The owner/boat captain is skilled, knowledgeable and highly entertaining. Every single team member is kind and accommodating-from Michelle in the store front to Caile down below. All of the dive leaders are friendly, engaging and attentive to comfort and skillset.I spent two days with this crew, and I now know a whole new level of quality. I have never before seen more amazing sea creatures than at Molokini & Turtle Town. And I have NEVER felt more safe and secure in borrowed gear.Mahalo, Scuba Shack!!

You cannot go wrong here - Charlie, the crew, the experience were awesome. Never have I had hot chocolate and coffee waiting for me before boarding the boat, had fresh pineapple served for snacks, or seen such nice equipment - and I dont only mean it was well taken care of, though it was. It was also brand spanking new, nice equipment. Beautiful boat, excellent visibility, all made for a fabulous time. They took care of us from start to finish and all at a better rate than other shops. Thanks Charlie!

We had a great scuba diving trip with Charley and the crew. The boat is very fast and has a hot shower on the back. The rental gear was modern and worked great. Everything was on time and very professional. There we some delicious snacks and drinks waiting for us during the downtime between the two dives. The boat leaves from the Kihei boat ramp. We had a really nice guide who gave us lots of info above the water and made us feel confident down below. Mahalo

Any company that tries to force not just customers, but anyone entering the store to be vaccinated ahead of any mandates, is not only uneducated on how the virus spreads but is unprofessional and doesn’t support individual risk mitigation or freedom and is not a business that should be supported.. plenty of better dive shops to give your business too..

Our family had a great dive with Scuba Shack. The owner / captain Charlie likes to be the first boat out - but that gave us the Molokini dive site to ourselves, in that we were ending our dive as all the other boats were arriving. The divemasters and staff were all very helpful, and overall we had a great time and some nice dives.

I love diving with scuba shack maui... They really make it fun. And are beyond capable, being new to diving they have been very helpful and patient with both myself and my 13 your old... Im especially grateful for their being as accommodating as they are. When my 13 year old wasnt quite feeling up to diving the 2nd dive she was able to join the snorklers in the group so that I may complete the second dive. Its a good feeling to know that my daughter was safe at the surface making the most of the opportunity, while I dive below. As much as I love having fun, I truly appreciate knowing we were both in good hands. Oh and the best part, we had whale and dolphin sightings while on the boat!! As return divers were definitely looking forward diving with them when we return to maui for our 3rd time 😇

Kaylee was a great DM! Like some others have stated, the captain can be off putting at times, didnt bother me much because I am not sensitive, something to consider if you are. Minus 1 Star for both of my tanks starting at 2900 psi. Other than that, Molokini dive was beautiful and we saw some whales on the way back. Boat left from Kihei boat ramp, which made it a short trip to the crater and a short drive for us because we stayed in Kihei.

I’m so torn on this review:Pros: my spouse was completely terrified of the ocean and Katie was an absolute saint. She was patient, professional, and “kept me calm” as she learned. She’s now hooked. (Deserves 5 stars)The open water was cheapest I could find and included the malakini dive. It also has paper books so you don’t have to do the whole e learning scam with PADI.The boat and equipment were very new/clean/fast.Cons:Charlie is just generally rude to his customers. He is not polite. If you don’t care about customer service from the captain, then I’d give 5 stars to this shop. Everything else was great. His character is almost comical so you can take that approach then go for it.

There are so many dive shops in this area, so it might be hard to pick one over the other. But if youre feeling a little uneasy about diving, then go with Scuba Shack and ask for divemaster Blair. For context, I got my open water and advanced certs almost a decade ago, and hadnt dove more than 6-8 tanks since. Even with 2 refresher dives near shore a few months prior, I was feeling uneasy. Not to mention, I have been getting seasick lately, even while taking Dramamine. When we took off on Scuba Shacks Double Scoop, the two divemasters took the time to assess our level of comfort and experience, and provided an indepth description/history/common sightings. Once we got into the water and began descending, I was overcome by panic, but Blair stayed with me the entire time, calming me down and providing visual encouragement and affirmation. During our second dive at Turtle Town, the divemasters were transparent on the current patterns and provided sufficient caution on when to stay close to the bottom and what to expect around the caverns. There were a few spots where I had difficulty with neutral buoyancy, but Blair helped to make adjustments when needed and helped to guide me around tricky areas. She was awesome and made me feel relaxed and safe the entire time. When conditions are smooth and all divers are proficient, you wouldnt get to witness the attentiveness or composure as I had. Youll be in good hands diving with Scuba Shack and the two divemasters there. Moreover, Charley made it easy to book over the phone, especially considering we had called an hour prior to shop closing time to dive first thing the following morning. They offered refreshments after registration and a light snack between the dives. Crew is professional and really friendly, and because there havent been a ton of tourists, we got to see a lot of marine life!

AWESOME SERVICE, EQUIPMENT & CREW! Booking our dives was super simple because their website was clear and the employees were so friendly. It’s fantastic that this shop uses brand new gear which made me feel safe and very much privileged. The option to buy 30 day old scuba gear is also a killer deal! The boat is very clean and efficient in the way that it is set up. They even have a hot water shower hose that you can use to rinse the salt water off after your dives! The captain & crew is what made the experience stellar. The crew is very thorough and comedic when briefing us about the boat & trip. Captain Charley is very experienced and entertaining. Forgot your underwater camera? No problem! He brings his camera on every single dive to take pictures of his divers and the colorful Maui marine life. He posts tons of pictures on their blog for us to view & share for free … how amazing is that? You can tell that this dive shop focuses on the total customer experience. I highly recommend that you schedule your scuba diving trip with these guys. They offer snorkeling as well and their snorkel gear is top notch. Wait, did I tell you about us in this magazine?Hey, you guys, hey, I know you are already here on Maui, but hey, I have some extra properties that I am not using and, well, do you want to rent them?My god - I do not need to hear you gargle your balls and pitch to us how awesome you are, we have already paid to come out on your boat. It was like a horrible timeshare presentation that you didnt even know you signed up for.No I dont want to rent your vacation properties, no, I dont care that you were in a magazine, no, I dont want to hear about how fast your boat is. Providing a quality diving experience and bombarding customers with our ego are two entirely different things. If you are deaf then I would definitely suggest that you go with Scuba Shack. If you want to meet a good hearted owner who cares about customers and not how much money can be exploited from them, then look elsewhere.

Very professional, great gear, 700 hp boat, decent continental breakfast between dives, hot shower on the boat and a coffee bar if you arrive early to compete your paperwork, and $20 cheaper than the other dive shops I called (about 5). They had a comprehensive safety and dive briefing and doing whale watching during the surface interval was a nice plus. They leave really early (5:30 am) but we beat most of the other dive boats to Molokini Crater and we were in the water at 1st light and also we got to Turtle Town (near Makenna) before any other dive boats too. The Dive master Carry (sp?) was awesome and she spotted a super camouflaged octopus, shark in a cave, shrimp, nudibanch and a manta in the distance that we got to watch for a few minutes at the end of the dive. My only complaint was Captain Charlie gave my dad a hard time about taking a few ounces of coffee when I suggested he keep me company when he dropped me off and I was the 1st to arrive at 5am. That was very minor and everything was top notch, so I definitely recommend this place. One thing of note is they replace all their gear every 6 months, so if you are in the market for some dive gear at a 50% discount you might want to give them a call.

But some of the spine just stayed in the skin. They should have told me to cut the wound to remove the spine clearly. Their boat is very fast and powerful. Having been on this boat ~40 times over the past 8 years, Ive seen a large number of different customers ranging from snorklers, new divers, & infrequent divers to very experienced divers. This operation does a very good job of providing a professional, fun and interesting experience. When most divers are experienced, the dives are more challenging. With a mixed group, they do a very nice job of catering to each level. The equipment is always new and the boat is well designed to provide sun, or shade, or protection from wind and surf for those days. Very rarely Ive heard a negative comment after leaving the boat, but never about the fundamentals of safe diving; typically divers enjoy the services provided and look forward to returning.

Charley runs a great operation. Our boat was the first one to arrive at Molokini, letting our first dive happen without the hubbub of tons of other divers. On my first day with them there were two dive masters, Blair and Katy, were fun and personable on the boat and strong experienced divers underwater. Special shout out to Blair who DMed for me - she knew exactly where to find a shark resting spot and spotted two very hard to see scorpion fish who were traveling together, along with a bunch of other neat wildlife.I went back a second day, bringing my daughter who wanted to try scuba diving for the first time. Dave was the DM today and he was great with her. They went in together and cruised back and forth across the reef at up to 35. She loved the experience and cant wait to get started on her OW cert next. Big thanks to Charlie and Scuba Shack for making this happen - it was the highlight of my daughters vacation and mine, and I couldnt have asked for a better first dive experience for her.

There is more to the certification than just $350 and that it can be done in 3 days (sarcastically). After asking him a few detailed questions, he came back to me saying he can answer my questions if I ask them one by one. Long review short – don’t dive here unless you want to be treated like a child or if you are female, you like some random stranger trying to grab you at every opportunity. When we arrived the boat the next morning, we heard nothing but complaints that we were using our own gear. We offered to hook up our gear and were told, “No, we just need everyone out of our way for right now and we will hook it up for you.”Once we were on the boat, things only got worse. Charley, the owner, likes to yell and treats people like 1st grade students, his staff included. Charley told us they were at maximum capacity for the boat that day and as a result, we would be pretty tight on space. Since were so tight on space, I opted to take my wet suit to the other side of the bench (where no one sitting because the open water divers were getting their dive brief at the rear of the boat) to get suited up to give everyone on the bench a little more space. I was quickly reprimanded by Charley that I had to put my wet suit on only by my BC. Charley then sat next to me to get his gear on and told me I was in his way and that I should leave the bench area until he was in the water.Charley then pulls everyone together, after we are geared up, the water is incredibly choppy, three divers are getting sick from the rocking in the water, and Charley takes this opportunity to do his dive briefing, after we are all geared up and people are getting sick from the choppy water. Charley then states the dive will be guided and we are not wonder off on our own. Once in the water, Charley is so busy taking pictures with his own camera that he does not show you anything once underwater. If that is the case, why did we have to say on the “guided dive”?After the first dive, we moved to the second site, we again hear complaints on our gear, we again offer to put it all together on our own, and are told that we can’t touch our gear and that our Aqua Lung BCs are the worst design he has ever seen and could not imagine why anyone would buy the BCs. Thanks for your opinion, Charley. We really like our gear and if you were not comfortable putting everything together, you should have let us do it ourselves like we offered to several times, particularly since your crew hooked up the regs incorrectly every time and we ended re-doing everything anyways (e.g. hose to BC was not clipped in tightly, back up reg was left loose, tank not turned on, etc.).The creepiest part of this experience happened at the end of the second dive. Charley said there were warm showers available and that if any of the women on the boat, “wanted a free hair washing [by him] so we could go back and tell our husbands/boyfriends how a real man washes a women’s hair, he would be happy to oblige.” That on top of the fact that Charley was so handsy with the female divers, particularly the young females, was disgusting and creepy.Fast forward to heading back to shore, Charley instructs the captain to stop the boat about 3 minutes shy of the dock so he can tell us about his properties that he owns and is renting out. As I mentioned before, the water is incredibly choppy and we now have four people hanging over the side getting sick, all the while, Charley is trying to sell his time share to us oblivious to the fact that his passengers are not comfortable and should be taken to shore quickly. We finally got back to the dock and were told we had to wait to get our gear until the boat was out of the water. Not too happy about this as Charley then tells us that he and his crew will be running drills for about 20 minutes so we should go hang out on shore until he was ready for us. When he finally does get the boat out of the water and hands us our gear back, he doesn’t even give us our gear – he tries to give us his rental gear. I guess our gear wasn’t as bad as he made it out to be since he was so dead set on trying to give us his rental gear.

I did my OWD diving license here and am of the opinion that a rating is absolutely necessary. The first I was picked up directly at the pier and brought directly to the diving school. After a very good education and the further procedure, I decided then for SCUBA Shack. I have to say that I do not regret it at all. The prices are a bit higher than in other diving schools, but the bungalow was in that time with in terms. Among other things, I even had my own diving instructor at times with whom I then passed my exams. You do not feel like youre in mass processing. On the contrary, people pay close attention to diving problems, thanks to the small groups they offer. It is also clear that not all languages can be covered, but the most common languages (English, German, French and others) are spoken fluently, which simplifies the communication between each other. I will definitely come again. Thank you for the exceptionally great days.Stay October 2015
