We had some weird stuff happen with our wipers while driving cross country and after being turned away from Honda dealerships, we were graciously received by this mechanic and had our issue fixed in a jiffy! Our mechanic was very nice and efficient and we so appreciate him taking the time to squeeze us in. 100/10.

I went here to get my transmission fluid changed and had previously called them the day before to ask for pricing. The price on the phone was completely different than what they told me when I got there the next day.After being talked to like I was stupid, I left and went to Nissan (I have a Sentra), and they charged way less. Super shady and if you are a female, I’d highly recommend somewhere else. Not professional at all.

LAD quoted us $940 to replace the starter on my car. Outrageous. I got another quote from another, very reputable, mechanic for $450. LAD then charged us $187 just to release my car. How is this place still in business? Shameful.Edit: They did not offer a less expensive option and they do not tell you they will still charge you if you decide to go somewhere else. $187 for simply hooking your car up to a machine is absurd, especially since we were 90% sure it was the starter going in. They also told me I have an oil leak, which I do not. There are far better mechanics in town, dont trust LAD.

Made my appointment online and they confirmed with me almost instantly. I showed up early and they were ready and waiting for me and knew who I was when I came in, which was awesome. During the service I voiced some concerns and they addressed them made me aware of possible needs my car have in the future. They were friendly and helpful. Not pushy which I appreciate because most car shops want to do an abundance of extra little nickel and dime things and LAD does NOT do this. Anthony was my mechanic (big lier) Long story short, please choose a different auto mechanic place. I am a broke college student and barely have money but I chose to invest over 1200$ dollars into this place just to have my car be more messed up than it already was. I took it here to get my car looked at because it was overheating every 10 mins after driving. Anthony (mechanic) checked it out and said it was the thermostat, water pump, and a flush. After I had that authorized to do he drove it down the road and said it was still overheating and the problem ended up being a blown head gasket or the whole engine. but after that he said that I could “drive it around town no problem and be fine but no highways at high speed or it will overheat” I drove it down the street to get home after paying 1200$ and didn’t even make it home! After I was told I could drive it around town for awhile at least but I couldn’t even make it 5 minutes home! Don’t waste your time here or money and your time to get lied to. I’m hurting after being hopeful paying that much to have my car hopefully working to get me around.

I am a student at KU and not from the area. My car was having issues with its starter and so I took it into Lawrence Automotive Diagnostics. They were so incredibly friendly and helpful. They quickly diagnosed the problem and fixed the starter, as well as a few other issues they found, in about a day. They were very flexible and easy to work with, and even stayed open a few minutes later so I could make it over there in time and pick up my car. Overall an excellent place to get car repairs done, and I will be returning here for my future car needs.

I just have to say that this morning I was lucky that the Midas down the street from LAD was so rude to me that I left fuming and searching for another place to go. After looking up local car mechanics and reading some reviews, I went to LAD. I explained what I thought my problem was and asked how long it would take to do an oil change and look into what I needed. They told me it would be a fairly quick process but they were about to go to lunch. Understandable. I went back at 1pm, they got my car right in and started working on it right away. The process was easy, quick, and painless. After checking everything out they came back in and explained what they had found out step-by-step which I totally appreciate because Im ignorant when it comes to cars and car care. They even brought in my cabin air filter to show me what it looked like (no this wasnt the problem) and quoted a price on replacing it (fairly cheap, in my opinion). They advised me on how often I should be getting my oil changed and why, once again something I appreciate because Im ignorant about cars and no one had explained any of this to me before. All of this took less than an hour. I left LAD happy, more knowledgeable about the car I have already been driving for 6 years, and more importantly I do not feel cheated at all! GO HERE!! :)

We have taken our two vehicles to Lawrence Automotive Diagnostics since we moved to Lawrence in 2014. They have done numerous jobs for us, ranging from oil changes to replacing an alternator, to fixing brakes, to R&Ring window regulators, wheel bearings/seals, engine mount, fuel feed line O-ring, radiator, door lock switch, per steering pump assembly, and more. I have two experiences with Lawrence Automotive . Both were very positive and gave them a 5 star rating.

While traveling back from a dog show, we broke down on I70 near Lawrence, KS It was 84 degrees, we were stuck on the side of the freeway with 4 dogs which could have been a disaster.....It was 3 PM of a Friday and we had another 5-6 hours to drive. After being towed to Lawrence Automotive Diagnostics (who took our vehicle as soon as we got there), they certainly stood up to their motto ‘we stand behind our work and WE CARE’. They quickly diagnosed the issue but had to get a part from Topeka. They put a fan on our dogs while in the vehicle (in service bay), drove us to a nearby restaurant while we waited and got our vehicle fixed before 5 PM. The staff were all friendly, professional and dog lovers ❤️ Thank you L.A. D. Inc for saving the day and getting us quickly back on the road again!

I have a Toyota Prius and not all shops want to work on them. On my most recent visit, LAD kept me informed, explained to me what my car needed, they were very polite, and I paid a fraction of what the dealership would charge. I highly recommend them.

I brought in my 87 pontiac fiero because of an idling issue. I had replaced all sensors, sending units, egr, spark plugs and brand new spark plug cables to no avail. He told me i was losing voltage in my dimmer switch to my dash (thats why they were dim) and my number 3 spark plug cable. That cant be right, there less than a year old, maybe the coils? He said maybe but ill bet the cable. In my stubbornness nah... i replaced the coils...nope. fine ill do what the expert said. Sure runs alot better now. The auto store sold me a bad cable. Oh and my dash is brighter now too!

The guys at LAD have always done first-class work on my vehicles. This last time was for a car that my grandson inherited that had been lacking service for many years. The guys went over the entire car, checking everything that needed to be done. We discussed the safety and reliability items and they took care of them . I took my car to them at least 3 times, one of which was pre-purchase inspection. They are fast. Weve been using LAD for almost 15 years. Ive never once had a bad experience. Modern cars and trucks are complicated pieces of machinery and repairs can get expensive fast. LAD has always given me the straight story on repairs and if something didnt work, they quickly took it back for another look. They are also fast, considering how many different models they specialize in. Finally, you get what you pay for, meaning, you are paying for their expertise, their track record, and their speed of service. They are NOT Jiffy Lube which gives you a crappy oil change and oversells services you dont need. They are a solid repair shop in the Lawrence community. Word to the folks leaving negative feedback. Danny is the nicest guy around so if you think youve had a bad experience, talk to him. He has always respected me and my wife.

EDITED [Original review below]: After having LAD take a look at my car, Ive spoken to several friends who are vastly more car savvy than I am and was advised that I could do most of the repairs my car needed on my own with a fairly small amount of knowledge and tinkering. So I read up on how to replace spark plugs and ignition coils in my car, and they were right; its really pretty simple and it cost FAR less to do it myself than it would have if Id taken my car in. All of that said, I understand the markups and labor costs incurred when you take your car into the shop. I get it; thats the business.HOWEVER, after learning how to do it myself, I also learned that the shop priced me for new spark plug boots in my vehicle. My vehicle doesnt even utilize spark plug boots. LAD could very easily see that it wouldnt even be a little hard to pull the wool over my eyes; until I took the time to look into it, I wouldnt have known any better.I will no longer be returning to these mechanics. Theyre nice people and the work they DID do on my car was satisfactory, if highly overpriced, but those things are the only qualities saving them from a one-star review.[OLD REVIEW] Ive taken my car in to LAD twice now; the first time was for an oil change per their monthly mail promo, and the second was to have my power steering pressure hose replaced. Both times Ive been very pleased with the service and with the condition that my car was returned in. Ive never felt pressured to authorize repairs that are not necessary to get the car going (which is good, since I just graduated college and have the bank account to prove it), and the service has been reasonably priced, completely in line with quotes Ive gotten from other techs.My favorite thing about the shop is how low-pressure the whole scenario is. Having to have a repair done on your car is stressful enough, so its really nice when the office environment is so relaxed. I believe Justin is the name of the guy that helped me both times, and each time he explained to me what needed to be done and then made suggestions and quotes for other repairs that he thought were necessary to keep the car running. Ill definitely be returning here to get those repairs, as I sorely need them and this is a business I trust to do the job right.

This is a good place for auto service. They have good technology and understand the complexity of todays cars, and the experience to repair older cars too. Along with the ability to repair your car, they recognize that a broken car can complicate your life and they do a good job of doing the little extra to help out their customers. They do a real good job of explaining what is wrong, how the repair is performed, and they hit their deadlines. On the rare instance a unexpected problem arises they call in inform customers immediately, explain the problem what is required to address the issue.

I have only heard good things from others about Lawrence Automotive Diagnostics. They fixed my car and did so professionally. However, their markup on parts is extremely high. The mechanic said it was best to use the factory parts--and I agree.My fuel pump costs $434 from the manufacturer. The MSRP is $482. The cost of the fuel pump on my receipt was $712. Thats a mark-up of around 50% (+$230 over MSRP or +$278/64% over my cost). Of course they need to markup the part for overhead, transportation, etc., but I thought there must be a mistake.When I talked with the mechanic, he said they needed to increase the cost to warranty the work for two years/24,000 miles (though the part is already warrantied for 1 year by the manufacturer). While I appreciate the warranty, the labor to put it in in the first place was far less than the markup. Im satisfied with the service, but it’s hard to trust a company that increases prices by 50% or more.

Stay away!!!! Our car broke down, so we took it to them as they were the closest shop and were looking to save money on a tow. They notified us that they were needing to replace the water pump, which is what we were thinking.Our car has the water pump in the middle of the engine, so we were expecting a little bit of a higher price. But they came back with a $2600 bill!! Everything we saw online was showing anywhere between $900 to $1200... So, a little overpriced, but whatever, it would have been more of an ordeal to go to another shop at this point. So, we approved the work as we didnt think we had another option.I spoke with someone who knows prices a bit better, and they were just flabbergasted by that amount.. But reluctantly we went forward. While talking with this individual, it was mentioned that we should have them look at replacing the timing chain and inspecting the thermostat as those are both right there and is good to have it replaced with it having 150K miles on it. LAD came back with an extra $1200 for just those two parts!! So now, were up to 4K for something that a second opinion can get it done for $1500!!!!They were nice enough on the phone, but thats when they thought they were getting a chunk of change out of us... After I told them to hold off on the work, I got I dont know what you want me to do... if we put it back together (enough to transport to another shop), it will be about 2/3 of the work, so might as well have us do all of the work. Both attitude and verbiage changed real quick... When we got there to pick it up, THEY HAD IT SITTING ON 2X4s... They didnt even do what they told me they were going to do!!!Then they ended up charging me $900 to walk away. If youre lucky enough to see this review before going, please go somewhere else that wont price gouge you.Edit: Alright, so now that Ive got another (trusted) mechanic to look at it. He informs there is metal in the engine so it appears something broke off and made its way through. Im now replacing the entire motor because it is shot. LAD should have seen this and recommended the same. But it appears they were going to replace the water pump and send me on my way with a wrecked engine.As an aside, I got my replacement engine from LKQ and they said they wont deal with LAD because of their reputation.SO PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!Im getting a new engine and the cost of labor to replace it cheaper than their quote to just replace the water pump...

I had my headlights cleaned along with my oil change this week. Danny did a great job. I was not able to see when driving at night because the outside of the headlights were so foggy looking and now they are clean and clear and looking like new again. It will certainly make driving at night a lot safer.

I will not be taking my vehicles here again... I was charged for an alignment at Lawrence Automotive Diagnostics only to find out by a different alignment shop that my truck was not/could not be properly aligned because 2 of the 4 adjuster cam bolts were seized (due to rust). After putting 500 miles on my new tires, there is noticeable uneven tire wear on the outside edge on both front tires. This could have been avoided if they would have been honest with me about not being able to complete a proper alignment. I will have a different shop install new lower control arms w/bushings & adjuster cams, so the truck can be properly aligned... 1 star because of the lack of honest communication I experienced.

Ive been going to Lawrence Automotive Diagnostic for years because they not only do good work for a reasonable price, they are excruciatingly honest. They once redid a $1000+ repair more than six months after the original work and didnt charge me a penny. I dont give my loyalty lightly; these guys have definitely earned it.

They do okay work in a nice facility but the price is not worth it. The problem is they are hands down the most expensive place in Lawrence to get work done. If you are in a rush and have to get it done they can do it but you will pay a premium. They are consistently 300-400 dollars more than my two regular mechanics for the same parts/work. If you can wait a few days for your regular mechanic who is booked wait...you will save a lot of money.

If youre a woman or a college-looking student, this place is a huge NOPE!I have had problems in the past after moving to Lawrence with mechanics/repair shops. It seems to me that the people that run these shops see this college aged woman needing help and probably thinking that it would be easy to get me to overpay on a small repair.So I took my car here two days ago after my car started shaking and the check engine light came on. I had a sneaking suspicion that it was a spark plug. So I called, made an appointment and told them I thought it was probably a spark plug. I took my car in, everyone was friendly, and told them to call me before they made any kind of repairs.The next day I called to check up on my car since they had not called me yet. They said that I needed a new spark plug, along with wires, and with a TON of other repairs. I specified that I wanted the bare minimum, knowing full well what they were doing. For just spark plug replacements they quoted me a price of $302!!!!! Are you kidding me?!So I had my Dad call other places (heaven forbid if they hear a woman on the phone) and get quotes for the same exact repair. I got quotes from $90 to $130.I picked up my car that same day and drove it back to my place. My dad changed all my spark plugs for less than $50 and also can replace the wires them to for way less.I cant help but feel violated over and over again by these repair shops trying to make an easy buck. Especially on the someone who is vulnerable and doesnt know much about cars.What makes me sick is that this is not the first time I had taken my car here. I had mindlessly had trusted them before and I cannot imagine how much I have overpaid. I will not be returning to this shop. If possible I will wait to have all repairs done back in my hometown, simply cannot trust these shops in Lawrence anymore.

They will call you with an estimate so you know what is wrong and how much it will be so there wont be any surprises when you pick up your car. If you have a problem and you dont have an appointment they will make every effort to try and fit you in. I highly recommend Danny and his staff!

Ive been using these guys for years and theyre always kind, courteous, and professional. Explain everything thats going on, and get approval before they complete any extra work than what the car was brought in for. Pricing is fair and Ive never felt ripped off.I will use these guys for as long as I remain in Lawrence, especially having used some of the less friendly competitors.

Headlight polishing was affordable and quick.Asked for a quote to replace the turn signal on my Ford F-150, and was told $450 parts+labor. I bought the part for $35, removed 5 screws with a YouTube video guide, and was done in less than 30 minutes.

I towed my car here for a diagnostic. They got back to me within the day despite me showing up late in the afternoon. Total diagnostic ran me 60 bucks and some change. I couldnt afford the repairs and they held onto my car until I could get it salvaged. Really helpful and friendly, especially since I was stressed

Very straight forward shop. Will not nickel and dime you with unnecessary repairs. If you have a problem they will tell you the cause and give you a time line that you can drive without doing and damage. Always great at the front desk and Danny is quite the character.

By far the worst service I ever received. Worried about the many issues that were going on with my car, the person helping me had a smug attitude. They charge just for looking at your car, my upfront costs for them to see what is wrong with my car $110. I had gone to this establishment and the experience was totally different. The mechanic was reassuring and i felt less anxiety about having the problem fixed. This time I felt judged and belittled. I am never coming back to this place.
