Tried these for the first time and now we’re hooked! Delicious sweet and savory options. Not to mention excellent service from the owner. Perfect place to buy treats for yourself and the office. Will have to try their specialty coffee drinks next time as they all sounded unique and yummy.

This place is such a gem! Stopped in one morning and they had a busy morning so they had limited items left but that’s okay, it happens. I got one of everything that they had left and it did not disappoint! The coffee was also delicious, the owners are so nice and personable. If you’re in town you must come here, you won’t regret it!

I dont get to come out here too often. I called ahead of time to see if they were open but there was no message saying they were closed so I drove almost an hour to come out here and support only to find they are closed for the week. Very upset and sad as they are the only kolache place in all of Portland.

Grabbed my (iced) Vietnamese coffee to go! Its legit, slow-dripped, and amazing! Definitely the pick-me-up I needed ☺️ All the staff are so friendly and engaging, you just feel at home. Theres LOTS of outside seating and a dog water bowl if you want to sit and chill.

Pulled this up in the map bc we wanted a quick snack and coffee and always like to go local. Wow! Cute little place, great coffee, yummy kolaches (you must try!) and great customer service. Super friendly!

As a native Texan, I was practically raised on kolaches, and despite having eaten countless kolaches between Austin and Dallas (including the famous Czech Stop in West, TX), the kolaches made by the Texan-owned Happy Sparrow Cafe are my favorites. The “Texas Hot Link” and “Bacon Me Happy” are my wife’s and my favorite savory kolaches. They are truly delicious! On the sweet side, the “Nutella Bun” is to die for.

We came into your shop to be welcomed with such a wonderful smile and conversation. Were not from Lake Oswego but Ill definitely remember this experience and stop in when were in town. Coffee is amazing!

Personal service in a neighborhood setting.

I dont often review but I felt deeply compelled to after my visit today. Every time I come to Happy Sparrow the staff is remarkably friendly and makes me feel right at home. They are masters of the Kolache, a true art form! Today I tried a couple of their vegan Kolaches and to no surprise they were fantastic. Thanks for being such a beacon of light and inspiration in the community.

The couple that owns the happy sparrow are the nicest people in town there kolaches are definitely five stars next time Im back in town I will definitely come and get a bunch more of these so yummy. Its sad that people have posted bad reviews because of masks and this is a country of freedom and they should be able to run their business how they want to!

I am SO disappointed in Happy Sparrow. I have been a frequent customer and supporter for years - and today I could not even step inside. Upon approaching the door I saw that neither the customer NOR the owner were wearing masks. Not only is this against Oregons current OHA mandate, it is incredibly harmful to the vulnerable members of our community. I got back in my car and left immediately.Happy Sparrow, your community demands better from you. Follow the mandates, protect your neighbors.

Delicious kolaches, both sweet and savory options. Super fun and friendly owners who run a great cafe. They have your typical range of coffee options, but magically they also have legitimate Vietnamese coffee... which is arguably the best in the world

Bunch of us old fellas drove out here from NEP only to find it closed, at 10 AM on a Thursday. On door is sign saying open at that time on Thursdays. Not happy!

I stopped in to pick up coffee and unfortunately, neither the barista nor any of the cooks were wearing masks. Really disappointing. I would love to support this local business, but not if they don’t care enough about the safety of their customers to do something so simple.

Cutest little cafe run by the friendliest people with an impressive selection of beverages (matcha latte & Vietnamese coffee were delicious!) and an even more impressive selection of kolaches. Just make sure to get there early because the kolaches can go quickly! Can’t believe it’s taken me this long to stumble across them, I’ll definitely be back.

Like the pastries, drinks are okay, but they allow people without masks in so thats a shame.

It saddens me to see a “poor” review bc of someone not wearing a mask- This cafe is above and beyond, it is clean, the staff is friendly, the food is great. Judge for yourself and visit- I will definitely be back!

The coffee drinks here have been terrific. The kolaches are beautiful and seem popular. Id love it if yogurt or fruit, something less bready was available, but it wont stop me from dropping by regularly. Great venue, staff and always love the music playing!

If you haven’t had kolaches this place is a must! They used to be in downtown Portland but have moved down to a classic building in the Lake Grove area. Kolaches are sweet-ish dough with savory or sweet fillings that I first had in Houston TX

Kolaches were fantastic and the cinnamon honey latte was incredible.

Happy Sparrow’s kolaches exceed my expectations time and time again. Their kolaches are delicious, especially their poppyseed ones. My grandpa was Czech and I was spoiled growing up with kolaches from a small Czech bakery. They are hard to get right and wasn’t sure I’d ever be able to find another place that made them like that. It’s a bonus to have a savory option as well and the owners are some of the kindest people you will ever meet!

First time there, but it was so cute and is a great little spot to catch up with people. The Chai Tea Latte is a great choice. Great service and the lady that was behind that counter was super sweet.

Their tasty Kolaches are better than my lifetime favorite Char Sui Baos! The variety of ingredients and flavors makes going on a regular basis an easy decision. As a bonus, the service is super fast, staff friendly and the place is super clean.

You must try the kolaches. We had the breakfast one with egg and bacon. The dough is so very soft and flavorable. Truly a gifted baker.

We were travelling though Oregon looking for coffee and found this delightful little spot with four outdoor picnic tables in a neighborhood south of Portland. The staff was friendly and the coffee was superb. It was just a few blocks from the freeway and a nice change of pace.

Best Vietnamese coffee in a 30 mile radius. Kolaches are yummy and kept lively with rotating flavors. Beautiful souls and kid friendly. Love the mom and pop owners. Very happy they relocated out of Portland and into our neighborhood.

It really pains me to write this, because the food is so good! It’s the staff that’s the problem. And I don’t just mean mere rudeness. I mean one of the staff members actually finding me on social media and verbally attacking me, cursing me out. (Another staff member also caused me a lot of personal harm, the details of which I won’t get into.) I won’t be going back to this toxic environment, a place I used to recommend to others. I’d rather eat decent food made by decent people, than extraordinary food made by such destructive people. The drinks, also, are not good, and are overpriced.It’s a really cute location, and I love the color scheme and tiny layout. Fire the staff, hire good people the customers can trust and who handle their personal issues responsibly, improve the drinks, and you’ve got yourself a business that really sets itself apart. Until then, well, the world just doesn’t need any more toxicity.

We were wondering what to do on a damp dreary Saturday with our grandkids. We took them here to experience eating kolaches! The ambiance was great and there was so much to choose from, Nutella was our favorite. Lots of savory and sweet snacks! Parking was easy.

Yum! Randomly found this place on yelp after I got some blood work drawn up the road. Very kind staff, the place is super cute too! Next time Im bringing my girlfriends for a coffee date! the kolache I had was a yummy little snack, nicely made. This is definitely a place to come back to regularly!

I was running a series of stressful errands, and I stopped in here for a few minutes to recoup myself. The interior is spacious and warm, with artwork and wood features. I had a savory pastry, which was quite good, although it could have been a little hotter to more fully melt the cheese. Also ordered a cup of tea - really grateful that they had jasmine! I had a bite of my wifes sweet pastry which was very tasty. Customer service was excellent.

Delicious coffee, great atmosphere, yummy pastries. I was sad to learn that they close early in the afternoon though! Definitely a spot worth checking out for a coffee or study date.

Kolaches are so yummy. All sorts of savoury and sweet. Warm, freshly made taste. Lovely atmosphere from the ample daylight, to the comfy sofa, to the little touches in the decor. Really good coffee. Surely a jewel in the social crown of the local area. Fancy a coffee, or nibble of something different, or even just popping out, this has got to be the place. I love it. As a visitor this is what you have that its so special.

As a former Texan myself, I was thrilled to have these guys bring a Kolaches to the Portland area. The owners were friendly and nice with southern hospitality. The Kolaches were awesome. Will come again.

I have tried two savory and two of the sweet kolaches at Happy Sparrow. I would not return based on what I had.The service was fine but the customer does most of the work. You bus your own table, get your own coffee and order at the front etc. My rating us based on the food but I found it silly that the payment device suggests a tip of 15 to 20%.The really high ratings make me feel like I missed something but I wouldnt recommend it based on my experience.

In could not have been more satisfied with this place. Ive been living back in Oregon for 3 years after 10 in Texas, and I have been seriously missing Texan food. Happy Sparrow completely fulfilled those cravings. I will definitely be back again.

We are displaced Texan, and this place is legit. Kolaches are one of the things we truly miss about Texas, and we could not have been happier to find this joint. Go, stick these stuffed yeasty rolls in your face, be happy.

Such yummy kolaches. The bread is very light. I like the savory ones better than the sweet one. It tends to be very crowded from 8-10ish and after its much quieter.easy place to grab a bite instead of going to mcdonalds when in a rush to eat between activities. esp since the kids love it.

Just moved here from Texas. The only place in Portlands that Ive found with kolaches. They were good. A little pricey, but very good.

Happy sparrow serves up Kolaches, a delicious sweet, yeasty pastry with tasty breakfast fillings. My favorite is the Happy Bird Bun, with eggs and turkey sausage, but all of them are excellent. You’ve got to check them out, they will make your day.

The owners are some of the sweetest people ever. I used to live down the street and they were always so friendly. This was the first place Id ever tried kolaches and they have some really delicious flavors available, both sweet and savory. The Vietnamese coffee is really good if you have some extra time available, as it takes a while to make.

I only ordered a Jasmine peony green tea (around 11:30 this morning) but it was loose leaf and fantastic! Plus the woman at the counter was incredibly friendly and sweet. It was way too hot but thats better than like warm of course. Id definitely go back.

Oh happy sparrow, where have you been my whole life....Apparently right down the street! Always walked/drove by this place, but finally stopped in, and Im glad we did! My wife is addicted to the Milk Maid Tea Latte, their house coffee is french press, Bonus! The Kolaches are great, perfect to take and run. Very cozy and relaxed atmosphere; high chairs and kids toys, bonus, bonus. We feel dumb we didnt stop by sooner, our new neighborhood favorite cafe.

They bake Kolaches, soft sweet yeasty buns stuffed with sweet or savory ingredients and served warm. Delightful! I ordered two: a Nutella and a Texas Original with spicy sausage and diced jalapeños, plus a latte. Everything was delicious! AND there’s a peacock in the neighborhood that visits the cafe on occasion🦚.

A taste of home! Houston transplant has been coming here for a few years; delightful staff and location with a selection of gourmet kolaches that put the common styles back in Texas to shame. So many original recipes. Always call ahead though; they sell out of many flavors daily! :D
