Great people, great experience. Don’t be turned off by the fact that the dock is located in a shipyard. When another private renter screwed us over we had to scramble to find another boat on short notice. Sand Dollar was the solution to our problem. The 22’ Key West center console was in good condition for a rental and was well equipped. The team at the dock made everything effortless. Will definitely be renting again as it is 1000x easier than trailering our boat from Orlando.

Overall the experience was good. The staff man named Jeff was friendly.The boat wasnt bad, but could be cleaned better, as we found several cockroaches on the boat. The dock location where you depart is prime location.

Great staff and Melissa is a real professional. The boats got minor cosmetic damage but nothing too concerning.Guys on the dock work really hard and very specific which I like. Had an issue out on the water with a park ranger who told us to head back and Take it easy that we have damage.That turned out to be untrue but for the inconvenience the owner allowed us to have another day on the boat which was extremely nice and appreciated. I would highly recommend this company

We rented the 22 Bennington and enjoyed a day snorkeling at both Dry Rocks and the shipwreck that you pass heading out to it. We did pay in full ahead of time and then had to trust their estimate on gas usage when we returned, because the gas gauge seemed to be a little finicky. At the end of the day, we were counting our lucky stars, though, since this boat has definitely seen better days. The canopy had been ripped off by some previous renters running through some mangroves and they said a new one was on order. The interior paneling was coming loose, the captains chair had screws falling out of it and was a little loose and the worst part was that the trim stopped working half-way through our day. Luckily, we were able to get out to sea and back without any other problems though, and so all in all, we enjoyed a wonderful day of snorkeling--albeit a little stressful at times wondering if we were going to have to call for a rescue tow.

I rented online and they took my money the same day, which I thought was extremely weird and not like other boat rental places I have used in the keys. I rented the 28 ft NauticStar. The cost was almost $900 for the day and that did not include the extra $172 in gas as well. To start everytime I interacted over the phone with the people that answer the phone they would hype up the boat as I was concerned with the only 1 photo they had online. They kept saying its the Cadillac of boats and it has everything you could imagine etc etc. Well come to the week of renting I called the owner in reference to the high wind forecast and we agreed on following up 2 days later to check the forecast again. He never answered. As a group of experienced boaters we moved forward. When we checked in we were told make sure you tip us. Multiple times. The person who went over the boat had no idea how anything worked and didnt go over any of the safety features with us. He also told us the wash downs werent working either. There was a caution light for a faulty sensor that he told us to ignore. The boat was in bad shape. Cushions were tore up, they didnt snap down, it was missing the table for the front, they failed to mention the transducer fell off the day before so the sonar and depth finder didnt work, the anchor was bent and the windless system didnt work so there was no sand bar. The boat is hard to operate and list pretty bad. I mentioned this to the lady at the desk and she said she does t know anything about boats. I text the owner and again he never responded. They also failed to mention that the gas gage wasnt working properly so I basically had to trust them that the boat was full when we took it even though it read 3/4 full..Do not use this company.

I dont normally take the time to write reviews but I feel that this time its necessary. On May 11th we attempted to rent a boat from San dollar boat rental in Key Largo. The person who helped us complete the transaction was named Lee. Yes, we have the same name.. The total cost of the boat rental that day was $295.62 including my military discount. Once we took possession of the boat within 30 minutes we realized that the boat they rented us had serious mechanical problems.. For sand dollar to rent unsafe boats to the public is a crime within itself. Upon returning to their office we asked what our options were and they agreed to give us a full refund for which I have documentation of.Days later I realized the charge was still showing on my account, so I called my credit card company to dispute the charge since they gave me a receipt for the refund. On May 28 I was contacted by my credit card company stating they are disputing the dispute.. lol.How is that possible? Good question since I have documentation of the refund given in full. I will have to go through the process of uploading the receipt and waiting several days for my refund. They told my credit card company they have a 96 hour cancelation policy. Well, I rented the boat on the same day and only returned it because it was not mechanically sound.

My husband purchased this for me for my birthday back in March...the owner upgraded us to the larger boat because we brought the max people with no extra charge!! We had a great day and will def be renting from Sand Dollar again!

Exceeded my expectations. I rented the 19 foot, did the job. Would have liked a more powerful engine but I was happy. Family enjoyed it. Boat was clean. They took good care of us. Todd even helped get me to open Ocean after I went the wrong way. He called me to let me know I was tracking correctly this time. Very helpful. I will be back. Soon. I like the location.

Overall this was not a great experience. I am giving them a few stars since we had a boat for the full day for under $400 (not including gas). Rolly at the desk was pretty rude and when I asked why the mask mandate was not being followed, he only said we arent participating. I wish I had known this prior to renting from them. There was a back up to pickup the boat and we waiting in the office with a bunch of unmasked people (we had ours on) for probably 30-45 minutes. The boat they gave us seemed to be the smallest they had and was not well kept up. The GPS was not great and the radio did not work on the boat. Not much comfortable seating and a 115 HP engine left us pretty disappointed. Suffice to say we will not be renting from them again. We did not go very far (gas gage was just under full when we returned) and we were charged almost $60 for gas. I would recommend shopping around before using this company.

Rented pontoon boat. Owner and his son were very amicable and patient with all our questions. Gave us a course on the gps, and for a great price, we were able to anchor and fish and snorkel on leeward side of mangrove penisulas, where we wouldnt see another boat pass us for an hour. Then went through a channel where we heard there were manatees. Didnt see them but did see a shipwreck. What a day! Also appreciated their help docking. They made it really easy.

Business is apparently closed. Showed up on Saturday 6/5/2021 to pick up boat arranged online for 9am.. Empty building, no one around, and no answer on the listed phone. A man in the business next door said they didnt pay their rent and were evicted. Disputed payment on the credit card and waiting for resolution.

Terrible service, they cancel my boat 30 minutes before we arrived, due to service, really !!!!!which i reserved 2 weeks before, completely unreliable

Extremely disappointed with this company as they charged the full amount of the boat rental over a month prior to the trip. I contacted two staff personal in two different days over the phone and we all agreed to hold 100.00 dólares for the reservation but refund the remaining amount until the day of the trip, never got my refund back, trip scheduled for May 9 2021, still 15 days from today and in advance and nothing, don’t believe on their full refund policy 96 hours, 15 days, or a month prior to the trip. They take your money immediately after you make reservation and you’ll never see it again.

We were down in the Keys 3 weeks ago and decided to do something a little different so we rented a boat from Sand Dollar Boat Rentals. This was the best decision we could have made in the Keys. The experience was amazing and will be doing that from now on. Sand dollar gave us the Boat they promised with a brand new GPS along with the essentials we needed to make the trip perfect. We will definitely rent from them next year but for a few more days to really get the Keys Experience.

I rented pontoon for 4 days, I paid three months in advance in full. the first day they called me and told me it was too windy to go out the second day it was storms and rain so we didn’t go out. I went in on the third day to pick up the pontoon and he told me that they had cancelled my my rental, he made no reason why, he did not attempt to call me, I’d Uber’d there expecting to pick up my pontoon, they didn’t have any boats available except one pontoon for three hours, one of the pontoons had the cushions missing, one of the pontoons had tears on the cushions, two pontoons were being worked on!! my husband called back to complain, and he told him to come back and he’d smack his ball sac on my husbands head!! for obvious reasons I wouldn’t let my husband go! He gave me a refund when I pushed for a copy, The guy took my money and cancelled rental- if I hadn’t gone in there he’d never if given me my money back I think this guy is a crook!

I don’t recommend this place to anyone I place my reservation online and to know what would be my price it says that I have to call so I did for 3 days nobody answer the phone

All set for the day. Planned an entire day around renting a boat for 8 hours. 7 of us on vacation. We were going to fish and snorkel and cruise around the islands and barrier reef. We reserved the boat a month in advance. We get up early and pack the car for an exciting day on the water, we were really looking forward to it! We get there and the owner took the boat for personal use. Our plans are absolutely crushed. Whoever the owner is has more concern for himself than customers. I am incredibly upset that our day has been ruined by this selfishness. I would give negative stars if I could.Reply to owner: What good will calling do? We had to make alternate plans at the last minute. Your guy at the desk told me that you, specifically, took the boat. So, either hes lying or youre lying. Either one is not a good scenario for you. Your business wont last if this is how you take care of things. I cannot express how disappointed we were in losing our day on the water. I wouldnt do business with you if you have me a boat for free! Good news however. We found someone else who will take care of us. Real nice guy too. Your lesson for the day: take care of your customer or someone else will.

Hi. I totally agree with the comments from Sarah Ibach Stewart. No mask, rude attention and bad quality of boat (did not have the power to plane so we had to use it the whole day at idle speed). Luckily we were using it to follow a regata of kids, so it did fit the purpose. But if it was for other use it would have been a disaster

Very disappointing experience with this boat rental company. We had a half-day reservation for the Cobia boat, but the company changed our reservation to another boat, 2 ft shorter, with 115 HP motor (downgrade from 150 HP motor). The company did not call us to discuss this - we just got an Email notification about the switch, a couple hours before the reservation time. When we called to inquire about this change, the company rep was very unwilling to work with us,saying that the Key West boat will be just fine, and there’s no way they will upgrade us to a better boat, unless we want to pay more money. This company is lacking customer service. The impression we got is that they could care less if they got our business or not - they were happy to cancel, and that’s what we did. Luckily, Sunshine Watersports had a boat rental available for the same time, and they saved our day! And we got an amazing customer service to go with the boat. Will be more than happy to return to someone who goes above and beyond in customer satisfaction.

Rented a boat last weekend to take the family snorkeling. Price was VERY REASONABLE. Staff were very helpful and gave great directions to the reef. Boat was perfect for the occasion and my family LOVED spending the entire day on it. The only reason I would take a 1/2 star away would be the depth finder was not working.

Wanted to thank the owner personally for taking such good care of my family and I during our 6 day rental. Well be back again soon to do business

It’s a difficult time for the world. We decided the ultimate social distancing would be on a pontoon. These guys had us covered. They wiped down the boat in front of us to be sure we felt safe. We had a great time with Sand Dollar Boat Rentals in Key Largo. The location is perfect with easy access to bays and the pick up was very easy. The boats we very comfortable and in great condition. Will definitely use them again next time Im in the Keys

The staff was friendly and helpful. Good location coming from the mainland. We had a great day on the water and my 4 y/o got to see a wild dolphin. We had originally got the 24 Grady but it started having engine trouble about 2 miles out (being a marine mechanic myself I know it was nothing they did or didnt do, these things happen). They gave us our pick of pontoon boats and covered our fuel for the day as compensation. I would and probably will go back.

Staff was nice and easy to deal with no problems there. But the boat they rented me wasnt the boat I talked to them 2 weeks before about or the one I called and confirmed was ready 2 days before arriving at the place . I got there 9am the morning of and I heard them say something about a different boat and it wasnt the one I was wanting. When asked about that boat they said it was rented out and wouldnt be back till noon. The boat we got was clean and nice which did what we needed. That to me isnt the point. I made sure to do my part and follow up on my rental which still didnt do me any good. If it wasnt for that I most likey would a gave more stars

We had a great experience renting from key largo sand dollar! We made our plans fairly last minute and luckily were still able to rent the same day. The boat was beautiful, well maintained and they sent us off smiling! We checked out nest key, lake key and stopped for a late lunch at Chill Out. We returned at 5pm and again the clerk was great! Thanks so much, and we will definitely come again when we return to the keys.

We came to the keys for a few days with nothing planned. On Good Friday we went looking to rent a boat. One of Sand dollars boats was out for repair and just happened to come back as we were leaving to go find another boat.The Entire Staff went out of their way to get the boat ready for us so we could enjoy the day. They were super helpful and friendly. We ended up having an amazing day on the water- actually saw a herd of dolphins that came and played with us all around our boat!Huge Thanks to the guys at Sand dollar for helping us make some great memories!

We rented the big pontoon boat for the day. 5 adults and 3 children. I was chosen as the driver because Ive driven a boat about a dozen times on my life. So no Waterman, but no novice. I told the fellas renting us the boat my level of experience and what we were trying to do (find a place to anchor to swim and hang out with other family coming with their own boat). They made sure I understood where to go, how to get there and answered all my questions. The return dock requires a tight u-turn and they were right there to direct me. They made me look like I knew what I was doing. If youre a novice or amatuer and are willing to listen and communicate, these guys will help you have a great day. Thanks gentleman.

Vacationing in Key Largo and want to rent a boat I highly recommend Sand Dollar boat rental. Best price, on schedule delivery and pick up, excellent running 18 with a 90 E tech Evinrude. From when I entered the front door to when the boat was picked there was great communications and I felt like a valued customer. My wife and I had the boat for one week and had a great time. ZERO STARS!!!!Horrible experience!! When we left the property in the boat with 5 people, we were told there was a full tank of gas, which we paid $60 for(in addition to the cost to rent the boat). We had the boat from 11 to 5. After we left, we noticed the gas gage was on empty. The boat was fine for a few hours (we stopped for 2 of those 3 hours at a sandbar and used no fuel), until it seemed to run out of gas at 3:00. We could not reach ANYONE FOR 20 MINUTES AT LEAST FOR HELP!!! Finally, we got through and someone was sent to help us. He determined the boat was out of gas! We ended up getting back after 545 and lost 2 hours of the 6 we were promised. My husband calmly and nicely asked for some credit back(the RIGHT thing to do as a business owner) since we paid for 6 hours plus fuel and received 4 hours. The manager proceeded to threaten my husband by saying she was calling the police because she could not give any discount and demanded he leave the property immediately. In addition, she called a man in to have my husband removed. So, he left on his own. He then called her back to try and further discuss the situation, since it was considered a civil matter (we called the cops). She yelled at my husband for harassing her. This manager claims someone will contact us to discuss the matter. This is NOT a place I would EVER go again nor would I recommend to ANYONE. On top of it, the staff is very rude, dishonest, disorganized, and disrespectful. DO NOT USE THIS PLACE I PROMISE YOU WILL BE EXTREMELY UNHAPPY!!!!

Very friendly and honest. We got a small boat by our fault and had to head in early due to the waves being far to big for the boat. Even still was fun and the guy working there was friendly nice over all great service.

I went here with my friends and family for my brothers birthday. We have been to other boat rental places but this one was the best! Not only did we have a great experience but the staff, Todd and Richie and Melissa, were very kind and helpful. It was so great that we went back again! My brother and I saw the Jesus statue in Pennekamp which was an incredible sight to see. If you do go to this rental, you should definitely go to Pennekamp and visit the statue.

I will recommend this rental boat company at any time. I just want to say a BIG THANK YOU to Roly, Luke & all your employees for having everything ready for us. My boyfriend & I had a blast. We are looking to going back =)

I created an account on Google+ just so I could review these guys. I took my family there today to putz around on a boat. They went out of their way, above and beyond to be helpful. They loaned us fishing rods, had bait for us, and a great boat that was new and ran well. When the weather turned and we came back early we fished from the dock and they offered to let us come back tomorrow to continue. They really were terrific to work with...went out of their way to make my kids and wife feel comfortable. Thanks for turning what would have been a tough day into a great day!

Sand dollar boat rental was nice the both times I rented a boat, the only complain I have is all of the fuel gauges dont work! You basically have to guess how much fuel you have left.And the nice 26 foot open fishermen boat filled up with water! Might need to fix the pump to disperse water. My second experience there and basically no one told me hey what do you want to do today maybe suggest a nice fishing spot or a near by beach to anchor.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE.... they will rip you off with the rental (an OLD BOAT) (and then with the GAS CHARGE on the way out !! $5.39 a gallon !!!) We rented a junk boat (21 worn out Sea pro) from this place for a full day and barely used it for a few hours, first bad sign was it was full of trash from previous user, after loading up all my gear (going diving) and started the boat...engine trouble, no-water was coming from pee hole in outboard motor, they tried to fix it while we waited and waited, not a single gauge on the boat worked, VHF radio turns on but its malfunctioning. all the compartments latches on the boat are broken, at this point i should have canceled the whole thing but already had invested too much on this trip so we had to make the best of it, and they said that the engine would be fine. Midway to our way-point the GPS quit and no mechanical compass on board, thankfully still had one bar on cell so we called the office, they knew this boat had that problem and proceeded to walk me through the wires that I had to wiggle so GPS would come back on !!! another 30 min. wasted. Needless to say please Stay away.

Dont book here! They cancelled my reservation 2 days before and gave me no other options. Acted like they didnt care.Reply to owner: you didnt call me, I called you after I received an email that I was being rebooked. When I called I was told if I wanted another boat I would have to pay much more money. I understand accidents happen but so should you and as an owner you should have a plan in place for such events. Canceling on someone without any type of better alternative or compenation will never result in a happy customer.

Went to rent a boat from here the other week, but on arriving to get details and check out the boats, OMG they were awful! Torn seats, tatty appearance and generally looked like junkyard rescues. Some had new engines but that was the only thing that looked like it may work. Their charge for fuel had to be the highest around. Better options around which is what we went with.

Beautiful boats, amazing staff, and great location. 25 mins from the ocean side and 25-45 mins from islands and restaurants. Very accommodating and professional. The boats are beautiful and they let you know before you leave exactly what you need to know for your day. Would never go anywhere else but sand dollar

I went in there to ask a question about local bait and tackle and to enquire who I should speak with about parking. The two younger employees that were there were kind, but the main lady behind the desk at 12:30 on Monday Jan 7th was super rude, and short with me. Super odd that a place like this that relies on tourism for an economy would have employees that are so damn rude and short with people. I definitely won’t be shopping here.Update: I followed the rules and called the property manager and paid the $10 fee to park there so I could fish. After realizing I left a bad review, that lady complained and had the property manager kick me out of my parking spot. He did however refund me my 10 dollars. ALL of this happened because I was trying to follow the rules and pay for parking and asked someone who worked there.Jokes on her though: I caught 4 different fish AND ended up getting that parking spot for free.

DONT RENT FROM HER!!!!! The owner was nice at first. I rented the 30ft center Consel with twin 250s. They were two strokes so I wasn’t expecting the best but an all around solid boat. When we first got to the boat it mentioned that the gps was cutting out alittle. No big deal. So we took it out. And noticed more and more problems. One motor wasn’t even alone to go in reverse bc it would jump out of the water. On our way back one motor alarm went off. So we had to go 9mph back 10 miles to his dock. I rented this boat for 2 days and paid up front. I told him what happened and we lost 3-4 hours of the day to come back to dock. He then responded with I don’t feel comfortable with me and would alow me to use the boat even after he found out it was the batteries the whole time. I know he has to run a business. I have a business as whell. He should rent a boat with know problems and not even mention them. I ended up getting the boat for only one partial day and paid for both.

A bad day on the water is better than a good on land!My wife rented a full day rental through groupon with out reading the fine print where it said must reserve 7 days prior to arrival. Thats why I personally steer away from deals and coupons!! The owner accommodated us even with us showing up without a reservation. They also upgraded our boat to a nicer one which was very spacious and comfortable.Don was very helpful from the moment we met him, by the way people like him are very hard to find. After all they represent you and your company when youre not there, and as a owner you cant be there every minute. Other staff was happy and helpful as well upon our return. Being 10 min late nothing was said to us at all which tnice. Overall nice low key quiet location and good atmosphere with reasonable prices. Recommend to all boaters great time. Would visit again.

They said they will send me the reservation number over to my phone number! Never received!! Had to call them 2 day prior the arrival making sure we have the boatThe morning I was late because of the accident on US1 my friends were there already so they paid the rest so they can hang out on the boat until I arrive. My friend called me they charged him the Full $352 and change!!!We came from far so had no choice! No confirmation!Sound system is garbage!Sink was broken no fresh water!Fuel gauge didn’t work on the boat! We went to the same area as last time!First time fuel was $38Second time we put 5 gallon of fuel offshore just to be safe!! when we arrived the dock they put 18gallon of fuel $86When I was addres the difference they lowered the 18 gallon to 12Beware of this place!! Go further south u will find a better place for sure!!

Do not do business here!! We attempted to use a groupon, but what we didnt know is that with this rate you get a really old boat (ripped and dented) with limited seating. So, you are not getting a deal, just a really crappy boat. The woman at the front desk was rude and should never work with people! Go somewhere else!!

This company is a joke. The 5 star reviews have got to be fakes. We reserved a 22 foot deckboat for a 1 day rental, $485 plus fuel. We arrived to a 21 foot deckboat, filthy inside and out, with leftover trash from the previous user(s). Heres list of what was wrong with it:Very loose steering cable, steered like you drive a car in old movies, constantly turning the wheel back and forth.No SIM in the GPS so it constantly deletes any coordinates you input, and the sonar portion was broken or disconnected so no depth finder either.Fuel gauge not working (how do we know it was even full when we got it?)Tachometer not working...hope we didnt redline it!Speedometer not working...no speed limit in the Atlantic so no big deal there.Hull had multiple large scratches on the left side.I will say the motor was in good shape mechanically, and the marina is in an excellent location for getting out to the reefs.The service from the guy in the dock was professional but he lacked interest or personality, although that seems to be a thing down here in general. I was told by my buddy who handled the transaction that the guy inside basically berated him for complaining and said we shouldnt have taken the boat, which we reserved 8 weeks in advance, and which was not the size or condition of boat we reserved and paid for.Steer clear, rent elsewhere.

We arrived to a 21 foot deckboat, filthy inside and out, with leftover trash from the previous user(s). Heres list of what was wrong with it:Very loose steering cable, steered like you drive a car in old movies, constantly turning the wheel back and forth.No SIM in the GPS so it constantly deletes any coordinates you input, and the sonar portion was broken or disconnected so no depth finder either.Fuel gauge not working (how do we know it was even full when we got it?)Tachometer not working...hope we didnt redline it!Speedometer not working...no speed limit in the Atlantic so no big deal there.Hull had multiple large scratches on the left side.I will say the motor was in good shape mechanically, and the marina is in an excellent location for getting out to the reefs.The service from the guy in the dock was professional but he lacked interest or personality, although that seems to be a thing down here in general. I was told by my buddy who handled the transaction that the guy inside basically berated him for complaining and said we shouldnt have taken the boat, which we reserved 8 weeks in advance, and which was not the size or condition of boat we reserved and paid for.Steer clear, rent elsewhere.

I purchased a Groupon deal for a 2 hour jetski rental for my fiance as a gift for our wedding from Sand Dollar Charters. I called a week beforehand to reserve it, and was told they dont have jetski rentals. The person I spoke to was extremely unhelpful and acted like I did something wrong. I am really disappointed, and would not recommend a company that treats its customers that way.

Absolutely one of the worst customer service experiences EVER! So many other places to rent from that will actually include honesty and ethics.

OMG!! WARNING TO ALL! PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE ANY RENTALS FROM HERE, IN CASE YOU SAW THE NEWS THIS WEEKEND, YES THAT WAS US!! OUR BOAT CAPSIZED AND WE WERE RESCUED BY THE COAST GAURD. WE WERE GIVEN AN OLD BOAT THAT STARTED MALFUNCTIONING AN HOUR AFTER WE LEFT. PLEASE DONT NOT PURCHASE FROM HERE, FOR YOUR OWN SAFTY!!!

Joel and Don, owners are very kind, accomodating and customer friendly. 2 families for a total of 9 wanted to spend the day out on the reefs, near Key Largo area. Due to mechanical failure of the boat we reserved (this is something we understood) Don gave us a pontoon to visit the bay side for the first half of our day and we returned to get the boat he fixed the steering for the latter half of our day to the reefs, Excellent service, kindness, boats in good condition. We saw dolphins, baracuda, beaches, on bay side. Snorkeled with a nurse shark, beautiful reefs and fish. All amazing. Bring lots of water, ate lunch and snacked on the boats. Wonderful day to share a boat with another family!This rental company is under new ownership after being Pontunes and service was not good. The new ownership is perfect, adding to their fleet, good quality boats, excellent service and quality mechanichal maintenence of their boats.Ps. Location is now over by the bridge crossing into Key Largo, next to the Anchorage Resort. Easy access to both the bay and ocean.
