As closing nears and we reflect on the legacy of the Lincoln Park Sears, we must ask ourselves what were we most fond of with this location? What was it about Sears that stood apart from their competitors and kept us coming back? Many were very fond of Sears and proud shoppers for years, this location in particular, whose legacy dates back to 1956 when it first opened as part of the Lincoln Park Shopping Center. Decades of appliance sales, reasonably priced clothing, driving school instruction, auto care and more were all staples of the experience. While things have been looking bleak for the company as a whole the last few years, this location stood its ground nonetheless and persevered. Unfortunately, corporate mismanagement over the years and an inability to compete in the 21st century as well as they had the previous one led to the situation we find ourselves in this 2018 Holiday season - the closing of the Lincoln Parks Sears. A sad development to be sure, seeing the store look almost pillaged inside with the barebones merchandise and tables and empty fixtures everywhere. Feels apocalyptic. Sears will always have a place in our hearts, if not a place on Dix and Southfield Road. The last stand of the Lincoln Park Shopping Center, we bid farewell to 62 years of this Sears, as we now face an uncertain and volatile future ahead of us.

Ive been buying my appliances from Sears for several decades now. I love to purchase everything at one place. A lot of people arent aware that Sears does price matching. So theres another way to save money.They also give you store points, based on the dollar amount you just spent, to use on ANYTHING in the store (or online). Another great bonus!I just made another purchase. My salesman, Jay, was so helpful. Very knowledgeable even though he hasnt been there very long. I got a great deal and cant wait to get my washer and dryer.

Sad that this store is closing. Originally went here to obtain a water filter for a Kenmore fridge after looking online for one. Their website claimed to not have any in stock at this store but they did anyway when I arrived there in person. Lastly, for whatever reason, its also worth noting that the entrance doors closest to Southfield Rd. have been sealed off and are all missing door handles.

There are no words for how terrible this sears location is! Went here to purchase Christmas presents for my husband (tools), walked around the tools department for a minimum of 30 minutes and was not approached by one single employee to help with questions I had. I decided on a small purchase since I didnt feel I should even be purchasing from a place with such poor customer service. Stood in line forever while a young kid stood at a register looking at the line and not taking customers and another lady slowly took customers. The lady taking customers took an elderly lady behind me before taking me. Im all for being considerate to the elderly but Im pregnant and was holding a heavy box. Finally the kid looks at me and says I can take you over here?! He had been standing there just watching the line for a minimum of 15 minutes and just now decides to a customer?! Then forgets to ring up one of my items and doesnt tell me until I go to walk away after paying. He mentions that the item he left out could be used with a coupon that had just printed for my original purchase but then has to ask another employee how to apply it. The other employee ends up telling him the coupon could not be used for the item I had and the kid just stands there with a blank stare and seemed to have no clue. I ended up leaving that item on the counter and walking out. I will never understand how these companies operate with such terrible service!?

Im pretty sure the only independent Sears store left. Business seems slow unless its Christmas shopping season but I havent the slightest ideas why, the sales are AMAZING and way better than Macys or even J. C. Penny most of the time. Staff is friendly and helpful and they have everything from clothes and shoes to automotive repair!

I cant THANK Sears Lincoln Park enough for their thoughtfulness and generosity, especially Kim. Sears LP employees raised funds to donate to our high school families for Christmas. Additionally, this Easter, Kim provided a dinner for one of our families. We greatly appreciate all that you do for us and our community.

I parked on the opposite side of the store from merchandise pick up. I met the most wonderfully helpful salesperson who made sure I found the pick up area. I wish I had asked her name. My wait time was no more than 3 min. Employees were helpful and courteous!

I know Sears wont be around much longer but I wish they still stocked their shelves with more Made In U.S.A. products like they use too! I am sure they would bring in more business with customers who still want to buy quality American made products. Right now the only reason I am giving this store a 5 star rating is because they were open on the 4th Of July and yes I found the made in the U.S.A. product I was looking for.I grew up shopping at Sears because of the quality items they had and the service I received, I have seen the decline over the past 5 yrs, just maybe they will remain open so we all have a store to physically shop at, instead of shopping online !

I thought this place had to be better taken care if now days that its one of. Few in MI? but is not! I tried using their online shop and pick up at the store.. It as horrible! Slow and no signs at all or indication whatsoever telling you where inside the store to pick up your stuff! Its been 2 days my order still processing! I try to pick it up today but its not ready to pick up! Might a well go shopping or pay for shipping! The only good was the person who helped me was very nice! Do not recommend this store or their order online pick up in store service

I love Sears and their bonus points if you sign up for them! Today I bought a 26 dollar jacket and 2 packs of socks it only cost me 2 dollars! I love it!

Good merchandise selection, lots of bargains, and lots of specials. The personnel Id very friendly and helpful. Running short of certain sizes that may be due to seasonal adjustment.

There are a lot of nice looking clothes here, but most are fast fashion, and look like they were made in sweat shops. Theres no way someone was paid a fair wage if Im paying $8 for a pair of leggings. Cheap prices, but not a good place to buy if you want to support a fair working wage for the clothing you buy.

Ordered an item to store from their online service which is an experience that creates a lot of conflict. Sears as a store is undoubtedly ran in a way that makes it barely a thriving competitor with a lot of its existing area left looking dated and staff are fairly sparse but much of what this store lacks is well known. What I do want to review is what was done right. As most of us know, most stores offer a direct to store option now for ordering items that arent carried on store shelves however most stores have yet to get this process close to perfection, although the pickup location was a less intuitive process than others the process of pickup is hands down one of the most painless I have experienced. It appears that the store has dedicated personnel for this purpose and it shows as it was prompt and helpful and it allows the customer to launch the exact order before an employee attempts to retrieve it saving time and frustration.

From one of the first large strip malls in the downriver & having the largest Sears even having a grand opening with a parade of elephants.To just an abandoned shopping mall with a dying Sears on the side.As a kid GameStop, the toy store & the awesome escalators. The place is dying sadly but we all probably have some cool memories. So still giving it 5 Stars for the history of the place.

The only store that we could find clothing that actually fit & many other items that we could not find for great prices at other places. We are so going to miss Sears when they close. Sure wish they would reconsider & keep them open.

My daughter received two outfits from sears for her second birthday. They were purchased in a size that was too small for my her so we went in to exchange them for a size larger. These items were gifted to me without any receipt. As I approached the counter to make my exchange I was informed that I couldnt exchange the gift without having a receipt. I find this to be unacceptable. I will no longer be shopping at sears for anything in the future. I could not imagine accidentally purchasing a gift in the wrong size for someone and them being treated as if they stole it when they went in to exchange the exact same item for a different size.

I love Sears. They have excellent customer service, great sales and everything from clothing to car service, appliances, vacuums and electronics. Clothing ranges from children to adults, whether it be casual or formal, petite, xxxxxl, womens and juniors.

Service, selection and quality. I have purchased everything from underwear to pliers here. Outdoor power tool associates are very helpful and knowledgeable. Great location and good hours.

What an awesome experience weve had! Our refrigerator went out and we needed a needed to replace it and it was not quite in the budget. I was able to find the same refrigerator on pretty much all the major retailers websites for varying prices, Sears was the least expensive matching Home Depots price. So after narrowing it down, I was able to apply a $65 dollar coupon from Sears for appliances. On top of that they rewarded me with $27 to use towards another purchase. I remain very impressed. I bought our lawn mower the next day using the money they gave me and another extraordinary coupon. Kudos to you Sears as a company for using your brand power and I truly hope to see the company make a full comeback. You have earned customers for all of our appliances as well as other major purchases. We feel truly fortunate to have a place to shop that has all the major brands and is a family store as opposed to a home improvement store.On another note, today was the day of delivery. At first, we were given the window of anytime today. Then we were contacted with a two hour window. We were given a courtesy call to let us know they were around 30 minutes from being here. That was really nice. When the gentlemen came to deliver they were genuinely friendly. Derrick was the best delivery person I have worked with, ever! He explained things in detail. He explained the fridge and the warranties on the fridge. The refrigerator came in my door ready to go without any stickers, I didnt have to spend a half hour after they left taking off a bunch of junk. Derrick put more effort into the delivery of our refrigerator than some car salespeople put into a vehicle delivery. I am fairly certain that he works for a subcontractor, I hope that this gets passed along because the customer service was extraordinary and deserves to be rewarded.

Wide variety of merchandise, good prices, friendly staff. I had forgotten how much I like Sears until I went back today. Ill go again this week because I didnt have time to really look around and shop, but I was able to find and purchase the specific item I intended in a short amount of time.

Well they are going out of business. Went to get some good deals. They were more expensive in their sales than the black Friday sales at other stores. Needed a dishwasher... Sears $450 on sale..... Lowes $399. Same model #. No wonder they are shutting down

Extremely professional staff, very courteous and friendly. The place is very up to date with electronically pricing on some items, and employees with iPads. They have many options to pick from in every department, witch make things very convenient.

They are having a closing sale, very good deals up to 70% off on items...its busy due to sales but not as bad. The salesperson is polite and considerate.

This is the only Sears close to me not very close but. They just has his five like theyre closing or something it just the displays and the way the signs are and I know it just has this feeling like theyre going to be closing. All the stuff I look for then it have any in my size

Growing up shopping at Sears the Lincoln Park, MI store has been a long favorite of mine. Knowing they are closing atound the first of the year, I went in hopeful to grab some of the clothing and other good Ive always bought there.With everything marked down 29% to 30% store wide you would never know they are slated for closure. It was well stocked, the cashiers as friendly as ever and I was able to get everything I wanted and them some.My experience today was like always, very positive. Ill likely go back before the holidays start. Im sad its going to close.

I had to go and get a blade for my Sears edger. OMG they didnt have it. I think they have more tools at Ace Hardware. It looked like they were closing the store? The tool Department look like you could park a few cars in it. There was wide open spaces all over, I couldnt find anybody that worked there? It looks sad... Ill miss the old Sears. I Wouldnt be surprised if they tear it down and build a Walmart store there.

They are open on Sundays, which can be convenient for many needing minor service such as oil changes and tires. Major repairs will require your vehicle to be left over night .

Trashy, employees are rude and dont know what the heck is going on. Went to the back to do a return, glad we made sure they did it correctly because they didnt. Then she tells us we have to go to a register to get our actual money back, walk all the way around the store to find one that is actually open, and she doesnt know what the heck the return slip is. Then another employee came up and assumed i was trying to rig the system and get my money twice. Then says it says right here on the slip that it is refunded. TRAIN YOUR EMPLOYEES THE SAME WAY. Not that difficult. They wont be open for much longer...save your time and go somewhere else...got a clear example today of why they cant stay open.

This is the only store Ive ever shopped at that will NOT match their online sales. I found a Craftsman Tool on their website on sale for $89, I printed out the copy only to be able to match the drill when I went to the store. It rang up at $109. I showed them my paper & a sales manager told me they have crazy online sales and do NOT match their own online pricing. I would have to order it online and then pick it up at the back of the store. Really???? You would rather lose a sale of $150 than honor your own sale?? ( I had other items too...that I left at the counter)... No thank you....Ill do my business elsewhere....I can see why Sears is doing so poorly......

Its been a while since I set foot in a sears store, today I was looking for parts for an older craftsman snowblower. Once a mighty leader in tools and garden equipment, sears has given up on being competitive. A quick look around the store shows they carry many different brands. Likewise you can buy craftsman equipment and tools at various hardware and department stores. The craftsman brands I looked at are now manufactured in Mexico or China. A little lower in price and lower quality. So I finally catch a person working the floor to inquire about the parts I need - no parts in stock. Great, a wasted trip. Another visit to this store would be unlikely for me.

We bought a TV with a repair protection agreement. The TV broke and couldnt not be fix. The sales lady said she could not help, Sears dont sale TV anymore. No TV no gift card sorry for you. I am waiting for an hour and a half with no solution will update. The manager Sherry came to talk to the sales lady she would not even talk or look at us.

AwwwwActually most of my older relatives bought all of their appliances, TVs, etc at this very store back in the day. Sears was the first national store to grant credit to Black people, if I remember right. Though could have been Monkey Wards.

I used to go to the Lincoln Park Sears and the Montgomery Wards on shaeffer and Michigan avenue with my grandparents all the time when I was a kid... Now Im in my late 50s.. monkey wards took a dive a few years back and now its Sears turn.. went to Sears the other day to pay my respects to the old girl and ride the escalators up and down one last time... Goodbye Sears... Time has passed you by and has moved on without you.

The only thing I like about Sears is the Tuesday sales other than that the bathrooms were horrifying, customer service was terrible!& there were no toilet seat covers in any of the Stalls😵 no one greeted us or offer to help. I worked at this location for several years (2011-2018) and I can tell you that some of the kindest people work in this store. For those of you who complained about long waits and poor service, you can thank Sears Holdings for that. FYI, this store was profitable until the very end. We are talking millions of dollars in shoe sales alone.They began cutting hours sometime in 2016 based on the stores profitability. When this happened, the first people who got hours cut were cashiers. Because of this, salespeople were pulled from the floor several times per day to help ring items. Do you know why you wandered around the department for 30 minutes and no one approached you? Because the sales consultants were all stuck behind registers ringing clothes. Additionally, being forced to offer credit on top of awards programs, explaining those programs, signing up and perhaps even running a credit application... Sears was not about SPEED like Walmart is. Every customer was intended to be treated equally.Obviously consultative salespeople got sick of this and began dropping off like flies. Those that stayed, well, constantly complained about it.I am going to miss this store and Im sad I didnt get to stop in and say goodbye to my old friends.Koren you were the best Manager I ever had and you were so easy to talk to about anything, Ron Ill never forget all the laughs we had, Dale thanks for all the idle small talk during downtime, Jim thanks for being the only tool associate I could count on, Anna youre the PA queen! I know the optical center took amazing care of me. I was uninsured and came up with the most horrific eye infection, the doc wanted me to go to a specialist. I explained I had no insurance so for 6 months I traveled between Lincoln park and Westland Sears optical. My vision went from 20/20 to 20/200, he got me back to 20/40, the meds were thousands, he gave me samples, saw him 3 times a week, I was charged once a week, will not state what he charged me, but I will day it was less than a one time cab fare, as I couldnt see at ask to drive. That man is my hero

It was okay to shop here Im actually at Fairlane Town Center Sears. With about 5 people in line I waited 30 minutes. The woman behind the counter had to be a trainee and slow as she could be. I hate checkouts at Sears theres nothing fast about it. That should be a very good experience since we are all coughing up good money when we come here. The least you can do Sears as make it Pleasant get some more workers speed up the checkout process it makes me not want to come to Sears. And Sears why are you losing stores because your checkout processes are awful. And its always hot in the store turn down the heat save a couple dollars!

Sears has so many items on sale. Some items are up to 70% off. If you have the time to shop you may find something that you can use. Most stores attached to the large parking lot are already closed.

I Couldnt Find Some shoes so an employee kindly help me order them online to be picked up at Lincoln Park store or so I thought when I got the message to pick up I when to the store and they told me they were at Westland 12 miles away. That someone make a mistake and to look online for the phone # of Westland store and their address so they can send it to the right place ohhhh I was mad I ask for a manager so that someone can help me because I am not driving on this weather 12 miles if the are not even sure if my shoes are there 40 minutes latter I decided to walk out because they are so incomplete and so faking stupid to help me. I will give a star to the employee that help me order it because at least he was polite

Not enough registers open I wanted a peice of luggage the 4 registers for the entire store early on a sunday just a few in line at each but I waited 30 mins and walked to the other registers in mens and parts could not get serviced so I left the luggage their

Family came in from out of town, bought me some clothes worth $60. Clothing did not fit, tried to exchange, sears will not exchange without receipt . Very poor customer service. I hope no one ever buy from them again. My family wasted 60$ this week for nothing, of corse they lost the receipt and sears will never accommodate. This is why Walmart will put you out of business.
