I purchased 4 basic, low-end windows from this company for a 320sf cabin I built. I installed the windows myself. I paid the price in full up front as they were only a few windows. Paid with a good check. The sales person / employee at the Knoxville location signed off on the papers / receipts and wrote “PAID IN FULL” on the receipt and signed it. Windows came in 6 weeks later (they never called me—I had to call them to see when they were arriving, etc.). So the windows come in and I go pick them up and they see where I’ve already paid in full and they sign off and help me load them into my truck. Well, a couple of weeks go by and I get a bill in the mail. They said I owe them a special fee of almost $1,000.00 which was not discussed beforehand. The total cost of the windows was $1,990.00. The TOTAL cost. It even has a breakdown price for each window (4) and it adds up to around $1,900. And I paid it in full. Now they want me to pay around $3,000 total?!?! I called them and spoke with the secretary and she said they’ll look into it. Never heard back so I figured it was just a mistake or whatnot. Just checked my mailbox and they’ve sent another scam bill with interest due on it! The windows are poor quality, too. Give me a break people. Would NOT recommend! You’ll have better luck throwing your money and time out the window and get better results.

Hiwassee Window and Door is severely lacking in customer service and quality of product. They are also more expensive than other companies that sell Manchester windows. The only reason we went with them is because our contractor recommended them.Initially, our sales rep was great. He answered all my questions and concerns and always returned calls immediately. But once we placed our order, they went months without providing us any updates. We tried getting ahold of our rep by text, calls, and emails, but he would never respond. On one occasion, after he declined to answer my call, I immediately called him from a different number and he picked up right away! He was clearly screening his calls.Four months went by and we still had no windows. When the windows did finally arrive, there were several missing. The missing windows showed up 2 weeks later. In addition to the windows, we also ordered 2 exterior doors, which didnt show up until 7 months later. When the doors arrived, our contractor noticed that they were warped and would not seal. In these pictures, you can see how badly they’re warped when an 8ft level is placed against them. We also had to add insulation to the frame to try to get a better seal. When the doors first arrived, our contractor called our sales rep and had him come look at the doors. After that inspection, our contractor told us that Hiwassee would replace the doors. However, months went by with no updates. Despite our contractor following up with Hiwassee, they could not get a straight answer about when the doors would arrive. Meanwhile, wasps and other bugs find their way into our house through the gaps and our heating and AC just escapes. When I talked to the manager about our complaints, he was sympathetic, but offered no compensation. He explained the battle he had with the door company, which was out of state. He gave us the option of waiting for replacement doors or pulling the existing doors off and placing weight on them to see if they would straighten. We decided to wait for the replacement doors. A month went by with no updates about when the new doors would arrive. We contacted the manager again, who told us they doors wouldn’t arrive for another nine weeks! After ten weeks, the doors still hadn’t arrived, nor had we gotten any updates. We attempted to contact the manager several times, but he never returned our calls. He finally texted us a week later, saying he needed to come inspect our doors. We agreed and asked him to schedule some time to do it. That was the last time we heard from him. He never scheduled time to come inspect the doors. We’re approaching one year since this all began and we still don’t have replacement doors. The customer service at Hiwassee is HORRIBLE. We want to protect potential customers from experiencing a similar nightmare. They have had multiple opportunities to compensate us or replace the doors, but they have refused. We would definitely recommend a different company.

Our builder (Jalyn Homes) recommended Hiawasee for the windows & doors in our new home. The initial order went ok, but now weve been trying to get the correct window screens for over a year. The screens delivered are the wrong size and the store cannot get the window company (YKK) to send a rep to resolve the size issue. Meanwhile we have screens that dont fit. Our builder and Sam Ledford at Hiawassee have not been very helpful in resolving this issue. Must say were not impressed with their service after the sale.

The work contracted for was never completed, and the performance under the contract was well outside the bounds of acceptable. Almost without exception, no communication from Hiwassee as to order status, delays, or expected performance dates.1. Over 5 weeks between the time the original measurements and the final measurements were made, which translates into over 5 weeks between the time the window could have been ordered and it actually was ordered.2. Approximately another 5 weeks between the final measurements and the date the window (without screens and interior finish panels) was delivered and installed.3. Nearly 6 months from the date the original measurements were made and to the date the final piece to complete the window was made available. This was more than 6 weeks after I had given up and had my contractor finish the inside panels so the window could be painted before the countertops and backsplash were installed.
