Hands down the best Spearfishing store in California if not the country. Great prices, awesome knowledge, will make you happy no matter what. Theyve fixed tears in my wetsuits, rigged my guns, tied my bands and always been there to bail me out of a gear issue in awesome time to get me back in the water.

Very nice group of people and I will continue to do business with them. When the mail carrier lost my package (name intentionally omitted), Spear America stepped up to the plate and offered to send my order overnight one more time. As of this writing, I am allowing the mail carrier to find the lost package but the offer made my Spear America showed a lot of class.

I dont know if the owner is incredibly nice and knowledgeable or if hes just a great salesman. Maybe he is all three. I received three or four independent recommendations to come to the store. I walked in there thinking that I would gain some knowledge and then buy my gear online. But I walked out with a $300 gun instead! I think this might be the best owner and store within a 100 mile radius, maybe more. Now, I wont even buy sunscreen except from these guys!

This store is focused on freediving, specifically spearfishing. A large inventory of spearguns. And the staff in general are friendly, kind, and super knowledgeable!The owner is friendly, but is hyperbolic in speech, sometimes exaggerating claims. This can be misleading, and is one half of why this store is isnt rated a full 5 stars.The other half is the overall atmosphere comes off as elitist. My first time going in I was a put off by it. Frankly if there were other dive shops knowledgeable in freediving I probably wouldnt have come back. Now having taken the FII Level I course, I can see where a little of that comes from, but not carrying certain entry-level brands (e.g. Cressi) creates an artificial barrier to entry (and also led me to purchase some components elsewhere).Scuba divers can find some accessories here, but Id recommend going elsewhere for bubble blowers.

These guys are awesome! I ended up staying for an hour talking stories with the staff an owner. Two thumbs up and a Shaka for these guys.

The knowledge of the staff here is always top notch and met equally by their kindness and helpfulness. I highly recommend shopping here for any freediving or spearfishing needs. I went to a competitor store who couldnt fill my request and didnt make any extra effort to do so when I placed an order online (Im in Florida). Put in same order to Spearamerica who also called me to inform me the inventory they had wouldnt completely fulfil my order but then worked with me to get everything I needed in the most timely fashion at my convenience. This place has everything you could need for spearfishing. Need that last piece of gear before a trip, they have it. Just starting out and have questions, they can answer them. Not to mention all the excellent knowledgeable staff.

I’ve been here multiple times and won’t go anywhere else. Owner Petros is a legend and so helpful, and he hires those types of employees as well. I’m generally skeptical of local specialty shops because I always feel like at the end of the day they just want my money. At Spear America I’ve never felt like that. I always do my research before I head to a store and the gear they recommend has always been better quality and better priced than what I could’ve got off amazon or other places online. I’ve purchased my speargun, reel, gloves and finally today, my wetsuit from here. I have countless examples of how awesome the people here are but one that sticks in my head is a Sunday where Collin taught my girlfriend and I every knot I’d need for my speargun. Go here. Talk to anyone here and be honest about what your budget is, they’ll help you and make sure what you’re getting exactly what you need.

Hi Gang. Im a free diver that decided to fulfill on a bucket list of spearfishing for an upcoming trip to New Zealand/Australia. As an engineer who over plans/prepares/researches, I did as much research as I could over the web about the equipment: guns, gloves, float lines, etc. I had 1-2 weeks of knowledge to ask different shops technical questions. My next step...gather knowledge from experienced people and make my purchases.Coming from the San Francisco Bay Area, it was convenient to start with a shop in Sacramento. I gave them a call and asked very basic questions. Let me tell you...they were very inpatient and kept pointing me in the wrong direction with no convincing reasons after asking why?. I felt like I was talking to a used car sales man who is passionate about making a deal, not the car itself.I made some more phone calls...Spear America. The greek guy on the phone was very helpful. I decided to drive down to Irvine (on the way pitstop during my road trip) and visit the store. HOLY COW! A wealth of technical information and experience!!! Theres no price tag you can put with the patience and thorough testing these guys have! Dr. Petros spent 4 straight hours do much more than helping decide whats best...HES SHARING HIS PASSION, EXPERIENCE, AND OBJECTIVE KNOWLEDGE! He tests, repairs, and designs parts for products he sells. Hell sell his competitors products because hell admit they are better and why certain features make it better. He tells you the particular, overlooked items you will need for your objective and will tell you WHY! You can tell from the reasons explained that this guy is spearfishing all the time and all over the world.Hes worth your business and takes care of his customers (which I discovered during my visit...he has people calling/e-mailing him from Dubai, New Zealand, etc).

This place gives the customer the most satisfying experience. Everyone at the shop is extremely knowledgeable and competent to answer all of your questions. When I called Spearamerica looking to buy a new speargun I had explained to them my experience level and what my expectations were. Instead of steering me towards the most expensive products they directed me towards a less expensive gun and assured me that I would be extremely happy. Having owned many spearguns in my life I can say to 100% certainty that the one Petros sold to me is the best shooting gun I have ever used. This place is top notch! Hes not in it for the money, hes only in it to get the best gear to spearos.In this would you like fries with that? world we live in, where most businesses try to upsell you, Ive seen him talk someone out of buying a gun or gear thats overkill for them and talk them into buying something half the price more than once.A mechanic, a doctor, a car dealership... whenever you find a company you can trust on that level youd never go anywhere else.
