I really enjoyed this Latin American museum where I learned about Judy Baca and the interactive video is like a documentary of how the paintings were done during a half mile of the Great Wall of Los Angeles.
I came here many years ago and remembered there being a ton more art and rooms to see. Ive returned as an older person and realize how little there is to see (or maybe I am used to larger museums). The art is detailed and has tons of details, but not many pieces made me really WOW like other museums of similar type have. I came alone, and nobody but an over surplus of guards was here, and they all couldnt stop following me around. Felt like they were breathing down my neck throughout my entire visit, and I felt like I was being pressured to leave by how much they kept staring strangely and making me feel uncomfortable.
😀 I had such a great time at this museum. Its truly an artistic movement and a vibe. The moving picture room captivated me and my little one. All the artists featured here presented their souls. An affordable weekend outing for the family forsure!!
I recently visited this museum during a conference field trip. They closed off the museum and we only had a chance to see part of it. A lot of great art displayed. We had a private lunch in their patio area. Lots of cactus and a stage where mariachi performed. I’d love to come back and check out the rest of the museum.
One of the staff there told me to move my son away from the art. I understand if I was letting my son do whatever he wants that’s why I’m being told that but I kept an eye on my child the whole entire time and maybe this place isn’t autism/kid friendly. I don’t recommend this place at ALL.
I enjoyed my time at MOLAA, I liked the exhibits were nice, the music was great, and the food trucks were nice. Overall, I think this is an important place to see a different perspective from what I am used too. However, I did not feel like I learned much about Latin American Art when I went. My best guess is that they were doing work on an exhibit. I would suggest checking what exhibit is on display before going, so you dont run into the problem I did. Will come back to see the new exhibits!
The current tattoo exhibit is especially incredible, with very personal stories, and moving representations of those stories being tattooed onto the people sharing their experiences. If you have the chance to check it out before it wraps, you absolutely should. The rest is also good. Incredibly reasonable ticket prices as well.
Beautiful museum showcasing both the modern and historical Latin experience in the United States of America.
MOLAA is a museum dedicated to Latin American Art in Southern California in Long Beach; the only museum in the US to exclusively feature works by people of Latin American decent. It is relatively a midsize museum, impeccably clean, well curated, air conditioned and wonderful exhibits.Parking lot is huge. Admission price is relatively affordable; Sundays are free!! Staff are friendly and competent. Museum store is small and souvenirs are tad pricey. Overall, a good museum that every family or individual should visit and enjoy Hispanic Culturas y Artes.
Very nice Museum to visit when in the Long Beach area.
Amazing and Wonderful place
Love this space soo much. In 2018 I saw some amazing exhibitions here including; INK Stories on Skin and Judith Hernandez A Dream is the Shadow of Something Real. This place is singular in its focus on Latin American artist, that usually get overlooked at other places. Large space, but the exhibitions are curated very well, so it doesnt feel like youre at a loss. They have talks and an interactive space to do art. The gift shop is small but I really enjoyed some of the things they sell. Love this place, parking is on site or on the street and Sundays are free. Definitely would recommend, if you have time for only one thing in Long Beach make it the MOLAA
An amazing museum that highlights the great Latino artists of all kinds. Really made me feel proud to be Latino
Small museum, neat paintings and art. Free on Sundays.
Nice smaller museum...I spent 1-1,5 hours very interesting exhibit at the time -Horizons The last 3 art galleries I visited the artist addressed #plastic #trash # sustainability: good for awareness --need #action. Another aspect of the exhibit was emotions of peoples plight in life. One was #heartbreaking letters from inmates to authorities asking for a trial...mist had been waiting years. #textile art #photography #video
I like it cuz its small and its free on Sunday and you can walk through the whole thing and its fairly short amount of time but theres a lot to see. I went there probably 6 months ago and its 100% completely different which was refreshing.
I brought my sons here to learn about other cultures. Us fishers come as white as paper and it was eye opening to learn about Latin American Art. My sons Jacob and Gabriel cannot wait to return.
An amazing experience every time I visit MOLAA. Ive been coming to rhis museum ever since it a small little house. This place never disappoints with its various colection of art.
Small but interesting.
The exhibits were fine and they have a great sculpture garden.
You never know whats going to be on display here! The rotating exhibits are delightful. Very different from each other. Right now theyre showing huge black and white photographs made of gunpowder! After the artist creates his images he lights them on fire! Each panel is at least 6 ft tall by 3 to 5 ft wide. Haunting images. In another gallery they have textile scenes sown by women protesting their governments in Chile. then you walk into the gift shop and its a whole another gallery in and of itself. Yolanda Gonzalezs painted vases and bowls are truly amazing! Thursday nights the museum stays open late and they have guest artists present their wares in the foyer. Please stop by and support artists work.
Amazing. Much more than I expected for the low admission price! Many regions represented, and bilingual placards on every piece.
Interesting......the current exhibition is Gráfica América. There was some pretty cool stuff in there and other things that just made you ask WTH is that?! But hey its art right? Yea I dont know.....I found that timeline of printmaking and Colonization interesting. There was one room I really did enjoy it was by Cuban artists Osmeivy Ortega Pacheco, the techniques and materials he used were very cool how he was able to put everything together. I really liked Los Nidos de Plata.I wouldnt mind returning to see what other exhibits they have after this one is over, it would depend thought.
It is an average musium without a public Fi-Wi access. Every Sunday, the entrance fee is waived.
Great exhibits. Nice staff.
Great place to visit, so many great art on display, the gift shop is amazing and on Sunday target sundays it is free! No entry fee to the museum for all who visit!
Great tour guides cool art
Underrated Museum of LA. Free parking AMD free on Sundays.
Where my boi snoop at?
Interesting works from established artists as well as new voices. I wish the gift shop would reflect this in their items and not the cliche items offered. The security is mostly friendly, some are reminiscent of a convenience store clerk. Overall, not a bad way to spend a few hours of your day.
Nice experience.
Loved it!
Great place, that represents the Latino community on Art and History.... Sunday’s free admission
It was cool.
The reviews are accurate! The restaurant was clean and the staff was very professional and attentive. Our server, Luis Miguel, answered all our questions and was very genuine. The food was fantastic and the portions were large. A bonus was our server spoke English which helps since we dont speak Spanish.
Great exhibition.
What an incredible place for art and even more so by Latin American artist! i went during the weekend and it was not packed at all. Parking was ample, all the galleries had amazing pieces some interactive.if youre looking for a gem to spark that creative flow or just want to immerse yourself in art this is the place
Great place to visit and experience some culture. Great exhibits and delicious food vendors available. Also had some poppin live music and my 1 year old loved it.
Love coming here and seeing what amazing pieces of art is being exhibited
Great I learn America workshop!!
The artists exhibits and exhibitions in this museum are always so interesting and beautiful. If you havent been to this wonderful museum before, its worth spending a couple of hours on a tour.
We liked this museum a lot. The entrance was for free on Sunday, and we had a chance to enjoy several great exhibitions. All artists works are well explained, there are also screens with video for more information. The light set up is very good and shows the artworks in a very clear way.Parking is free, and spacious. Sculpture garden didnt impress us though.
Was a cool place.
Lots of beautiful art made by Latin Americans. They also host events on the property featuring Latin American culture. Events are opportunities to experience aunthentic cuisine and products. So keep an eye out for events.
Where was the Mexican art/artists/history/heritage??I am glad it was free day today we went for a school project but there was not much to write about art was about attention current politicsAnd main art was centered on LGBTNo offense but very disappointing.2002 Long Beach had a real Latin art exhibit small but more realistic why you go thereNow it’s about someone’s agenda
They always have interesting and thought provoking exhibits here. Pretty cheap too. Great mini getaway if you are ever in the longbeach area
Cool art
Creepy
Every time I go to the LA area I enjoy the cutting edge exhibits at MOLAA. In Sept., 2018+, this was literally true as one of their special shows was on LA tattoos. In addition to the naval connection to LA and international roots of this body art, various local artists works were displayed. Also, one section had videos of various people selected who would receive tattoos on specified days during the exhibit. In addition works by two female Latino artists were shown. And do step outside in the walled in back courtyard where sculpture and cacti are displayed together. Currently, the outside café is closed for renovations. Free parking is available in the adjacent lot, and do stop into the museum shop that has gifts related to current exhibits. And enjoy free admission on Sundays thanks to Target.
Very nice, well organized and well presented museum. Good diversity of artists but I didnt find it to be very interesting. Its nice because we went on a free Sunday but I wouldnt spend money on it. But I think its awesome they feature not very well known LATIN artists.
I came here for my first time and I am just taken back by the art here. All the pieces and designs displayed here are just wonderful! The staff here at the museum are friendly and helpful people. I would recommend people to come to this museum and appreciate all the wonderful forms of art displayed here! They give a discount as well if you are a student.
Cool small museum, glad we found it. They had some very interesting exhibits when we visited.

A fantastic local museum who has some really unique exhibits. The history and art that they draw from locally really opened my eyes to what was around me in just my backyard.I was incredibly impressed by the exhibits they had and I am eager to plan another once another of their exhibits catches my eye.

I really enjoyed my experience here. I came with my students, the process was simple, our docents were passionate, knowledgeable and communicated well with the students. So much interesting and beautiful art, worth coming back for.

For such a beautiful space, it has very little art. Only five galleries in total and two were closed when I went to visit.
Molaa has always been a wonderful museum . so many events and nice art. The two gentlemen in the front were amazing and helpful. I cant wait to start planning to attend more events. I love this place.
There is an interesting selection of art here. Different media, some interactive, some moving sculptures. Lots of very creative things. The price is also reasonable. $10 for general admission, cheaper for seniors and students, free on Sundays. The only thing I dont like is the lack of background information. I didnt understand a lot of the pieces and a plaque or audio recording or pamphlet explaining them would have been nice.
Amazing art on rotation, featuring artists from all over Latin America (who knew?!). Target sponsors free admission in Sundays, so check-in at the front and enjoy. I recommend dropping at least a buck in the donation bucket, but no hate for those who cant. Do you, man. Enjoy the art!
Nice, spacious, relaxed museum. A while ago I saw the Gráfica América exhibit which I really liked. Adequate parking. Nice museum shop with crafts items.
Wonderful art work. Sponsors community events such as the Cultural Alliance. Sundays are free to Long Beach residents. Many Latino artists are responsible for such beautiful productions. Love for the community is exibited in contributions made to youth by offering a summer workshop and memberships to the museum are offered to the public.
Clean friendly staff great exhibits. And free admission on Sundays! Also within walking distance to some pretty great places to eat there in Long Beach, you can even ride a lime scooter or bike to a local restaurant and get there and no time and avoid the traffic!
Such a lovely museum! I had never been before. Went to see 2 specific temporary exhibitions that were very well curated. Reasonable entry fee. Helpful staff. My only complaint is some of the art descriptions were oddly placed; requiring 1 to bend to the floor to read.
Very nice little museum. Parking is abundant and free, and the staff was very friendly and helpful, and happily gave us a verbal tour of what to expect from the exhibitions. The art had quite a lot of variety and there was plenty to enjoy. The atmosphere was very quiet but open and welcoming, and even the security personnel were open and friendly. Unfortunately, we werent able to see the sculpture garden, but we were given free tickets to come back at a later time when itd be open (we were advised to call in first to make sure). Awesome! A wonderful experience overall.
Small and not many paintings
Beautiful work from Latin artists
I went a Sunday and really enjoyed the Latin art based on the 90s Chicano life. However I noticed, there was no central American art, I think that would be great to add into the museum. This museum kinda takes me back to college days for the MECHA student group which was mainly based on Mexican American history. No central Americans? Anyway, Latin America is huge, Id love to see art from around Latin America.
Really disappointed with this museum, which looks big and modern from outside, but inside is doesnt have many paintings or art work, just very few. Not worth the drive unfortunately.Btw I was so surprised by the many good reviews for this museum, but it seems that many are for events, workshops, or even the store.
Visiting recently we encountered and exhibition of Latin American and Caribbean works focused on environment. There was also an interesting panel and discussion related to the exhibition. Top quality all around and I look forward to future visits.
The MOLAA was Empty! What did I pay for? Was it robbed? Where did all the wonderful Latin American Art go?The first 2 rooms I entered had NO ART on the walls. White walls with nothing on them. I did notice the wide open spaces, high ceilings and nice hardwood floor. Instead, there were some basic information boards displayed in English and Spanish about Spanish people. I could have googled that! When I entered a third very large empty room, I noticed art, as there were 2 large brown murals on the walls. But thats it. The murals were not to my taste. The 2 very similar murals depicted tattooed people performing tasks such as one person on her cell phone, one person drinking beer, and one person getting a tattoo. In the background was a painted floor-like tile pattern. I left to see what was in the next room, and once again, the only thing in the room was 1 or 2 more of the same murals. We found a smaller room with two small scenes on tables. One had a farm scene and other had an inventor and his invention scene. There were also 2 small (18 inches?) screens with video of the 2 scenes coming to life. Okay, that was interesting... Last, we found a room with about 20 small place mat-sized fabric art pieces on the wall. Somewhere along the way was an area with art that was supposed to be waves (?) in abstract, but they werent presented well (no frames, etc.) and looked... abstract. We were told about a sculpture garden, so we ventured to find it. Poor signage. We found ourselves walking outside along a narrow passageway between 2 buildings for about 50 feet to find the sculpture garden. It was an open stark cement area with about 10 sculptures (some in disrepair with paint peeling). When we returned to the lobby, we saw a group of performers yelling at each other, acting out a scene.I had really thought that MoLAA was going to be something special. This museum has GREAT bones and could and should be amazing. It should contain a variety of art and and has the capacity to hold a lot of amazing art. Maybe the curator could please visit some of the other museums around Los Angeles County, like, El Segundo (ESMoA), Los Angeles (LACMA, the Getty, the Broad Museam), and get inspired to fill the Art Museum with art!
A nice little art gallery. Had some really cool exhibits when I visited.
This Museum was fantastic! I loved the stories behind the Artist the displays of Artistic work was the coolest Ive seen all my life ❤
Its free for military personnel.Loved the museum. Been here a few times already and on my recent trip to Long Beach, CA, came here twice. They have a little bit of everything here.On my recent visit, they had the Rembrandt special exhibit. Pretty popular packed with many many visitors. But their permanent exhibits include the American wing, European wing, Egypt and Asian exhibits. From art, to Victorian furniture, sculptures and modern art can be found all over here. Its a must visit if youre visiting Long Beach.Just take the Green line to the Arts Museum station.
This museum is awesome! Been here twice in the last few months, and it never disappoints. Cost of entry is beyond reasonable at $10. I highly recommend MOLAA.
