I usually don’t leave food reviews but I just cannot! Where should I start, The ribs are good and barbecue sauce is good. The beef is as dry and tough as it looks. I asked the young lady at the counter (who was unfriendly... customer service is bad) if the beans were sweet, she said yes.. They are not! I wasted my money.My grandmother said her ribs were ok, so maybe they just cant do beef.. I dont know, but I have to now go buy something else to eat.
Really craving BBQ and Sonnys was halfway across town so I went here. It was pricier than Sonnys, had smaller portions and the food was very tasteless. The ribs were very dry and tough while the sides (corn on the cob and mac & cheese) were bland. Best part of the meal was the sweet bbq sauce on the side that made the ribs a bit more palatable. Worth the time to go elsewhere. Ate it only because I hate wasting food and money and I paid $18 for my sad dinner.
Ribs were good, nice meat and well cooked. Beans were also very good so we’re the corn nuggets. Overall it was a 8.8. Come check it out!
Just left with a take-out from the restaurant and all I could say was that I hoped the food was as good as the customer service. They dont have enough stars to rate it. Got home and enjoyed everything...cole slaw to die for, baked beans, mac & cheese, and fried okra (OMG). Wasnt a fan of the ribs so I will try the chicken the next time

Mac and cheese was overcooked in a soggy got the ribs while they were fall off the bone and tinder they had no flavor if it wasnt for dipping it in barbecue sauce I wouldnt have tasted any flavor in them. The ribs are also overcooked in half of them almost burnt
Minimum rating due to there being a rating for zero. My little sister was an employee at this establishment, and just found out she was pregnant. a customer became irate and followed her out to her car and tried to jump her. The owner, Sam, was present at the time and did nothing about it. This happened after a man was hiding in the bushes behind the building waiting to jump another employee. 08/25/2021
I ordered a 3 meat salad and the salad was not fresh at all. It was brown at the bottom of the tray. I called to complain and wasn’t asking for a refund. The manager was very rude on the phone. I most definitely want be back.

Its edible but thats about it. The brisket or beef as they call it is extremely dry and flavorless, and it tastes like all their meat is boiled. The sandwichs are served on Texas Toast which they dont mention, but charge $1 to be put on a bun. The pulled pork is also very dry & the ribs have no flavor. The sides are mediocre at best. The chicken is probably the best meat they have, but it depends on whos cooking that day. The service is also lackluster, except for the nice lady who hands you your food. The sweet & spicy bbq sauce may be the only thing that gets 5 stars.

IF I COULD GIVE THEM ZERO STARS I WOULD!!!!!! I ordered through Ubereats when the food got here I was missing 2 items, a fried pickle order and a chicken platter order. I called the restaurant and they literally DID NOTHING to solve the problem. They argued that I was missing items, then said I didnt order, so I said I would take a picture of my order and send it to them. They said well you can come pick it up if you want it. Literally the worst customer service I have received in Jacksonville. You mess up my order then tell me to fix the problem. On top of that the food isnt even good, no flavor and over cooked brisket. DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!Side note their food look good in the picture but was nothing like that. Also no condiments for the baked potato, just a potato in a box smh. Its been an hour and I still cant get over the way this situation was handled and how disappointing the food was.
It was good but a little pricey. I spent like $23 on the food and a fountian tea everything was fast and good but a couple more ribs for the dough would of been good.
It has been three years since I have been here last. I was looking forward to a BBQ dinner with my son. Unfortunately things havent changed. We placed our orders and proceeded to sit down, were served rather quickly. Upon sitting it was evident nothing much has changed, the table was sticky and the sauce bottles were disgustingly dirty. Then it came to tasting the brisket sandwich, the base flavor of the meat was flavorless and dry, clearly over done. Reaching for the sauce bottle to put some moisture back into this meat. The sauce bottles could have used a good cleaning. Leaving this place for the last time. It took 3 years to try this place again, I wont be back.

Ribs are really good. But the sweet bbq sauce is off the hook. Reminds me of the bbq sauce that my grandfather used to make. Love it.

From ordering to pickup, customer service was terrible. I thought well hopefully the bbq is really good, it wasnt. It was edible at best. The Pig has bigger and better ribs. Bonos has better bbq fries. Sonnys has better egg rolls. The corn nuggets were dry. Their bbq sauce tastes like kc masterpiece. The sweet tea was good though. Will not visit here again.
Fix you doordash to refect your menu and I will change my review. false advertising is putting it lightly.

Very good dinner experience! Ordered a few slabs and the 14oz steak. Both were really good. Sides were the cole slaw, green beans, mac & cheese, collard greens, and potato salad. The collards could have used a few more seasoning but overall I will definitely be back.

They used to be good. They changed management/ownership. They gave me old rewarmed ribs the last 2 times I went. They dont care anymore and Im done....
1st time and didnt enjoy anything. Pork chops fried in old grease, pulled pork had no seasoning. It didnt taste smoked. Campbells pork & beans with onions and black pepper. Just bad, bad, bad. Will never go back.
They were having register issues and the staff did a great job of working through it. Wish I could say the same for the customers, some people just need to relax and go with the flow. The food was typical strip mall bar-be-que. Decent, but nothing special. Had the pulled pork sandwich and mac and cheese. Pork was cold, but had a good flavor. The sauces added nothing to it, a little spice would have helped. The mac and cheese was very good. The atmosphere was what one would expect from the strip mall location. All things being equal, I will eat here again next time I am in this part of Jacksonville.

Every single time I’m here there service is excellent and food is delicious... every time! They’re like the Chick-fil-A of BBQ or something. We got the Family chicken feast which feeds my fam of 5 with plenty leftovers each time. Definitely a repeat customer. Call ahead because the smell while you wait will drive you to buy more dessert like I always do lol

I am in love with the fully loaded baked potatoes & their brownies. The BBQ is tender & well seasoned. Also the 2 cashiers I always see (Tiana & Thursday) are so sweet. I truly enjoy eating here 😊😊

They boil their meat and toooooo much fat on the ribs and they dont remove the membrane from the ribs

Very good BBQ restaurant with friendly staff. Well worth the trip to the Northside. The pulled pork is the best in town. Its very tender, well seasoned and really dont need sauce. An old time atmosphere when you dine in. You would probably expect to pay twice as much as they charge for your meal.

Sold around a year ago.They swear recipes are the same. NEVER did the collard greens taste like a vat of Old Bay before.They catered our wedding and we stayed true blue. No longer the case sadly. Food is nothing like it used to be. Sorry but the new owners appear to slowly be tanking the place.Missing the real Big Oak BBQ
So far so good. Portions are always large. Prices are competitive. Our bill tonight was $65 thats for a family of 5 with extra sides and an order of fried green tomatoes. Weve eaten here 4-5 times in the past month or so after discovering this spot. So far my favorite in Jacksonville.
I ordered 2 whole chickens from this place they was suppose to charge me 23 dollars instead they took 28 dollars from my account and when confronted they said I was lying and I have proof I will never eat there again .
Sam the owner is awesome. We placed a large order for a Christmas luncheon. They do not open until 11 a.m. and they had our food ready before the doors opened. Very friendly brought everything out and put it inside my car for me. The food is fantastic. This is my second time using theyre catering. You will not be disappointed
The loaded potatoes was a hit at this place for me until they began to cook baking potatoes in the microwave. The texture is poor afterwards which takes away quality. They are no longer appealing and I will probably not buy another. Also the fried tomatoes are smushy...dont waste your money. I try to support the business often so I hope improvements are made soon.

Decided to check this place out based on the good reviews. Well the food lived up to the hype! Good sized portions of tender, smokey meats. The sides were great too and the service was fast and friendly. This place will definitely be my go-to stop for BBQ on the Northside!
I am a connoisseur of BBQ, as any Southern Gentlemen can say, and have been for decades. I’ve enjoyed it from Texas to Iraq. (BBQ Beef T-Rations aren’t bad at all. I was just as surprised as you can imagine!). That said, none of it holds a candle to our local place. Chefs salad with your choice of meat, two meat combo dinners, whatever you like, you won’t be disappointed. Let me revise that. You might be disappointed if they have already run out of turkey. You will DEFINITELY be disappointed if you don’t live close enough to make this a regular dinner spot.
I enjoy going there to get their BBQ salad it is great. It takes me two days to eat it. I cant get enough. I got my husband hooked on it. Now he wants it all the time. We love it.
This place is not worth returning to. First off let’s start with the desserts, the chocolate chip cookie was burnt crumbled and the brownie lacked flavor and texture. I ordered the pull pork sandwich with fries. The fries were cooked in old oil so the taste was old too and the meat was okay...just okay. First and last time I eat here.

We ordered thru Grubhub and we were blown away 🤤 I got the chicken tenders and fried okra and ate it all and my roomie got the whole chicken and nearly ate all of it. We’re making broth with the bones now fr. Oh, and the southern egg roll was omg good I’ll get 3 next time

My brothers and I have roadtripped new york to florida and the reverse around three times. The first trip we stumbled upon big oak bbq, and it was an amazing discovery. The wing sauce is so flavorful, this place is a must go. It was so good that I kept the wings for the whole 3 day journey, they made it back to my fridge back in new york. Staff was sweet too.
OMG! I think theres new management?! I called in Brunswick Stew for take-out and was told that it would be ready in 5 min. On the way I get a call saying it would be 30 min. So I waited 45 min and when I got there it turned into 1 hr & 15 min and the stew had no meat?! Who makes Brunswick Stew without meat? This used to be a good restaurant. I wont be back!
Went in this evening to pick up dinner for my family. After getting all the way home, I saw there was a mistake with my order. I called Big Oak to tell them about the mistake, they apologized and they said to come back and they’ll make it the way I wanted it. Im happy with how this was handled, mistakes happen but they took responsibility, and fixed it. This time, my barbecue baked potato was made correctly, and they even gave me a complimentary desert for the inconvenience. Thank you Brandy, and team at Big Oak for the great customer service, and my yummy barbecue baked potato.

Really sad everytime i come in here I and make sure to tell them i dont want dried out meat and its always dry and then they try to put it in a bag and rush you out the door... if i could taste them lower i would... yall need to learn how to bbq and not just throw it on a smoker and forget about it

I ordered the Fried chicken sandwich with fries. I received cold fries & a hard, burnt, greasy piece of chicken on bread. It was absolutely horrible. Ever since new owners took over this place, It has been extremely poor service and quality food.

Usually the chicken wings are awesome, this time they were dry and over cooked. We struggled to get blue cheese, eventually we had to go top the counter to get it. The restaurant was clean.

I am in there at least twice a week for lunch or dinner. This place has the most amazing BBQ, great portions and prices, and excellent service. Also has the best BBQ fully loaded potato and Brunswick Stew.
I eat here about twice a month. This last trip I got a whole chicken with large fries and baked beans for the sides. I was feeding 2 children. It is always a good experience.

Good Bar B Que but its not cheap Im pretty sure there averaging about a dollar maybe dollar and half per platter more than the corporate restaurants but none the less good, I generally order a large fried okra and small drink its by no means (to much to eat) and Im paying 8.34 for a side dish and small drink
