When you arrive at the store, people greet you with a big smile. The clerks are very friendly, they advise you well on what cheese to buy, the store is very clean, their products are excellent and at very good prices. They are my favorite cheese shop. They are wonderful and have a 100!

Very knowledgeable cheese mongers. I love stopping in and seeing whats in their lonely leftover cheese bin. Right now only 3 people in the store at a time. But it moves pretty fast!

I didnt know there where this many cheeses available locally 😳The quality is amazing, the variety is excellent and the condiments for sale are so unique and cool.But what really knocked my socks off was the homemade duck grill cheese sandwich with cherry compote. They serve it with gerkin pickles on the side, and you need that acidity to cut through the cheesiness, its the best grilled cheese Ive ever had in my life.Also, if you dont want to ruin your whole life, dont buy the fresh made riccota cheese they have, because you realize that the stuff in the supermarket is just fake plastic.

The staff here has never rushed me to decide which is very much appreciated.A nice, cozy, convenient and polite addition to the neighborhood. I say they should bake in house bread as well on daily basis. The smell of fresh bread travels a distance. Always been satisfied doing cheese and meat groceries here. A neighborhood gem.

The people that work here are awesome and the cheese is amazing. I love being able to come in and tell them how many people we have, the feel we want to create and they always put together the perfect cheese plate for us. The grilled cheese is on point to for a quick lunch.

This is THE place to buy really good cheese, especially European cheese (they also have American ofc). Great selection! We come every weekend to buy our cheese supply for the week. Staff is awesome, too, very helpful and knowledgeable, always friendly.

Fantastic cheese shop. However, the owners should reconfigure the store pivot the cheese counter so that it faces the front window and shrink the amount of shopping area down to about 150 ft.² inside of the store. Requires the customers to go to deep into a narrow space in order to really sample their main product. Tightening up the front just play keeping it cozy and hopefully making it seem a little more full of customers and I think their business would increase by 30%. Just three of us you can take it or leave it wish you guys the best

Nice selection of cheese and friendly staff. I went in last week for my first visit. Not knowing what to order, I asked the opinions from the staff. They gave helpful tips as well as a brief intro to various types of cheese. I was told their Prairie Breeze was best to go for the Grilled Cheese sandwich.I ended up buying the small samples (in the refrigerator) of four types of cheese. I asked them for ways to eat those cheese when I paid for them, and it turned out great. I will be back and try their Brie and Prairie Breeze the next time. The ones I bought as of now:Beemster 18 month. It is a cheddar cheese that has some savory start, but smooth, milky and a tinny little bit of sweetness at the end when pairing with bread.Schlossberger Alt: a denser cheese. It does have much sweetness or milky flavour, rather it is of a dense and complex yet smooth savory taste towards it. I paired it with Trader Joes 3 seeds sweet potato crackers for a balance.

This is the most perfect little cheese shop. Not only do they have an incredibly vast and unique selection of high-quality cheeses, all their other products are thoughtfully curated. They do their best to source local, artisanal products like jams, cured meats, cocktail bitters, candles, etc. Also, they have a wonderfully helpful staff that always takes the time to help you select the best products for your needs (and let you try before you buy!). The two young gentlemen who are usually working there offer truly exceptional customer service.

A great new cheese shop with a really good selection. Having moved from Europe, we thought we might never find a really good cheese shop close to home, but this fits the bill perfectly, with a selection of American and European cheeses. Would recommend.

What a great little shop! The owner Carl is very knowledgeable and takes time to speak with every customer and answer questions and make recommendations. His staff is friendly and always helpful. Ive been there several times and always looking for ideas of what to get. Not only do they let me sample everything before I buy it they also go out of their way to understand what Im looking for i.e., if its an event or a party or just for home. Couldnt be happier to have this great shop within walking distance from home. They also have a good grocery selection and now that the weather is nicer they have the tables out front where we can sit and order cheese plates and bring a bottle of wine. They provide wine glasses and make the whole experience delightful. I also learned theyre at the Grove Street Farmers Market which makes it very convenient for me to pick up some things on the way home from the City. I could not recommend Van Hook Cheese & Grocery more highly. I tell all my friends and neighbors to go by and check it out. My new favorite spot!

More cheese please- now I get a new one to try every couple weeks. This weekend its the Italian piave paired with a hot soppressata from Brooklyn. Best place in town to get hot sauce, bean-to-bar chocolate, and locally made ice cream to go. Not to mention olives, crackers, and other gourmet items. Carl and the staff are as helpful and friendly as it gets!
