If you’re interested in one of these flavors (mango, matcha, strawberry, or ingeolmi), just get the single serving size instead of full size and add the toppings you want on the side. It’s cheaper and the difference between single serving and full size is negligible since you’ll probably end up spilling a lot of the bingsoo as you eat.I wish the black sesame had the same flavored ice instead of milk flavored. Matcha ended up being my favorite because of the surprisingly strong matcha flavor. Definitely recommend adding injeolmi (toasted rice) powder on top!All flavors were sweet enough that I didn’t think condensed milk was needed.
What a better & refreshing treat after a nice late afternoon walk from the Griffith Observatory than a delicious Korean style shave ice dessert at 1 of the top place in LA, Oakobing! We immediately went for the Matcha Bingsu & Red Beans, add on a side of shaved coconuts, and 2 mochis to share perfectly between the three of us. The green tea ice was nice & light, and not heavy sweetened. Plus, the order came with a side of condensed milk & Matcha powder to enhanced the icing even more! The prices might seem a bit steep for 1st timers, however, the portion is HUGE (See pictures), and well justified for the $$$ spent. Plus, the scenery of the place and their desserts are very Instagram friendly!! And all the workers & 99% of the customers are masked up, so, the ambiance is Covid compliant.Coming from our previous experience, we chose to parks our car couple of blocks away, then walked to Oakobing, rather than driving around the blocks hoping for a parking spot available up front.1st timers: The process here is to load up their online menu in your phones, decide your orders while waiting in line (Busy times), then walk up to one of the two Self-service computer screen to the right side, once you past the entrance to place your order. Use the touch screens to process your orders, pay, then look around for an empty table to sit, or wait for one to come available, then onto a brief waiting game for your name to get called out. Once your name is called, then proceed to the counter top to pick up your TREATS, and enjoy to your delights!!!And, btw, TAKE your pictures!!! 😉😊
This was a lovely little hole in the wall for some shaved ice in K-Town. They have a variety of flavors with some excellent seating choices . Beware-however, it gets packed quick. Please be sure to wear youre mask inside if your unvaccinated. Service was friendly and the ice was flakey. Ive never had anything quite like it and it was far from too sweet. Perfect 🥰 I cant wait to be back.
This place is located pretty much in the heart of Korea Town. Facing 6th St, it isn’t too hard to find. Main thing will be parking. There is a parking structure, which I believe is valet or you can find street parking. Around there, it’ll be limited to 1hr parking for $1.Walking in, you’ll get a pretty charming little store with the counter right there. They seem to follow covid rule somewhat decently. People had masks including the workers. They are pretty much known for their shaved ice so we went for it. They have a counter where you can order your food and also a tablet as well. That day, there was no one ordering at the counter but we still were directed to the tablet. Little strange but ok… we went for the coconut bingso. Their shaved ices will range between $11-$14.Once your done paying, go take a seat. They’ll call your name on the speakers. So for the food, taste wise, gotta say, it’s pretty good. The coconut flavor was definitely there and filled with flakes. The condensed milk is on the side and actually made runny. It was different but still pretty good. Everything is served on a plate so be ready to make a little mess but they provide a tray.Overall, I’d give this place a solid 4/5 stars. Everything good wise was good. Parking is always a drag being in LA. The cashier could be a little bit more useful but it’s definitely one of those places to try!
I can only recommend this place if you go with a group of friends. The individual sizes are tasty but not as good or as presentable as the regular sizes, which serve 2 or more. They seemed way too busy for just the two employees working. Would recommend but with the caviat that you go with a few people.
I just loved the shaved ice. Its so flakey and the toppings are yummy! We also added the waffle to our order and it does no disappoint. The strawberries and cream is amazing especially with the strawberry cream you pour on top.
I came here 2 years ago and back then it was the best bingsoo Ive ever had. I visited again over labor day weekend 2021 and ordered the mango bingsoo & matcha bingsoo. The matcha was good, but the texture of the mango was chunky and not very bingsoo-like (as can be seen in the photo). Mochi topping was good tho!
Oakobing is know for their loaded shaved ice with classic asian flavors. We got the Black Sesame Bingsu which included a shot of condensed milk, sweet red beans and mochi. This was one of their newer flavors, and although it was less Instagramable than the others, it was still really good. This bingsu was mild and not overly sweet due to the sesame powder, which was right up my alley.
When youre in Ktown and you want shaved ice, you go to Oakobing. They have so many different flavors and all of them are very Instagram-able. My go to shaved ice is the mango melon shaved ice or the Oreo tiramisu shaved ice.The mango melon is so light and refreshing especially when its melon season. It comes out in an actual melon bowl and once youve eating all the shaved ice, you can scrape at the insides of the melon. The Oreo tiramisu is much more decadent, similar to an American style dessert. This shaved ice is very sweet and much heavier since it comes out with a slice of cheese cake and a shot of espresso, but equally enjoyable for me.The portions are also very large so you could probably split one shaved ice between 3-4 people. They used to have free parking during the pandemic, but now theyre back to $3 valet so I would try to look for street parking first.
Delicious! Gotta try them all! The normal sizes are great for sharing and the smalls are almost perfect for an individual. Can be busy, but always worth the wait.
We came by to have some dessert to share before dinner, because.. why not? 😛 we got the Injeolmi Bingsu and it was delicious and perfectly enough for three people to share. No lines and quick to get our order on a Tuesday afternoon. The mochi and milk flavor really did it for me, but definitely want to return for other flavors. The place has indoor and outdoor seating with cute decor. I recommend to try if you’re in the area :)
I love the shaved ice here and Im generally not a fan of it. takeout was packaged very well. cant wait to go back
Got the Oreo Tiramisu. Perfect serving size for sharing. Surprisingly spacy, particularly the back area that connects to the garage.
It was my first time but definitely not my last. Some of the things I wanted to try were unfortunately not in season but still worth the trip. We got the black sesame shaved ice and I couldnt stop eating even though I was full. The milky flavored shaved ice is similar to vanilla and the red bean/ mochi sides were solid additions. We also got the injeolmi croissant and I didnt know what it was but this pastry is insane and would definitely recommend. The Wait wasnt bad but I went on Tuesday evening so I dont imagine its always like that. Also there is a good amount of outdoor seating.
Super tasty. The portions are huge though, even a single serving is enough to share between 2
I’m just happy this places opens as late as it does! Nice place to grab a late post dinner dessert. They do a killer job on their shaved ice, but I’d say you could prob do without ordering the extra cheese cake. It’s too dense and rich. During the summer, def take advantage of the sweeter summer fruits like mangoes and strawberries.
Went today. Young female cashier had a very serious demeanor towards myself and other non Asian patron. When she rang up two other separate patrons who happened to be Asian, all of a sudden she smiles through her eyes and her voice goes up and suddenly sounds super friendly. This was my observation today as I was eating my bingsoo in the shop. I felt very unwelcome.. What do I make of this? I will not be returning after this. Patrons should receive equal treatment
It was good and refreshing. It’s soooo much though so make sure it’s like 3 of you guys sharing one 🤣
The best shaved ice flakes I have ever eaten! Both the strawberry and the Oreo tiramisu was delicious. The Oreo came with a slice of cheesecake. And it was excellent, thick, dense cake, the kind I love. They have overflow seating out a hallway and I can see why. This place must be so popular at night! Don’t miss the chance to try this place it was yummy.
Hands down top or top two bingsoo places in ktown. I highly recommend either their melon or pineapple, they’re my go-tos. The texture of the bingsoo is what sells this place for me, it’s the fluffiest I’ve had so far!
Delicious Korean style shave ice (bingsoo). Tried the green tea and the Injeolmi (roasted bean powder) versions. They were both creamy and delicious with a good amount of red bean, extra condensed milk to pour on top, but it was a little stingy on the mochi. Had outside seating and hand sanitizer readily available. Only complaint is that it seemed a tad expensive ($24+ for 2 orders).
One of my favorite places for bingsu. Great flavors, perfectly silky smooth ice, and just enough sweetness to hit that spot. Only downside is the last few times Ive been they were out of the flavors that I wanted to enjoy.
Im not a big dessert and less so when it comes to dairy based desserts, but I will say this was pretty good. Now, this is especially good if you have company otherwise youll have this huge bowl of ice cream shaving like treat to finish off by yourself. Less appealing in the cooler months, but still delicious nonetheless.
One of the best Korean shaved ice joints in the world. Better than the Pinkberry shop that used to be next door. Quality of the ingredients really stand out. Parking in the back costs $2 (not sure whats the purpose of the valet guy if you are self parking). The combo set seems like a good deal since you get the rice cake croissant filled with fresh cream.
WOW Big portions, appealing and tastes really (not too sweet) the place has limited seats and can get really crowded. Nice ambience. Later found out that there are more seating when you exit into the center however since they had no AC there it was unbearable to sit down. It is a bit pricey, but hey LA is not cheap
I liked the mango bingsoo with melons. Very good combination. I wish I could add pineapples too!
Pricey shaved ice, but it was delicious.
Most of the bingsoo places ive been too are quite icy and dont have much flavor but oakobing is different! their bingsoo is much creamier and their proportions are worth the price. came here with my family and we ordered a Green Tea and Mango Melon. everything complimented well with each other and tasted very good :)
Love this place - cross the street after a hearty meal at Seong Buk Dong to round off your gluttonous night.Their shaved ice flavors are on point, but I love getting multiple flavors of their single serving shaved ices. I’m old school and always ask for the original ice with red bean and mochi on the side. It is not on their single serving menu, but you can ask them to customize.Fun place for dessert, lots of seating, prompt service. Can get busy.
Wow big surprise, Best shaved Ice ever! So yummy, How come I didnt know about this placeWhat a shame of me... Glad I know this place now
This place is famous for its varied and sweet menu. But not good for people who dont want to wait because there are too many people
Korean shaved ice is a really refreshing snack to have on a hot summer day. But Oakobings shaved ice doesnt have the soft feathery texture I have come to expect from Korean shaved ice spots. I think its because the machines they have for producing the ice is a bit outdated and different from modern ice shaving machines. Overall not bad but not great either. The bathroom was quite dirty.
Delicious ice cream. Didnt even have a proper bingsu. Parking is limited. Lots of seating in and outside
One of the best dessert places in K-town to beat the summertime heat. They have ice flake dessert which is like ice cream if it were shaved ice. Imagine light and airy ice towering on top of each other, but shaved from actual frozen ice cream. So that when you put the ice in your mouth, it melts into a cool, creamy, delicious burst of flavor. They a have about 8-10 flavors that range from yogurt to green tea. I like the presentation as well. For instance, the pineapple ice flakes uses the actual fruit as the bowl. They also have dessert bread and what seems new is the smaller portion ice flake for people who dont like to share.Parking is in the rear for $2. There is plenty of seating in the front, inside, the rear and a small patio behind. It does get packed, especially on the weekends so prepare to wait.
Grear dessert place, order comes out pretty fast. Fruits are fresh too, just one thing I wish they keep tables and the floor clean.
My friend and I ordered the mini versions and they were perfect for 1 person. They were $4.50 each, which isn’t too bad. I ordered the melon and mango and she ordered the chocolate and they were both delicious! It was a clean place, plenty of seating, water and water cups available. They do have a parking garage you can park by but I don’t think there’s any validation if you’re a customer. It’s $2 an hour so not bad.. but not ideal if you just want to go get shaved ice. I would come back to this place if I was in the area!
✨Pictured: (1) Green Tea Shaved Ice with Red Bean and Mochi(2) Mango Melon Shaved Ice❤️ Although its literally ice, its sooo soft and fluffy and just melts in your mouth, and yet the flavor is tastefully potent. If you prefer milk tea, the green tea tastes EXACTLY like a green tea drink, its not too heavy, but the flower is definitely maximized by the red bean and although its a little bit in the strong side, its not too sweet. Its basically perfect. Now, the mango melon one is served to out out of the melon they used to make it. GENIUSES. Its tastefully sweet and comes with condensed milk on the side GIRL SLATHER THAT THING ITS SO COMPLIMENTING. Its juicy and it perfectly encaptures its name. And they are HUGE, so basically one can serve 2-4 people. And the shops is one the smaller side (its LA duh) but theres a comfortable amount of space. 100/10 high-key recommend! @bobaforboba on Instagram
Delicious snow ice deserts, fast service, and cheap parking.
My family and I really liked the combination of fruits and shaved ice cream, and the insulated carry bag was the right touch for take home! I would recommend this place to anyone!
The bingsu was delicious, but was much more like a fancy Hawaiian shaved ice than the bingsu Ive enjoyed in Korea that are packed with many different ingredients. It would be nice to have a real Korean-style bingsu option on the menu here.
Great place for Bingsu, love the texture of the shaved ice. A great place for dessert with good company.
A new go to place for deserts. They serve shaved ice in many flavors. The fruit flavors are delicious, strawberry tastes like the ice cream, mango melon has an awesome deco, where the bowl served is the emptied shell of a melon. Tiramisu is served with a slice of cheese cake. My favorite is the injeulme (bean powdered sweet rice cake) shaved ice. I dont recommend the beverages though... Try it out if you enjoy shaved ice or just wanna try something new.
The most delicious shaved ice i have ever eaten. i am a shaved ice fanatic, it’s my preferred frozen delicacy and I’ve visited many shaved ice places before and this location has the best shaved ice!!
Love this place!Visited around 3pm and almost no customers, pretty good place to chill and rest. It has pretty good seating for groups, as we had 6 people. It was nice as it was quiet, we were able to have our conversations comfortably. The guy that took our order at the cashier was nice too.We ordered a Injeolmi Ice Flake and a Strawberry Brick Toast. The pricing is reasonable compared to the portions, we were able to feel satisfied after a late lunch. Both desserts werent too sweet, so personally we loved them both. However, I did prefer the ice flakes to the toast. Also really like how they have single servings of ice flakes.Overall, probably will be back sometime when we have another big group.
I love dessert, especially Korean desserts!! Located inside the heart of K-town, the store is so nice and the menu has lots of dessert choices (which make me want too order all of them haha). I order the Tiramisu bingsu - taste so good and refreshing. Fav spot during summer time, where you can enjoy yummy dessert and hide from the crazy LA heat outside.
A bit pricey but quality coffee and delicious bingsoo (shaved ice)! Coffee, green tea, and mango are fantastic, esp when ordered with mochi (rice cake). They also have a great tea selection. They have a valet parking garage (~$1-2 w/ validation) behind the row of stores visible from 6th street. Its kind of hard to see, but its in the same physical building as Oakobing, not the adjacent parking lot. Enter on the south side of 6th going eastbound just before you hit Berendo - turn right into a narrow alleyway.
So fresh and cold the perfect treat for a hot day! Dont be discouraged by COVID-19 its okay to indulge yourself with this light and tasty dessert. If I lived close by I would definitely be a regular. Id say if you are on a diet or not keen on eating heavy desserts its great. What makes it so weight friendly to me that it is a water based dessert instead of a cream like normal ice cream. Ive typed enough but please do stop by and try a yummy icy dessert also for the time being dont forget to wear your mask 😷
I never got to actually try the food because there is no parking and no one answers the phone. I had a meet up here and eventually canceled it because the parking situation was too stressful.
The mango melon bingsoo is great 👍 😋
Shaved ice and brick toast dessert spot in Koreatown. This was a quick walk after dinner. Came here around 7 on a Saturday evening and there wasn’t a line but most of the tables were occupied. There is additional seating in the back and for the most part, those were empty. There is free WiFi available and they do take credit card. You order at the counter and pay before receiving a buzzer. We got the injeolmi ice flakes for ~$10 to split between the two of us but there’s also single servings for ~$5. They have a combination where you can get a shaved ice and brick toast or pastry that’s within the same flavor profile. A lot of people got the melon ball ice flake which was served in a cut melon and looked really cute. The injeolmi was a solid choice and came with mochi and red bean plus condensed milk on the side for you to pour. The mochis got stuck together towards the end and got a bit hard so try to mix it up or eat them earlier. There’s a bathroom in the back but you need to ask for the key. Overall a cute spot to share some dessert.
Good shaved Ice. Pricy!
