This was my second experience purchasing a SUV from CarMax and I loved it. They didnt have the car I was interested in on their lot but they were able to ship the car to me in just a few days. Very easy buying process and I will definitely be doing business again with them in the future.

I always have a good experience when I am at a CarMax location. It’s a very easy process. The negative about my car buying experience this time was not always working with the same salesperson. Mistakes were made and cars were lost because I was sent from one person to another always by text. I was looking for a particular model and had to do all the legwork myself, even though I was told they would be on the lookout. Two of these models were at this location one day but were not available when I called. No one really had by back. Although I didn’t get the model I wanted, my final salesperson was terrific. I will use CarMax again, but I really wish you would assign clients to a salesperson that would get to know the needs of the client.

I was honestly totally surprised at the service I received. It was nothing like dealing with a car dealership. My son recommended a friend that worked there. He was exceptional! I test drove 2 cars that I wanted. It was so hot outside when he had to go get the cars from the lot. We purchased our second car from CarMax in October 2021. After driving the car for a few days we came to the determination that the car was not suiting our needs. We were skeptical of the return policy and process but were pleasantly surprised that the folks at Knoxville CarMax stood by everything they said. In under 30 minutes we had returned the car and were on our way back home. We were totally blown away by both the buying and return process at CarMax. The folks we dealt with at CarMax of Knoxville were exceptional.

Faulty cars, rude staff, wasted gas. We drove 2 and a half hours to get to this location of Carmax only to find that the car we had on hold had been damaged in the lot, and the damage was not shown on the website photos. When we addressed this with the sales consultant he said all cars are sold as is and it didn’t matter if it had been damaged, there was no fixing any part of the car or changing the price. He also said if we weren’t going to actually buy the damaged car then we shouldn’t waste his time with a test drive.This is by and far the worst attitude and service I’ve received in not just Carmax but at any dealership.Wasted a day and $60 of gas.Go to a different Carmax, or different dealership!!

I did give them a 5 star but took it back because it seems everyone in the business office makes up policies based on how they feel. My wife and I purchased a few cars from the Knoxville carmax and we recently traded one of them in. After we traded it we drove over an hour to carmax with the paperwork showing it had been traded and paid off so we could get the maxcare refunded to us. They tell us we will have to wait for the lien release or they can send the refund to the lien holder and we can wait to get it from them. We just chose to wait on the lien release. I get the lien release today and I call carmax and speak to another person and now it doesn’t matter about the Lien release it still has to go to the lien holder because of the contract??? When the car got paid off we aren’t under the contract anymore. Apparently carmax doesn’t want to give money back like they say they will. I paid cash for the max care on my car so I’ll be canceling it too. I’m sure they will try to figure out a way to fight me on giving me my money back.

My total experience with CARMAX was very good! I have always had good luck with all my other purchases here and know that this one will be one of my finest purchases. Debra, (the sales lady who helped me) was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. She has even promised to reimburse me for my transfer fee on this vehicle because of some wrong info which was given to her (by no fault of hers) from the office where the car came from. I feel this is very good of her to go out of her way to be sure I am completely satisfied with my purchase! I will definitely use CARMAX again for any future purchases and will highly recommend them to all my acquaintances.

My salesman Adam didnt push me like the usual salesman, but rather let me look on my own and come to him if I needed anything. I didnt end up finding the car I was looking for but I would recommend this place as the first stop in the journey of buying a car anyway.

Good, a slight wait while they inspected the vehicle. I went to eat at a local restaurant. Upon returning, they had a price for me, the same price quoted over the internet. About a half hour later, I was done with the paperwork and walked out the door with a check for my vehicle. The price for it was very fair, I thought. All in all, an unexpectedly pleasant experience.

When the car was finally released after transfer (There had been a failure on the part of the Columbus, GA CarMax store to transfer the car’s title.), the price was raised $1000. from its original advertised price. This increase was mitigated by $199. though, as CarMax did refund the fee paid to have the car moved from GA to Knoxville, TN. I wasn’t able to determine why there was a price increase.The car also had a “no name” replacement battery, for some reason. The battery had to be replaced in the first month of ownership, as the car failed to start, and required a visit from AAA.Otherwise, we are happy with the car, and with CarMax. The people at the Knoxville store were all very cordial, and tried to answer our questions, to the extent they could. The actual sale, and the arrangement of financing went smoothly, and the folk involved should be commended.

Unprofessional!! Paid for a car to be transferred and they gave me the car when the headlight and tail light was out !!! The inside was dirty not cleaned at all. I returned the car the very next morning and have been waiting for my refund and I have been getting the run around about that !

Be very careful. They do a great job conditioning the cars but you need to watch pricing against new cars. I was looking at a couple different models that were 2-3 years old with 20K-30K miles. When I saw how much they wanted I looked at local dealer prices of similarly equipped NEW ones that were $10K-$15K less than they wanted used.

I purchased a 2013 F150 FX4 and there were a few things that needed repaired. They called and put it in the shop gave me the loaner truck until repairs were completed. When I dropped it off I had noticed something else so I mentioned it. They said no problem we will fix that. Great customer service. The sales team was great it’s just a smooth process all the way to doing the financial paperwork.

Searched Carmax for a car, found it, had it brought to the Knoxville Carmax via the computer. Did most everything on their site before actually going to their dealership. Once the car arrived, I went to the dealership, drove it and filled out paperwork and it was mine! Everyone was kind and professional. They kept me informed via text or email all during the process.

We purchased a 2015 Jeep Wrangler from CarMax 2 weeks ago. We drove 3 hours from Tennessee to the Hickory, NC location to purchase the Jeep due to it was going to take them 2 weeks to have it sent to the Knoxville, TN location near us. The staff in Hickory was polite and the experience went well. During the test drive we noticed a back break squeaking when applied. Due to it being a Saturday they had no mechanics on site and wrote in the buyers agreement they would fix whatever the issue was. After driving 3 hours home in the Jeep we take it to a mechanic, who said the caliper was seized up and the break line was crimped not allowing the break fluid to flow.The Jeep went to CarMax Knoxville the following Friday. Initially they called my husband and said they heard no squeak and found nothing wrong. After asking them to look again they say it needs new rotators, breaks and that the axel was leaking.So much for the 125 point check I guess. It has been exactly one week since the Jeep was left with them for repairs and after numerous phone calls they just called and said we could come pick it up. Fingers crossed this mess is over but Im skeptical since the mechanics had different versions of what was wrong.Im not happy with them selling me the Jeep in that condition. Also allowing me to drive it 3 hours away with faulty breaks and it taking the a week to repair the issues.I definitely have no trust in this company and would not purchase a vehicle from them again.

I bought a Lincoln MKC last year with the extended warranty and when I had to take my car into carmax to have it worked on they kept it 7 weeks! Still not completely fixed I asked for my car back.Lies after lies I caught the service manager Jay Marcelo and Kelly Rainey I called corporate and still my car was not fixed another 7 weeks I found out the parts wasn’t even ordered for my car.The best thing I did was traded the car in for a Honda Accord at the Honda dealership not carmax!I wouldn’t even give them a star for anything.Don’t buy your car from them if you do don’t have it worked on there!!!🤬🤬🤬🤬

The experience at the beginning was good. Found a truck that I really liked, but had a small popping sound in the rear end. They called the next week to setup the repair. Once I dropped it off, it was like the service went out the door. It took them five days to get it to Ford and since then Ford hasn’t really done anything. Ford wasn’t communicating with them and it took me speaking to a manager for someone to go down to ford only to be told their waiting on a some kind of tester at another location 2-3 miles away. Now waiting even longer to get my truck back. Very aggravating.

It actually could not have been a better experience. I expected the dealer to try and lower the online appraisal that did not happen. After appraising the car they made a full dollar offer of the value stated online. I was more than a little surprised. We were in and out in around an hour with our check for the full appraised amount. No doubt the most professional auto dealership I have worked with in all ways.

My experience has been up and down but finished exactly as I hoped it would, with me leaving on a 24 hour test drive. I love that I was able to look online at the available inventory, which I spent multiple days browsing for ideas on which car would be best for me. Upon entering the dealership it felt like the only option I had was to sit with a sales employee and continue to browse the online database. I expressed interest in browsing the lot to see if anything new jumped out at me. It was extremely difficult for him to understand that I was happy to browse and the one I found online at another location wasnt the one I absolutely needed to have. I also could afford to spend more but ideally wanted to stay as budget friendly as possible. Please listen to what the customer is asking for and if it feels different from normal it is still okay. Listen, repeat back what you heard, and then offer suggestions. We honestly almost left on two different occasions because the sales employee was set in his way of how the experience should be handled. I expect to be back in 24hours to finalize this purchase.

I bought a 2018 chevy equinox from them mid 2020. Everything seemed great, until I needed new tires for my SUV. Turns out the tires were 7 years old. How did 7 year old tires get on a vehicle that was 2 years old when I bought it? This is why I avoided going to a regular used car dealership, and thought I would avoid this kind of scam from a known dealer, I was wrong. Someone is doing something pretty scummy, so buyer beware.

Very good website that allows selection of car and good service to deliver to my home town. However, not enough communication on where the car is at any one point. We had to inquire after two weeks to find it had already arrived from original site. As far as our Carmax local dealership we got top notch service from first meeting through purchase. We were able to take the car for a 24 hour trial that helped get used to driving it.

I put in a transfer last Saturday on line was one of the first to sport the car and made phone calls Monday and yesterday talked to a representative who asked me to email a guy by the name Kirk and he never responded until the car was being transferred to Chattanooga. Very disappointed with Carmax of Knoxville, hard to get anyone on line, poor unorganized location. The picture shows the car was held for me in my account how on earth is the car going to Chattanooga to someone else?

I love carmax! I got my previous car there 3 years ago so I decided to use them again! All the employees are so friendly and they dont pressure you like at a regular dealership. I originally looked on line and I wanted a Ford Escape but I didnt see the one I wanted at the Knoxville location near where I lived but I saw one in Virginia so for $99 they shipped it to my location. It was perfect! And the sales consultant I had Bill Cicero was great he even held my car so no one else would look at it because I was having problems getting my title from my finance company even though I had paid the car off that I was trading in! This process took a month but Bill assured me that it would work out and it did! I wouldnt go anywhere else!

So, I needed a new car to commute back and forth to Indiana as I work up there and down here in Tennessee. I stopped by about a week and a half ago and was lucky enough to meet sales rep Oscar. I told him exactly what I wanted and later that evening he sent me this beauty and I was pretty much immediately sold. I went Thursday and did all the financing paperwork and such and then I picked up the car yesterday and I couldnt be happier. Oscar was outstanding and he texted me from his personal cell phone and he was very patient with my schedule because Im also a sales rep in a different line of work. I enjoyed simply talking to him and also using my Spanish for a little practice and his customer service was simply outstanding second to none. He was casual yet friendly and professional and was not pushy at all but I told him I was going to be an easy sell to be honest LOL. But even with that he took very good care of me and make sure I was pleased. Lori handle the financing paperwork and she was extremely kind professional and friendly as well. I forget her last name but it was very German because I studied German in high school and college. So all around this was a very fun experience because Im the type of person that likes to enjoy every experience in life and also enjoy making new friends along the way I think I did so at CarMax. It was icing on the cake when I walked out to see my new car and it had the big yellow bow on it. That was such a fun Simple Touch which just shows that they go above and beyond... I was also glad to see the gas tank was full because it wasnt the day I looked at it. They do all the extras and take care of you from beginning to end. Ill definitely go back to CarMax when Im looking for my Jeep I want next summer and I would encourage anyone else to go check them out as well. Be sure to ask for Oscar if you do.

Its great! The Rep was working professionally, he was very courteous to the customers. There was no hidden costs. Few days later, someone vandalized the back bumper but Carmax took care very well as promised, even cleaned the car and shined the tires.

The absolute worst car buying experience we have ever had. Our salesman had no clue what he was doing. Thankfully another salesman that overheard all the issues came over to help when he could. They offered us an outrageous interest rate with us having very good credit, as soon as they found out we would find our own financing, it was like they quit trying to sell us the car. I have never had to try so hard to get a dealership to sell us a car before. The next day we were told we should be out the door in about 30 minutes.....we arrived pre-approved through another lender and it took over 3 hours to be finished. Horrible customer service!!

Overall, the experience with th sales rep was good until we closed the deal.1) The listing included a bed cover, but the truck did not haves bed cover. The manger offered reimburse us $250 when we show proof of purchase of a bed cover. However, $250 is the cost of the absolute cheapest bed cover2) We paid $199 to have the truck shipped to Knoxville and were told that it would go toward the purchase of the truck, but that amount did not appear as a credit on the closing.3) After driving ~1000 miles a notice appeared on the OBD: Maintenance Required. There wasn’t a sticker on the windshield that the oil had been changed with date & mileage, So, we’ll have to get a diagnostic done to be safe.

The first time I purchased a car from her things went smoothly. This time not so much. Started out with misinformation from a call center rep who would not return phone calls or emails. I requested to have a vehicle shipped and after I paid the deposit I heard nothing for a week. I had to call 3 or 4 times just to get some information. The floor mats I received were not standard issued mats for my car nor were the anchored down even though I reminded them and they put a mat over another mat but did not solve the problem. The car was never really detailed after I purchased it. Just washed the outside and maybe sprayed the inside with some fragrance so I had to detail it myself. The car itself is great and I am happy with it but the service and the process from start to finish left a lot to be desired. Its supposed to be an easy process with them but in this case it just wasnt.

Very upset. We bought a car here, and we now have to change the tires, rotors that look like a vinyl record, and get the front axle looked at because it’s leaking with less than 55,000 miles on it. Also an alignment really bad. I work for a dealership now, and was told this info, so all is correct. BUT Mind you right after we purchased it, we had it sent back to carmax for new brakes because they were wore out, but never told us about the vinyl record rotors, and no clue if they even changed them now. Please take your vehicle to get checked out before purchasing. I have purchased the $4k extended warranty, but we all know these items aren’t covered.

Truly had no idea what the outcome was going to be. I had already seen a car online that caught my eye, but did not know if we were going to be able to purchase, but Norm greeted us with a smile(behind his mask) and helped us through the whole process.

The best car service around. I love how the prices are straight forward and you know what you are getting without having to haggle or feel like you are getting gipped. If Marc is working there make sure to ask for him! He was super nice throughout the whole process and has helped us buy 2 cars!

I have bought 4 vehicles from CarMax. They have got less and less quality over the years. I am primarily referring to overall shape of the vehicles once they arrive via a transfer. The vehicles are filthy and before a particular vehicle was transferred, I specifically asked if there were any visible stains and was told there were zero. Paid the 200 dollars to transfer the vehicle, it arrived. The vehicle was covered in stains. The first vehicles that I purchased was way back in 2008-2009 timeframe were cleaned up before they sold them to you, it seems like now, they give you vehicles directly after someone else trades them in. Just disappointed in the overall quality of what they are selling. I just don’t feel they try very hard anymore. I am referring to my local CarMax in Knoxville, TN

EDIT: (9/12/20)Car purchased had significant obvious damage but was unable to view at purchase due to a combination of customers and employees not wearing masks inside and the pouring rain.Carmax head office reps seem friendly enough but the first inspection took place on 8/25 after my purchase on 8/13. Work began on 9/3 and my car was returned 9/10.Grill was reinstalled but still didnt sit right in the bumper, broke out a flashlight under the car and see what is clearly accident damage and an attempt to conceal it. Guess Im calling head office again...
