Went to return a single item, and was not refunded for the tax. At the same time, I was spending an additional 700 dollars. It was simple math that the manager did not even understand. That day they lost 1,200 of business from me, as I ultimately returned everything. And in the future they will lose many thousands for I never plan to come back. Online shopping has better selection and customer service.

Very helpful staff and very knowledgeable. Many years ago I had a problem with the Alpine Shop when it was in Webster Groves due to one of the guys that ran the place. But he is long gone and I have since found the Kirkwood location and staff to be an excellent source of info, supplies & outdoor gear. Highly recommended!

Went in to look at ski boot options and get fitted. Chris (ski/board department), was phenomenal. I have been skiing for 10 years and still managed to learn something new from Chris. Super informative and helpful. Awesome attitude and willing to help. Never felt pressured into purchasing anything but I still ended up snagging a new pair of ski boots. Would recommend 10/10

I had an amazing experience with Cec while shopping for footwear. I came in thinking I wanted a certain shoe, but had concerns. She listened and offered me a different shoe that I ended up loving!!!! And will be back to purchase more in the future. She talked to me more as a friend and not a “sales person.” Working years in retail myself I really appreciated that. If you’re looking for apparel or shoes, do yourself a favor and make sure you go to the Alpine Shop in Kirkwood first. I shopped at REI and the Alpine Shop for clothes and shoes needed for a trip and the Alpine Shop is the clear cut winner for selection, style, and customer service. This store is amazing and I’ll continue to make sure I shop there first before going elsewhere.

TL;DR - smaller than REI, but still has everything youre looking for and it seems cozier than you would expect. 10/10 would shop here again.You know, the folks that work here are nice (shout out to Steven with the sweet van). Theyre nice and theyre experienced with what theyre talking about.You go on and ask about backpacks and two people will help you out, ask you questions about your needs, share the most relevant technical specifications about a few different products they might want to suggest, and then tell you a story about one of their personal vacations using that exact gear or something similar.As a testimony to how great this place is, I was shopping there during the pandemic and the folks were still super friendly. Im a bit of a gearhead and I spotted a campervan in the parking lot. I asked the clerk about it and she told me who it belonged to because it was one of the salesmans. The salesman then very cheerfully talked to me all about it and then showed off all of its cool features. He even told me what products he was able to buy from their store and which ones he had to buy elsewhere because they were out of the ordinary for a retail gear shop. I mean, the enthusiasm this guy had really demonstrated how much fun shopping at this place can be.Steven, if you see this, thanks again mate and happy camping!

This is arguably the most helpful store Ive ever been in. They actually have people walking around to see what youre interested in. Its not even a sales push, just good conversation and honest answers. Ive only made one small purchase, (would have made more but there was limited items after the pandemic), but each visit I gained a ton of information about the products and local spots to use them. Special shout-out to the Kayak department, super helpful for getting me started.

Good energy exists amongst like minded outdoor seeking people & I feel like home at the alpine shop in Kirkwood. It has a been a while & I walked into to inter galactic beastie boys, made me dance while clothes shopping.I bought my first board from their old store in Webster in e 90’s & one of their board reps helped me try on boots & pick out the new BOA technology when tightening on & off, which is super convenient.The in person advice & experience is well worth it. This was my first time stopping here. Facility is clean and the staff are friendly. I lucked out by stopping by during a sale and picked up some essentials for kayak season. I probably could have picked up some of the items for cheaper online, but with the trusty staff and being able to try things on while I was there trumped the online shopping experience. The staff is fairly knowledgeable of the outdoor sports / adventures so they can help point you in the right direction when you’re looking for the right gear. Neat little spot. If you’re in the Kirkwood area stop by and find all the outdoor gear you need.

I’ll give the benefit of the doubt and provide two doubtful stars. I was put on hold for 10 minutes (twice) for a question on a Garmin product today, which could have been answered in less than 10 minutes. At least say that you’re finding someone who can answer the question after 5 minutes on hold. I went ahead and just ordered on Amazon. If I didn’t give the benefit of the doubt, I’d give a zero and just say that Amazon is better

Alpine Shop and specifically Elizabeth has been our go to for years to purchase local snowboard gear. With our hard to fit son, she tirelessly works until she gets him a boot that fits just right. We are so lucky to have a St. Louis shop to help get us ready to hit the slopes every year!

The store has great selection of gear items, but what sets this gear store apart is their customer service. The sales associate (Miles) went above & beyond to assist me with a damaged pack. I recently visited the Alpine Shop with my daughter who was looking for a new backpack for multi-day hiking trips. Allison was a tremendous help and spent lots of time with us giving advice based on her considerable experience, fitting the pack to her, and helping her make a decision. She ended up choosing an Osprey pack and the price was the same as the pack can be found online and at national retailers. However, there is no way those outlets can match the Alpine Shop for service! I shop there whenever I can and always have a great experience!

Kyle was as rude as I’ve ever been treated as a customer. He forgot that I was the customer. He wanted me to let him finish talking about how well the ski boot was going to fit when my toes were curled up inside of it. He didn’t have my proper size. When I asked how I would get fitted he flippantly told me to come back at the beginning of the ski season.

Every single time I go here I have the best customer service experience. I talk to people who are extremely knowledgeable and who not only help me find what Im looking for, but things I didnt even know I needed. They always explain the why behind the products and I feel more educated about the things Im bringing home. 10 out of 10 would recommend .

Chris in the boot area was super helpful in adjusting my boots to better fit me.

I wanted to only buy a pair of Burton step on boots and I did also mention to the sales person named Eric that I have already got bindings and boards from elsewhere.I really appreciated Eric’s time to help me trying on, however when I made my decision to buy the pair, he immediately brought to my attention that I also have to buy the step on bindings as this is based on Burton policy. He never brought this up when I told him that I was looking for step on boots from the very beginning and there is no sign in the store indicating that i have to buy step on boots along with bindings. I felt confused but as I was super excited to get the pair at the moment, I bought the binding along with the boots.But on the way home I realized that he might have over sold me stuffs that I don’t need to get more commission (and the binding is black not white). I also called Burton customer service and they confirmed they never have such a policy that step on boots and binding must be sold together. I felt like I was scammed so I ended up returning the binding but keep the boots.Today I visted again at Alphine with my own step on bindings (white) and the board. When a gentleman tried to help me install the bindings to the board.Suddenly Eric came out throwing some rude words and stopped him from installing the bindings and asked no one is allowed to serve me even though I did let them know that I would pay for the installation. Then Kyle came to me explained that the store has some stocking issues which is why they have to sell step on boots and bindings together. But I did let him know that this was not what Eric told me that day and I don’t believe as a customer I should be aware of your store problems ??? I suggested that you’d better put a note on the wall saying step on boots must be sold with stepon binding going forward. As a loyal customer of Alpine, I had good experience shopping here but I just feel very disappointed to be treated like this.

Elliot spent an hour and a half with us helping us get fitted for a backpack, showing us how to pack it, and walking us through the back packing list for the things we still needed for our backpacking trip. He had lots of tips and suggestions that could have only come from a real backpacking pro. So helpful! If he’s in town and not on the trails I would recommend going in when he’s working if you are looking for backpacking gear.

Alpine shop helped us pick out a beautiful kayak that works well for us. They went above and beyond to help us figure out the best way to secure the kayak to our car. In an hour we had everything we needed, couldnt recommend them enough!

I came in looking to pick up my first pair of ski boots and was greeted by Elizabeth! She was extremely helpful and asked every question she needed to know what kind of boot would work best for me! I felt educated on what to look for when it comes to both boots and skis! She even answered my questions about gear afterwards! You can really tell how passionate she is about skiing and has fun creating the same for others!

The staff was very friendly. There is a great selection of clothes. They have plenty of outdoor items without being overstocked. I have to say it again, I really impressed by the people that work there.

The service and knowledge of Carrie in the bike shop was amazing! Not only did she show me the issues, she showed me how to identify them and whatto watch out for! Been going to this place since they opened in Kirkwood. Stopped going about 3 years ago because of the very poor customer service. In the past 2 months, I have been in there on three different occasions looking for a specific item, and have not found anyone that can answer questions, or someone to actually ask the questions to. Today was the final straw, 1/1/20. Not only was I completely ignored, I saw no less than 5 workers either standing together talking to each other, or on their phones. You state that customer service is priority, but your action say otherwise.

This is a great store with a awesome staff that is friendly helpful and knowledgable on the equipment they sell. They are also very involved in holding events to support local out doors groups as well as veteran groups. And hold classes to teach people about outdoors activities and how to stay safe. I have been shopping there for a little over a year now and have been very impressed with how involved they are.

Fabulous service and product offerings every time I go in. I had an especially great visit today when the cycling department helped me find an almost completely outdated brake shoe I had been looking for, and an attendant helped my look for a nice, durable jacket. An awesome store.

Left my bike to be fixed since the chain was skipping after putting on a new one. Asked for shifting to be adjusted. Wait 2 days and I get the bike and its still not fixed. Its literally doing the same thing. They didnt call when it was ready. Every other bike shop Ive been to calls and suggests or ask if u want a part replaced with a new one, not after you pay and its on the receipt. Now I have to wait more days for someone to actually fix it. Only paid 10 bucks but still, I literally paid 10 and a 5 dollar tip for nothing. Definitely wont be buying a bike here or wasting anymore my time and hard earned money just to be left in the same situation just with a few less dollars in my pocket. Everyone is polite and helpful but Id suggest a legitimate bike shop.

Ski shop sales guys originally sold too small boots, with return experience they were still trying to convince us to get too small size but ultimately allowed us to purchase a size he can tolerate and actually wear. Good quality products with great selections. Still not sure why they kept pushing the too small boots?? Wish St Louis would get another ski shop. Looking for healthy business competition for the benefit to the customers. Overall recommend this neat place.

One of the best outdoor experience stores I have ever come upon! The variety and selection is fantastic with all the big names in outdoor gear. It made me miss our backpacking days from many years ago. Friendly staff and expert advice is on hand.

The shop closed early on New Years Eve and we had our skii’s in there and needed them asap for the next day. I messaged the Facebook group and the store manager Angie reached out to me and VERY kindly took care of our problem. She had another worker, Eric, come in early the next day even though they were closed, fix the skii’s and get them ready for us to leave for Colorado. This store was incredibly awesome for that and I am blown away by the kindness. Thank you again Staff, and Happy New Years!

My satisfaction with working with the Alpine Shop over the holiday season was out-freaking-standing.I just finished getting my ski boots custom fitted by Jake in the ski shop and I could not be happier with my experience working with him.I work myself as a professional guide in Southeast Alaska and recognize and understand the importance of having your gear dialed in - the safety of other individuals is coincided with ensuring you are rocking and rolling at no less than 100%, which includes all of your gear. Jake understands this and poked, probed, and custom molded my boots to my feet to ensure nothing less than perfection, my dude. - his words. We worked over a period of two weeks to ensure that the fit was dialed in to that level of perfection that Jake requires for his work.I myself head back up to Alaska this evening and cannot wait to rip with this new set up.If you are in the greater Saint Louis area, there is no other place you should go, with no other bootfitter you should see, in order to get your ski boots fitted. Jakes work, demeaner, candor and dedication to the craft cannot be understated. Thanks, my dude!

Great independently owned outdoor shop. Good overall selection of high end gear for most types of outdoor activity. Has a good selection of kayaks and gear, the bike shop is very nice, lots of clothing. Prices are in line with other outlets, but they run specials that often put them under the major outlets.

I loved going there while growing up in high school. I would drive out to Webster Grove just to do window shop on camping equipment before they moved to Kirkwood. To this day I still window shop hoping to snag a good sales in a clearance section.

Eric in the ski shop was awesome! I came in last Friday and expected to wait 3-4 days to have my bindings tested and adjusted. Eric did it while I waited 20mins. Great customer service. I will definitely recommend all my friends and family to the alpine shop after experiencing that level of service.

The whole staff here is wonderful, they are helpful in assisting whatever you would like to do. Cycling to off road cycling, camping, snow skiing, kayaking, to fishing and so on.I have taken several day trips with the Alpine shop. This is where I tell people to go to for any type of out doors activity.

The customer service at this shop is so above and beyond. I don’t live in St. Louis anymore and still come back because I know they’ll stand by their word helping if there are issues with anything at all

While the ski tune ups are always well done, the service is what makes me wish St Louis had another quality ski service shop in town. Picking up skis at the Kirkwood location after sending them from the OFallon IL location was a mess. First, theres no clear sign designating where the ski shop is so we waited in the long check out line to pay. When we were redirected to the back of the store and found the ski shop, three men were behind the counter and it still took about five to ten minutes for someone to acknowledge us as the only other people back there or to say someone will be with you shortly. Lastly, the man that gave me back my skis forgot to give back my ski clip until my mom realized it wasnt with our skis. Skis look great, but will be looking for a better place to go for great service before our ski trip next year.

Was in the market for a kayak and heard about Alpine Shop so I decided to drive the hour and check em out. I am glad I made the trip, Angie Bono was an absolute joy to work with.Angie went above and beyond to help me with a fair deal on a beautiful Jackson Coosa HD. I can say this, you will be hard pressed to find better customer service anywhere like you will find at Alpine Shop.Angie you and your staff were an absolute joy to work with and I will be back to get another Coosa from you for my wife.

I would say they had bad customer service but that would imply they had any customer service. I literally walked through a gaggle of employees standing around talking and nobody said a word too me. There was more staff in the store than customers. I bought what I could find myself and left. I told the cashier and she seemed disbelieving. I likely wont be back.

Buying ski clothes in Saint Louis doesnt get any better than this.First of all we walked in at open (10am on Saturday) and there was a table of complimentary ALCOHOL. A tub of iced down free beer. I shopped all morning while drinking for free, it does not get any betrer.They dont have the lowest prices but still keep a good inventory of of clearance and discount clothes on hand. If youre willing to pay for the quality they have all of the topline brands and plenty of choices. Clothing, equipment, and more. Sections for men, women and kids. Lots of staff around and all very friendly and helpful. Very impressed.
