They gave it another makeover. The inside is cool now and makes me wanna hang out there! The bagels are just as before but not so much the sandwiches.

Just finished my amazing “Jam on It” breakfast sandwich that my hubby brought home. Great packaging, sandwich still warm, delicious combination on asiago bagel. Bagels are thick and chewy, just the way I like them. Great staff! We love this shop.

Delicious bagels and bagel sandwiches. Donuts on Saturday if you get there early enough. Everything is fresh, tastes wonderful, and is reasonably priced. Super friendly staff and a fun, vibrant location.

Ever since undergoing new ownership, the quality has been going down. Cream cheese is different- no longer has the fresh, rich flavor. Orders are consistently wrong. Orders take far longer than quoted time. Bagels are not as fresh. This is not the bagels by the book it uses to be!

I have been going to Bagels By the Book for 25 years and noticed the changes in the quality immediately. The bagels are thin, not fully cooked through and not toasted well. The everything bagel topping has changed and they have also removed the Spinach Herb bagel, which I loved. I got a bacon, egg and cheese on everything and they have definitely switched to using cheaper bacon. The quality was weak, the cheese was not melted on the bagel and because it was placed in an unnecessary plastic container (why add more plastic, the foil was better to begin with), it added moisture to the bagel, which made it chewy. Disappointing and I hope the new ownership takes into consideration making any major changes to recipe because I am not the only one in the community who has been a long-time customer. Hoping for a better experience next time.

Loved it! They really do it by the book!! Had a jalapeno cheddar bagel with egg and sausage, a plain bagel and a blueberry bagel and they were all really delicious! Would like to try their lunch menu next time.

The bagels, the spreads and the service are awesome. I wasnt sure I would like the hot cheeto bagels, and now Im hooked. I buy however many they have of that kind when I go in. I would sign a non-compete agreement and pay to work here just to learn how to make bagels (the ones I make are terrible). The new owners are doing some great things to the look of the dining room and the private room to make it more inviting (when were allowed to dine-in again, hopefully soon). When I was in the other day, I saw a mural being painted on the wall of famous departed people. Will the half of The Who that retired make it onto the wall? (hint, hint) I guess Ill have to go back soon and see.

I was recently recommended by a Libertyville local to check this place out. I ordered a turkey pesto sandwich on a spinach bagel and a hippy hummus and they were SO good! They use real turkey (looks hand carved) and they have really cool flavors of cream cheese (pesto, goat cheese, sweet onion, etc).The inside is under remodel - new owners I hear. It looks super cute with a cool mural on the wall. Staff was uber friendly and looked like they were having fun while working. I loved the happy vibe going on there!Yum! cant wait to try more menu items.

Have been there a few times before it closed down (for repairs/ or new management took over my assumption) great experience. After it reopened not so much. The food is great, the place is on my way to work so I stop once in a while as a treat. Went there a few times after it has reopened assuming under new ownership, the customer services is not as good as it use to be. Today was the worst experience I have ever had there. The girl put my order on the counter basically threw like trowing a ball to a dog to fetch. The bag tipped over and fell over on top of the trash can. I picked it up, and the girl pretended not to see what happened. I said really out loud and she still ignored me. I looked inside the bad and one of the bagel boxes was closed and the other bagel fell out of the box and was all over the bag. I asked the girl to remake the bagel that was messed up, and told her that the bag fell on top of the trash. The girl didnt even apologize, turned to the other worker who I am assuming is either a manager or owner. She also did not even bother to apologize, and just yelled to the back person to account for one lost bagel. They remade the bagel I did not look at what was inside of the box until I got to work. And when I did, it was the smallest bagel ever basically a mini bagel. Seems like it was a bagel that did not make it to the shelf for sale because it was half the size. I made me feel like it was my fault the bag fell and they replaced it with something they could not sell because of the size. So I paid for full size product, and had a horrible experience. So disappointed. yes food is great! However the customer service is HORRIBLE!

Hands down one of the best places in all of Libertyville. The food is amazing, the staff is great, and the owners are amazingly kind people. I cannot recommend this place enough. Make sure to try the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on an Everything bagel. You will not be disappointed!

Great breakfast sandwiches and excellent donuts.

The food is good, but they never get orders correct. If you order a standard menu item they get it right, but even the smallest special order they get wrong and it has happened on almost every visit. Since you pay extra for those additions its even worse. Dont ever order take out they will get your order wrong and you will end up over paying for what you get.

Went on a Sunday morning and there was a line out the door. You know its a good place when people are willing to wait. I ordered a corned beef sandwich on a pumpernickel bagel- delicious. My husband had a breakfast sausage on a spinach bagel. We will definitely be back.

We stopped in on a Monday morning. Ordered a muffin, bagel with egg and cheese, and milk from the cooler. After 10 minutes, I couldnt wait any longer and asked the cashier for the muffin so at least my daughter had something. Others were still waiting for their orders as well. It looked like they had a nice assortment of bagels and muffins, but it takes over 10-15 minutes to put an egg and slice of cheese on a bagel.

Cozy comfortable place. Good bagels and bagel sandwiches. Good brew coffee. Great service. My favorite place for a quick family breakfast.

Their cinnamon rolls are really good too:) They offer several varieties of Green Mountain coffee and have a cooler with all sorts of juices, vitamin water, milk etc. The food is prepared right in front of you and its ready quickly. The bagel sandwiches are good and I have been coming here for years.That being said its no longer worth going there and having to listen to the owner swear and yell at her employees. One of my coworkers went to pick up bagels and when I got mine I saw that it had a bacon but I had ordered just egg and cheese (my receipt confirmed my order). I drove back to inform them that I did not want bacon and the lady just simply took the bagel from me and removed to bacon. I told her I was a vegetarian and so I did not want that bagel where she then told me the bacon is cooked on the same thing as the egg so it doesnt matter. She then gave me back my bagel and I was so shocked that I just walked out.

Why Im eating a Panera bagel right now, instead of the one by the book:I write this in January 2017, and I havent carried cash on me in over two years. NFC (apple pay, etc), debit cards, credit cards, have become ubiquitous. You can use them in vending machines for products less than $1.00.Yet for some archaic reason Bagels by the Book only accepts cards on orders $5.00 or more.Is this some ploy to drive up revenues because Panera is next store and stealing all the business? I didnt want to go to Panera, I wanted to patronize my local business Bagles by the Book (honestly havent been there in 10 years) but I only wanted a bagel, and I dont carry cash.To make a suggestion, to survive, to succeed, you need to get new customers, or bring back old ones. Seriously, the fees on credit card transactions are 2.5% + $0.30. Coffee shops all over take cards using Square, or Paypal, or any number of iPad based card readers for transactions much less than $5.00. If you cant afford credit or debit transactions for less than $5.00, then youre getting gouged on your processing; switch now to a better provider.When I walked over to Panera to get my bagel with cream cheese (because I wanted one, and nothing else, but only had a card), it was packed, crowded, bustling, and easy to pay (apple, samsung, debit, credit, so easy!).Ultimately, I felt bad, upset, and extremely irritated. I really wanted to get a bagel at Bagels by the book, but youve made it difficult to buy your food.

As a serious foodie and a huge breakfast fan I writing this on behalf of my friends, family and the original Bagels by the book community. As the overall product is good I think some things need to be addressed. The bagels themselves are honestly pretty good, not as big as the originals and maybe slightly denser but over all good. The everything bagels seasoning is off and I’m assuming it’s due to different ratios of ingredients, there is not enough salt, garlic and onion and the bagel eats bland. The cream cheese is completely different, even the “original sweet” is no where close to the original. Idk if it was a mistake, old product or just a poor recipe but my blueberry bagel with original sweet cream cheese had a strong goat cheese taste and was really not to my liking. The biggest problem I have with the new bagels is the bacon….. please go back to boars head or at least some close. You might have a quality bacon but it tastes like nothing. The eggs are fine but I personally would whisk them longer so it’s a consistent taste and texture. There was a bit of color on my eggs which I personally don’t mind but a lot of people hate over cooked eggs. The cheese was fine also not the same definitely not as melty but that could be due to the physical construction of the sandwich (not folding the egg omelette onto the cheese). As another customer stated the plastic containers are not great, if not wrapping the sandwich in tin foil is for health reason I don’t believe a hot bagel sandwich in plastic is much better. Parchment? Parchment sandwich sleeves? Over all the sandwiches eats very bland, not enough seasoning on the everything bagel, no saltiness from the bacon and no real flavor from the eggs/cheese. If even 1 of the 3 components are seasoned it’ll bring the whole sandwich together. On a positive note the baked goods were delicious along with the lemonade. The interior definitely got a huge boost and my order came out wicked fast. Please don’t take this message as hate, I want nothing more than a delicious breakfast sandwich and wish nothing but the best for your business.
