The whole supermarket needs an overhaul ASAP. If it is not in a can or packaged elsewhere, I dont buy it. And you must check the date on everything you buy. The fruits (if not baggage) looks lifeless. They have a huge fresh fish market and deli, it never smells fresh. The fish smells old. The deli meat always looks dry. God forbid you buy any meat or poultry out of here.(Just dont)They dont accept coupons, sales are rare and the prices are high. The best thing about this store is the security guards, they are helpful. The ginger had mold on it, I told a worker and he broke the mold off and put it back on the shelf. The entire case of ginger had mold.I was done. When Im in the area, I will only go in if its an emergency to get toiletries.I was told that the hot food station is tasty but, I never had it. Im sure they are using the meat out of this store, so Ill pass.There is nothing EXTRA about this supermarket except the size of it.

So many items are over-priced in here. You pay extra and thats probably why its named Extra. Cant see how people buy cart fulls of groceries from here. Its within walking distance, but I choose to commute to a different supermarket with better quality goods and fair prices.

Idk why workers there have tip jars at each register. Makes a person feel forced to tip. It questions are they even getting paid minimum wage??An the meats always warm. I stopped buying meat there when someone told me meat comes from a regular truck non refrigerated. So the warm meat stocked makes sense now.

The seafood stand in this supermarket is expensive. Always look to spend a little extra at this supermarket. I guess that is why the name is Extra Supermaket.

I like this extra, its one of the better ones, however in the meat department they do not clean those cutting machines which can get quite filthy unless you ask them... they will cut meat after cutting pork and wont clean the machines then get mad when you ask them to do it. I had to go to the manager...

Its okay for quick shopping. Prices are high if you compare it to other supermarkets.The quality of steaks are iffy. You wont find any good cuts of steak.Chicken is abundant. No Perdue or Tyson branded products.Overall just go here if youre looking for soemthing small and quick.

Great to have a big supermarket where there was none in the area. Good selection of fresh produce and the prepared foods cooked inside are very good.

Best prices on groceries in the area. You can also find all your cultural foods as well.I buy all my Jamaican food here and all my meats. Check in for the sales, they update it weekly. And the best time to shop is in the morning; since its popular it will get crowded.

Xtra is always my first choice of grocery stores when its time to grocery shop. But the aisles for the stores stock is always crowded with customers and staff stocking the shelf. But the choices and prices are fantastic! Wish there were more cashier staff available, always a long line to pay. But if you ever need car services theres always friendly gentlemen outside to help.

Shop at Extra esp6during the holidays. They seem to be the only grocery store I can find nice size sweet potatoes. Im able to find everything I need. Love the deli meats.

Very good price for groceries

This is late but I must give belated props to Extra. Called all over Hudson County for butchers or markets looking for whole goose in the weeks before Christmas and my jaw hit the ground when I saw a freezer stocked to the top with them when shopping for other things. Judging by how few are left now I wasnt the only one.

WARNING..Do not get produce, milk or chicken from here. The fruit is no good, the milk spoils way before expiration & the chicken gave me salmonella. Safe things are non perishable stuff like canned goods, cereal & bread is cool. Just move with caution in there smh

Prices might not be Walmart-cheap, but the location is convenient. On the plus side, they have almost everything and also, Caribbean/South American products too! Pay them a visit today!

This place in overpriced and doesnt have healthy food options. I find this very strange, I would have though the prices here would be cheaper than grocery stores in downtown JC. It seems they are ripping off the community in West Bergen and taking advantage of the fact that they are the only major supermarket in this area. I would think there would be regulations against this kind of stuff? The one thing I do like is that they have food products for different ethnicities available. Ive stopped my regular shopping at Extra and only go there if I need to do some quick shopping.

Food court was delicious and I like that they have a lot of products not found at Shop Rite or Acme.

Its a decent shopping place. The hot food part is really good as well as the cold sandwiches for only 5.99 as a meal combo. They definitely keep there shelves completely stocked.

IF YOU WANT EXPIRED FOOD COME TO EXTRA SUPERMARKET!The supermarket is very expensive and overpriced. I can find fresher organic foods at Whole Foods for less which is insane for purchasing Mediocre food. This establishment is taking advantage of this low income community with such high prices. The other locations are much cheaper. There is no selection of organic food everything is GMO and full of chemical. One green pepper is like 4$.Every time I’ve shopped at this location I would bring home expired food. The dates on the shelf need to be checked. I also ordered fish from the meat section and I took home a bad fish with a big rotten hole. This establishment needs a health inspector . I find the employees at this location to lack basic product knowledge and customer service, for example asking an employee where items are, employees will respond with “I don’t know” which is shocking because I don’t work there so who could I possibly ask for assistance.Employees don’t wear proper sanitary gear for the pandemic and wear the same nasty gloves their entire shift and touch all your groceries.

Have to return items from here quite often. Just recently I had to return a box of Nibisco Graham Cookies because of staleness. A lot of items are out dated or no expiration date listed. Pricey grocery store with lousy merchandise.

Im a frequent visitor of Extra Supermarket and I find this place the most suitable for purchasing grocery and other things.I love the way everything is so organized and well maintained. Moreover, the staff is always ready to help you find whatever you want.This probably serves as the top-most reason for me liking this place.

You can find foods from different countries and at reasonable prices.

One of my favorite stores to shop in, as they have foods and products from all over the world. Large and affordable produce selection with lots of harder to find produce such as bitter oranges, raw tumeric, aloe, star fruit, etc. Their meats are fresh and fairly priced. Also a great store for spiritual needs as I get many of my spiritual supplies from here as well. Very helpful staff, lots of fast cashiers, the store is brightly lit and clean, and they handle large crowds really well. I never spend a ridiculous amount of time online unless its a holiday and even then never more than 10 minutes. Highly recommend as one of the best ethnic and multicultural grocers in town. Its a jewel in jersey city.

Please don’t buy meat from this place. It’s all old and expired I thought after a few months they would stop serving old meat but I guess they don’t care. Better off going to Walmart to get fresh meat. I even told someone that works their the meat is old no reason why we are in October but I see labels from August on the meat!! Stay safe and don’t eat from here

This place is awesome. Best way to find thing are by yourself. Workers are to cramped trying to multitask and train each other. No professionalism. But other wise prices are great for the groceries. They also have snow crabs. They steam them and shrimps as well for the seafood eaters. Those who work in the area the also sell cooked food. Mini restaurant when you enter.

Decent neighborhood supermarket that has all the basics and a few ethnic food additions that makes it a good place for a quick restock of your fridge and pantry. Not necessarily my go to spot for the best sales or best products. But they will definitely do in a pinch, for staples, and on occasion have amazing sales on my favorite Latin must-haves.

I havent been in Extra for quite some time and Ive seen some tremendous improvements. The store is much cleaner, more organized than my last visit.
