Really wanted to support this place since I live super close. but dropped off a film camera here to have the back door latch fixed and it just sat for two and a half weeks even after I called for an update and they said theyd give me a call later that day. heard nothing back, when I called a couple days later to check in again they said they could fix it that day but I decided to just pick it up since Id rather not give them my money. so make sure you get some kind of timeline if you bring anything here or constantly call to check in.
Super kind and helpful. I dont know what all these negative reviews are about. Staff was super kind on both the phone and in person. Listened to me talk through the issue I was having with my Pentax 67, and even made some thoughtful suggestions about how to care for the camera in general. Old school place, and it seems like they really care. Will update when I pick up my camera in a couple weeks.Update:Fixed the issue with a new part in just 2 days! Was ready to pick up. They did a test roll to make sure everything was working. Camera is working great now. So thrilled with my experience.
They didnt fix my camera, leaving it in worse condition than when I dropped it off, and are now ignoring their 3 month warranty. I paid for nothing and wasted my time. They also force you to pay cash, so you cant dispute the charge. Im not even sure they were capable of fixing it in the first place, might be a scam. They also told me fake operating hours when I wanted to bring the camera in to show them that their repair didnt work. Hmm...
Im not super pleased with anything about this place. Took them 2 months to figure out they couldnt fix my A7II, which had a broken LCD screen and body damage. Had to call back every couple weeks just to get an update. On my final call back, the guy who answered the phone (never even got his name) said yeah we cant fix it. We looked at it two days ago. After days of trying to coordinate via e-mail and phone calls to arrange shipment of my camera (was only in the area briefly) I had to have someone I knew pick it up and ship it to me.Bad communication, slow service.
I called ahead to see if they could fix my camera, they said come on by. When I got to the shop the guy wasn’t wearing a mask, I told him I have an auto immune disorder asked him to put one on and he just left and wouldn’t come back to the front. After waiting several minutes I rang the bell again the same man came out from the back, I told him I’d called and needed my camera replaced he said he didn’t have a mask and they didn’t need my business. I asked what was wrong cause I was very confused why this person was being so hostile to me and he just waved me off and said “we don’t need it” so I left. Really weird. Really hostile. Guess I’m going elsewhere
Took my lens to get repaired 2 months ago. Really thought it was well repaired. Until the lens started to come apart at the place he repaired it. Lost the paper receipt and just asked to speak with the owner he wouldn’t come out and said that it came apart on its own. Very rude. I thought he did great work but I guess not. Honor your work please and when a customer comes in please just show a little respect.
They fixed my contax t3 in two days! Amazing people and service. Thank you Walters!!!!
Turnaround for film developing is fast and good quality, gonna be honest they have this employee that nvr wears a mask and I’m too scared to say anything but
I dont usually write reviews, but I had to write one for this shop. I brought in my Mamiya RZ67 for repair and my Sony a7s2 for cleaning. Rudolfo is incredible, professional and very easy to talk with. If you dont try this shop you’ll be missing out. Fair price and quick turn around.just go to the shop, you dont have to commit to anything. You’ll be really happy you did!
My son dug up his great grandpa’s Yashica 35 electra and found out the film advance mechanism wasn’t working. We took it to Walter’s Camera in downtown LA. We were immediately greeted and taken care of. We literally and obviously know nothing about this camera, but the staff immediately found the issue-that being the battery, and was fixed right away. The cost? just that the battery. Awesome service. We ended up chatting about solar panels and such. Great experience.
I had to call multiple times to check on my camera repair. They did a good job replacing the lcd screen. BUT- When I received it back the buttons were not functioning, as they were before. I tried to call and leave a message for them, but their phone line just beeps. I’m pretty upset as I used it to dive and it wasn’t functioning for video among other things. :-(
The shop is small and in a old part of town. The owner/worker was very helpful and seemed extreme knowledgeable. Went there to fix my Nikon 24 f/1/4, which stopped focusing and communicating with the body (4 years old). The owner very quickly stated that he could not work on the lens because he can no longer purchase Nikon spare parts. I then asked him about cleaning the sensor on my well worn D800E. He checked it, said it was pretty clean and blew the dust and lint off where he could for no charge. I offered him money and he declined. We then had a long discussion about the merits of increasing pixel sized sensors and for shooting film again. Walters is no frills. Although I had no service done at Walters, I had a nice discussion about photography and gained some knowledge about the camera industry.
This guy is simply the best. Can fix most problems and fixed mine in only 10 minutes. Super nice and helpful. Go to store!
Never been here
The best prices in Los Angeles and always incredibly good work. The owner is very friendly and knowledgeable and has very quick turnaround. Cant recommend this place enough!
The best! I dropped my Canon camera, bent the filter housing and scraped the lens barrel. He fixed it in one day and it looks like new. Also he cleaned the camera and charged only $80 total! He is the last of the old-time camera repair shops - a real asset. I highly recommend going to Walters for your repair needs. He is a very interesting person and has lots of good advice, too.
First time I’ve ever felt compelled to write a review for someone. Working with Walter’s Camera has possibly been the best customer service I’ve ever experienced. Honest, reliable, trustworthy and friendly. I will never take my cameras elsewhere! Thank you for repairing my Mamiya RZ67 - thrilled to have it working again.
I bought a Olympus XA2 here at a very reasonable price. The film release button got stuck a few weeks later and they fixed it for me no charge. Great guys to talk to. Very knowledgeable and friendly.
Was traveling for a month with my Canon AE-1 in LA when I had a problem with it, took to Walters and was well attended. Totally recommend it!
I went in with my Canon 3ti that went on the fritz and the gentlemen was forthcoming in that there was two possible faults (the sensor or its circuitry) but that it would be more cost-efficient to send it to Canon then for him to fix it. Im impressed. Thats the sign of an honest man who wants whats the best for his customers.
Fair price for excellent work done pretty quickly. In my case it was cleaning of a sticky shutter from an old Graflex Crown Graphic camera. The proprietor has a wry sense of humor that you dont expect and which may rub some people the wrong way (based on my interpretation of certain Yelp reviews) but he is truly a charming gentleman.
This guy with the foreign accent is very non customer service oriented to put it nicely. Im trying to get a simple part (audio input/headphone jack) replaced on an older model canon vixia and he says too old (5 years). Im like Im sure they are compatible with the newer models as those simple parts dont change that much..he says dont give me a lecture. I immediately knew I didnt want this guy touching my camera or to buy new gear from him at all (Im about to spend a grand on upgrades which he will now miss out on consulting me on. Get a clue dude
Walters Camera has helped me out so much over the last 5 years Ive been taking photography. Quality repairs at very reasonable prices. They brought my grandpas old Nikon FM back to its glory and repaired my Canon G9. I dont know how hard it is to find a place that can do both so well. These guys know what they are talking about.
Wonderful experience! friendly staff, great job and low prices.
I found a camera on OfferUp from these guys- I had a meet up set up, literally drove an hour and a half for me to get there and they sold it before I’d gotten there- absolutely horrible customer service
BRING CASH - they dont take credit cards or personal checks. Beyond that, the shop is fantastic. The owner is personable and knowledgable. Hes offers up good advice just to be friendly, and hed tell you about a money-saving work-around before hed try to sell you something you dont need.
Two words: Water damage. Most places just give you a grim nod at the slightest hint of water damage -- even Canon generally wont touch it -- but Walter took my wet 5D in with open arms. 50/50 chance, he told me. And that same afternoon he called to tell me that hed be able to repair it... for UNDER $300! A fraction of the price quoted anywhere else. But I dont take food stamps, he reminded. Amaaaazing. I live between New York and LA, this is definitely the best camera repair shop out there.
Excellent repair service. Have been using them for 30 years. Honest and reliable, I hope they are around for another generation.
Sayeed was very helpful, honest, and had a great sense of humor. I called Canon about my camera lens, they said it would be 99 bucks to look at it and more to fix it, or they have a rep on the phone ready to see about upgrading my current camera. What a racket, they dont even want to fix it, just sell you another camera? He quoted me 70 and fixed it as he said, and has probably forgotten more about cameras than most shops know about them. A true asset to the community and he could have charged double and I would still have been glad to give him my money.
Awesome awesome camera workshop. also has some old batteries and film for sale. the owner is extremely knowledgeable and has a wonderful sense of humour
I had a GREAT experience at Walters Camera and Digital Repairs. Not only was it an in-and-out, quick, completely reasonably priced fix, but Walter himself was a wonderfully kind guy... I will without a doubt be back next time I have any camera problem.
I have been to Walters Camera several times to fix cameras and my favorite lens! The owner is beyond knowledgable, friendly and most important a honest man! His prices to repair cant be beat!Since I have frequented Walters Camera several times & I know my experience it makes me wonder about these 1 star reviews?Ill tell you this.. Walters is my very first go-to for repairs.Canon is my second and Samys is my last option.
I have read rave reviews and I am already bought before I go in. I was imagining Walter to be like keymaker from the Matrix being near Chinatown. I am in for surprise. I wonder how he can work on Camera with those fingers. He is a strongly opinonated type. He recommend me not to buy a new expensive Camera and he recommended me not to take my camera to Hawaii to prevent it from damaging. He has other opinions as well. Having the knowledge that he is not the type to lie and magnify the problems for money is very reassuring. So I have requested him to remove an eyelash inside viewfinder and get a viewfinder rubber rest since mine is lost. I asked how much and he name the price for viewfinder rest. I gave him the money along with the $5 tips. We have a bit of conversation afterward and I get a lens cleaner brush. I ask how much?. He said you gave me tip. I will give you this free. We are even.
Called about 5min ago, a male foreign answer the phone with a greeting. I simply ask if they have a layaway service for the holiday. His response was really rude, he curse at me then hung up.. Okay maybe I called the wrong number? I called again, no answer I proceeded to call multiple times . This time someone picked up the phone and hung up. I grabbed my business phone and I called again this time the same foreigner answered with the same greeting. This time I asked if they had the the Canon g20. He responded in a rudely manner by saying, what about it? So I asked again do you guys carry the canon g20? He responded really again by cursing and hanging up. That was really unprofessional reading the reviews and how many stars it has I expected a better service over the phone. Now I dont even want to walk in to the store I rather go to Sammys .
The man made me cry when he fixed my camera at no cost. I went to Samys and they said $300 to send to Sony and no guarantee they can fix because the camera is so old (8 years old). I heard about Walters Camera and Digital Repairs and took it for a second opinion. He opened it up, came back and said that there was a loose wire. He fixed it and would not take any money. I will reward this man in another way. Bless him!
Reasonable price. Friendly service!
Walter very quickly identified the problem with my 1970s SLR and helped me out. He was kind, patient and very knowledgeable. I will certainly return for any future problems! A+!
Took in Hasselblad equipment for estimate and repair. I was supposed to hear from them within the week but didnt so I called them about 2 weeks later. When I asked about the estimate I asked what was included in the charge. He got really defensive and I tried to explain that I wanted to know what I was getting for the money I was spending. He quickly snapped and said he wasnt interested in doing the repair, said I needed to come pick up the equipment and then hung up on me. So I picked up my equipment and took it to Steves Camera in Culver City. I couldnt have been treated better at Steves. Walters was rude and very unprofessional. They will never get my business. Look elsewhere people, LAs a big enough city to have several options to choose from.
The repair guy will do professional work at a not so expensive price.
Walters is AMAZING! Im a high school photography teacher and I just brought them a ragtag collection of old film cameras. A couple trusty K-1000s, 2 of my beloved Olympus Stylus Epics, a Canon Elan, a Vivitar... . Id basically decided they were all paper weights because usually repairs cost more than buying a new used camera, but I thought Id give Walters a try. The gentleman (whose name is not Walter but if i tried Id mangle his name so ill leave it at that) was delightful. He assessed each camera and what it needed, gave me a price while I was there so I could decide if id leave it with him or not (i left them all). He called me just THREE days later to pick them all up! All are working now for a very reasonable price. This is my new favorite small business - I highly recommend Walters Cameras!
I had my Nikon DSLR serviced at Walters CVDR. Walter was able to fix my cameras shutter problem and replaced its defective parts. Hopefully for good. The repair cost is fairly competitive compared to other NIKON shops. Walter is a soft spoken man but needs to improve customer service; but hey hes like 100 years old! We chatted about the shutter error of my camera and the parts needed to be replaced. The warranty is good only for 90 days of normal usage. He suggested some tips on how to care for your camera. Walter reminds me of Mr. Wilson of Denise the Menace. I had a good experience with Walters CVDR shop.
Amazing work, great price and very fast. The Superman of camera repairs!! A true genius.
They lost my flash
Supprting local camera shops is important to me. But, you never know what youre going to get. I rarely write reviews, but I felt compelled after my experience here to log something. I had the pleasure to be waited on by Sayed. I brought my Nikon D5200 in to be cleaned. Sayed is clearly knowledgeable and pleasant. Although small, the shop is chock full of all kinds of cameras and simply has that lost-in-the-world-of-big-business feel of a local shop with an owner who actually cares. Add to those shop attributes the fact that Sayed is as honest as they come, and you get the result that I will definitely be back. Visit this place - it is the real deal.
I see others had a great experience. I did not. I had a Hasselblad lens for cleaning. I got it back with a loose keeper ring and a delaminated lens. He charged me fully for the cleaning. When I asked why is the keeper ring loose and the lens now delaminated he said, I saw that but I didnt say anything to you. When I asked then why charge for the cleaning he ignored me. The lens was fine before and would not have delaminated in 3 days to that extent unless it was dropped or switched out with another lens element. I only go to Samys now.
Great shop I took my nikon d40x there and not only did he clean it for cheap he gave me great tips for my camera
This is a con man. Do not Lose your cash
He fixed my old Nikon in short notice and at a budget price!!

Great place, super friendly and knowledgeable owner
What a horrible attitude!! POOR customer service.
Honest and good service
This old school shop can fix your camera
Nice clerks
My camera has been sitting there for 2 month. Every other week I called and asked, they said it’ll be ready in couple days, and told me they will call when it’s ready. But never hear back like how the other comments mentioned.
