Brian Skay owns Skay Automotive and is fantastic. He gives accurate estimates to which he adheres. If the estimate is not going to be accurate, Skay will call and discuss it with you. We have all our automotive needs met with Skay. I would recommend Skay Automotive to anyone.
We chose Skay Automotive for recent auto repair because of their excellent reputation. Even beyond their excellent customer service and technical work, I was pleasantly surprised with their beautiful lobby. I chose to wait with my 4 and 2 year old children while they serviced my vehicle. I actually felt like I was in someones home; its that well-decorated and stocked with everything you could need! The lobby was clean, bright and had a great selection of activities for kids (kids area photo included). It was amazing. When we got in the car to leave, my kids kept talking about how much fun they had! Thanks for such a wonderful experience!

Only take my truck here, oil change, ball bearings, anything! Always fit me in and do great work at reasonable prices, also very honest with you about the necessity of work and future potential work. Truck has A Lot of miles, I like to be prepared. They have forgotten to notify me when an oil change was done, but the phone works both ways and they are always gracious with customer service and answering questions. Highly Recommended!

This is our first time getting work done on our Subaru at Skay Automotive. Im very impressed with their friendly, fast, professional, and economical service. Very nice lounge and waiting area. Clean facility. Knowledgeable and thorough team of mechanics. They took care of everything requested: oil change, cabin air filter replacement, and tire rotation. They also went through the full 24,000 mile checklist recommended by Subaru. Nice!

They seem to know what they are doing, are an independent shop and seem honest, as in not pushy, not overselling, decent pricing and diagnosing stuff better than your average or below average chain autoshop. My previous independent shop spoiled me in how competent and knowledgeable they were, but I had to move, & so far, Skay seems to hold up to my previous place so theyve got this going for them. Im only loyal in as far as the people I deal with are loyal to me. So far so good.
This is the best place to take your vehicle. TJ is my favorite mechanic that works there. He is trust worthy, honest and fair. He found repairs I needed on my Toyota Rav 4 that he could have just fixed and charged me, but instead took the time to look up my warranty and suggested that I take it to Toyota to have them fix the needed things that were still under warranty. I have had TJ repair things on at least 4 different family vehicles over the years and completely trust him.

Friday: Picked up the van after having brake work done.Saturday: I went to the store, noticed brakes seemed soft. Tried to leave the store, brakes failed completely. Thankfully, I noticed it quickly and prevented any bodily damage to myself or others. However, my van was stuck at the store on a day when most auto shops are closed and my husband was at work and couldnt come get me.Monday: Skay saw my reviews and called me in the morning. They picked up the van and fixed their mistake free of charge. The brakes work well now.
I have been a customer of Skay Automotive for over 20 years. I am very sad to report I will no longer be giving them my business. I was in a flash flooding and a guard underneath needed to be replaced. That was about 4 months ago. It just came off, and I was told by the owner that it was my fault it came off, the Prius is a low car, and I already said I drive badly. I am a woman and I felt talked down to and blamed for what seemed to me a shoddy piece of work. I had to pay $500 deductible and he did not stand by his work.. Twenty years is a long time of customer royalty.I even bought my tires there. If you have a Prius and if you are a woman, I would advise you to go elsewhere for your repair work.

Always professional, have only ever done what was asked and have provided numerous basic services for free. Even let my broke down Pontiac sit in their lot for a few days free of charge. Not going anywhere else.
I specifically asked the owner and the workers when they working on my van (that I was going to use to take on a 16-hour trip), to make sure that it was in good condition for a long trip and to make sure that everything was in working order. When I got the van back they said it was good to go for my long trip; however, 6 hours into my trip my van broke down. When I picked up my van, the workers at Skay Auto said that they checked everything and I shouldnt have any problems. However, they neglected to check my spark plugs (which after getting it checked out) hadnt been changed since the vehicle was made. Along with that, the ignition coil burnt out and I had to spend $400 to get it fixed. It was a big burden and I never got to my final destination and in turn I had to drive home. I tried talking with the Skay Auto people on my return about all the hastle I had been through with the van but they didnt seem to care. I will never take anything to them to get fixed ever again and I recommend that nobody else does either.
I really wonder if the two unhappy (and un-named!) reviewers here are plants from the competition. I have been using Skay for all my domestic vehicle repairs for the last 6 years and have been 110% delighted with every encounter. I have also started taking my older Volvo wagon to Brian, and been equally pleased with his work on it.I have used many other Iowa City mechanics, and nobody is more, affordable, thorough, and honest than Brian Skay and his team.Brian has recommended and performed very low-cost repairs in several cases where he could have easily sold me on way more than was actually needed. If there was a used part that would cost less than brand new, he would always let me know, even though Im sure his markup is higher on the new parts.I send everybody I know to Brian, and they all thank me for favor. You will too!

We have known Brian as a mechanic since BP Towncrest was an Amoco station.We still take most of our vehicles to him. I take my RAV4 to Toyota and highly recommend them also for courtesy and service.Skay Auto has always been honest, courteous and fair with us. When we have taken our vehicles in with a problem Brain always gives us a call to tell us his assessment before he commences on the work. He will also tell us how much it will cost and when it should be ready for pickup! You cannot get any better than this for honesty!
