I received a half dozen box of their cupcakes for my birthday that was delivered via Postmates. The box was dropped off as contact less, so I didnt see the handler.I brought the sweet treats in and when I opened the box, everything had shifted and all the cupcakes were upside down. I literally LOLd and messaged my friend to thank her but also let her know the delivery was not very smooth. I just picked up each one and set it back into the shallow holes in the box.The mini cupcakes were SO tasty - Vanilla, Strawberry & Cream, Cookies & Cream, Chocolate, White Chocolate Raspberry and Caramel. They were filled with a custard or some type of cream topped with frosting. The frosting is very sweet, so I removed it since the bite-sized cupcakes had a creamy filling that wasnt too sweet. The box has instructions to serve them room temperature, but I was often impatient and just ate them straight from the fridge lol. Good either way!
Best latte in the area. The pastries are always great too. Theres a ton of choice in the area but I always come back here. Friendly staff as well!
If you care about quality food and great tasting treats, every penny you spend here is worth it! Their coffee makes me feel like Im walking on cloud nine, gf cakes are the best Ive ever tasted in my 9 years of being gf, and I CANNOT WAIT to see the amazing job I know they will do on my wedding cake!!!! This is for sure one of my local favorites. ❤️
I went in with my mom and sister to buy a Birthday Cake for her dad and our grandfathers 86th birthday! We were incredibly disappointed about how they dont sell a whole cake and its only by the slice. Disappointed about how the owner handled the situation. Overall experience not pleased!
The two employees were friendly but not professional and extremely slow. We ordered two orders of the same cake and one slice was double the size of the other. We were finished our cake before the coffee ever came out. And after all of that... The coffee was cold.
The freshly baked pieces of bread, pies, and cakes from here were so delicious and affordable. The place was a bit tiny, but it can accommodate a bunch of people.
Honestly I was really excited about having a cupcake bakery in Irvine, but I went yesterday and it was the most disappointing cupcake I’ve ever had. The custom cakes and all of the desserts looked great and the service was fine, this review is only about what I ordered. I ordered a couple of cookies and cream cupcakes for my husband and me, but my husband didn’t even touch his after he saw my look of disappointment.Bottom of the cupcake was soggy ?? How does that happen, how long was this cake just sitting in their fridge? The chocolate filling was solid. And the frosting (normally the best part of a cupcake right??) was by far the biggest disappointment. It was not sweet at all and just tasted like hardened butter. Again I didn’t want to give such a bad review but maybe the team needs to pay better attention to the quality and storage of their cupcakes.
Amazing red velvet birthday cake. Liz made 10 people very happy and will get new business too! Thanks!
Good food, but bad customer service and short staffed. Any time I walk in they say sorry we are busy and a French toast may take up to 45 minutes, but I hardly see anyone in the cafe. For a restaurant business, it important for the owner to be there or else this is what non-caring staff will tell customers. And ruin the business. One time a young cashier there was texting middle of taking orders. I hope they hire additional help or hire a responsible manager. I might try them then.
Quality latte drinks. Awesome pastries. Nondescript so don’t pass up on this hidden gem in Irvine.
DO NOT BUY HERE! THIER CAKE IS STALE AND TASTED OLD.
Im not a cake person but they have some of the the best cupcakes! They are not overly sweet and they are moist but not soggy. Bri helped me order and she was very kind and friendly!
I hate leaving bad reviews !! However, this place has the absolute rudest staff. It’s insane ! It’s apparent they take their customers for granted. I would think during a pandemic they would treat their customers like they at least appreciate their business. I will never go with this bakery again. I advise you go elsewhere ! This is for my birthday cake and I’m just sick I ended up giving them my money. The most rotten attitudes. Again go elsewhere and have a better experience :(
A modern and cozy looking contemporary bakery and pastry shop. The flowerless chocolate cake tastes as the name smooth and rich in chocolate. The almond blueberry tarte has a finer nutty note and is topped with whipped cream and blueberry. Opening time says until 7pm, we came at 7:30pm and we still were served, but were not allowed to sit inside . People still came until 7:45pm. The coffee and tea is a bit pricy, the cakes and pastries are well worth the price.
We tried the tiramisu, NY cheesecake, and lemon bar. The texture and flavor were absolutely on point, and the service was very kind and friendly too! Will definitely return :-)
Layer Cake Bakery makes some delicious and pretty cakes! I emailed her to inquire about cakes & pricing, and she was very accommodating. I asked her a million questions and she couldnt be have been friendlier/helpful.
The staff are perfect! They don’t disturb you anytime and still always around you to support you. The cake was exquisite!
Got a red velvet for our wedding anniversary. Love how it tastes. Rich, moist, hint of butter, not too sweet, just perfect. Even the cream was great. Im a very picky eater and this is a great cake I enjoyed very much. Will certainly order again next time.
The Tres Leches cake was glorious, one of the best slices of cake Ive ever had. Its not a traditional Tres Leches cake that is drizzled with condensed milk but it is delicious in its own right. Will be stopping by again next time we are in the area.
This is our go to cupcake place for our parties or just when we have a sweet tooth. Their mousse topped cupcakes have ruined all other cupcakes for me!
We love pastries and the Bakeshop had many to choose from. This is a small café with a huge range of cakes and treats.Amazing bakery shop and perfect for breakfast.
One of a kind place! It is different than typical major brand name bakeries.Among their variety of cakes, coffees and drinks, try their Romesco sandwich and pudding... :-)And the people, makes me feel very comfortable like I am visiting a friends home. And I love sitting at the table along the all glass wall looking outside... the patio greens and street...most original location in Irvine.
Ordered two cakes (devil chocolate and tres leches) for 60th wedding anniversary with special addition of berries, message, and glitter. Got there and was given undressed cakes. I almost walked away with plain cakes until I realized they made a mistake. Then had to wait until they filled the order correctly. When we presented to honorees with the cakes, we made a big deal of how wonderful the tres leches would be. Guess what? They didn’t give us tres leches. They substituted with another white cake. That is two bad service components. Gave them 3 starts because cakes looked pretty. I rather spend my money somewhere where they have good cakes and decent services. I don’t think the cakes I got are good, given the bad taste left with their service provided.
I truly don’t like putting bad reviews for small business, even less during Covid it I was taken for a foul by this place.I usually get all my cakes from the same spot in DTLA, but the place was closed and I recently moved to OC. It was my friend 30th birthday and I wanted a cute, good tasting chocolate cake with a printed picture of her on top of it. A simple cute and original birthday cake. When I went to pick up the cake, I was in shock, horrify by what I was seeing and I almost cried. I asked the person if this was some kind of joke, and after her saying no, I asked if she could fix it somehow or make it prettier. She said “no sorry”.They basically took one of their basic $36 cake that they sell all the time and put a picture on top of it. Cutting it badly, could even center it and add NO finishes, decorations etc.. and charges me $60 for it.I was so ashamed of it, that I ended up ordering cute cupcake to my friend surprise birthday. You can see the picture for yourself. This bakery posted all nice picture on their website and IG but clearly it’s not their creation because no professional will let a cake be presented to ANYONE like that (both of my parent are chefs in France..)On top of everything, before posting the review I emailed the owner to let her know about my disappointment, embarrassment and I got absolutely I answer.Save yourself some time, money and hurtful cake pick up and find another bakery if you ever need a cake
Brianna and Bree were great help. Got the perfect tres leches for my mans bday and scored a couple amazing macarons for myself. Thank you layer cake bakery
Every cake Ive had from this shop is outstanding. Ive ordered two birthday cakes: a Devils Food chocolate cake and a Strawberry Delight cake. Ive also enjoyed a gorgeously decorated Lego head cake at a friends birthday party. Their cakes are pricey when compared to Costco/grocery store cakes, but the quality and taste is leagues above and really isnt a true comparison at all. It would be like comparing a performance race car to an economy car. Get a Layer Bakery cake, you wont be disappointed.
We ordered paw patrol themed cake for my son 6th birthday. Cake was awesome every one liked it, this was second time we ordered, we are going to order my second birthday too. Every time nice experience with them.
Bought Strawberry delight cake for my daughters bday, cake was very delicious.
Love this place! The cakes are delicious and made from scratch! They use whipped cream too! The breakfast pastries are great too. Try the lemonade! Also, they are known for their coffee!
So peaceful and great cake
Ive only been twice so far but this is definitely my new go-to place when I have a craving for a good slice of cake. The tiramisu cake is my favorite so far and my sister loves the german chocolate. Ive only had the cakes but they also have a nice array of cupcakes and other pastries like croissants, cookies, and scones. I had a nice latte as well and the women working was super nice. Give it a try- you wont be disappointed!
This is a cute, inviting place on North avenue. The girls behind the counter were super friendly and nice. The whoopee pie was HUGE and AMAZING. My husband got a flour less chocolate cookie that I thought was also really good. I could really do a lot of damage here. From the looks of it, their cake prices are very reasonable--Ill probably order my next cake from here, in fact.
My first experience here was lovely. I got a melt at fair pricing, with a coffee. They have a neat paying system and I was able to leave a tip for the barista. Nice people, good music, and good vibes.
Little slice of pastry heaven.Generous portions, ridiculously esthetic, and appropriately priced.A bi-weekly treat. :d
We really enjoyed our experience here. We had traveled from Australia and had not had great experiences with breakfast. We eat late when we holiday, and its hard to find places that serve breakfast late. This place serves breakfast till 12pm, and we arrived at 12.10pm but they still served us breakfast. There were 2 options. Bacon and scrambled eggs with toast, hash browns and fruit, or a bacon and egg sandwich. I ordered one and my husband the other. Both were really delish. Mine cost $7.50 and it was a great size, not too much and definitely not too little. The food tasted fresh. The coffee was really good (lattes). Id recommend to anyone, cheers guys!
Go to breakfast spot, typically for eggs bacon and hash. Limited seating available. Seven tables for two that can be combined and one large group table that seats six. The hashbrowns are always crisp. Modern decor. But I suppose this place is more commonly known for their desserts. Cakes, cupcakes, cookies and macaroons.
Great people:) live in south Dakota, family in California. Call them the day before to order a cake for birthday boy in California. With short notice they made it happen. Went above and beyond our expectations. Very pleased with the service the friendly people and it sounds like the birthday boy loved the cake. Only complaint I have is I dont get to try the cake, but worth every penny. Thank you guys soo much.
This is my go to bakery for cakes. I usually stick to the cheesecakes and the chocolate cakes. So delicious!!! Service is always friendly and quick. It takes a lot of willpower not to buy everything on display and gorge myself into oblivion!
Great cakes! They always seem to deliver on time for every party. Never messy.Would recommend
( Sweet Coffee, Bitter Staff) The coffee and Latte is delicious, however, the staff are very rude. The level of customer service in this place is horrible. I am an insurance agent and I deal with clients every day and this place definitely does not know how to keep their regular clients. I recommend the coffee but with the behavior and disappointing attitude of the staff I really do not recommend this place to anyone!!!
Nothing but praise for LCB! Great breakfast, awesome tea and coffee, delicious pastries, excellent service. I come here all the time and couldnt be happier!
Their desserts are so beautiful and great to look at. Thru have some great choices and selections. I would have never though to come to a place like this for lunch but apparently thats a thing here.
Food/breakfast is good albeit a little pricey. Havent had too many of the desserts but they look amazing. The macarons are tasty too and really good coffee. Would recommend.
I stopped at the LCB today and was disappointed . I cannot give a glowing recommendation.I ordered caramel latte coffee with whip cream (Redi whip) instead of milk - A small cup had about 1/3 of a cup of coffee - the rest was whip cream. The cost was $4.50. I am pretty tolerant of a wide range of coffees but I couldnt drink it - It tasted awful. Definitely over priced and stingy serving. I have rarely met a cup of coffee I didnt like. I have now!I also ordered a chocolate croissant for $3.50 that the server said was made on-site. It was okay- not flaky and light like I expected. It did not taste home-made.My visit was after 4pm, on the way home on a Friday night. I had hoped for more substantial food but the grill was closed, Not even a sandwich available. Only over priced baked goods.I hoped it would reflect the 4.2 rating, but it did not.I will say the restaurant was clean, and had a pleasant ambiance.
On Aug. 9, our team of 12 people ordered a chocolate cake and it was $85 (not cheap at all). The cake tasted good but the decoration looked as if it was done by a beginner not a professional baker. Disappointed because of the amount we were charged.
Amazing, quality cakes!!! My FAVORITE sweet tooth spot. German chocolate is the way to go :)
A lot of Gluten Free options so thats a plus but the actual items are not very good. The gluten free cookies are thick and bulky and not very tasty. The Flourless Chocolate Cake is so dense its almost just like the cookies! I would stick to the French macaroons if looking for Gluten Free when buying here.
What incredible customer service!!! They went above and beyond to make a cake delivery happen today in less than four hours. Thanks so much !!!
Cupcakes are dry.
Liz created an Austrillian Themed cake for one of our employees at Atria Senior Living. Everyone was astonished with her design and baking! Thank you for making our Farewell party special.
Coffe and tea was good and they have great pasteries. I was not a fan of the cakes. The frosting tasted like I was eating crisco. I cant say anything about the breakfast as I didnt eat it. The staff is friendly and there is in and outdoor seating.
Great staff and delicious scones. Would definitely recommend. :D
Flat out best iced coffee in Irvine, rich and smooth. Keep it up guys!
The macaroons are freaking amazing!
Very nice, comfy family place. Sweets are amazing
Hands down the BEST red velvet cake. Macaroons are very good too. Pricey thou.
Wait time was really long and the food was nothing special. But it was good value for the money so Id probably eat here again.
There is a fellow New Yorker there. Made me feel welcomed, Gin or Jin. Im sorry if spelt wrong
Staff is friendly! Some of the best home made pastries/cakes around!
Used to love this place, however last 6 visits, we waited over 45 minutes, their employees forgot the drinks, the sides and mixed up the orders. Today 2 families cancelled their order after 1 hour wait, we did the same.
Second time reviewing this. I stopped coming because the quality had degraded and it was really expensive. I heard they had a new owner, so I went to try it again.TL;DR - not good, they sell a tres leches cake that isnt. Not good, at all. I asked the girl behind the counter what she would recommend and she said the tres leches cake. That happens to be my favorite type of cake. It also is a type of cake that most bakers dont get right.I know its tough to make but it is better if you dont offer it, if you cant make it. I could have tried something else and maybe this review would be great. But I was inclined to try it and the recommendation convinced me.The cake turned out to be probably the worst tres leches cake I have ever tried. If you arent familiar with it, then you wouldnt know that a Tres Leches Cake is supposed to be moist. No, let me rephrase that, it is supposed to be wet.The way it is prepared calls for liquid to be poured on it. And frankly it becomes a sloppy mess at some point as you are eating it. But that is how its supposed to be, wet. When you finish a slice of it, to give you an idea, there should be liquid left over on your plate or some moisture at least. The cake I tried was as dry as could be. I was so dissapointed. The flavor was also lacking, and as I was eating it, I bit into a tough part of the cake. It felt like fondant, but there isnt suppposed to be fondant on a cake like this. As I dissected the cake to figure out what I bit into, I couldnt find the source of whatever that was. Then I just got grossed out, about 20 minutes later, I still have a nasty thick after taste in my mouth... not sure why.I really want to cheer for this place, theyre local and I much rather see independent businesses thrive here instead of big chain brands, but I also cant recommend you go here until they fix this. If this happens with this cake, I can only assume that theyll butcher other classics like red velvet, or dutch double chocolate.I was planning on getting some macarons for my daughter too, but I didnt because they didnt look right. They were built sloppily, and besides the pretty colors, they didnt look appetizing, not for their price. If you want to make your own creations and have great recipes and ideas, then go for it! Id love to try new things... but dont mislead us like this.--------Old review 4/5 When the cakes are fresh (same day) theyre awesome. Try to come back when a fresh one has been put out on display and thats what you want. All the other snack stuff is really good too, like cookies and macaroons, etc.
Great pastries and service.
Great service! Amazing cupcakes!
Great macaroons, cakes, and all sorts of yummy treats! Parking however, is a nightmare.
Good food, great local spot for breakfast, French toast is stellar
Had one of the best bread pudding
Great cupcakes
Cakes are absolutely to die for.
Amazing cupcakes
Beautiful and delicious
Nice
