Dropped my car off early on a Wednesday. I set the appointment the week before. I was told by the owner to expect a call. As it neared closing time, I called, and called, and called, but no one answered. Since I was paying for a rental car and needed to plan ahead, I decided to just go past the shop. The owner was there, but apparently not answering the phone. He said (again) that he would look at the car and, since they were staying later, that he would let me know that day. I never received a call. I called in the morning several times but there was no answer. Eventually I went past the shop AGAIN only to discover that they were not open (despite it being during business hours). I waited until after lunch, and started calling AGAIN, and AGAIN went past the shop on my way home from work. Nothing. Eventually I went past the shop a FOURTH time and ran into the owner and got him to agree to call me later. He was JUST then looking at my car despite having an appointment to do so the day before at 2. He called this time and I arranged to pick up my car the following day at 2, to which he agreed. After arranging to drop my car off and get a ride from a friend to the shop, which was several miles out of the way, I arrived. THE OWNER WAS NOT THERE. He finally showed up an hour and a half later. How can he treat customers like this? Dont take your car here unless you have the resources to pay for a rental car for an undisclosed amount of time. And dont expect to hear anything back about your car....unless you make the effort to continuously travel to the shop and finally get lucky enough to discover it is open.

Chris was very informative. I forgot her name but the lady at the desk was very nice. Chris found the issue with my car and got it all fixed up. The only reason I give it 4 out of 5 is because I was charged 180 for a new battery for my vehicle.

Just picked up my Firehawk from Cowans after having them replace the starter on it. Excellent service and work. They have my business from here on. You can tell Chris isnt the sort that just tries to inflate the cost in any way he can. He charged me a fair price for the work done and Im satisfied.

This was by far the best experience. Chris is unbelievable, old school, he explained everything to me. He showed me my old parts and explained why it was that way. We talked about other items that need fixed and hell be the one who does all the work on my truck and my wifes truck. You cannot go wrong bringing your vehicle to him.

Chris is an excellent mechanic. Fair about prices & will not cheat you on work that does not need to be done. Will go out of his way to fix your vehicle, highly recommend this car repair place!

I have been there several times the past couple months for various issues starter alternator to name a couple Chris has always taken my car in without an appointment. He is very reasonable and wont try to sucker you into repairs that arent needed I would highly recommend him for work he even stayed til 11pm one night working on my boyfriends truck who does that great place for car work

Edit: 7/26/18 Still a great place to go to. Even showed up at my door since he couldnt get ahold of me to let me know what can be done to fix my car and then offered to give me a ride back up to the shop to get the car when it was done. Still hands down the best place to go.This place is really great. They fit me in without an appointment and my husband needs the car to work since he delivers parts and our wheel bearing on our jeep was going out and making a grinding noise. They were the cheapest place I found and wasnt like Santa Fe Garage trying to charge me $800. They are also open later than when they say they close. They do open at 8:30 and not 8am. They are nice, friendly, and didnt try to tell me there was a million other things wrong with my vehicle like others try to. I would HIGHLY recommend them.

Has had my car for almost 3 months could not get a Hold of Chris to find out anything about my car. Very poor customer service. My advice. STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHOP

I took my car here back in August after taking it several other places to have it looked at, it was running very loud and hard and for some reason no one could tell me what was wrong with it even after charging the 90 dollars to look it over. I was referred to Chris at Cowan automotive by a friend of mine and couldnt be more thankful. As it turns out it was my alternator. Chris took it in at 3:30pm on a saturday and worked on it until around 9 oclock that night after business hours so I could make it to work the next day. I wont be having my car worked on by anyone else.

Im sure everyone knows the struggle of finding a reliable and trustworthy mechanic. I moved to the Kansas City area around two years ago and Ive spent plenty of time with the local mechanics. I have a 2003 Cadillac CTS and since finding Cowan automotive I will not be taking it anywhere else. Ive been to Midas, Complete Family Car Care, and Barrs Automotive just in the past few months and have had awful experiences with all three places. By the time I found Chris at Cowan Automotive, my car needed a lot of work. In the last month Chris has changed all 6 spark plugs, two ignition coils, the valve cover gasket, sway bar kit and fixed the break light issue I was having. Now, let me just say that with the valve cover gasket, spark plugs and Ignition coil issues I had this problem worked on and fixed at two different shops prior to taking it to Chris. He stayed late multiple times to get my car done so I could make it to work the next day and just the other day when I took it up there to get the break light fixed I had to make it to the DMV by one Oclock to get my tags renewed and when I called all of his bays where full, but when I explained my situation he had me bring it up right away and he jacked it up right there in the parking lot and got it taken care of and got me out of there before 12:30. Also, if you get stuck waiting inside, the receptionist Stacy is really easy to get along with and does her best to keep you entertained. All in all this is the best mechanic shop in the Kansas City area in my opinion and I wont be taking my care anywhere else. Thank you, Chris and Stacy for taking the head ache out of going to the mechanic.

So let me start off by saying Ive never actually had a face to face encounter with these people. I would also like to add how excited I was to have a shop so close, and as a bonus I love to support local and mom and pop shops. We had a younger guy come around our neighborhood by there shop selling coupon books, and it seemed like a great deal, so we got one. Now...here is where my issue starts, I called to set up an appmt like they suggested I should, I show up at 10AM and NO ONE IS THERE. Mind you they open at 8:30-9AM depending on the day. I sat and waited a few minutes, but eventually like everyone life had to go on, I didnt have all day to sit. I NEVER GOT A CALL BACK. Today I called and inquired about how long it would take to have a basic oil change, the lady gave me pricing and info, and told me they would have it done in 30 minutes (after I explained, I had a very short time to have it done that day). About and hour and a half goes by, I get a call from the lady asking if I am still coming in, I apologized for not taking a moment to call back an letting them know I wouldnt make it, I didnt end up having enough time. The lady went so far as to tell me that they held a bay open for me for 30 minutes. My husband is a Diesel mechanic, if they werent 100% sure I was coming, why would they hold it? I then told her I would try to see if I have time in the morning, she recommended I call first to make an appmt, Okay, no big deal. I told her that last time no one was there. SHE SAID WELL I GUESS THAT MAKES US EVEN. EXCUSE ME?? Ive worked a lot of customer service, that is very very rude. I did hang up, and have no intentions of calling again. I will be going up to talk to the manager/owner about the customer service and to return my coupon book. I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM DUE TO 2 BAD EXPERIANCES!
