Very honest mechanic. Ive now been to J Abney Automotive a few different times over the past year or so. Without fail, Ive walked out feeling like I was treated with respect and J. Abney always takes the time to give me some tips on taking care of my car. This is not a chain store type of automotive repair shop. This is a local guy running a business that his father started many, many years ago. You will usually find his father sitting in a rocking chair in the front of the shop....he loves to chat with the customers. Nothing fancy about this shop...just good, honest people who will take care of your car. They have earned 100% of my future car maintenance and repair needs.

Jason and his mechanics do a great job! Weve been taking company and personal vehicles there for years. You wont find a more ethical shop to get repairs done. They always have the best price when we cost compare.

Jason Abney is a skilled and honest mechanic who works hard to do a good job to satisfy his customers at a very reasonable price. I have a 2004 Lexus which Im hoping to get a few more years of use out of but needed the check engine light turned off in order to pass an emission test for my tag. Jason quickly addressed my cars problems, and then he took the car and got my emissions test done for me! I will continue using him for all my mechanical needs and highly recommend him to others!

We have been dealing with Jason and his father for many years. They have always been honest and thorough in their diagnosis and repair. I certainly trust them over the dealer or a chain repair shop with high turnover rates. Jason keeps costs down by depending on word of mouth and repeat customers, so I always recommend this business to anyone I talk to in need of auto repair. We understand how hard it is for a small independent business to be successful these days, so we will continue to support the Abneys.

My first experience with J. Abney Automotive was great. They quickly diagnosed a suspension noise in our 13 Ford Edge and replaced the part that same afternoon & now its gone! Jason is great to deal with.

They are honest and very accurate with their diagnosis. They focus on just the domestic engines, but they have the best referrals to other places to get the job done right.

My daughter and I are from out of state and chose J Abney Automotive because my dad knew Mr. Abneys father; he assumed wed have the best chance of receiving a good deal. During the weekend my daughter discovered her right rear turn signal was not working. After my dad tried, unsuccessfully, to determine the cause he thought it would be best to get it to a shop first thing Monday since my daughter leaves for college on Friday. She began calling the business at 8:00 on Monday morning, leaving messages each time. At noon, after MANY calls by my daughter, I tried to ring the number and reached Mr. Abney. I explained that Id been calling all morning. His reply, Im slammed on Monday. I dont get around to returning calls until evening. I began by explaining the turn signal issue. Mr. Abney asked if could keep the car. I explained he could have it during the week, but she left for school on Friday. So we took the car in Monday just after noon. This morning, Thursday, being that we hadnt heard anything from the shop my daughter began calling again at 8:00 am. Unable to reach Mr. Abney by noon my dad and daughter drove across town to the shop. He hadnt fixed my daughters car. They left and by 2:15 called to state the car was ready. So we drove back across town. I dropped off my daughter to retrieve her. Upon arrival home I reviewed the Service Bill to discover, to my dismay, that we were charged $186.00 for the replacement of, not one, but two rear light bubs and sockets, an expensive oil change and an air filter. I called Mr. Abney to ask him a few questions and, to my surprise, he picked up the phone. I identified myself and the reason for the call then asked him why we were billed for an air filter ($12.75) without asking or receiving a courtesy call. He replied that he didnt call to ask on return business. I explained that this car, nor my daughter, had been into his shop before and again asked him why the service without permission. He offered to take the filter off and give us our money back if I would send her back across town. I also asked him why the charges were so high on the light sockets and bulbs. He said that her car isnt made anymore and thus he had to go to the dealership to buy the parts. He charged $100.00 to replace 2 bulb/sockets and an oil change. He charged $21.50 for a light socket with bulb and I found the same thing for less than $12.00. Mr. Abneys voiced his dismay to receive a visit from my dad to check on the car at 12:30 Thursday and said that I put him on the spot by rushing the job. Hes had the car since noon on Monday and we werent able to reach him any other way other than to drive to the shop to check status on the job. A few pieces of strategic business advice: hire a cheap receptionist to answer your phones, check out a car earlier in the week so you have ample time to obtain parts from anywhere other than the dealership because they were available, and stop charging outrageous prices for service! Dont worry... we will find someone closer to home who cares about connecting with their customers and giving the them very best service possible. Have a great day! Update 5/26/17: My dad called Mr Abney regarding a/c service. He asked who the service was for then said declined the work b/c Id left him a bad review. In response to Mr Abneys reply to my initial review. I wrote an honest review based on my experience; if you viewed that as a bad review then ask yourself how you could turn that around - if you care. IMO you had an op to turn it around and shot it down. My dad called without my knowledge or I would have nixed it bc with todays competition I dont reward bad service with repeated business.

My Dad and I have used J Abney for several years. My Dad worked as a mechanic for many years and we trust that the diagnosis and cost of repairs is fair through Abney. His shop can be rather busy and its a small operation so the only reason I give it 4 and not 5 stars is because the wait to get your car back can take a few days just because of how many people work there.
