I am not sure how to feel about this shop. I was quoted $390 for engine work. The guy was considerate to take on the job in a timely manner and was very friendly. a day later, I get a call that the job will take longer than they expected. He offers to put it back together free of charge. Fantastic!I asked for the new total and he says $460, so I appreciated the his work ethic and said $460 is alright. I pick up the car. The job was done properly but my bill was $630.... How? He explains it was 2 extra hours of work, so $150 x 2 but he will bill me for one. He also replaced a part just in case which was $40. I had that part in my garage so if he called me, I wouldve told him not to. Anyway, he insists that the total is $630 even though I had asked on the phone multiple times to confirm the new quote. Ended up paying $630 for something I was quoted 300-400. Not happy. The job was done correctly so I wont give 1 star.

The best one in Town.Had my timing belt kit replaced for my 2008 Acura MDX. Very honest and professional. Called me beforehand to tell me some additional problem they found related to the engine oil leak as they worked on the car. Gave me professional advice as I picked up my car and showed me the parts that they took off. I could not be more pleased with their work. The best one in town! Now I found my mechanics in Iowa City.

Travis was extremely helpful and took the time to explain my options. I am always nervous to take my car to a shop because I have been taken advantage of before. I really appreciate his help and will definitely be using Harapat again!

They know what they are doing. They wont spoil your money installing unnecessary parts in your vehicle. So, it saves a lot of money actually. I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

It’s hard to believe that there is an auto repair shop that understands the concept of customer service but we have one in Iowa City. I received great service at a fair price with a smile and a ‘thank you’. I will be bringing my SUV back for regular services and the best part is I don’t have to be escorted by my husband. Please give this place a try if you are tired of being taken advantage of and treated like you have an IQ of 78. It will be a refreshing experience.

We were traveling through Iowa City after an 800 mile road trip and broke down just 4 miles from home. Mark found time to work on our vehicle and spent extra time diagnosing everything that was wrong. He got us fixed up and on our way. Excellent service here and thorough...I cannot stress this enough! A+ Service! I have recently taken 2 of my familys cars to Harapat auto after inconsistently taking cars to several other auto service providers in the area. I am 100% confident that I will not be taking my car anywhere else besides Harapat Auto while I live in the area. They are very affordable and extremely honest and knowledgeable. Called me often and consistently to inform me of progress and was very timely with the work. I gave a list of recommended services from a different provider in town, and he suggested waiting on almost all the items after he inspected the car - has a genuine respect for his customers and is more concerned about doing what is right by his customers than making the most money. I just moved here about a year ago and I had never had to work with a mechanic outside of the family before. I had heard bad things about mechanics before, about how they can be impatient and rude and can scan you out of a lot of money or mis diagnose a problem or even create more. I went online and Harapat had great reviews, so I decided to go there. They were so friendly and didnt once mind me calling frequently to ask for updates on my car and they were quick to get it done. They were very friendly and professional and I would definitely take my vehicle to them again.

Good honest mechanics. I knew i was going to be spending more than a few bucks when i needed my suspension done. After taking my car to a few other shops, that told me my car was a total loss, they did the work at a fraction of the cost others were quoting me. They also took the time to address other issues as they crept up. These guys have made a life long customer with me. They also fix a problem on my girls car that we thought was much more serious than it ended up being. A few bucks fewer and now all our vehicles run great.

I was told by another auto service I had to have all 4 struts replaced and a 100,000 mile tune up done, totaling $2800. I came to Harapat for a second opinion after reading the reviews. It turns out I have only 1 front strut starting to leak The front can be replaced for less than half the cost and the rear ones are fine!! I can have a general inspection done to see what needs to be replaced ....not a blanket $400 tune up. I was very pleased with the service and very friendly attitude. I told them they definitely have a new customer!!!!

I dont go anywhere else with my car anymore. As a woman it can be hard to find a mechanic that doesnt talk down to you or doesnt overcharge you, and Harapat has never done either. They treat me with respect and have competitive pricing, even if all you need is an oil change. They always call me before doing any work and discuss my options with me. They are also good about fitting me in sooner rather than later, so long as I leave the car all day, which can make all the difference. Thanks Harapat, keep up the great service!!!

They did an amazing job doing my oil change, they also checked my car to make sure nothing else was wrong before I left. It’s a wonderful family owned Auto shop, and the fact that the prices for a oil change are so much cheaper then going to Jiffy Lube!!

These guys are really awesome. I cant think of any auto mechanic that is more trustworthy. They are incredibly honest in their assessment of your vehicle and are not looking to make an extra commission; they want what is best for you and your vehicle. In addition to their automobile expertise and honesty, they provide shuttle service to help you get around while your vehicle is in the shop. I recommend this company without reservation.

I have been using this place for years and they are always professional, explain the issue well, and do a good job for a fair price. I have never felt like they tried to talk me into anything. I didn’t need, in fact, he has called to tell me some of the work I asked for didn’t need to be done now. Saved me money.

Gary was super to work with. I needed something done quick and he was both quick, did quality work, and charged a fair price. Its hard to know who to trust when you havent worked with them before, but this small locally-owned shop is exactly what you need if youre looking for reliable fair-priced service. Oh, and to find the shop on Ruppert Road there was no mention of Lovetinsky on any sign. If you are looking for an address there isnt one thats obvious, just look for the sign that says Harapat.

This mechanic is honest, hardworking, and reasonably prices. They will bend over backwards to make sure you get what you need so you can drive safely on the road. I wont go anywhere else in the Iowa City area.

My car went “clunk, clunk” because of rear end problems. Got it fixed in fine fashion at a reasonable price. Mark and his team were great to work with. Glad to be free of the “clunk.”

Ive been here twice and was pleased both times with the quality of service, completion time, and everything they said theyd do was done! Ive been burned a couple of times with our formerly reliable go to repair shop in Mount Vernon which prompted me to look elsewhere. Im glad I found Lovetinsky Harapat!

Ive been going there for over 30 years [starting at the old place in downtown Iowa City-- now in 2015 they are moved to a bigger shop a quarter mile east of the Iowa City Wal-Mart on a back road = 436 Ruppert Road, between Highway 1 and the IC airport], and I will continue there for at least the next 30-plus years. They know how to work with you and explain things. Ive never seen them advertise, since word of mouth from experienced customers keeps them plenty busy. Plan ahead, since the only challenge can be the repeat customers that are in line ahead of you jamming the lot and trying to get in the door. That must be why they are advertising to add on extra mechanics to supplement the regular guys who have been around 20 years or so. You might have to wait for an appointment unless your emergency can squeeze you in, but the wait is worth it.
