Mid sized shop with a great selection of new comics and classics. The staff was quite friendly and had nothing but positive vibes. My girlfriend found a witty comic called “I Moved to Los Angeles to Work in Animation”, which looked to be an animators illustrated journey from her hometown of Portland to LA to make it in the animation industry. I scooped that and the latest volume of Paper Girls. When I went to make my purchase the girl at the register offered a bag which I almost passed on. She tempted me with the promise of it being a pretty cool one so I said “okay I will take the bag please!” She even threw in some custom SHQ coasters and the bag did indeed have a cool cartoon graphic on the front. Overall I was happy with my experience and purchases. 4 days later I’m home putting my recently purchased comics away and I just realized that the printed graphic has caricatures of the shop owners printed on the bag! How cool is that!

Low key comic book store, I went in to buy bags and boards for my comics. I couldnt help myself to buy current, morden and back issues. Store has old book store vibe. Besides that they carry lot of graphic novels and paper backs. Any ways, I ended up spending more than $350. I asked for a discount. David, who works there agree to gave me a deal. So total came out to $299.I was very thankful and happy that he gave me a deal.

In Los Angeles at least, this is surely the best comic shop for 1) artistic zines/comic zines (if you dont know what a zine is look it up; they are smaller than a comic book/comic magazine, thats the fastest way to describe them) 2) zine-type home-pressed artistic pamphlets 3) Probably also best for books that collect underground and small press comics, especially now that Meltdown Comics is gone 4) and probably now best also for books that collect material similar to that found in underground comics and zines, for books that are zine-like. Some nice stuff. Not all the zines are comic zines, they have other kinds of zines too, but mostly comic zines. Mega City One comics probably has a better selection of actual Indie comic books, as opposed to little zines. I havent seen little zines at Mega City One before. For Secret Headquarters, my big complaints are two: 1) that they dont carry Regular Sized Mylar Bags and Boards, and when I told them this two different times, both times they thought I was referring to Current Size bags and boards. No, Current Size is Current Size, while Regular Size bags and boards are larger and much better for 80s and 90s comics. Hopefully they will carry Regular Size bags and boards, because those are actually the Go-to sizes at most comic stores, not the Current Size ones. I know that because Ive been to a number of comic stores. 2) They dont have parking, and as they know, its usually difficult to find parking. A fun comic shop to browse and shop, most definitely, but they should move to a place with parking available and while theyre at it how about moving to nearby East Hollywood! East Hollywood is cooler than Silverlake and more people pass through there as well. 😼

This is a super cute comic book store on sunset that one should definitely check out. They have a nice small collection from various publishers. The store has a vintage feel but is super clean inside. They participate in free comic day too. Its a nice intimate setting with a darker ambiance making this hidden gem a diamond in the rough.

In a bohemian (North Silver lake) neighborhood. Wish they had a nicer place to sit and read. Decent collection of books but lacks the ambiance inside. Wish they also had some other genres in addition to comic books. Also, to add a personal touch, its helpful to have an owner who comes interacts with clients. Can do better but always love seeing some kind of a brick-and-mortar bookstore. Another plus is that there are a bunch of awesome bohemian food places and smoothie/juice places right around there.

The place is great and is the closest comic book store in my neighborhood. They have self-published books and comics which is always worth buying. They have a great selection of comics of different genres and the weekly issues too. I highly recommend this place if you come across the Hollywood/Silverlake area.

I loved the trendy boutique look of this small comic book store but the two ladies who work here were not friendly at all.Being Silver Lake, it had a cool vibe to it and the best looking comic book store space Ive seen. I loved the indie music they were playing at the time of visit which made for a pleasurable comic book browsing experience. There was a section of indie comics and graphic novels which was interesting. Its a trendy small comic book store that is neat and well organized. I didnt like the lousy hipsters who work here who need to lose the Im cooler than you attitude.Minus one star for the people who work here. Five stars for the shop and selection itself.

The comic book selection is great here. Lots of indie comics and graphic novels alongside the ones from big publishers. The whole place feels like classy like nice upscale book store. The staff there is happy to help you if you walk up to the counter and ask, but be specific and dont expect them to walk up to you and give you the overbearing can I help you with something? bit.

A small comic store in Silverlake, they’ve got a good selection of current issues. While the volume of graphic novels may seem small, the actual content is good, with a large range of not just the standard Marvel and DC, but also independent prints and lesser known publishers such as Avatar and Image. The staff were friendly enough and I was able to find what I needed (which while not obscure, was something that I didn’t have high hopes of finding). Service with a smile and I was on my way.

I have an issue with this place. A big issue. About a year ago, the writer I was working with and I came into the store to try to get out comic book on the shelves. Seeing as we were independent comic book creators, we thought this store could be a great match. Meltdown Comics and Golden Apple Comics ended up selling our comics, but this store did not. Now, I dont have an issue with them rejecting the comic, I really dont. I have an issue with the way in which it was done. Whoever the man is who was working there that day probably thought I was just a chubby nobody chick looking through the comics while he discussed the comic with the writer he didnt know I was working with. He probably thought that the artist of the comic, me, would never hear what he had to say. But I did.He had the audacity to say, as he roughly flipped through the 24 page comic book, that I clearly have no natural talent. I find what he said to be not only rude, but completely inappropriate. He is not the sole dictator on what passes as art. He needs to learn how to interact with artists and writers who come to him. Like I said, I dont really care that he didnt accept my comic, but I care that he had so little decorum that he would carelessly throw out one of the most offensive phrases one could ever say about a creative person. Its sad that such a beautiful and well-stocked store is run by such a discourteous and condescending man.I havent made a single comic book since he said that and after 6 years of working together my creative partnership is over, leaving us with thousands of dollars worth of useless printed comic books. I still make art but his destructive words have never left my mind and still affect me to this day.

It can be a little snooty and geared towards Chris Ware-like indie publishers, but its a comics shop filled with great comics, picked by discriminating owners. Completely lacking all of the nasty things many comics shops have in spades (large lifesize cutouts of impossibly anatomically strange big breasted superhero women, etc), this is a place for comics readers to feel elevated and for comics newbies to feel comfortable.
