Very nice place! I went to see one of my favorite local bands play there, Sissy & Earl. They have a nice intimate set up for the musicians. Lots of great beer on tap, a nice wine selection and of course coffee . Comfy couches to sit on along the standard tables. There was even a little room off to the side of the stage area where a couple were able to dance :) Really worth a visit if you are in the area.
This is really the best cafe/study place/pub in Lawrence! Everything that you could possibly ask for (specially if youre a KU student) - you WILL find in this place! Great coffee, great music, great food with healthier alternatives, WiFi, quiet study areas, merch and lot more! Im in love with this place. I stay right behind it so for me its a complete bliss! How have I not reviewed this place yet? Vegan and vegetarian options that appeal to those who are not vegetarian as well. Every Saturday, there is live music, and some afternoons have wonderful local artists perform too. It is clean, open late, and the bathrooms are very well kept. Evan makes a wonderful hot chocolate. I love the open mics, and there is one specific to those who are 25 and under. This is a community space with inspiring art on the walls, and I am sad to leave it as I move to Arizona!
Very tasty food with a variety of vegan options. Its such a relief ordering off a menu that has over half the things on it being vegan. Plus the staff is very friendly and welcoming! They have tons of seating and collaborative so you can work while you enjoy a tasty meal. In my opinion their cold press is way better than Starbucks and Dunkin cold brew, so support local and get your coffee here!
Great vegan and vegetarian food. Id go there even as an omnivore. Coffee holds up too. Wonderful classic coffeehouse environment, before for meeting friends in the neighborhood.
Love this place. Neat little morning hangout and afternoon watering hole. Very Vegan menu, looked delicious. Coffee was excellent. Met some friend and had fun. Relaxing, try it sometime.
I’ve been here a few times, but have only tried their coffee - specifically their latte (which is nice and strong!). They’re a bit more expensive than some of the other coffee shops around, but I love the aesthetic. It’s a great place to sit and work for a while and unlike most coffee shops there is plenty of seating and the noise level usually isn’t too high that you have trouble hearing the person you’re with. I love that they have so many seating options — stools by the window, tables & chairs, & even a few couches and comfy chairs. Overall I’ve only had good experiences while here!
This is a great addition to the landscape of coffee shops in Lawrence! S&S has become probably one of my favorite places in Lawrence since this past Summer.The thinks I like the most about S&S are:1) Very spacious, lots of windows, high ceiling. It really gives space for the mind to breathe.2) The coffee is great. Theres an option for a bottomless house cup, which is ideal for people who like to work at coffee shops. They also have espresso, draft beer, and a menu card for brunch, lunch and dinner, although I have not had tasted any of the latter (but seems great).3) It opens until late at night (11 PM from Monday through Thursday, 12 AM from Friday through Saturday). This is great for late-night workers/readers.4) 80% of the time there is some sort of social event at S&S. Theres either people gathering in their meeting room on the back of the place, live music, people practicing their drawing skills, and I am sure there is plenty more stuff going on I am simply not aware. This gives a nice dynamic atmosphere for creative-like minds, or ideal for people who just want to relax!The only thing that could improve S&S in my opinion is if it opened on Sundays in addition. I would definitely go there every Sunday (and I am sure a lot of other people would too) if this was an option. Hopefully this could be considered for future developments!
This is a new sleek but comfortable coffee and beer bar. They have a limited menu of yummy healthy selections. Lots of areas to plug in ones electronics and a few cozy chair, sofas and coffee tables. It also has a private meeting room one can reserve. Nice selection of draft craft beers and very good coffee selections. On occasion they have live music on a small open stage area and keep local art on display.
These people are great. A while back I parked there in some ice and couldn’t figure out how to back out without scratching the car next to me. I went inside to ask some friends for help, and then an employee immediately asked me what was wrong, and then dropped what he was doing for probably a good hour to help me.This place also has great food, drinks, and vegan options.
This place is a wonderful place to study, and the coffee is terrific. Frankly, the prices are a bit steep, but i keep coming back because i keep hoping that itll be worth it.With that being said, absolutely none of the employees look like theyre happy to be working here. I dont know if thats a testament to management, or the employees themselves. But the attitudes are AWFUL. This is why i dont come more than once or twice a semester.Subpar customer service (if that). Seriously. If youre looking for great service, it may be best to look elsewhere.
This is my new favorite place in town! (Other than late night cookies at munchers..) Their chai tea latte is so good! And I was so happy to see they have lavender syrup. Plenty of beer on tap if youre looking for a quaint after work sip. While youre here, check out their menu and indulge! I cant wait to try everything on the menu and their other coffees. The tahini toast was a perfect snack!
During the day, quiet enough to enjoy conversation with friends over coffee or lunch. Our group tried various lunch options and all received a thumbs up. So glad to have this pleasant environment available during the day. We also enjoyed a lively evening of local music here. This locally owned business supports local nonprofits, too. All the more reason to support it with our patronage.
Their vegan biscuits and gravy are the bomb. I also recommend ordering a latte there. The hours are great, there is a large space for studying and the ambiance is perfect. It will be a place I will be returning to.
Open mic night is a blast. They have a good beer selection. And I am currently obsessed with their grilled cheese sandwich. Made with whole grain bread and cooked to perfection.
Great spot. Staff is great. Good coffee and a very chill environment. Students do come here but not many so it’s not rowdy with 20 year olds. Only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is because it’s really warm in there. I really wish they’d turn on the air more. Makes it very uncomfortable to do anything when you’re sweating. But other than that, great place!
Loved it. The owners are super personable!! Thats a winner for me. It has the feeling of hang out, stay awhile in a warm and friendly way. Family owned with live music, coffee and friends (even if you dont know anyone personally)!
4.5 stars..would give full 5 if had a better beer selection AND was open on Sunday. Push back on the distributors..dont need to see the usual Anheuser-Busch products at a cool place like this.
Check this out !! Very hip place. Stopped in for early am on way through Lawrence. Motown on the tunes. Good coffee good ambiance. Had what I expected was yogurt and granola. Pleasant surprise to get layered yogurt fruit and granola parfait! They do a bit extra. Shawn came over to chat about the place. It is big with a none the less intimate feel/look.
If youre looking for a nice place to hang out and enjoy your coffee with friends, no need to look elsewhere. This place is spacious, clean, bright. Great coffee and a good snack menu. They also have a nice beer selection. Highly recommend it.
My new favorite coffee shop in Lawrence! There is lots of space to study, the live music is great, and their food is all vegetarian. The bar is also very fun, I like how they stay open late. Worth the visit!
Amazing Vegan options!!Great place with a fun atmosphere. I have tried many of the Vegan options and they all are so good! My favorites being the artichoke dip which has tasty Vegan mozzarella and the Biscuits & Gravy!

This is defiantly one of the best coffee houses I have ever been to. It has a peaceful environment and the staff is super friendly. As a college student its my favorite place to come and study, while enjoying delicious coffee. Cheers to an amazing coffee house!

Maybe it was the time of day, but it was reallllly warm from the sun glare. That may actually make it appealing to others, but I was uncomfortably warm. (6/7pm)It was also hard to relax and enjoy the drink and atmosphere because this one employee kept pacing and pacing. As far as I could tell, he wasnt doing anything but glaring at me every time he walked by, which was practically every 15 seconds. I kept thinking, dude, find something to dust or clean or something. I finally left. I would have stayed, ordered another coffee, but that guy made me uncomfortable.

I came in the for the first time the other week. And it was an amazing experience. Cozy, nice ipa selection, and the coffee was amazing as well. The avacado toast was so delicious. And the prices are reasonable. Which is a breath of fresh air cause most things in Lawrence are over priced.Loved this place and cant wait to experience it at night.Also the place is just beautiful. It doesnt look like much on the outside, but inside...😍👌
Very large space with a lot of people studying. Nice ambiance. Unfortunately, it took waaaaay to long for the barista to make my latté (I sat and watched her. She puttered around in a lackluster manner before finally making my latte. Over 15 minutes, and there was not anyone else waiting). After the wait, the barista gave me the latté in an unfriendly manner - and the latté wasnt very good! Disappointing.
Very nice arts and music venue with craft beers and coffee. Prices are much more reasonable than similar places downtown.
Ive bee a barista for awhile now so naturally I like to hunt down good coffee when I come to visit my girlfriend, and out of every where Ive tried so far, this is easily the best coffee in Lawrence! Also great food too, very satisfying and doesnt make you feel sluggish.Alas the only complaint I have is the internet isnt good enough to play online minecraft, but thats alright considering youll spend most of the time really savoring their drinks.

S&S executes the anti-social environment of an untraveled pub with the repudiative attitude of a snobbish, bourgeois coffeehouse. A perfect place to go to be ignored by patrons & service staff. Decent beer selection. No bar service. Confusing business model but nonetheless popular for writers/tudents.

Waited 45 minutes for the wrong cup of coffee. Then another 15 and got the correct coffee. Was gonna go 1 star because I dont like waiting but added a star because it was good coffee.

Ordered Bruschetta. Asked for mozzarella, which was listed on the menu. They said it was 6 pieces. It came with feta, and was only 4 pieces (sorry, the mozzarella on the menu is a typo, it should say feta and sorry, our bread this time was extra big so only 4 pieces ). I ate it because I was was hungry and dont like to waste food, but seriously, feta on bruachbrus overwhelms all the other flavors, and most of all, tell me the truth when I order. Not impressed with the lack of basic service, so wont come again or recommend. Gave it two stars because the chai tea was pretty decent.
Live music, coffee, terrific service. Had an art show while whilewe were there. And though they were a little overwhelmed, the service was friendly and they still kept smiling.

Living in Lawrence, one of the things I missed most about my hometown of Edmonton, AB, was the coffeehouse community vibe -- where you could grab your work and spend an afternoon enjoying delicious caffeinated beverages, and follow it into an evening of live local music or a philosophical discussion with the neighbour or labmate who just happened to wander in. Shauns seems like its going to have that vibe, and Im only sad that I wont be in Lawrence in half a decade to see how this place has grown into a natural niche. This is the coffeehouse Ive been trying to find in Lawrence for nearly 7 years.The space is open, with a clean, homey-industrial feel (I know thats an oxymoron -- but trust me on this). Exposed, painted ductwork, good lighting (soft for the most part), and comfy seating. The wood tones throughout lend a natural elegance.Coffee-wise, Ive tried Loris Blend today, and its very nice; Im looking forward to trying the menu, and investigating espresso-based drinks. Service was prompt, friendly, and Shaun himself greeted me and made me feel instantly welcome here, including assuring me that this space is laptop/work-culture friendly. We had a great conversation about his vision for this space, and Im so excited to see how it progresses.So far, this is like coming home.

While my non-vegan boyfriend enjoyed his beer and food, both myself and my vegan friend were not able to get any food because everything had dairy. While some of the items could be ordered without cheese, that doesnt make it a vegan option. We did get coffee that was vegan, but that order was initially messed up and the bartenderer wasnt very friendly about that. If a place is advertising itself as vegan, there should be vegan options for everything.The service was also very slow even though there were only two other people there and two bartenders.We were really excited when we saw a new place advertised as vegan but were completely disappointed. If you arent vegan, maybe itd be more enjoyable.
