3rd time coming in 2 weeks and place says open online. Don’t trust hours because they are never correct. Owner is never there and doors are always locked. Can’t even try calling because no one answers and number doesn’t work. Never going back until it operates like a business and treats local residents seriously.
LGG is an institution. I am sorry to see it go. Ron is a great guy. God bless you Ron.
Love this unique, quirky spot. Really good produce in-season, homemade pies (especially Indianas official state pie - sugar cream). Importer of French culinary items (copper cookware, cutlery, dinnerware, etc.). When the chef is cooking, the slow-roasted salmon is the best Ive ever eaten. WE NEED MORE LOCAL PLACES LIKE THIS!
We were blown away by Ron (owner’s) hospitality. As we were waiting for a table at Mama Carolla’s across the street, we ventured over to check it out: This shop is a gem and well-cared for. Ron went out of his way to welcome us to the neighborhood and we will be back for more delicious pie and treats. Thank you 🙏
Very eclectic place.. Owner Ron is a super nice guy.. As a man who knows a thing or two about sugar cream pie, the state pie of the State of Indiana, I can tell you Ive had it all over the state and beyond - and you wont find sugar cream pie any better. Youll also enjoy meeting Rons special friend, DaVinci. Great experience, great restaurant, great market, great spot. Pay no attention to any negative reviews.. Anyone who would write a negative review for this place or the owner is out of their mind.
Great place for locally grown lite meals. Sit outside. And, go home with plants to grow your own produce. We bought mums here during the fall, tomato plants in the spring. It is what it is - a local garden -dont expect out of season produce! The people here are friendly and helpful. It is also a bike friendly stop while on the Monon Trail.
My mother lives in an assisted living facility. For thanksgiving, I was able to visit her on the patio, but we werent allowed to dine together. I promised her I would bring her favorite- sugar cream pie, minus the nutmeg. I called the week prior to thanksgiving to place my special request order. I was told it would be ready for pick-up on Wed. I went to pick it up and for whatever reason, it hadnt been made yet. I was devistated and all I could think of was my broken promise to my mom. The owner was there and offered to drop it off at my house that night. It was so very nice of him to do that. Above and Beyond! Thank you for making an 81 year olds day and not letting me break my promise!!!
They have awesome produce and the gentleman gave us a complimentary sugar cream pie for our 21st wedding anniversary. So kind. Thank you! Will not forget.
When are they open? I live on the same block and have never once been able to check the place out. Went there to buy pumpkins today, 2pm on a gorgeous Saturday. Lights on, doors locked, not a soul in sight. No working phone number. Other people pulled up while we were looking around for someone, and we saw at least two seperate parties simply steal a few pumpkins once they realized no one was there. Its a gorgeous looking place as far as I can tell, but how (when) in the world do they do any business?
This was arguably my top dining experience in my life. The intimate setting was perfect for two of us having a celebratory meal. I could feel the love put into the food with every bite I took. I am honored that Ron came out and allowed me to shake his hand. What a fantastic chef with so much love for what he does. Thank you so very much for the opportunity!!
I enjoy their pie and produce - when they’re open! The last few times I have arrived to the store to it appearing open inside, but the doors are locked. There are never signs indicating hours or if anyone is around. When you call, no one answers the phone. As I am sitting here in my car, no less than 10 people have walked up to the doors to try to support this business but cannot. Please just answer your phone or put some actual hours on your place of business so people don’t waste their time. It’s very frustrating.
This place is so nice. I was in the car and my family was heading to Walmart to get some pumpkins, then we saw Lacally Grown Gardens. The atmosphere is so amazing, the vibe it gives of is really nice. We got a pretty white pumpkin and a nice tall orange one. We also got some pies, they were delicious. The place is very nice for pictures aswell :)-Jencyn Miller
This is a wonderfully friendly and eclectic place. Very much part of the neighborhood it serves. Delicious fresh produce. Always interesting conversation. Both from patrons and staff. Offers a fabulous carry out menu. Very much a must visit and a continuous check in.
Amazing food and very cool place to chill for a few while food is prepared. Owner Ron and staff are very kind and generous. Amazing pie, bbq, salmon, and greens with citrus vinaigrette is top notch! One of my favorite places to eat!
They make awesome pies and have farm fresh free range eggs for
I totally love their fresh made pies. I got the sugar cream today. Apple is divine too. Ive heard that the food is really good too! Staff is always friendly. Im getting the pulled pork next time.
Had the smoked pulled pork sandwich and it was amazing!
The owner, Rob, made homemade hot cocoa for us because it was cold. Very sweet man. Cant wait to go back for the sugar cream pie I keep hearing about from all the locals.
Beautiful place, people, animals, and excellent chef. All the food is farm to table and very nourishing. You can taste the love and passion with every bite. Cream from the farm, delicious and nutrient dense meats, with the perfect combinations of flavor. So totally worth it and will continue to make the trip to Indy to eat at Locally Grown Gardens!!!!
Conceptually an interesting place to visit. Lots of fresh looking produce to choose from. Some random housewares are available as well. There is a sun terrace with books to presumably lounge and read from. They have lunch on weekdays, but pie always! My friend and I met in Indianapolis for the first time, and heard this was the place for sugar cream pie. Though we didn’t have anything to compare it to, the pie was truly satisfying. Get it warm. It might not look the best afterward, as it gets kind of soft and melty, but it’s the taste that matters!
Locally Grown Gardens is a completely unique farm to table experience. Its a beautiful and artistic spot that has a strong sense of community. Locally Grown is equal parts restaurant, home goods store, and farmers market. Perfectly situated off the Monon, we often stop by on bikes for a lemon shake up in hot summer months. Seasonally too, they offer dinner service with pulled pork, chicken and salmon offered with a side of ginger slaw or greens
The apple pie is delicious!
Dont go here....that way theres more good food left for me.This place is an experience folks. The owner is an awesome guy,and the fresh and amazing tasting produce is unique to say the least.Try the salmon or the roasted pork...words cant really describe it.I am actually stopping by today,so you might want to go tomorrow.Have fun and enjoy.Remember....eat responsibly. ✌🏻
Ron is an awesome chef and has a delicious menu. They offer salmon, smoked pork and half a chicken. His slaw is unique and super tasty. They have fresh baked pies. I’m a fan of the apple and my wife lives the sugar cream.
I came to dine. The chef-owner, Rob, personally prepared my meal: salmon on greens. It was truly exceptional, one of the best meals Ive had and was, without exception, the best salmon Ive ever had in my life. The sweet, tart, and savory flavors together in the dish were perfectly balanced. In addition to the freshly prepared meals, they offer a wonderful variety of raw and prepared food items to incorporate into meals in your own kitchen. I eagerly anticipate my next visit.
A+ pies....and take away grilled salmon on a bed of leaf lettuce with an asian dressing..Chef Ron does it rite!
Once again the most delicious fresh homemade meal in town! Ron’s delectable delights, including his famous sugar cream pie, are perfection at its best!
Love this place! Ambiance is relaxing. Food is so fresh and delicious.
The salmon was great! If youre eating smaller, split with a friend. It had nice glaze, good color and flavor. Not dry. The slaw was a bit strong on vinegar for my taste, but a good pairing. Oh and the sugar cream pie was amazing for my sweet tooth and for those who prefer more mild deserts. And it is right on the shaded Monon Trail for a nice walk after.
Welcome to Locally Grown Gardens a little gem nestled in Broadripple. Where the antique furnishings and wood surroundings make it feel warm and cozy!On our first visit we sought this place out for pie and that is all we had, but the smells are making me want to come back for more. Way more. I need to come here on an empty stomach. 😊The people were excellent, the location is right off the main road and the pies, LET ME TELL YOU THIS.The pie was amazing! We were not there for the food, but witnessed a couple next to us get food and it smelled amazing!Did I tell you that the staff is just amazing!?-Service A-Food A-Pies?? 🤔🤔😭😭👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼😍😍🤤🤤oh sugar cream pie, how I love you so..
After 5 attempts to call or walk in and get a pie they are either always out or kitchen closed. And all the other items have an exuberant over pricing. I dont see any reason to support this local business.
One of our absolute favorite places. Food is incredible. My boyfriend always gets the salmon, and I love the market salad. The staff is always great and the owner is such a great guy.And if youre lucky enough you can share a table with Davinci, the beautiful ginger house cat. :)
On our way to Nashville, it was my wifes idea to stop at Locally Grown Gardens on the outskirts of Indianapolis for lunch on the way through. Really glad she found it. The business is one part farmers market and one part restaurant. Its not huge, so the selection on fresh vegetables is a bit limited, as is the menu, with arguably the most shelf space dedicated to knickknacks. That said, the food was absolutely delicious. My wife got a huge piece of salmon with coleslaw and a wonderful sauce. I got some smoked meat with barbecue sauce, my only complaint being it was way too much barbecue sauce for the meat I had. But thats a small complaint for a place that was otherwise a delight to visit. It was a beautiful day, so the outdoor seating with some burning logs providing a smoke shield from the bugs was a nice touch.
Small grocery/home goods store with a quirky selection of rotating products. The building itself is amazing and its worth just stopping by to walk around for a look. You might as well try the meal offerings while you are in though -- all that I have had here has been delicious.
Pies are the best in the city.
Had a wonderful lemon shake up. Im sure the food is fabulous
Loved the chicken! It was a lovely evening to sit outside and enjoy the fresh air. Ive always been pleased while eating here....!
This place is great, and I would give it five stars if not for the ridiculously loud music. It’s CRAZY loud. I couldn’t hear myself talking, much less hear the person behind the counter. I would’ve spent a lot more time and money here if it weren’t insanely loud. Seriously....we could hear it two blocks away.
Best. Pie. Ever.I travel from Muncie to Indy weekly solely for this establishment — I have not found a better embodiment of the Hoosier state than that first glorious bite I took of Sugar Cream Pie.A wonderful warmth permeates the establishment which I’m sure stems from proprietor Ron Harris, whose kindness and knack for surprises caught my girlfriend and I off-guard one night: when telling Mr. Harris we travel an hour just for his pie, he slyly provided us a full box of pie free of charge with a wry thank you. In a calloused world, what kind of business owner still does that?Once past the reclaimed industrial facade, warm heat lamps and homely jars invite you in; a cat greets you at the counter. A sliding door open, an Indiana breeze whips your brow toward a slight saunter of baked goods in the oven. What a place! One cannot find a better representative of Indianapolis than Locally Grown Gardens and Ron Harris. I beg you to give this place your business.
The best.....but dont buy your copper pots and pans here
Hours posted were 10a-9p. We showed up 1:30p on Saturday, August 12, visiting from Dallas. Very eager to get some local produce because well, were from Dallas. As we walk toward the door we hear someone yelling lock the doors, lock the doors. I smiled because I thought someone was joking... They werent. A kid tells us from inside the shop theyre closed. My advice to growers and customers? Dont disturb happy lunch.
Fantastic pie and food, though no vegetarian entres unless youre okay eating fish. Fresh produce, however, is available. The prices arent cheap, but the servings are generous. Right off the Monon trail so its easy to bike or walk. If youre going for dinner, smart to call ahead to see if the chef is in as its a small operation.
Do yourself a favor and go! Best Sugar Cream Pie!
Love love love this place. Everything they do is exceptional and the staff is so nice.
The place is a hidden gem in the city of Indianapolis. It can be easily overlooked because of its facade, but they consistently make the best food, for the money, in my opinion. Menu includes: 2 salmon dishes, BBQ pork dish, roast chicken dish, roast veggies dish, and several great pies.
Excellent food and people!
Sad they were closed on a saturday.wanted to buy some pumpkins, but sadly they were closed. There were about forty people that stopped in while I was there . I hung around thinking that they went on a break.but they never came back .
Best pie Ive found in town. Love stopping here when Im walking on the Monon or enjoying Cantebury Park just to the north.
When the chef is cooking food is really really good and they have good produce
Can be very pricey but understandably so. They have high quality local produce and a great location for a quick stop while enjoying the Monon trail. Their pumpkin bread is my favorite.
Flakey operation to say the least...owner and staff clearly not on same page. Staff told us it’d be no problem to host a small event until week later the owner said, “I think the music will be too loud...you’ll probably be happier somewhere else.” Guy didn’t know us from Adam, so have no idea what their deal is.
In the past they have not been open, dispite the hours on their website saying they are open. Remembering this I called the day before asking if they would be open, and when they would be open the next day. I was told they would be open until 9pm that day. When I went the next day I found all the doors locked and it closed. The food is great, but not being open when I specifically called about it is inexcusable.
I wish they would update their information-I went today but they were closed. Don’t drive here unless you have confirmed they are open!
The reason I only gave it 3 stars was because 4 out of the 5 times Ive been there shortly after 10:00 a.m. when they are supposed to be open they werent!! I even waited awhile before I left. I live over 2 hours away and only have so much time when I go there. All I wanted was a piece of the sugar cream pie!
Pie! So good. Love this place. We call it reggae dude if youve been, you know why!
Great pork! Love this place.
Our favorite stop off the Monon! Unbelievable salmon dish- when in season. Everything else is equally yummy, fresh and tasty.
I havent had a chance to eat a meal from this placed, but I really appreciate their craft soda selection. This is a great spot to snag an interesting soda and sit along the Monon on a nice day.
Good for produce and knick knacks, but the real reason to go is the pies, they are exceptional. The pork is pretty good too. Great place to grab a bite and chill while walking the Monon.
2 years in a row I have put in an order for pie only to go pick it up in the morning and no one be there. I will never give them business again.
What a great place to get fresh, seasonal items, unique kitchenware, and awesome pie. The menu is limited but everything is of high quality but at reasonable prices.
Pulled pork is great. Best sugar cream pie you can find in Indy. Staff make you feel at home.
Ok, the food is great and its an awesome establishment, with that being said, their hours are HORRIFIC. You have to call EVERY time you think about going because they are so random, the chef is NEVER there, so they say they arent serving lunch, come back at dinner and they arent serving dinner either and vise versa. Ive actually called in advance to take a friend from out of town, they said yes, well be serving lunch we get there not even 40 mins later and its oh, well, our chef isnt here, well be serving dinner from 5-9pm. It was only 12:43 at the time. I really really want to support this place because it is a local small business and the food is great, but I dont have time to play with your flaky, flighty, inconsistent hours.
Limited menu but everything is so good! The pies are as good as grandmas.
The salmon is the best in the Midwest! They also have some cool groceries and produce.
Another sublime experience at Ron Harris oasis. Life is in the details.
Superb food and people who take care of people!
Grey place!
Awesome shop....tons of fun thingsa
Pretty disappointing that the last two times Ive come here (@ 8pm and 7pm, respectively) theyve just randomly been closed during their regular, listed business hours... Dont think Ill bother coming back unless its in passing spontaneously.
From first impression to last bite, this shop/restaurant was utterly charming and delightful. We stopped during a bike ride on the Monon, and we were sweaty and hot. We were greeted with delicious yellow watermelon (even though we hadnt even bought anything yet) and got help in ordering food. We got a pound of the barbecued pork, a side of cole slaw, and two lemon shake ups. Oh. My. God. Even though it was hot and sunny and we sat outside at the big tables, we were cooled by the lemon shake ups and DELIGHTED by the delicious pork. The cole slaw was the best Ive ever had. It was almost a magical meal. Plus, amazing service. Kind, friendly, accommodating, and wonderful.
Best pie in town
Liked everything....shopped for veggies and pie before...but tonight was first time eating here...had salmon, that melted in my mouth....my husband had the pork BBQ...delish!!!! Their apple pie is out if this world!
Rode my bike 30 mins to try the place out (I heard the chix was great) only to be told the kitchen was closed for the day..at 2 pm in the afternoon! :(
Best pulled pork in Midtown, also one of the coolest settings. Ride your bike here!
Great food, good prices, more then smoke service...
The pie alone is worth 5 stars. Hidden gem on the monon.
Unique and high quality.
The grilled salmon with baby greens changed my life - coming from a guy who never thought hed like grilled salmon - this may be the best meals Ive had in my life. Also lemon shake-ups and pie.
Awesome sugar cream pie. Must have. YUMMMMM!!!!!
The open faced pork sandwich is incredible.
Over pricedSome good produceGood sugar pie
Great local place to get local produce.
Please change your hours listed on Google. I went today & it was closed. Hours stated you are open at 12:00 & you werent.
Great place. Ron is the best.
Restaurant review: staff friendly and all smiles, food was AWESOME, and tables were comfy. Might go tomorrow to try the pork.
The sugar creme pies are amazing!
Had a slice of apple pie, it was delicious!
Good pie
Nice lay out good food
Unique high caliber place in town
How a locally sourced bakery/market/restaurant should be.
Great fertilizer.
The sign stated that they opened at 9a.m. and we were there at 2pm and they were not open
Absolutely fabulous food and experience!
Start with pie, make sure and order some lemonade, eat chicken, salmon, or pork, and then get more pie! Fantastic!
Fresh and delicious!! A must!
