Came here on a lark in June 2021, and loved it. When I planned a return trip to Knoxville, Awaken was definitely on my list of places to come back to. The Black Bear latte is just so good. The bacon breakfast burrito was also tasty and the perfect size. I also appreciate convenient bike racks.

Really liked Awaken! The interior is beautiful, very appealing and inviting. The staff was very friendly so we felt welcomed instantly. My iced decaf Americano was perfect which I appreciated because a lot of decaf can be stale and/or boring. Their vegan gluten-free oatmeal sandwich was off the chain! Also love that the showcase local art! Small businesses supporting one another is the best!

We stopped here on the way to Nashville and it was the perfect stop. Quaint coffee shop in a historic building. Plenty of coffee flavors and options! Coffee wasn’t as hot as I would like but next time I would request it to be extra hot.

We have swung by Awaken Coffee a couple times now around the holidays since my folks moved to Knoxville. This coffee shop is situated on a neat street with other shops and sites to visit, so its the perfect place to swing by and grab a coffee drink before strolling the rest of downtown Nashville. Its also spacious and cozy inside--in fact, a church meets there on Sundays--so one can easily chill for hours at a time as well.The baristas have been super friendly (and weirdly quick/efficient) every time; I even wonder if they are somehow connected to the church that meets there. The coffee options are solid, especially for folks who like the sweeter end of the spectrum, as they have more specialty lattes and such than normal. I have zero negative things to say about Awaken--were I a local, I would be here all the time.

I go here every two weeks for an art meetup. Its very lovely. The only inconvenience is that they have a bathroom key -for paying customers only- other than that, place is awesome!

On a beautiful evening my wife and stopped in for the first time today. I have to say the building as a whole is one of the nicer welcome home coffee shops Ive been to. The drink selection wasnt overwhelming, and the bourbon barrel cold brew was on point. There are games to play while you hang out and a massive double door that opens to let the outside in. We will most definitely be back.

Before I say anything you NEED to come to Awaken Coffee! This is absolutely my favorite coffee Ive ever had and Im wishing I didnt live in Texas just to come back. The coffee is not overly sweetened (perfect in my book) and they have super cute names for a lot of their drinks!My husband and I were passing through Knoxville on part of our road trip from Asheville to Nashville. Were huge into coffee and wanted to find the best in Knoxville and boy did we luck out with Awaken!The staff were very friendly, welcoming and dont make you feel in a rush. Below their menu they have a board with specialty drinks which range from the Grinch to the Hulk to a smores latte. I love their variety and fun names! My husband asked for a caramel latte going light on the caramel (he doesnt like when its too sweet) and the barista assured us they are not like Starbucks and dont over do it on syrup and sweetness. thank goodness. I went for the Polar Bear (white mocha and peppermint). Sadly we had to get going so we took them to-go. Wow. Absolutely perfect coffee. We both compliment them on their ratios. I love the subtle peppermint flavors in mine- I wont be burnt out on peppermint in just one drink- so thank you Awaken!The inside is very warm and inviting with more of a modern atmosphere. Comfy seating of course and a Christmas tree! I wish I had taken a photo but they had painted Buddy the Elf on the front window with the best cup of coffee.Bathrooms are available to customers and a key is needed to access.Im sad theres not a big chance well be back in Knoxville anytime soon but I really hope people continue to come to Awaken and get to experience and enjoy their coffee!

Love this coffee shop! Had the Honey Bear latte and the barista really designed the top froth with the perfect flower! Highly recommend this place!

Not sure what they put in their white mocha, but WOW it was delicious! We also got a chai latte that was great. They definitely know how to develop strong, unique, tasty flavor in their drinks. Parking can be tough, but the lot next to Jackson Terminal is free on nights and weekends.

Awesome Asthetic, but a bit hard to find. You have to look well. Ive Had a bit of history at this place, and it brings back memories, along with new ones! Coffee has a unique flavor I havent tried anywhere else, great overall!

This is place has great matcha and coffee and nice atmosphere. It would be a nice place to study or just hang out (they have board games). There is a lot of space as well and their lemon bars are pretty good as well. Great staff and atmosphere.

So cute! They have Milk Coffee. Their environment is super quite and easy to study. Make sure you don’t miss it because you’ll blink and walk past it! But the inside is inviting. It’s a great place to get work done. Not every coffee shop is like that!

My family and I originally discovered Awaken Coffee on an Elf the Shelf scavenger hunt. They make wonderful coffee (I love the Polar Bear Latte at Christmas time!). The frothy designs always make you want to take a photo. They have a wonderful atmosphere, very friendly people, and room to spread out and work. We stop by whenever we’re in the neighborhood.

Instant service, great small talk, very personable folks! Have not had their Honey Bear before. It’s incredible! If you’re inKnoxville, you owe it to yourself to make this your local hang. Comfy furniture, board games, nice people, fabulous drinks. What more could you want?

Located in a sturdy old downtown building, this excellent coffee shop has great coffee and tasty locally sourced pastries. Friendly staff serve local clientele and travellers efficiently.If you are travelling, beware Knoxvilles fee-based parking. There is limited space on the street, but abundant space in public lots at $2 per hour.

I popped into Awaken several morning right when they opened. Staff were always nice to do drip, pour-over or French press if requested. Their usual drip is a nutty tasting light roast drinkable Guatemalan. If youre into something more fruit forward then consider their Ethiopian.

Bourbon-barrel cold brew is the absolute best! I added blackberry for a little extra zing. Hung out w/ friends for over 3 hrs, no pressure from the very friendly staff. Will definitely be back!

A fantastic example of a shop that realizes that there are plenty of awesome roasters out there and they dont need to jump into an over saturated (pun intended) market. They get their coffee from some place in Louisville and its incredible. They have a really cool concert space in the back of the shop as well.

I only got an iced tea but it was really good and if i’m ever in town again, i would come here for sure. it has a really cozy atmosphere and wasn’t too crowded but it wasn’t like we were the only ones on here. also the staff is super nice

Really nice coffee shop. Havent fully explored the menu but the coffee drinks Ive gotten so far have been good. Clean restroom for customers. Good about of outlets for charging. Large space in back that you can rent for parties. Mix of tables for work/study and some comfy chairs too. House music was at a good volume (.not too loud). The staff was super friendly. They are dog friendly! If I was going to request an improvement it would be for faster wifi. I will be going back to this coffee shop.They have a selection of pastries and cookies on site. It doesnt seem like are any sandwich options right now but I could be wrong. There is a cooler with soda pop and water. They make various smoothies with protein powder if desired.

Best coffee shop downtown by far. The staff is courteous and makes some damn good drinks. The baked goods are local and very tasty and the atmosphere is relaxing and rustic. The chicory cold brew is pretty exceptional and their beans lend themselves well to the French press as well. Theres a private meeting room you can reserve for a few dollars and plenty of open seating for casual visits.

We were told to swing by Awaken Coffee while we were in Knoxville. I had a Latte and my sister had a honey bear coffee. I decided not to get a honey bear coffee because it sounded like it was going to be way too sweet. The latte was mediocre but Id highly recommend getting a honey bear.

I like the atmosphere and the coffee is great! The only critique I have is that they do not stay open very late. Because UT is so close by, many college students come here to study. It would be nice to go to a nice coffee shop, like this one, that stays open long enough to do homework after work, school, etc. Also, some of the workers are quite rude when it comes closing time. It makes the customers feel like they are a burden and that they have to rush out. But overall, its a nice place to socialize with friends and enjoy good coffee.

Great service, friendly staff, good vibes, but unfortunately very loud on Sundays after the service. People conversing loudly and kids literally running around. Kinda ruined the quiet coffee shop vibe I was looking for. Seems like any other time is a good time.

Im never surprised how well each seating arrangement makes a big difference in how everyone in the place reacts. I didnt know the coffee shop had a pet friendly policy. Hats off and kudos for the daily and weekend treats.

This is such a comfy, warm coffee shop with lots of wood and nice seating for pairs to meet. They do sometimes run out of tea, but they have improved there ordering to ensure that doesnt happen. The baked goods are usually on point, which I appreciate. All the baristas are pretty much happy, helpful, wonderful people. Definitely worth stopping by to see if its your kind of place.

Great service, great coffee, great environment. But I will not be coming back due to the terrible WiFi. It is such a large issue but nothing is being done about it. I came here to get tons of work done but I was not able to to open any websites. Two employees here completely agree and they feel that something needs to be done about this. PLEASE FIX THIS. This affects business MAJORLY.

I have been here twice, with very different experiences each time.The first time was great, the service was good and the drinks we got were amazing (I got a Hulk, which is matcha and espresso), which made us go back the next time we were in the area.The second time we went was definitely not the same level of quality. My wife and both ordered different matcha and espresso drinks and went to sit down and wait. A few minutes later we were informed they were out of matcha and we would need to order something else (which is fine, stuff happens). The problem with this is that the drinks we ended up ordering were significantly cheaper than the original order, and we received no offer of compensation of any kind for the difference (a little sketchy, but whatever). My replacement drink was fine (peppermint mocha), but my wifes eggnog latte was nauseatingly sweet and tasted nothing like eggnog (she ended up dumping over half of it).Next time we are in the area we will probably try one of the other coffee shops.

Amazing coffee, great service, cozy place!

This is possibly, by far, my favorite coffee shop in town. They vary their selection to give Knoxvillians something other than Ethiopian sun dried coffees. I had a Brazilian press and it was delicious. The seating invites you to stay as long as you want, and the events are interesting.

I wish I could add an extra star because this place deserves it! As a new resident to Knoxville, I got lost downtown when my phone died. The man behind the counter not only offered me directions, but allowed me to borrow a charger and bring my dog inside. The coffee was amazing, probably some of the best Ive ever had, and most definitely the best in Knoxville. I cant wait to go again! (and neither can my dog!) Amazing coffee, amazing atmosphere, and AMAZING SERVICE!

Nice cozy and relaxing atmosphere

I stopped in to Awaken Coffee for the first time on a snowy January morning. The atmosphere was relaxed and the staff was very kind and glad to chat about coffee to this enthusiast. Awaken serves excellent coffee - I ordered an Americano, my standard for gauging quality of a coffee shop, and I was impressed. It was full bodied and rich - not too watery and not too rich. I would definitely recommend Awaken to a friend!

Did frequent everyday because of the drink card would justify buying the over priced cokes with my pastries. However the inconsistency has ruined awaken for me. The lady today informed me that the other three cashiers shouldve never stamped my card if I wasnt getting coffee. So I politely handed her the drink card back and will just goto Jacks or Starbucks from now. Also the employee yesterday who I had to get his attention to make my drink(iced coffee) was too caught up in his conversation to make my coffee the way I asked. The blonde girl and guy(I think his name is Gabe not sure) are the best part of awaken. Other than that Ive spend the last dime there today.
