Walked in excited and ready to get some comics. I’m not someone who goes to this store regularly, and judging by how the owner treated me, I think he knew I wasn’t a regular and therefore decided he didn’t want me there.I ended up being trapped in a 45-minute conversation with him where he essentially lectured me about how comic book shops make money. He said “collectors take comics seriously”, “we can’t make money just off of a person coming in now and then to pick up a book”, and that if I wanted a good deal on the particular comic I was looking for, I should have started collecting a year ago. It really felt like he was scolding me for being there and I was really uncomfortable.He took me into his back room — a massive collection of comics and toys — and bragged to me about how expensive those comics were going to be years down the road. I still have no clue why he brought me back there.After reading some of the other 1-star reviews on here, I can say they all seem pretty accurate. The other employees seem chill and friendly, and the actual shop is pretty cool. But I ended up leaving empty-handed because I really felt like the owner was trying to chase me out.Maybe this particular store is for the hard-core fans and collectors, I don’t know. But I think it’s strange that this store apparently utilizes gate-keeping tactics to keep out new fans.Either way, I think I’ll go comic shopping at other stores. I wish this one the best of luck.

Super awesome! I went in there as a beginner and not really knowing anything about comics and wanting to learn. The owner was super great he started from the basics and told me how they get the comics. And which companies produced what. I definitely know more now ! Would definitely recommend to anyone. They have such a huge variety! Even for kids :D

This is one of the best comic book stores on the westcoast. As someone who has been to 1000+ stores this is the one place you MUST GO TO. This is a old school store, comics everywhere. Not all priced just laid out for you to look at and buy. Steve is a Icon and is always about customer service. He is always explaining how to collect. Like the best LCS owners opionated. I really enjoy my trip there. In fact so much i forgot to take pictures. This is a must stop and highly recommended.

When we first arrived we were excited, it was a way cool set up. We found lots of cool books, and variants. The owner came up to us after a while and said we were “cherry picking his collection” He told us we had bad comic shop etiquette and yelled at us to get out! He was extremely rude. We were very respectful of both their prices and copies per person. It’s store not a private collection! He had hundreds of boxes of comics, with many, many multiples that I know had not been touched in months. Not sure what kind of business he is trying to run. He as talking to us about being respectful and having etiquette, yet we watched him buying a comic collection from a guy who had expensive books and we could over hear him not paying a fair price for the books. Sad to see such a cool comic book shop act so unprofessionally!

If you are going to choose to still require customers where a mask, you should supply them in the event they do not have one. Not send them away after driving across the city . Every store I’ve been in has masks ready and available except yours. You waste money on all the clutter in front of your store why not a box of masks .?

Now this is a comic book store!! Best store in Vegas. I visited two other stores and was very unimpressed. Neither one greeted me, asked me a question, not anything. One store just 2 guys sat in back playing vids.Now this gem was hidden, I was unsure. But its amazing!!! The Riddler (owner) now this guy loves comics!! He knows all. Great guy, I was green and he helped me right away gave me quick tips, and encourage me to come back and learn more. This guy is a comic guru!!

Old school Aladdins cave! Really loved this shop. Its crammed for of comics and ephemera going back decades. New comics are neatly presented and theres boxes of back issues. Every nook and cranny has something in it. Met Steven and Heather, both lovely and such experts in the area of comics.

Steven Riddle the owner has always been good to me for years and any of his regular customers. Hes taken care of my pull box for the last two. I trust him to know all key issues as well and its fun to talk shop with a old school gentleman who still checks in to see how Im doing in my personal life as well as my hobbying one. For serious comic fans, hes your best source in town and Ill greatly miss Velvet Underground when I move away from Las Vegas.

After spending hundreds of dollars on single Pokemon cards, this store owner kicked myself and two associates out who were trying to purchase comics. The store owner did not like that we brought unpriced books to the counter and once he grossly overpriced them we put back about 20% of the books. Not to mention the owner only accepts cash and refuses to give a receipt on the purchases that way he can avoid taxes. This store is the plague and should be avoided by any customers who want a pleasant experience. If you spend money at this store you are contributing to fraudulent activities and tax evasion.

Man This Place Is Awesome... 30 yrs of history in this place!!! I myself loved walking around the store just admiring the different statues and comics. It was like a walk down memory lane. I am going to start taking my kids and open their minds to reading comics like my brother and I did as kids... 💯🦸‍♀️

A great comic book store!

Wish there was a way to give Steven zero stars. After spending roughly 2k with him in 2018 and allowing our monthly pull (6 titles) to go unattended for 1 month due to business travel - he kicked me out of his store this afternoon like a common thief. Now, keep in mind I had been in the store for over an hour and had selected roughly $200 in comics and was prepared to buy a “cabinet” book as well. That’s when he started shaking uncontrollably and asked me “where do I get off” “burning my monthly pull & just walking in here like everything is *expletive* cool?!” I apologized for the fact that I missed a month and that I was out of town at a conference when he called me (once) and left a rude message - of course it’s not going to be a priority to call back a raving lunatic, so after several months of giving him a break I figured he’d be happy to see a paying customer. One thing I should add is that we never wanted a pull box from him in the first place & we only set up a few titles to appease him so he’d leave my wife and I alone to shop the titles in peace. His physical reaction was so absurd when you consider the books he was referring to were literally a dozen new comics ($1.35 cost of goods) at most, all popular titles - he actually said “What the hell am I supposed to do - just eat the loss on those books?!” I replied that of course he would just put them on the rack and sell them, Immortal Hulk 12 was a pretty popular title wasn’t it?” I did the only thing I could and apologized again and that I could clearly see he was very upset. As I was leaving he started cursing me to another customer. Sadly this was not our first indication that Steven May be dangerous. He was always lecherous around my wife and frequently made her feel uncomfortable which is the reason why she stopped going to his store. Reading the real reviews here, now, I feel both relieved and concerned that we are not the only couple to have experienced this. He has exhibited totally uncalled for hostile behavior and for that alone I will say without hesitation that his store is the worst one in Las Vegas. While this is only my personal opinion, after experiencing the single worst customer service exchange in my life, it is not exclusive & many friends in the comic community agree he needs help.

Stand e is the most knowledgeable about comics. He will always steer you in the right direction whether youre a collector or just like to read comics for fun!

This is a great comic book store, huge selection of current and older titles. They have this cool area with customer boxes, so you pick your favorite comics and they are put in your box every month when new titles are released. Then whenever youre free you come in and pick up all your titles from your box. Pretty cool if your a collector but dont have time to get to the shop all the time. Ill definitely be coming back to pick up some comics.

Had to edit and redo my review. I orginally gave this place 5 stars. I used to come here and get back issues. One Saturday I came in looking for a few things and asked Stevens assistant for help. When she couldnt find what I was asking for she would ask Steven. About the second or third time she asked him a question on my behalf he snapped and yelled at me. He told me I need to sit down with him and look at comic catalogs and hell tell me which ones are good and which ones to get.If the store was organized better maybe I wouldnt have to ask so many questions of where he could possibly have a certain back issue. Also wanted to cuss him out for yelling at me but I held my tongue. I will never visit this store again.

My husband has been coming to Velvet Underground for years. Steve is a wonderful guy. He has seen all of our kids grow up, become interested in comics themselves. He always has an extra minute to ask about the family, or engage with the kids. He carries a great numbers of comics and back issues, and frequently has artists there for signing events.

Owner was very knowledgeable even gave me some pointers on what to look for in a comic being a new collector and all had great deals on comics! Staff was awesome. Thank you a ton guys.

This place was exactly what I wanted out of a comic shop. I cool look to the store. Home made signage and cash only makes it real classic. There place even has a guy who whos read since the golden age. I loved it there.

Ive read through the rest of the reviews here and I agree with most of them. Steve is an odd character for sure. But thats what gives this shop all of its character.There is a record store playing in the back. A shop cat that hides in the back makes an appearance every once in a while. Lighting is dim and there are a few random plants throughout the shop.In other words, this shop is old school and quirky. This is not a place for people looking to do high-end business. This is not a place where the boss caters to you. Only cash is accepted, and the pull system is all organized into notebooks where you write your name down on a list.Steve takes his time. Just going in to buy whats in my pull box takes at least 15 minutes. But the service is fantastic. Like people say, Steve will give you free comics because he cares. He suggests new titles according to what you like and, like a stern grandfather, he will tell you what he thinks is in your best interest.But thats what makes this place fantastic. Be nice and patient, and it is more than worth it.

The best comic book store in Las Vegas and probably all of Nevada. The owner, Steve, is a walking encyclopedia when it comes to comics. He has been in the business for 25+ years and it is obvious that he loves comic books. He can tell you why a particular issue will be collectible. He can tell you about the artists and which comic series they have previously worked for. He educates those who wish to learn about the ordering process which helps customers like me to develop strategies for collecting a series or just individual issues. This store has back issues that no one else has, including CGC graded ones. It seems those who wish to sell prefer to come to him just like those who wish to buy. Last time I was there I bought quite a few comics and he gave me a discounted price (and trust me, these were issues that are not easy to find). I inadvertently left one of the issues behind after paying for them and Steve was kind enough to put it in my pull box for me with my name and the word paid on it so I could pick it up at my convenience. I have only been going to this store for a month or so but every time I have been there he offered me a really good deal or he just outright gave a comic to me, or a box, or bags. One of the best things I like about the store is that it does not allow customers to just paw over books and damage their condition. Some might find this inconvenient, but true comic book lovers and collectors appreciate this policy. Despite this policy, Steve is incredibly helpful. Some may complain that it takes a few extra minutes to get checked out, but when it is your turn to need assistance, you appreciate the lengths he goes to to get you what you want. I expect to be shopping at this store for a very long time to come.

I have been going to Velvet Underground comics for 16yrs and rank it as the best comic and collectible shop in this town. The selection of Silver Age and Modern Age comics as well as statues and collectibles this store offers is incredible. The owner, Steven Riddle is one of the friendliest and knowledgeable business owners I know and always greets his customers or ask first time visitors if they need assistance.If comics and collectibles with great service are what youre looking for, pay Velvet Underground comics a visit.

Ive read some of the other reviews here, and they all have some valid points. I dont let their experiences sway mine, bad or good. The owner, Steven, is a very nice and helpful guy from my experience. Its a very big shop, but not quite organized and the lighting isnt great. I was able to find a good selection of recent Image Comics that I needed. I wanted to look through some back issues, but there is no way you could really find anything with the lack of organization. Steven tried to help me as he walked around the shop with me and was nice, but when I asked about certain back issue boxes he told me he had them, but even he couldnt tell where they would be.I tried buying four copies of a book I thought would be a good investment that I could sell for profits in a year or so, but he told me I could only get two. I dont want to bad mouth the store too much since he was a nice guy, but if the shop was better organized and better lit, it has great potential. It is hard to find in the back of a little strip mall in a questionable neighborhood, but there is certainly a lot of inventory.

The owner is a total creep. He sales you what he wants to sell to you and is very rude, he makes you feel unwanted and he takes forever just to ring you up because hes talking to his friends. If you buy anything expensive he right away considers you one of his friends and he talks your ear off as hes giving you free comics and I guess thats the only positive thing about him. Dont bother asking for him to find any specific comic because he wont look for it, hell just point to one direction and say its around there.

This comic book shop is Awesome. I may live in Maine but I still get my comics from this store. He knows his stuff about the books and collectables he sells.

Steven is such a compassionate and understanding human, I was planning on buying a couple graphic novels only to find out they don’t take accept anything but cash. Steven (the owner) saw me putting everything away back to where it was displayed and felt really bad so he sold me everything for however much cash I did have in my wallet. I owe him one, though he says it was really no big deal but he’s the man and he’s definitely gained my girlfriend and I as new regular customers! He’s too kind to everyone and very proficient with what he sells. He’s the willy wonka of comics! Thanks Steven, I promise to show up prepared next time!

After more than 4 years and untold thousands of dollars spent, the owner of this store, Steven Riddle, decided he did not like my sense of humor and banned me from his shop. Now I respect his right to do so but his reaction is over the top and ridiculous.Steven has always been very very thin skinned and I have done my best not only to tread lightly around him but to respect his oddball mannerisms. In the end, it was pointless as the FIRST TIME he decided I was being disrespectful (in a very obviously joking manner I assure you) he waits until the next day to call me and inform me I am banned from his shop. He did not even have the courage to tell me to my face while I was standing there. He shook my hand and said he would see me later to my face.I find his treatment of a very long standing customer to be deplorable both on a personal level and on a business level. I truly wish Steve the best in the future but I cannot condone either his treatment of me or the obvious cowardice and inability to cope with the world around him. I hope he gets some therapy and sells his business to someone who is actually customer oriented.For those of you who still shop at this store and are happy, remember. I shopped there for 4 years. I was an unswerving loyal customer for all that time. I dont even know where another comic book store is at. He WILL do this to you at his slightest whim just as he did it to me. Thankfully, this saves me the $400 a month I was spending in there to do other and better things.

My name is Nate. Ive been going to velvet underground comics for almost a year now. Steven Riddle is a good man, I understand some of these peolpe writing reviews have bad experiences with him, but if your just friendly you have nothing to worry about. They also have new issues for comics, and I got the end of amazing spiderman there, too. like I said, Steven is a great man, it was my 12 birthday and I came in and he gave me a free action figure and comic book. Its not really organized, but still nice. The outside is pretty strange, not gonna judge. but its nice. Anyway its nice Comic store and I totally recommend!

I didnt even go inside because it looked like the kind of place a girl might not come out of in a good state. There might be very nice people working there, and they may have had exactly what I was looking for, but Ill never know because it looked so skeezy and scary and off-putting from the parking lot. I think Id want to be armed going in there for my own protection.

Cool setup, extremely amazing selection of back issues, and the younger staff were really friendly and helpful, but the owner was pushy and creepy. Young lady, sweetheart, darling, honey, etc and with the tone of voice youd use with a small child. Cash only was the perfect excuse to flee!

We visited here for the first time looking for some cool zombie figures to top my sons birthday cake, the owner Steve not only helped us find better than what we were looking for but was extremely kind to my 11 year kid, he even gave him a few extras for his cake and talked about his fav comics, well be returning there for all of my sons comic needs from now on, this is good business and good old Vegas customer service

The worst comic shop I have ever been to. Not much room to walk around, completely disorganized, could not tell you if or where a certain comic book was. I even was looking through comics in boxes and he told me they were not for sale..... Its a comic book store that is what you are supposed to do sell comics. His excuse was that they were not priced....pick up the price guide look them up and sell them to me. I would not recommend this store to anyone. I wish I could give it negative stars. Guy just has a store to hoard his stuff and sell you recent books. 4 thumbs down! Hate hate hate!

Been going there since I was 16 years old asked too be taken off 4 titles, Steve Riddler the owner forgot .This was the third time this has happened, he accused me of lying so I left and wont come back really sad but hope the best for him.
