Bought five cars so far, Worst CarMax experience ever. Sale started with Stefanie, wonderful experience until the car wasn’t ready because of some hold and supposed to be picked up the day after. From there the whole car-shopping experience went downhill, and real fast towards hell. Car didn’t even make it back to the house, leaked coolant mixed with WATER in the driveway(pic included), not just that, they put a hold on the down payment been over week and still haven’t seen any resolution. Only, wait for this manager and that manager.

We really liked our experience with CarMax. We were moving from LA to NYC and wanted to get rid of our Subaru crossover. We had very little wiggle room for error because we had a clear date when we were moving. We came in with the offer we got online and came out with the same offer after the inspection. It was way more than Subaru was willing to offer us. Subaru was super shady and we felt CarMax was way more transparent and efficient in their process. We were very happy with our CarMax experience and will definitely trust them to buy a car from after our selling experience.

Found out a year Aug - 2020, Aug 2021 from buying my used 2017 Jeep Cherokee, That the battery wasnt for this car. I was stuck in a parking lot before AAA came. Sad to say I hope this isnt a practice, if I took it to them, I probably wouldnt never knew and before I got I was told everything checked out. NEVERAGAIN, Valucraft was the battery that wasnt be there, less voltage bad for the car.UpdateWas reimbursed half of what I spent on the battery with an apology.

Given the runaround and a lot of promises in the beginning but my QX80 was delivered by two very personable LAX agents and when AAA told me the battery in my SUV had a dead cell, Iris and Service Manager Edwin made sure it was replaced with a new Infiniti battery immediately. No hassle service. They even put my mobility scooter together so I could wait for my vehicle in the waiting room. I am impressed with the service department because knowing I can count on them to maintain my vehicle is very important when making a long term commitment on a luxury vehicle. They have my business!

I wanted to sell my car to carmax and used their online offer service. My car was in good condition but not perfect. I expected a reduced amount on the offer when i took my car to carmax and after it was inspected. That was not the case, they checked my car and kept the same amount as i had received online. Absolutely no problems. I had a 2014 corolla and received $10500 for it.

I went to sell my used car. I had an appointment for 11 am and showed up on time. The appraiser didnt even look at my car until nearly noon. They confirmed the offer that they had made online and I accepted, and then was told that it would be 2 1/2 hours before I could sign the paperwork. It was a customer service disaster. Next time, Ill get their online offer and take it to other used car dealers as negotiating leverage. Im not going back there.

But the first time my wife and I came six days earlier when we received the appraisal no one wanted to let us go into the used car lot. Two people actually stopped us. That was ridiculous so a few days later we went elsewhere and purchased a used car. Huntington Beach jeep had a used jeep that we purchased.

It was an easy, fast, efficient process selling my car to CarMax. Unlike dealerships there was no haggling, negotiating and all the fun moments that come with buying or selling a car. They gave me a quote and sold it at that price 5 days later. Check in hand I marched out feeling I would go back to that location to buy a car - should I need one in the future.

Everything about the experience was beyond my expectation. From the greeting by Samir to the inspector and check out. I assumed the online offer I received would be low balled at CarMax but that was not the case. The online offer is the price I received. The only issue was that due to the amount of customers being handled, I had to return for the check from CarMax but frankly it was not a big deal. As soon as I arrived I was assisted. CarMax is awesome!

Had a great experience selling here, especially after a very disappointing attempt to sell elsewhere prior. Carmax gave the highest quote and honored it after appraisal. I was skeptical about efficiency seeing how hot the market is and how many people were there, but their appraisal took place after only a short wait and the cashier/paperwork took place hours before their quoted time. I really appreciated the greeter at the door as well as all the wait time updates, which were all overestimates instead of underestimates as they often are. Would do business here again!

Absolutely terrible. I paid off my vehicle on 7/15/21. The rep told me that all I needed to sell the vehicle was proof of payoff. The website says the same. I received a quote online and scheduled an appointment for 8/7/21 at the Burbank, CA location. I took my vehicle in had it inspected and went to the business office to redeem the offer. The representative said they could not buy it since it had been paid off but I didnt have the title. I explained that the CarMax finance rep told me I only need payoff information and the website says bring along the title OR payoff information for your vehicle. When I asked to speak to the manager, Kimelle Richard, she was incredibly unhelpful and rude. I asked her to call someone at the finance department to see if anything could be done and she refused. I asked to speak to her supervisor and she repeatedly claimed that she did not have one. She eventually identified her supervisor as Monica Kidder but claimed that she was not available. She would not give me her contact info and said Im sure you can look it up. Ms. Richard clearly had no interest in trying to resolve the situation and only wanted to get rid of me as quickly as possible. She did say I could leave the car there but that she would not honor the offer because the market might change and that if anything happened to the vehicle Car Max would not be responsible. In the end she told me that I needed the title or had to wait until 30 days after the payoff date and THEN I could use the payoff information.I waited, got a second offer and made an appointment for 8/22/21 at the LAX location. I called the day before and confirmed that the payoff information was sufficient since it had been more than 30 days I had not received the title. I took my car in with the payoff information, went through the whole inspection process again, and when I went to the business office, they told me that they couldnt buy my car without the title. I explained again what the website said, what the manager at the Burbank location said (payoff info after 30 days was sufficient), and that I called the day before to confirm. I was then told that it had to be 30 days after the release of lien, not 30 days after payoff. So again, Car Max refused to honor its offer based on incorrect information provided by its employees.Ultimately, I take time off work and return to Car Max a third time to get my car sold. I wasted hours of time and ended up having to pay to park my car since I had already purchased another car and only have one parking spot in my building.Overall this was a terrible experience. Both the website and employees give incorrect information and then no one is willing to make any effort to resolve the situation.

Buying process was fast and easy. However i was told my vehicle was inspected and certified. I was given a checklist of all services that were performed and everything was checked off as meeting standards. Within two weeks of purchase i had to replace, wiper blades (they were old and shredded), get an oil change, replace tires and brakes. I don’t think anyone actually checked my vehicle considering all that i need to have done in such a short time after purchase. I wish i had taken the extra time and had my vehicle checked elsewhere before purchasing

I arrived on time for my appointment to sell my car with an online offer in hand (not the same as an appraisal offer—that requires an inspection at the Carmax store..) I checked in and was told to leave my keys for the staff to appraise my car and to sit in the waiting area. It was not too crowded and there were enough seats. The only problem is that they don’t have a system in place to let you know what is happening with your case while you are waiting; no one tells you when the appraisal has been completed and you don’t know whether you will be waiting for half an hour or for two or three hours. Now and then an employee walks over to the waiting area with a printed appraisal offer (or a rejection perhaps?) for one of the customers waiting.After you get your appraisal offer (I got mine after about an hour), a much longer wait is in store for you if you are trying to sell a leased vehicle for which an early lease buyout from the leasing company is needed. That can take several hours. I was advised to drive away and come back 4 hours later, which I did. But it still wasn’t ready… it took another hour to get final word from the leasing company and for Carmax to then write up an offer. So the whole process from beginning to end took 6 hours. There ought to be a way for them to speed this up a bit…. Apart from that, I must say that every employee who I spoke to was unfailingly friendly, polite, and helpful to the best of their ability.

The car buying process was great, it’s my third car from LAX CarMax. The sales guy was professional and very helpful. I have not had a bad experience with them. The only complaint I do have is with the people in charge of cleaning the car and providing the gas. Car wasn’t cleaned well from outside or inside. Also, whomever they had that day clean and gas my car up decided to take it for a ride and grab their lunch( receipt from pollo loco was in back seat) and I’ve always received my cars with a full tank of gas upon buying it. This wasn’t the case on that day, gas tank wasn’t even half way. However, I didn’t call to complain. Next time around I’ll double check my car before and after.

Purchased my 2016 Jeep Patriot on April 26 2021 and i have had MULTIPLE ISSUES with the car and the business center that i wish i went somewhere else. I had been 6 months and i still have not received my permanent plate or registration. I was called by some lady after the first time i had to go BACK to carmax after the first 90 days for a new plate to be told it was going to be expedited and should be in my possession within 2 weeks - and if it wasnt i can get a refund or return the vehicle since i am also having MAJOR mechanical issues since the 2nd month of owning the Jeep. I was gaslit at the service center then to be told 2 months later by another mechanic i was correct and there is a an issue with the engine and transmission. They sent the car to a company they have a contract with and was told it was a computer issue - but yet the issue is still ongoing and they didnt give me any paperwork at the service center from the contracted mechanic about my car - only the carmax service paperwork saying nothing was wrong. IT HAS BEEN 6 MONTHS AND I HAVE NO PERMANENT PLAYE OR REGISTRATION- AS WELL AS MECHANICAL ISSUES THAT IVE BEEN GASLIT FOR. save your time and money and go somewhere else. At this point Im going to go trade the car is to an actual dealership and get something that isnt broken or a scam.

I came here because I was told it would be a smooth process in selling my car once I did the online appraisal and what was supposed to be quick took forever. Took me more than 2 hours, even after doing the online appraisal and making an appointment. Only 1 person was ahead of me. Even after the person inspected my car and my appraisal was confirmed, I was still made to wait a very long time to be paid out. I cant even imagine what it wouldve been like if I hadnt done the appraisal online.

Purchased a Mercedes Benz SL550 On Sept 9. The passenger door window regulator (motor) was bad and the salesman said they will fix that and wrote up a due bill saying they would look at it. Took the car to Mercedes dealer for check up ($500 just to look) dealer report rear brakes bad, engine mounts need replacement and shockingly that passenger door window regulator needed replacement. Took car to Carmax repair today. Service advisor sweet but perhaps not knowledgeable said brakes replaced, said her mechanic reported engine mounts were fine and that the could look at the door but it would take a few days because they may have to take the door apart and look around. No promise of a repair, just a look. Confidence shot, lets see if the 30 day under 1500 mile refund is real. Sad at the oleaginous dishonesty regarding the window regulator especially. Car is more or less impossible to drive because of the window rattle noise caused the broken regulator.

The place seemed pretty well run (LA Airport). When I first walked in and started wandering about (probably looking puzzled), I was noticed and approached after a couple of minutes, and handed over to another staffer who efficiently took in the information and key for my car. (I think it might have taken less than a couple of minutes if the original greeting person hadn’t kind of had her time monopolized by a 12-year-old kid who had walked into the building a couple minutes before me.).After waiting in the waiting area a few minutes, the staffer who had accepted my car info and key came back and found me and gave me an offer sheet that matched the offer I had received online. She then pointed me to a line at a window for processing the offer.When I got up the window, things took a turn for the worse. The building is a big one to begin with, with a lot of noise floating around it. There were actually two open windows, and unfortunately the window next to me was engaged with a guy with a very loud voice. At my window, both me and the staffer helping me were wearing masks. All these factors led to a lot of requests on my part for a repetition of things my window staffer had said that I wasn’t sure I had properly understood. At the very end, I correctly understood the staffer was telling me to go back the waiting area, but what I’m still not completely sure of is that I also understood that someone was going to come back and find me in the waiting area some time in the next hour and a half after my offer had been further processed.It was after about 2 and a half hours of waiting before I realized that customers waiting for the final check processing were not being looked for at the waiting area, but were being contacted probably through texting, and the texts were not reaching me because my phone wasn’t functioning properly. I had already been to the window to ask where I was in the queue, given that the original 1.5 hours had passed. The second time I went after 2.5 hours, the nice guy at the window simply went back and grabbed my paperwork and did the final check priocessing right there at the window.

I heard so many good thing about Car Max. They were the first Company on my mind when I needed to buy a car. I went to Car Max stressed out cause I needed a car and needed it fast. The Customer Service and Sales person greeted me with such profession they help me to relax about my fear of purchasing a car. They took care of me. We found a car in my budget i was able to Trade in my old car for a newer car. I drove away in a very nice car in my price range. Im editing my review after purchasing a car from CarMax over the weekend. When we first decided to look at CarMax (5 days ago) I was impressed with the number and options of cars they had in their inventory. As a matter of fact heres my previous review: Soooo many cars! Lol. Really great options and prices and the service is wonderful, laid back with no hassles which is great for me. We had Devin as our sales person and he was great. All around good experience. That was day one. My husband wasnt impressed with Devins sales tactics, which basically involved him talking you into dizziness, but I found him harmless, hence that previous review. Then we went back to get the car we thought we selected when we were notified that it arrived and we didnt notice until we got home that it wasnt the car we thought we were buying: long story short, we ended up with a Jeep Renegade Sport instead of the Latitude and he didnt bring this to our attention and rushed us through closing the sale. Also, the floor mats were replaced with cheap ill-fitting mats, no owners manual, and a giant crack in one of the tail lights was glued together and tagged as repaired on the paperwork. Needless to say, we are not happy with our purchase or experience. Im giving them 3 stars mainly for their inventory.

The procedure of having my car evaluated was very smooth and fast. (And Xelonius was friendly and clear, and I felt his written evaluation of the cars value was fair.) The offer was very generous, and I have told my family and friends they should take their cars to you rather than using them for trade-in at dealers. The wait for the check was a little long (1.5 hours), but at least your dealership was near the famous Randys Donuts!

Overall, it was a good experience. Ms. Gwen was very helpful and sweet in assisting me to purchase my Mercedes-Benz. I have a 4-star because the processing team is EXTREMELY slow and it took them over an hour to sign the documents and the place was almost empty at 10am when I arrived. If you aren’t planning to be there for at least 3-4 hours, don’t go.

Overall my experience was good not excellent. I got a good amount of money back, more than the dealership would offer which I was happy with. However, the process to get my check was long, drawn out, and complicated. I wish they would have giving me all of the information that I needed the first time because I ended up having to come back for a second time to get re-appraised since the deadline had passed due to me trying to get paperwork that I did not know I needed the first time I was in. I had to speak with a manager to see if they could help but they were unable. Overall it was a waste of 2 sundays and wished this experience was a little better organized.

Great place to get a vehicle. Tons of options. They work with you and your situation and explain everything as best as possible. Everything is seemless! Be prepared to spend roughly 2 1/2 hours here to finalize everything. Social distancing is taken into account during this process. Just dont try to haggle. Overall the purchase started out great and ended with the same dealership gross taste in my mouth of being strong armed and pressured. I had the car shipped from anther carmax and was told it would be ready for a curbside test drive and I scheduled my appointment. I arrived at my scheduled time and my car was nowhere to be found. I checked in and although there were 3 or 4 people out in the lot, my advisor hadnt been assigned yet. I even looked briefly at the car with one of the advisors, but still couldnt leave for my prescheduled test drive.When my advisor finally was ready, I received a phone call and although I was already by the car for the test drive I was asked to come back inside to do paperwork.Seems like this paperwork could be taken care of before, especially given I was planning on picking up and leaving. This also inconvenienced the person dropping me off because they were going to wait until I had secured the car before leaving me stranded.Once I got back inside I was asked what I was there for and then the advisor was surprised to hear that I had already scheduled a 24 hr test drive and I was told it would be unlikely for me to take it given the time of day and the paperwork needed. What a waste of time. I was then told that I could just buy the car and do the test drive that way because they have a 30-day return policy.I thought CarMax would be different than normal dealerships and here I was getting the run around from different entities. CarMax Online said something different than Carmax on the phone which ultimately said something different than the CarMax advisors in the store.There is no cohesiveness and I feel just as slimy as I would have at a normal car dealership.

Got an online quote to sell my 09 Mazda 6. The quote was, I kid you not, double what a car dealer was offering for trade in. The price was not far off what I thought it would go for privately, but without the hassle of that. I took the car to CarMax for inspection and they upheld the quoted price, which I was very pleased about as I felt for sure they would penny pinch and find all sorts of little things wrong with it to discount the price. They didn’t do that so feel I got a very respectful and fair deal. My only complaint is that they said I’d be in and out in about an hour and it was more like 2, but I’m not going to deduct a star for that given that I’ve got $6k in my pocket and $3k more than the dealer was going to give me.

I went to the Riverside location to buy a car. I got approved with Capital One for 39K, but they needed my Social Security Card??? Since I live in LA, it didnt make sense to come back, so I found a car at LAX. A lady called me and said I could do EVERYTHING online at 10AM last Sunday. She wasted 5 hours only to tell me to go into the office because she couldnt transfer my appraisal.I went to the LAX office and told them Im already pre-approved and I just need to speak with someone. They made me wait over an hour. Once I was fed up, I told the gentleman at the front that I was leaving. He literally told me to have a nice day. He could care less about losing my business.At that point, I went home. Got pre-approved with Mercedes Benz Financing for $75K and took my business there. Im now the proud owner of a certified pre-owned Mercedes Benz because YOU DROPPED THE BALL. Thank you for that. Ill never come back.

These guys were beautiful! I went in at the last minute and it was the last night I was going to be in Southern California before I moved to Europe, and I had to get rid of loaded to the tatas BMWX3. They didn’t want to, but they took me! Then they worked as quickly as possible to buy my car at a good price! I am so grateful for them because they could’ve said “no we can’t do it we’re closed you’re too late,” but they didn’t. You’re beautiful baby! Love these guys at Carmax! definitely sell your car to Carmax. My niece went here also and that’s how I got the recommendation. she said she had a great experience as well. You can’t go wrong with Carmax!

I wish I could give this place 0 stars. Carmax does not consider your time. I made an appointment early and it took 5 hours to sign papers to be able to get my car. There was no other customers when we arrived but it took 5 hours to sign papers. The reason it took so long was because the guy helping me (Godfrey) kept disappearing. We brought in our prius to use as a trade in. Before we brought it in, we had our prius checked out. I found out he double booked and would disappear constantly to the break room. Then he would come back and say someone was checking out our car for an appraisal. Our car was behind us and we could see it. After waiting for 2 hours someone finally checked out our car. So when Godfrey told us 2 hours before that someone was checking out the car, he was lying. When Godfrey brought us our appraisal he tried to tell my wife and I that our car had frame damage. I wish I had read the reviews to this Car Max before I came here. There is no frame damage. This is a tactic that Car max does to give you a low offer. I found this out after going through yelp reviews and too many people said the same thing. When my wife went to the restroom Godfrey tried to sell me on the Carmax insurance and handed me a pamphlet. The pamphlet he gave me was in Spanish. I dont speak Spanish and nor does my wife. Godfrey is one of the worse car sales people I have ever met. He was rude and out of those 5 hours I spent trying to take my new car home he sat down for 40 mins the most. This is a thing at this carmax. Every couple who was sitting at a desk being helped, their sales person would disappear so you would see a bunch of people sitting waiting around for someone. We came prepared with everything we needed to sign papers and take the car home. We showed up a couple days before to make sure that when we signed papers to purchase our car, it wouldnt take 5 hours. Also we were told that they were going to have our credit ran by one creditor not 8 of them. Also when we wanted to take our car to get things fixed on it, no one ever answers the phone. Avoid this Car max at all costs. There are better ones.

I had a very positive experience with CarMax. They delivered the car when they said they would and were very friendly and helpful the whole way. The only complaint I would have is that the car was very, very low on oil when it arrived and also fairly low on antifreeze. The overflow bottle was empty, and the radiator needed quite a bit of fluid added to it. I would think those two things would be among the first things checked upon inspection.

I was looking for a Carr all over Los Angeles. And finally went to Carmax. Which it was a very smooth experience, did not feel pressure to buy the Carr, they have a lot Carr’s to choose from. I have the most professional sales man. Justin, he was patient a showing me everything that I wanted to see, walk away and give me my space to make my mind, answer all my questions. Ask for Justin if you want to buy a Carr at Carr max La Lax.

They were eager to help in the beginning which was good but not only did they run my credit through every bank they could actually messing it up and making it extremely hard for me to see about other options from different car lots because I cant keep running my credit that will only hurt me. Than the lady and I were texting and than she randomly just stop responding to my text which it unprofessional because I only could text because of my work hrs. So not only did she run through my credit messing it up but she tried to give me the worst deals ever considering score is good . But yet I still dont have a car. Make carmax your last stop not your first if your looking to lease or buy a car

So easy, got the online appraisal, made appointment for live appraisal, drove car there and photos were taken, mileage verified etc, it was approved and as I needed the car for 2 more days and since quote was good for 7 days I returned with spare keys, title and state registration and got a check 2 days later. Seriously couldn’t have been any easier.

5 stars for this CarMax location! Ive been working with this CarMax team for the past 4 months searching for the perfect car for me and it has been nothing short of awesome! Mark Thompson is one of the most straightforward and professional people Ive worked with. He is extremely responsive, flexible, and accommodating. When it comes to transferring different vehicles from other CarMax locations, to scheduling test drives, to the entire purchase process (including explaining all of the paperwork and the MaxCare program), he is truly an asset to their team. They are very patient and thorough throughout the entire process. I highly recommend and approve this location; you wont be disappointed. They are true professionals in this business.

My experience at this car Max was less then enjoyable. First I was pre approved online then contacted by a sales representative at Car Max! Was told that I was already pre approved by Capital one. Went over every aspect of what I needed and was told that all I would need to do is bring in the paper that coincided with what we went over on the phone. That I would the hours we spent on the phone would alleviate the time spent in the dealership. That information was far from true! Once I got to the dealership I pretty much started for square one. Then was informed that all the paperwork I brought in was invalid because it wasn’t printed there. The sales representative tried to do her best to make the situation was less frustrating but the finance manager was very rude and inconsiderate. I didn’t not appreciate how he continuously questioned my check stubs as if they were fake and then I had to provide my bank e statements due to him still not believing that they were mine. In total we were there for over 4 hours. I was not happy with my experience there and if it wasn’t for the fact there had the exact car that I wanted I would have left.

I had such a negative experience with this Carmax. I am only giving two stars because I requested a. car to be shipped from another state and it arrived earlier than expected. Besides that everything was horrible. I requested it be delivered to my home they called me and told me to come to the store. I set an appointment for 10:30 am. Got there a little before 10am. I didnt get helped until 12:30. I literally waited two hours for someone just to help me. Here I was with a check in hand and a car already picked out and it took two hours to just get help and then another 3 HOURS!!! to purchase the car. My sales associate was so slow and kept asking me fo documentation that was not needed and the business office was like yeah you dont need that. At 4PM I was finally driving off the lot. A week later my service due light came on. This is after being told that the car had been fully inspected and serviced. I took it to a Honda dealership and found out that it had not been serviced. It needed an oil change, transmission fluid, brake fluid and new air filters. So they hadnt serviced at all and when I called Carmax to see if they would fix this I was told Id have to pay for it! Its only been two weeks. Theyre the worst.

Love all the different types of cars for sale but if you are coming to have them appraised your car to purchase it from you, make an appointment. Otherwise, there will be a couple hour wait if they see you at all.

I got a quote online and didn’t expect it to hold water. Brought it in and had it physically appraised and got offered even more! This was with some front end damage. Got a check that day and was on my way. Literally didn’t expect it to go this smooth. I did not purchase a car from them, only sold.
