,I give a 10. Took a chance on slice of red velvet cake even though I thought it would have tasted just like all the other velvet cakes I tasted elsewhere. It was so good, I can honestly say its the best Ive ever had. Ill be ordering my birthday cake from them.

I’ve been here several times only beca I saw them on cupcake wars. The first time cupcakes were very dry. The second and third time they were ok. Their peach tea or was it each lemonade can’t remember is off the chain. Their customer service is great as well. I only gave them a 3 star because my cupcakes all three times has been dry.

Finally got to try the purple dessert place! It was okay. Not too sweet which was pleasant. I can see why Koreans like it. I tried the purple sweet potato tiramisu and the sweet potato soft serve. The tiramisu was good. Moist and had a pretty good sweet potato flavor. The soft serve was tasty too. Its too expensive, in my opinion. Theres so many unique cute dessert places in CA. It can be hard to keep up. This place is definitely cute and unique (their desserts are purple, for Petes sake!) Taste-wise, its not bad either. Worth trying at least once.

I cant say enough about this place, Ive been going to Southern Girl for years. All the cupcakes are great, and the cake slices are insanely good. The frosting is a bit heavy with the cake slices, but easy enough to scope off. Their lemon pound cake and sweet potato cupcakes aredivine, and the Hennessy & Coke special order mini cupcakes are incredible. If you like cake, you have to visit.

I love the caramel cake, its the only thing I like here.On this one particular day the caramel cake was covered with icing. I didnt recognize it. I brought it anyway because its my favorite cake. The caramel was runny and not like usually. The cashier assured me that it tasted the same. I purchased it and got home and it didnt taste the same.I called and let them know that I wasnt pleased with the cake. The person told me to bring back and they would exchange it for another item. I only like the caramel cake and they only make it on Tuesdays.I returned the uneaten portion. The cashier who sold it to me told me no refund, just exchange. I told her I only like the caramel cake and its only made on Tuesday. Im not waiting a week to get my cake or my refund. After going back in forth with her, she finally returned my money.I WONT BE RETURNING HERE ANYMORE. I THOUGHT SHE WAS VERY RUDE TO ME. I BUY THE CAKE ALMOST EVERY TUESDAY SO I KNOW THE TASTE. SHE KNEW THAT THE CAKE WAS NOT THE USUAL CAKE, SHE COULDVE TOLD ME AND I WOULD NOT HAVE BROUGHT IT. I Feel if I return something with one bite missing, it wasnt to me liking. She felt that if you dont like it, thats no a reason for a refund.
