Super helpful staff, good quality foods but expect to pay more compared to jewel or marianos

Sunset has had to make adjustments with the opening of Marianos and Heinens in the last few years. Service levels have had to be pulled back slightly (no one racing to help you unload your cart at checkout) but still better service than Marianos and about the same as Heinens. A much needed remolding a few years ago has made it a pleasant place to shop. Their prepared food section is excellent. The rack of lamb when they have it is delicious. Staff are friendly and attentive.

I still visit Sunset anytime Im in town. I especially like the deli lemon Parmesan tilapia, Lobster muffins, butternut squash risotto, etc. In fact I love this place so much I drove an hour and a half to pick up catering for a fancy Christmas dinner last year.

Ive always had a good experience here. Grocery options are more than adequate and I feel that prices arent as high as other high end grocers yet are comparable to stores like Jewel. Sunset has a liquor store as well which made grocery shopping convenient. The cashier also gave me a recipe for a honey liqueur I bought that I never thought of.

Clean, well organized, nice food selection. Boars Head products are sold here.

There are so many things to see at this store! I got an almond croissant and a chocolate one. I also got some ham salad. A very unique store.

These guys are beyond incredible, I shop for my different clients here and today I was on a time crunch so I asked the client to stay in the car, I ran in and ripped the shopping list in half and asked a lady that works there to find the items listed and meet me at the checkout. 5 minutes in and out with a 12 item list. Having grown up shopping at Sunset in Lake Forest with my family since the 1970’s. One thing has never changed. The Sunset staff is a family and they always get to know you and greet you and your family by name. It’s like the “Cheers” of grocery stores. You wanna shop where everybody know your name. Shop Libertyville and stop at the grill for a snack or try a new wine or micro brew while you shop. It doesn’t get any better than this!

Wonderful staff beautiful flowers from around the world. Very creative designers and can provide flowers for every occasion especially weddings love this place

I love this store! It is huge and they have a large variety of everything at a lower cost than other places. The food is fresh. Its kept clean and the lines move quickly. The best among the rest!!!

Local chain with first rate seafood, hot line, bakery and produce. Clean and well stocked. Staff is helpful and friendly. Nice liquor and wine selection. Some gourmet gems. Catering for party or holiday small eats is superior. Fresh made deli items and grab and go eats and soups are delicious and convenient.

There are so many foods to choose from here and the prices arent awful. It is your one stop shop for groceries which is great. Employees are also kind and courteous. Highly recommended.

Always a fan in the past. Great meat, seafood and produce, terrific staff too. However, yesterday I stopped by about 5 pm to grab something for a quick dinner and was very disappointed.I picked up a half chicken that was hickory smoked, and some bbq ribs. The chicken was over smoked. It was tender, but too much smoke totally covered the chicken flavor. The ribs spice blend had way too much salt and the ribs were dry. Needless to say I had to make something else.I like trying new food products from time to time, but at Sunset I think I will stick to the old reliables.

This is a fine grocery store. Prices are reasonable, produce is good quality and well laid out. Friendly staff. They have a good selection overall and an impressive gluten free section!

Beautiful store, great variety. Really outrageous prices on certain items. For example. fresh bakery . the donut with chocolate on the left is 150% more than the donut on the right. Just a note to look for pricing before heading to pay.

Loved this market because it is like my kitchen, a hybrid between natural and healthy and all the regular stuff. They realize that sometimes you want organic and sometimes you just need a bag of chips. I also loved the feeling that this is a store owned by people, not a corporation, and that they stock their shelves with the things they think will interest their customers.

I came in unknowingly at what I now assume was 5 minutes to closing (9pm), lights and music were on, just a couple customers shopping, employees walking around, etc. I had no idea they were about to close.I shopped around and went to check out at about 5 after 9pm and theyd shut down all the registers and no one was in sight. Thats fine but not knowing they were closing an intercom notice, or turning the music off couldve let me know to hurry up or leave.I found one employee near the registers and asked where I should check out. He looked at me and walked away. I walked the other way and looked around the corner and saw the store manager counting money. I walked over and politely asked her how I should check out and she also plain out ignored me, like I wasnt even there.I stood and waited another minute. Thinking she would address me after counting the money but nothing.At this point I just put my two items down and walked out. Wait.. nope, the door was locked. I paused and looked around. Still no one responding. So I just unlocked it and the next door myself and left.The best part is that as I looked back inside when going to my car (the front is all windows) I could see both employees who ignored me laughing with each other as the first guy was already locking the doors I had reopened.The place was dirty and garbage anyways with limited selection.MARIANOS is right down the street and is much better. Go there.

This is my favorite grocery store in Highland Park and Lake Forest. I always find things here that I cant find at other stores. They also have the most amazing Bakery and Deli. I can always find noodle kugel here

How do people not understand what one way aisles mean?

Best grocery store! Theyve updated the refrigeration sections. I can always get things there that I cant find elsewhere. I live 15 miles away and make weekly trips to get special things I want.

Sunset foods has always been a pleasant place to shop at for me. The staff is very friendly. Let me tell you yes you can find groceries anywhere no a days but youll never find a Meat Department as good as Sunset Foods. I live about 35 minutes away and anytime I crave a mean Ribeye or any other kind of meat I will always go there. They cut the fat if i ask them to or slice it in half, very friendly. I am a very picky customer and they have never treated me with attitude.

They have great food here, although some of the prices are rather high. The best store I visited was in Northbrook, the one in Lake Forest is rather snobby and not nearly as big as Northbrook.

I shop there almost daily! The staff is extremely friendly and they are willing to get in specialty items upon request. My go to grocery store and best of all I can drive up and pick up my groceries when shopping with my son.

I forgot my credit card once, and instead of treating me like an inconvenience, they put my groceries in a cooler until I came back. The manager even came out to tell me that it happens all the time. Sunset’s staff always stands at the end of the aisles to help unload your cart or answer your questions. Grocery pickup is a nice perk, too. Their deli section is so fresh (shout-out to Sunset’s tuna!)...and now I’m hungry. P.S. If something (liquor, specialty food) isn’t in stock, they’ll friggin order it for you and sometimes even keep it in stock.

The service at this store is second to none! I challenge you to try to be second in line at a till, it does not happen. Service with a smile and an engaged manager who is always there with a smile.

I didnt actually visit the store, I am out of state, however I needed a fruit basket with ripe fresh organic fruit and other goodies delivered to my cousin who just had a baby and was in the Hospital close by. The gentleman in produce with whom I spoke was so helpful and listened to everything I wanted. He included crackers, chocolate and cheese, and even a stuffed doggie and balloons. Two were yellow just as I had requested and the third was a Mylar its a girl balloon that was just the perfect touch. The basket was huge and perfectly arranged and balanced with no fillers. And I was so impressed that it was put together and delivered in less than an hour and a half!It took me hours the evening before on the internet and then all morning calling around to find an establishment who could do it right away and with beautiful ripe fresh fruit, but I could tell from the photos that it was well worth the effort.Thank you so much!

The updates they made are great, although im not sure why i had to help pay for them??? I bought a regular sprinkle doughnut today, for $2.06! I was a bit floored when she said it, but i bought the treat anyway, hunger... Great sevice, but the price increase on the goods, see ya!
