They missed a huge issue with my engine and convinced me it was a separate issue. Caused engine failure, which could have been avoided or fixed earlier. They have been consistently rude to work with as well, which I would normally forgive, but thought I would mention.Overall, if you need basic work done then they are, admittedly, decent; but I wouldnt go to them if there was a real problem or if your not very knowledgeable about your car. Long turn around time as well.

Hopkins is one of the best. Jeff is a straight shooter and is very honest. I started taking my cars to them a few years ago after my brother-in-law suggested them and I have not looked back. I dont take my car to anyone else for service anymore. There is a reason this place is always super busy and its because people trust Hopkins and they do great work!

I had friends in the auto industry when I moved to Indianapolis. I asked them for an honest and competent mechanic. Independently of each other, 3 picked Hopkins. They said the work is done right and most importantly for a non-mechanic like me, they only do what you need. They do not up sell their work.I drive older cars. Two times he has given me a quote on work but then added at this point I wouldnt do it if I were you. Hes also done things like fix a vacuum leak with duct tape saying well see if that holds for a year or so before we decide to order an expensive part.Yes, the phone calls can be...abrupt. He didnt go to school to be a phone receptionist. Hes more friendly in person, but still his game is auto repair, not phone conversing. Get over it.

I had an electrical issue in my truck, which Jeff and his team resolved in a short period of time at a fair price. I would not hesitate to go back and anticipate doing so if I have a need.

My husband and I and our adult children all drive older cars, and Jeff is our trusted mechanic. He goes above and beyond by doing only whats necessary, at a reasonable price. Jeff has been absolutely amazing to myself and the rest of my family. He only suggests what needs done and for those of us whos money is tight, this is very helpful. Jeff is very transparent and now that I live over 5 hours away and get the run around from virtually every mechanic I have encountered, I wait until I come back to Indy just to have Jeff look at my car.

My first experience with Hopkins was a few months ago. I called them because I generally dislike going to dealerships. I needed a simple oil change. My car is a tiny 2013 ford...he wanted to charge me 70 dollars...thats nuts. I dont know much about cars, but I feel that when things go wrong I generally have a good idea of what could be wrong. Today I had an emergency, the belt on my car had split out of no where, and again me disliking typical dealership shops regularly I decided to call Hopkins. After expressing my worry about my car and asking if they had any spaces today I was answered with a no and silence. I was not offered alternatives times or any kind of typical human interaction from a decent business. I would say third times a charm but Im thinking not. Thanks for NOTHING Hopkins.

Ive been going to Hopkins for about ten years now. I have nothing but 100% positive things to say about Jeff and the rest of his team. When I had high-mileage vehicles, he always suggested repairs that were consistent with what he felt was warranted, given the value of the vehicle. When we had our children and I wanted to make sure my wifes van was as safe as it could be, they made sure it was running perfectly. Just today, he saved me a pile of money by working to replace a connector when the dealer would have only been able to replace the entire wiring harness. I see the few negative reviews on here and I understand that people can have a negative experience anywhere, and its natural to vent frustration through a negative review. However, Jeff and his team have been nothing but honest, reliable, flexible, helpful, and positive throughout every single one of my experiences with them over the past decade. Theyve earned my trust and I send anyone who asks me for a shop recommendation their direction.

Honest place & excellent service! I brought my Trailblazer in at 100k miles for service. I had a long list of things that I thought I wanted done. When I called the Chevy dealer, they were more than happy to perform ALL of those services. However, when I talked to Jeff, he went through my list and sorted out the things that needed to be done, then things that didnt need to be done at all, and the things that should be put off to 150k. Basically, he cut the list in half and the dealer was going to just do the whole list and charge me a LOT. At 120k, my truck is running great and Jeff saved me a ton of money. Ill always take my vehicle(s) there for service.1/19/18 Update: Truck is now over 165k, and Hopkins is still the only place I go even though its a bit out of the way for me.

Best auto repair shop in Indy

My company had been bringing our company trucks to Hopkins for repair for quite a few years. We exclusively used Hopkins unless the turnaround for repair was too long and we had to get an emergency repair elsewhere. I took over responsibility for a portion of our fleet a few years ago, and the first time I brought in a truck, Jeff was rude and dismissive. He actually acted annoyed that I was bringing him business, then acted more annoyed that I would ask for an estimate on how long the repair would take. Not once did I say, That wont do, Im taking my business elsewhere. It was never an emergency, I just have to plan and coordinate around the absence of the truck, like anybody would have to, be it a personal or company vehicle. And yet, even though I never reacted to his rudeness with more rudeness or impatience, every time I brought in a truck for repair, I got the same attitude. I dont know what makes a person run their shop this way, but we have taken our business elsewhere because of it.
