I have been getting guitars worked on, set up and hardware added to for a little over 20 years and the top choice for such work is always Chip. He is very knowledgeable and friendly. Do not go get shoddy work with cheap parts at Guitar Center. Come support a local business that I guarantee does quality work!
Chips a badass. Very reasonable in price and possibly the most knowledgeable in town. My expensive fender acoustic was a gonner and i was told itd cost $220+ to fix the preamp at another shop but chip told me where find it for $20 on ebay and he installed it for $25
I brought in an antique Gibson L-50 that has been in my family for generations for a repair. From the moment I walked in the door, I knew it was in good hands. Chip is incredibly knowledgeable in all things guitars and was able to quickly identify the era and model of the guitar and shared some of the histories of the guitar which was very cool. I just picked up the guitar after a few days it took to repair and to say I am pleased is an understatement. The fretboard is absolutely flawless and the amount of TLC put into the repair is obvious. The action on the guitar has it playing better than ever before. If you are in need of a repair, look no further than to Chip as you will not find better quality and value.
Chips Music is the best! Chip just refinish my guitar frets and as usual the work is excellent. Thanks much Chip and team!
Terrific work from amazing people. Chip seems to know everything about guitars and what makes them work. All repairs, strings and things. Guitars for sale. Lessons from Jimmy. They are all the best.
Chips expertise in guitars exceeds that of any other store in Jacksonville. Chip explained each step of the guitar setup process as he worked. I left with my guitar configured to my liking, and with a deeper understanding of its components. I will never go to a chain store for guitar maintenance again. With cheaper prices and expert knowledge found nowhere else in Jax, Chips Music is the place to go.
Professional, knowledgeable, and a mainstay for all jax music repair/sales . Chip is sought after for all my music needs. Same day service is amazing, reasonable, personable. Enjoy the atmosphere whenever I come by with my bass. Cleaning/strings/set up/special order items. You know when its done right! Its done by Chip.....
This guy’s a wizard! Did a fret dressing and setup on my ‘95 strat... it’s like new. He’s also done wood work on a crack in one of my favorite acoustic guitars. If you need anything done to one of your favorite instruments, don’t let anyone touch it besides Chip!
I took my guitar to have strings switched out and I was told my guitar had never been set up. Ive had it for 2 years but now with the stay at home I decided to learn to play. Chip explained what setting it up entailed and I told him to go for it. He did an outstanding job and I had my guitar back the same day. I will definitely go back there for my guitar needs
Brought in my old Yamaha FG300. Chip did a great job on the setup and fret dressing. Nice guy friendly place
I recently had the pleasure to meet the owner chip. I needed a Fender Twin amp worked on. I had recently purchased it from a big box store used and it needed lots of attention. I got it back days later with new valves as the amp was missing all but two. The amp is like new again all the switches were cleaned and lubed not a crackle or pop to be heard. I was so impressed with the speed of service, cost and knowledge of Chip that I took my Telecaster in to be set up. Chip is the expert. Nashville wiring. Ashtray bridge and brass saddles were installed. Tone capacitor installed and the nut worked on, intonation set. It now plays like a dream. Can’t thank Chip enough his work completely changed my guitar and amp making them much more pleasurable to play. Everything was done professionally and in a timely manner and at a more than reasonable cost. If I ever need work done or parts this is the only place I would go from now on. Can’t say enough about this business
Chip helped us out with an impossible last minute Christmas gift. Great guy and great customer service
A few weeks after taking my guitar to Chips it began to redevelop the buzz I was trying to get rid of.I called and informed him of the problem and he reminded me of the warranty that comes with the service I paid for, and reassured me that he could fix the problem.Today my guitar sounds better than it ever has thanks to Chip.Honesty and integrity are hard to come by when taking instruments in for small repairs. I took my guitar to two other places before I took it to Chips. One place told me there was nothing more I could do to it. The other wanted to charge me double what I was charged by Chip.If youre reading the reviews for this shop its not by coincidence; this is fate!Give your instrument over to the care of Chip.I truly believe that you wont regret it!
Took my guitar in to reglue the bridge, they didnt remove the bridge to reglue it, they just stuck some glue under either end, and of course it came up again. I took it back, asked Chip to do it properly, they did the same thing to it and it pulled up again a couple days later. I finally took it to Dales and he removed the bridge and glued it properly and its been absolutely fine for months now. Lesson learned. I take all my work to Dale now.
Great experience. Fixed my guitar same day at a very reasonable price. Staff is super knowledgable. Highly recommend.
Chips is a great place to go to get your guitar setup and just for everything else. My setup is great on my evh Guitar. And I recommend going to chips before anywhere else.
For about 20 years I have been going to Chips. from appraisal, to I need this fixed so I can play tonight. He has been setting up, fixing, and correcting my mistakes forever. Hope I retire before he does. Only place I will go to for service in North East Floida. Going to day for straps gig bags and patch cords. oh by the way he guarantees his cables and work, and stands behind it. Best guitar and bass store in Florida.
Chip just finished a fret dressing on my Taylor. He did an excellent job and I highly recommend him for any guitar work. Thanks Chip!
What a wonderful experience! I brought my vintage stratocaster into Chip for a complete overhaul (new pickups, electronics, set up, fret dressing). Not only does it play and sound better than it has in decades, Chip completed it the same day I brought it in. I read good reviews of Chips work, but I was so pleased away by his professionalism and the quality of his work. Not only that, he is just a genuinely great guy. We talked about guitars and amps, and he blew me away with his knowledge and passion for what he does. Chip has earned a customer for life. If you have any instrument or amplifier repair needs, I cannot recommend Chips Music highly enough - phenomenal work, and an even more phenomenal guy.
In for just a little tune-up on the old Strat. Chip fixed a little fret buzz and deadness I was having with the D-string.Always good service and/or conversation with Chip, Jim, Mike, or Jimmy! Thanks, fellows!!
As always, Chip saves the day! Highly recommend his services! Great work and great guy. Thanks Chip!
Very nice people. I feel very welcomed and happy at his shop. He can fix anything and is just so great and a much more reliable source that guitar center. He taught me how to string an acoustic guitar and he even cleaned my guitar and it looks brand new! I highly reccomend going to his shop over guitar center because he actually knows what hes doing.
Moved from NJ Was recommended by a really well known local Had a new Telecater that came from factory Horrible ! Almost sent it back Quick excellent service & very reasonable ! Taking my Taylor in next for warranty work 👍👍👍
What can I say, when it comes to guitars hes a magicianBest in town
Chip is a wealth of knowledge and a true professional when it comes to any type of maintenance or refurbishment on guitars. I have been to his shop countless times for repairs and recently had my brand new Martin 000-15M fitted with an L.R. Baggs pickup. Chip is the only man other than myself that I would trust to do any type of maintenance on my guitars and with no surprise the job was more than superb and completed within only a few days. Chip is a Jacksonville legend and If you are in need of any type of maintenance, guitar products, or have any questions, Chip is the man to see.
Just plain awesome. Chip is a super guy, and he does professional work. It’s nice to have this resource in Jax, for working musicians and amateurs alike.
Had a guitar build and it came out perfect.
Very Knowledgeable and Friendly. Its not a big place but will beat any other music store.
I own a local pawn shop and was unsure about the authenticity of a guitar that I was about to pawn. I called Chips music for help and they went above and beyond to help me. Unfortunately the guitar was not real but the service we received was priceless.
Wouldnt take my gear anywhere else! Chips been doing it over 20 years and is a wealth of knowledge. Love the old school charm of his shop too.
Let me tell u something, Chip is the most accommodating business man Ive ever dealt with. Im in his shop now (4th total visit ever) and every time I come in to get my guitar restrung he jumps on it immediately and takes full pride in what he does. He loves all things guitars and it shows in his work. Bring ur business this way. Youll be impressed.
These are the only guys I trust to setup or repair my 8 string guitars (or any of my instruments for that matter) in Jacksonville! They get it right every time! Very friendly and helpful people that are open minded to all styles of music.
Chip is amazing! This guy can make a decent instrument sing like a meadow lark! Took my MIM Fender Jazz to him. Dude has magic hands. Sounds as good as any American I have played. Solid honest guy. Wish there were more businesses like this in Jacksonville. Wisest amount of money I have ever spent on a musical instrument in my life! So affordable for what you get. So glad I took my friends recommendations. Posted the same review on Facebook.
Ive taken all my guitars to Chip. Hes passionate about guitars and really knows his stuff. Every time I go into his store I end up learning more! He is the only shop in Jacksonville (or even north FL for that matter) that can do repair work that most stores turn away. Ive had him set up and repair everything from a Squire Start to a Martin D-41. As far as equipment goes...he mainly just has consignment stuff and unique older guitars.I really wouldnt recommend anywhere else in Jax to setup or repair a guitar. Trust me, the other people/shops are either flakey or have no experience. Chip is honest and will do a great job.PS. He can usually setup a guitar on the spot if youre there when he opens up. If not his turn around time is quick (especially if you pay up front).
I have dealt with many guitar shops and repair techs over the span of 40 years living in the southeast. Chip is by far the most genuine, honest and knowledgeable I have had the pleasure of doing business with ! AAA +++
Amazing service and great conversation! Chip knows what he’s doing!
I read the other review on here and its absolutely right. Guitar center repair man is rude, these guys at this shop are perfect. Thier Friendly and dont charge you money for something you dont need.
Thank you Chip for healing a broken marriage between my Strat and me. We are getting along much better after new pick up installation and professional set up. Im not saying it was all her fault. Im partially to blame. First the Les Paul and then the PRS. But now, I only have eyes for her!
Awesome work, and awesome spirit. Highly recommend.
I have always found Chip to be honest, friendly, dependable and easy on the wallet. His repair work is first class
Which guitar should I talk about? Could be my 66 Fender P Bass and the way Chip cleaned it up, got the action nice and low so that it plays like a dream and is far, far too good for me. Not to mention that he wisely guided me away from the coveted but too-much-strain-for-the-ol-gal La Bella Deep Talkin James Jamerson (really) flat wound strings toward the less strenuous-but-equally-great-sounding Roto Sounds; proving that his advice and always-ready-to-share wisdom is as valuable as his workmanship.Or theres the two, not in the least bit distinguished yard sale acoustic guitars - a Yamaha F310 that I picked up for $20 and a Stagg Western Acoustic that I stole for a truly embarrassing $7 - that, after Chips set up, play far above their pay scale.Lets focus, instead, on Chips most recent wonder work: My 1950s era (probably 54) Harmony Archtop F hole acoustic that I got for $110, but needed a lot of TLC to get all the notes sounding true. Chip may have torn a ligament in his shoulder grinding the frets down and cleaning up the fret board, but that didnt stop him from moving the true notes from about the 7th fret all the way up to at least the 14th! A true miracle job. He also did some adjustments to the wooden bridge, undoing some past bad workmanship, to get the action so low that its just this side of illegal (with minimal buzz, and then only when you play it harder than a lady this old should be handled). All of this for very reasonable prices ($45 set up, $75 fret clean up), better than timely delivery (in most cases, about a day), a smile and great conversation. Im not just being humble when I say that Chips craftsmanship is far better than my playing will ever be. But he puts into my hands instruments that make me want to try harder. He is a Jacksonville treasure and one of a dying breed who takes pride in their work and offers their craft at a fair price. It does not get any better.
Very helpful folks
Friendly and fair! Chip earned my business
Chips is great!
Honest and professional
Ive been taking my guitar to Chips Music for over 13 years now.Everyone employed there are consumateprofessionals!
