For the most part, Ive had a good experience here. I purchased a sweet bike here about 3 years ago and its still in great condition and Im not easy on it. Labor may be pricey, but its comparable to other bike shops. Bikes are just expensive. In the past, I had encountered a few of the younger employees displayed unprofessionalism and one even torqued my seat stay to crazy tight and stripped it, which wasnt fun, but the managers and mechanics have always been helpful, accommodating, and kind. Bad reviews are usually made in anger over one small fraction of the action sports experience. I mean, we are all guilty of being impulsive with online grievances. I think its a great establishment. I recommend (when bikes are back in full stock) to find yourself a bike on sale. My bike was nearly 1000 less because it was last years model. A few years later, its still solid.
After visiting other bike shops, this was refreshing. The staff were friendly and provided excellent service. A first impression goes a long way for me, and the team was great. Sam was extremely patient in pulling several bikes out for test rides. He was attentive to my needs from the start, and ultimately sold me on a great fit! Thanks to Sam & the team for a great experience.
I am greatly impressed by Action Sports in Bakersfield because: (a) They have a tremendous amount of inventory providing your customer with more choices than any other bicycling store I have visited, and; (b) The staff I interacted with was knowledgeable and friendly. I called the store looking for a possible bike to purchase, knowing that supplies have become very limited due to the pandemic. The person who answered the phone kindly reviewed the inventory and discussed the options with me so that I could decide if I wanted to drive the 130 miles to take a look. He suggested that when I arrive, I speak with Curt who handles the road bikes. I drove out and met with Curt. He patiently answered my endless questions and listened to my various thought processes for one choice over another. We discussed the various options and compared sizes, groupsets and he check the inventory for multiple variations. All the while, he never became frustrated nor judgmental of my inexperience or indecision. He was more a knowledgeable coach than a salesperson, always calm and engaged. I quickly began to trust his judgement and began asking what would you choose? which is out of character for me but it has been 30 years since I purchased a road bike. After choosing the Specialized Roubaix Expert, he continued to coach me through choices of shoes and peddles and adjusted the bike to fit me. Even during the fitting, after spending a couple hours with me (!), he was still patient and willing to discuss best options to the very end. The end included showing me how to remove and replace the front wheel with disk brakes for transport in my car... and he put it in my car for me. Wow. I could not have had a better experience. Thank you Curt! I love my new bike.

I bought my first bike from Kerry over 20 years ago. Since then, I have bought a second bike and have changed the implements many times. I think I am on my 3rd set of wheels. Kerry is extremely honest and so knowledgeable. I wanted to buy another bike and he refused to let me do it. Instead, I spend less and changed the wheels on my bike. He told me and my brother that we dont need new bikes even tough we both were ready to buy new bikes again. That is how honest he is and it is probably the reason he has done so well. If you want to start riding, just go in and talk to Kerry. He will set you up right and he will not oversell to you. Every time my brother and I need something related to our riding, we just go in and talk to Kerry.
Fantastic place to buy bikes and receive lifetime tuneups, which is actually priceless. Bikes are same price anywhere you go. Why not receive great service as well? Ive been going there for 20 years, and my bikes have as well.
I often have a negative experience with bike shops, but action sports was the notable exception. I felt incredibly cared for (3 people helped me through the purchase and fitting process) and everyone was incredibly respectful and knowledgeable. In particular, Gio and Sam helped me out tremendously, giving me information about burning in my new disc brakes, getting me set up correctly in terms of height of the seat post and positioning of the seat and giving me tons of information for continuing to tweak the bike once I got home and got riding. Gio even helped me make sure the bike got safely onto my cars bike rack, grabbing a wrench to ensure that my rack was secure and not wobbly. My only regret is that I do not live closer to this shop! Beware of being up charged at the register! Second time this has happened to me, but this time I called them out on it. They tried to charge $15 for a tube that had $9.99 listed on the box. Cashier proceeded to black out the price listed on the box and used that as an excuse for why she up charged it at the register when I asked about it.Please be cautious when shopping here.

Had to buy a shoe insert as my feet had been in pain. I received a great salesperson who was knowledgeable about the shoe inserts. They worked great!
So a friend told me about this place a few weeks ago. I bought a GT aggressor last year and biked some and the past month really started enjoying it. I went and a young gentleman Colin I believe his name was helped me out a ton and didnt go all salesman on me. I found a bike and got a great deal. Then the owner Kerry came out and sized me with the bike and made some recommendations. I told him get me everything I need. I got shoes, shorts, helmet, repair kit, lights....you name it I got it. Kerry walked me through every little detail on everything from the shoes to the lights. The man really cares about the safety of his customers. He didnt over sell me on anything I didnt need and wasnt pushy, but gave honest, good advice. He adjusting my seat ankles and broke everything down for me biomechanically. I am a personal trainer and have-not biked much but everything he said I picked up on quick. He is full of knowledge on how to properly ride a bike. Yes, there is proper form and what a difference it makes. Colin and another gentleman helped me carry everything to my truck and load up. The entire customer service staff was honestly very nice and friendly and it was just a great environment. I drove 90 minutes each way and I will always take my business here as I become a more seasoned rider. This is one of the best, if not the best customer service I have had in my 35 years. I also never give reviews unless the customer service was that good.

What a disappointment! We drove over an hour to get here from Tulare and it was “closed until further notice”. Nothing was noted that it was closed on Instagram or FB. Also, the pics made it look bigger than it is. It’s just this little corner inside a sporting goods store (Action Sports). If you want to go rock climbing your going to have to go to LA for a real gym. Avoid this place! What a joke!!! Mgmt sucks also. Asked to speak with a mgr and she was “busy” so left my name and number and never received a call back. No way in hell I would ever buy anything from these people!

It is refreshing to see such a professional business, in these modern times.I went into Action Sports looking for a bike, due to the fact that Im a runner whose hip was beginning to hurt. Leon met me at the door and listened to my problem, followed by showing me exactly what I needed. They set me up with a Trek Verve 2, and I couldnt be happier.Not only does Action Sports have you test ride their bicycles, they monitor your riding style in order to set you up with the perfectly sized bike. Before you purchase, they fully service your bike in order to ensure youre walking out the door with a quality product.In closing, if youre thinking about getting a bike, dont waste your time (or money) anywhere else. Go to Action Sports, and they will make a difference in your life. I enjoy riding my new bike so much, that I feel like Im a kid again. I traveled from Vegas to purchase a Stumpjumper from here. I’ve never experienced such good customer service from a bike shop. They took time to teach me how to adjust my suspension and fitted the bike to my size/weight. I’ve had similar services from other shops but Action Sports is on another level of customer service and attention to detail. I would highly recommend getting a bike from these guys, even if you’re traveling from out of state!

The service at this bike shop is exceptional. I drove out here from LA (2 hr drive) to purchase a specific model that this location had in stock, and the staff here was so helpful and accommodating. Special shoutout to Curt--he is an extremely knowledgeable and courteous staff member, and helped me understand all parts of my bike.Curt also didnt try to upsell me on anything else, which I really appreciated. He showed me other gear they had, but didnt pressure me in any way to buy anything else, besides the bike I came to pick up. He also made himself personally available via phone, should I have any questions about my purchase.Curt and another employee, Gerald, also helped me load my two bikes into my car, a process which took about 30 minutes, but which I knew was completely optional for them. They really went out of their way to make sure I had a good experience.As a new rider, I was somewhat nervous about buying my first bike, but Curt really made the process so easy, and his enthusiasm about riding has definitely influenced me! I recently asked if Action offered curbside service. Sales agent told me that my arms are long but my torso is short, therefore I could not ride neither a large or extra-large bicycle leaving me with no options. Total BS. Then, he said he had to take care of something and would be back in five minutes. I waited. He never returned. Another tried to pressure me into a bike twice my budget.These guys are hucksters whod make a scamming used car salesman blush. Not trustworthy.
Everyone was super helpful and friendly even though I am new to biking. I got tips and even though I was sure exactly what I needed, they were able to understand from my descriptions. It was amazing and felt like I wasnt being intimidated by people more involved in the sporting scene than my casual participation.

Service was so great I came back to buy a third bike this month. Already bought one for my son and myself when I was browsing the Trek website and saw the bike my daughter liked was in stock. Text Chad to confirm and he already had the tires filled with slime by the time I showed up. I’ll definitely return for a bike for my wife in the future. A family that rides together stays together.
I did not have a good experience. I went in with my wife and we felt like we were being watched like if we were going to steal. I felt uncomfortable and I didnt even buy anything. I went in for a pair of gloves possibly a couple of bikes but I did not feel very welcome. My wife works in customer service and we did not feel like we had good customer service at all. I am very unhappy and I will not be back in this store again.

Disappointed!.. I bought a trek fuel ex5 bike last month (May 9,2021). After a couple of rides the wheel broke (disaligned) so I brought it back to the store last May 28, 2021 for them to get fixed but until now it was not done… Its already been 3wks..

I wanted to give a special shoutout to Curtis.I didnt know anything about Cycling, the closest thing to cycling was riding my K-Mart bike when I was a kid. Had no clue with regards to the gears/shifts/breaks/positioning and generally how to take care of your bike.I was treated well, and was guided throughout the entire process. I wasnt pressured to purchase any bike, and was given the time to come to my own conclusion.Its refreshing to be treated with respect. Ultimately was the best retail experience Ive ever had in my life.

The customer service you provide, is nothing less than stellar. I had a wonderful experience and will continue to purchase what I need from this store. Logan did a great job answering any questions I had and walked me through the entire process. Sam was great, he helped me set my seat height and showed me how to ride the bike properly. He was also nice enough to walk me to my car with all my equipment. I did a lot of research online before coming in, on what I would need being new to cycling. Sam and Logan recommended everything I needed and nothing more. They didnt push me into anything that wasnt necessary and only suggested what I might want to get in the future. In the future when I want more equipment, I will be returning to Action Sports.

Action Sports took care of fixing one bike (which Finishline Stockdale didn’t fix properly after charging me for the service and keeping the bike for 3 weeks) and Action Sports assembled a second bike as well. They were definitely pricey, but fast (same day service) and got the job done. The rep. was helpful and loaded the bikes in the car for us. I will be recommending Action Sports moving forward 😊😊

I was making a large purchase and am prone to buyers remorse. Jerry was UNBELIEVABLY patient with me and answered every question thoroughly and encouraged me to take my time and not feel rushed. The staff was friendly and helpful. They walked me through several options for road bikes. I ended up choosing a gravel bike, and Sam made sure the seat and handlebars were set so that I would be comfortable while riding. I left feeling confident that I made the right choice, and Im loving my new ride.

I paid almost $25 for a flat repair on my sons bike about 3 months ago and brought it back and left it in the garage. No one had used it since. When he took it out last week, it was flat and I tried to put air in but was leaking out from the base of the valve. The valve didnt look right as it looked kind of sunk in. I took the bike back to Action Sports yesterday and explained the situation. The young man at the counter immediately suggested replacing the tube and I had to repeat several times that I had a new tube put in and has not been used since. I was thinking they just need to adjust the valve or a simple fix. After 20 minutes, the technician brought it out and handed it to me. I asked him what the problem was and he said Oh I dont know, I just went and changed out the tube and put in sealant. I told him it was a new tube and hasnt been touched since but he was confused as to why it happened. But then, the young man at the counter handed me a bill for another $24.60. I questioned the cashier and he simply said you just need to stay out of the potholes.I am down $50 for a flat repair on a kids bike. Needless to say I will NEVER use this shop again for anything!

I have to say I was blown away at the level of service and professionalism at action sports.If your like me it’s been impossible to find a bike during the pandemic so I was pretty excited when I found one only 150 miles from my house. I live in Orange County so the drive to Bakersfield is quite a “trek”!From the moment my family and I entered we experienced amazing service and a friendly attitude which is so lacking today at most stores. Kudos to the ownership and management for training your employees and instilling a positive work culture.The initial gentleman to help me out had the no problem attitude which was great. I asked for a kick stand and bottle cage and he said he would have someone install it. A little while later he had a tech come out to help size me on the bike.Sorry I’m horrible with names but the tech was awesome too. He fielded all my mundane and simplistic questions and I never felt “stupid”. I haven’t purchased a bike in over 20 years and that was probably from big 5 so nothing like the refined machinery I was going to ride now. He also spent the time to educate me on other aspects of the bike and riding in general.Had a hiccup at check out but the employees worked extremely well together and with a positive attitude. After paying for the bike I informed the young lady I still needed to pay for the kick stand and bottle cage so someone ran up from the back with the UPC codes and I was able to finalize my transaction.My only regret is that I live so far from Bakersfield because action sports is a world class bike shop!I have already recommended it to a buddy who sometimes is out that way.Beyond completely satisfied!Action sports is a model in how to run a business especially in these challenging and frustrating times.Wish I could give them 6 stars.Try them out I promise you won’t regret it!Hey I drove over 300 miles round trip so there is no excuse. My go-to shop for bikes, accessories, tuneups and parts. Everyone I have encountered here has been knowledgeable, thorough and friendly. Their bike stock is massive and you can definitely find something that suits you. They dont feel like theyre just out for a sale, but rather out to make sure you find exactly what you need or want. I have never left this place unsatisfied.

There is no other place to purchase bikes in town- its Action Sports. I have know Kerry for over 45 years and have bought several bikes from him. His knowledge of bikes, parts and service are the best. His shop has everything. Friendly staff that have been with him for years. And if they do leave they are leaving for jobs outside the bike industry. If not they seem to migrate back to Action Sports. I highly recommend Action Sports as the place to shop for bikes, parts, or anything else you need.
I went to Action Sport on a recommendation from another bike shop, I was a bit apprehensive at first thinking this store more so catered to a higher end clientele. I was wrong. The guys in this shop were attentive to the concerns I had about my bike. They listened and discussed my options. I needed a stronger wheel to support me as I am a larger person. With my bike being my primary method of transportation they got me taken care of as quickly as possible which was great! I highly recommend this shop for the service and enormous selection. Action Sports has always been my parents first choice when it comes to anything bike related. That inspiration led me to make action sports my preferred place to purchase my new bike and accessories. Now lets be clear, the bikes Action Sports carries have some fluctuations in price but generally are more geared towards people who want to purchase a bike that will last them a long time and with that comes at a far steeper cost than chain stores selling cheap bikes. As the old saying goes you get what you pay for. I love the level of service provided by the staff at Action Sports as well. Almost everyone there is super knowledgable and experienced including their Board section as well, be it snowboarding/skiing or even skating. so if you want to see a wide selection from top brands in the industry Action Sports is a great place that can meet or exceed your needs. Ive been going to Action Sports with my dad since they were at their old smaller location on Coffee road that used to have massive salt water aquariums with all sorts of super neat fish which I do miss at the new location. The new location also has a rock climbing area that I have yet to try but my rock climbing family has said great things about it.

Everyone is super friendly and attentive, but I want to give a big fat shoutout to the climbing guys because they rock! Im a single, stay-at-home mom with no social life and very few friends to do activities with. The four of them are so encouraging, friendly, and all-around supportive that I can say with certainty, I would not go this regularly or improve as much as I have without them. Action Sports has always been a cool place with cool people working there, but I LOVE the rock gym way more than ever. They do more than just work there. Ive cried to them before about personal life stuff, and Im sure its kinda awkward for them because theyre young guys, but they totally manage to care and make me feel better. I watch them with the kids and other customers also, and I love how sweet they are to everyone. And of course, they know what theyre doing and give great advice any time I ask, or even if I dont ask. I bake stuff and give it to them to show my appreciation because theyre so rad beyond what Im saying here. Kerry, you did a fantastic job hiring these guys!

Hands down a great shop. The entire staff went out of their way to help me, going well above and beyond any expected customer service. Ultra friendly and experts in their trade. Never tried to upscale me and were always honest.
Everyone here is great and helpful! Back in October, I came in on a stop from my ride SF to Ft. Hood TX. I left SF not properly equipped and these guys hooked me up.The crew looked over my bike.Kerry gave me great recommendations. He fitted me for a new seat. selected shoes (on sale!) and clips. He also recommended some protein powder and gave me some samples...... I havent gotten the chance to thank him - So I hope you are reading this. The powder definitely boosted my energy for the day. What was it? I know you said it was your special blend of the various flavors but I dont remember which brand.BTW. the ride was great. I made it to see my family in Fort hood and then back to SFO (car) before Thanksgiving.
I have been going to Action Sports for years. Great knowledgeable staff, competitive pricing. Years ago I would participate in the spin classes. If you want a good workout, give it a try.
My GF and I found this place trying to find a bike. We live about 2 hours away and they had what we were looking for in stock. The staff was great and friendly! Smiles and very polite. I believe the owner waa the one getting my GF fitted on her first road bike. Great guy and gave us a lot of tips! He was very friendly and genuine. Ive been to other bike shops but this one stood out because of how much they take care you of when fitting you for your bike to suggestions and tips on gear! I would not mind driving out here just because of how great the customer service is! Keep up the great work Action Sports!
I have bought several bikes from Action Sports, going back many years. I have always been satisfied with my purchase and the extra attention to details is always appreciated. There is a lot of bicycles and accessories to choose from, and if they dont have it, they will order it. My latest bicycle purchase had to be ordered from Trek, but only because they were not yet available. They got it in and ready for me pretty fast, and Im one happy camper. I have to say Bakersfield is lucky to have this first class bicycle shop in our town.
All ima say is they know what an actual deal is👴🏾🕶🤏🏾
