I found this mechanic via google maps trying to find a good local mechanic to work on my car. All of the reviews for the most part were postive so I said I will give them a shot. Im glad I listened to the reviews because this place was great. Good communication, good prices and good work. Lets not forget very convenient! Literally a 5 minute walk from my place. If you are in the Journal Square/Jersey City area and in need of a mechanic, I recommend this place.

Buyer beware: he can get very busy at times, and it takes longer during those busy times.This guy is cheap, honest, and willing to do dirty repairs with spare parts to save you money; adjust your expectations accordingly.If you can wait a few days, and just want your car to run again for the least amount of money, then try this guy.If you want the standard mechanic who needs to order your exact part from the dealer, or if you need your car back ASAP, try another spot.

Edgar is a good mechanic. You bring him your car and the work gets done and is done right. They have a busy shop so you cannot be sure how long it will take but versus the big corporate shops his prices are comparable or lower and he is a better mechanic than those shops tend to have.

This is a while back, but we had our strut and coil spring replaced for a thousand dollars while we were traveling on the road, turns out they didn’t diagnose it right, it’s a brake caliper seize, I guess it felt fair at the time since I know nothing about car maintenance back then.(Plus our other car got broken into right in front of the shop, no insinuation, just not a great experience).

My kinda place. They level with you and have fair prices. Perfect for someone like me who owns an older car and doesnt plan on getting a new one anytime soon :)

It should be 0 stars!I bought 1 of the cars from his lot & it was the worse car I ever bought. I was there every other month with the same problem🤬! Every time he would fix it, it would just be ok for a month! I got tired of bring it to him so I finally took it to the dealer to see if they can fix it.. Come to find out that he was charging me for new parts but was putting in used parts😡!! Thats not it!! I also had another car that I would bring to him come to found out that he was putting in the wrong parts(he was rewiring to make it work)!! I always wondered why some times I didnt get a receipt or I would get a receipt that wasnt itemized.. MAKE SURE TO DOUBLE CHECK HIS WORK & ASK HIM WHATS THE NAME BRAND OF THE PART HE PUT IN & MAKE SURE HE PUTS ALL THAT ON THE RECEIPT!! SO IF HE WORKED ON YOUR CAR & IT STOPPED WORKING DAYS AFTER YOU LEFT THE SHOP CHECK THE PART HE PUT IN!! MAKE SURE ITS NOT USED OR MAKE SURE HE DIDNT TWEAK SOMETHING FOR IT TO WORK.

They have fixed my car several times and honestly I have been satisfied with their services until recently theyve changed how they treat loyal customers, no quality service anymore, theyve done away with consistency of good quality service and instead embraced exploitative behavior, so disappointing, trying to find new shop where Ill be fixing my car.

Ive been going here for at least 10 years,and the Edgar and his son have ALWAYS been honest, and dont play around with your car, they do great work, and the price is fantastic, I even brought my car from them.

I am picky about mechanics in Jersey because most have jacked up prices, so I came because of the positive reviews and it is very close to transportation at Journal Square. I am glad I did.I had my own parts and just needed the labor to get my brake pads changed ($80), front rotors replaced ($50), and door handle replaced ($50). The prices arent as low as Bronx prices but close enough and very reasonable. Edgar and his son were very honest in their evaluations and pricing and openly admitted they werent experienced at exhaust and recommended I do that work elsewhere. They actually even did one minor repair for free since it only took a few minutes.Fair and good pricing convenient location, polite and nice staff. This is my new go to local mechanic, I highly recommend.Ps: I had such a good experience that I came back with drinks for them (non-alcoholic though so they dont ruin the next guys repair lol)

Great service. The mechanic even showed me the replaced rotors and brake pads and explained why they had to be replaced. That is something very few mechanics do.

Dont go here, the guys dont know what they are doing and will overcharge you. They overcharged me for parts and labor even though my car was never fixed, had to tow my car to another mechanic, was out 600$ down the drain.

Was it expensive and useless getting my car set up to pass the NJ sticker test. Yes. Did these guys make that possible for me for hundreds cheaper than every other shop in the area within 50 miles. Yes. They are great guys, nice family business and pretty much where I will go for the next 5 years. (living here for a few years) but they are truly a great outfit and coming from a family of mechanics myself Im always happy to find decent ones out there.UPDATE 1. Ive since taken them to redo my brakes, calipers and rotors that were needed. It was the best price Ive ever paid and thats having lived in Michigan, Los Angeles and Chicago.UPDATE 2. I had a stripped oil pan, its been that way for eons and I got the larger screw that goes in and rethreads the pan so that you dont have to pay $700+++ for a new pan and screw. No one has ever seen a problem with changing the oil as is before, however I went to a few places that have a nicer set up and lobby with a TV thinking that it would be a better service and a Hoyos has better things to do (anything mechanical I will go to Hoyos until I move further than 100 miles away from them) each place I went to warned me in that attempt to be scary manner that mechanics often have, that if I leave now, and dont give them $700+++ for a service I dont need my car might blow up and I might die and if there is a baby hedgehog on board he or she or it will burn to death along side me. So, I should just hand them my money right. No, none of that. I drank those threats down with a big glass of nope and called Hoyos to see if I could come in. I started to explain the threaded screw situation and all I got was a puzzle nod like Im an fool that fell for other places scare tactics. They checked everything out and gave me my car back happy as can be. Everything checked, everything running perfectly. I think it was between $50-$80 for a full synthetic checkup and everything was checked out. When they didnt try to upsell anything I started saying are you sure it doesnt need a trasnmission flush, no new wiper blades or air filter. I dont need a serpentine belt? They just shrugged and said no, we checked everything out and everything is good.So, again, stick with these guys for everything.
