I love this place, but my past two experiences have been kinda strange. There are two guys that work here. One of them is super friendly and will take the time to answer questions/concerns. You can tell he genuinely wants to help people. Then there’s the other dude. He seems like he’s completely checked out and almost feels like any question you ask will annoy him. I’d compare him to Toby from The Office, but even Toby has some comedic relief from time to time. This guy is more like a DMV clerk. Great selection of gear though, and a 50/50 chance you’ll get great customer service.

Travis was extremely knowledgeable of the local trad climbs and gave me good recommendations on which route I should check out for my level of climbing. He most likely saved our group from having to climb in the dark as he was able to recommend a piece of gear that allowed us to top belay two people at the same time with ease. These people know their stuff and I will gladly shop here for their expertise, knowledge and convenience.

The guy that helped me was very knowledgeable of the products and the hiking/climbing in general. Not your typical sport store because finally there is an expert here that knows what he is talking about. He really didnt do any pressure in me buying anything and actually helped me in making the right choice explaining to me the differences between hiking/climbing in Nevada VS other places since I am new to the area

Friendly staff, very relaxed vibe and natural approach, not pushy. They helped me get set up with a good pair of climbing shoes. From a Vegas native viewpoint, go here! Support a local business! Looking forward to next time I need to come back.Edit: I was in and out fairly quickly and the only reason I havent given five stars just yet is that I havent gone here enough to give a more solid review!

I just called today June 9th, 2020 at 13:10 hrs, some one picked up the phone and hung up. I called back again, a male picked up the phone and said Desert Rock Sport, I gave him my name and asked for his, he hung up the phone for a second time. I called back again, this male picked it up, he said the name of the store with a bad attitude, like he is been bothered by the call. I asked for his name and made an upset expression over the phone; finally he said this is travis, I asked for his manager - he said he will be here at the end of the month, I asked for the managers name and he said, travis again and hung up the phone. Who ever answered the phone is the most unprofessional careless of this business agent. I never had a chance to ask my question. I am looking for Solomon hiking shoes. GOOD LUCK DESERT ROCK SPORTS with your customer service.

Great climbing store in Vegas. They also have a huge consignment section as well. Definitely worth checking out if in the Vegas area. They have pretty much any gear you might want to hit the crags in the nearby Red Rock Canyon. When we were there, there are a bunch of La Sportiva demo shoes and apparel at great discounts.

The staff were very helpful and friendly over the phone, verifying availability of specific shoe sizes and offering advice on alternative climbing destinations during a rainy period. The clothing selection was a little mixed, with many items available in only one or two sizes, but this might be due to our off-season visit in early January. Although I wasnt looking for gear the selection looked pretty complete and certainly better than the local REI that we also visited.

The employee was helpful and got me set up with my first climbing harness. They have a rope from the ceiling that lets you test how the sit feels. However, they have a swamp cooler instead of AC, so I quickly began sweating. Granted I sweat more than most, but it was uncomfortable in there. If that changed then Id easily give them 5★.

Decent selection for how small the location is. However, the customer service was pretty terrible. My boyfriend and I were in the store for over an hour, trying on different rock climbing shoes and harnesses. Not once did the sales associate ask us if we had any questions or how we were doing (we were literally the only ones in the small store). As new climbers, we could have used some help. I didn’t ask for guidance because there was serious bad energy from the moment we walked through the door. If REI had a better climbing section we would have gone there in a heartbeat.

I recently purchase a jacket from this store over ebay. It was shipped in a timely manner, and the size was great. The color of the jacket that i received was not as advertised though. The picture showed a tan color jacket, the jacket i received was more of a mustard color. I therefore returned the item. I was surprised that when I was processing the return, that I was asked for a 15% restocking fee. I paid $260.00 initially for the jacket and got only reimbursed $221.00 when I returned the item. Can you believe that? The restocking fee was part of the return policies, but I never saw that info when i purchased the item. A couple of emails back and forth with desertrocksports, and I still have not received a reimbursement for this ridiculous restocking fee. Ive never paid a restocking fee in my entire life. This is the first time. Very disappointed by the stores customer service.

I like to come here to support local businesses. REI is cool and all but this place has a better vibe and almost always has better prices especially with the locals discount (ask!) You can put your used clothes and gear on consignment and get store credit if people buy. I recently had $40 in store credit from selling a couple shirts I would never wear again. The blonde chick who works there is super nice.

After reading all the positive reviews this place has accrued, I was really disappointed when I visited. They sell mainly clothing. There is very little hardware (carabiners, quick links, bolting stuff, etc.) available. I went specifically because Desert Rocks website claims that they sell Imlay gear. I was hoping to pick up 200 of Canyonero or Canyon Fire. They had about 90 feet of Canyonero and even less Canyon Fire. The woman working there wasnt rude, but she wasnt very eager to help either. Youd be a lot better off ordering your gear online or just going to the nearby REI.
