Have been around this area before but hadnt noticed this place, but glad we stopped by today. Atmosphere is really cool-- cozy feel with deco with a theme that fits the places name. We tried drip coffee and an ice latte; the drinks tasted good. Staffers were friendly. Parking was a little challenging early afternoon on a Saturday but we were able to park in the street nearby. Would love to come back again and spend more time here when the weather is nice and we could enjoy outdoor seating as well as the inside (it was raining today).
This place has a great atmosphere and its an awesome place to study. I love the two-story building and the windows and dark academia aesthetic. The coffee is also good especially the cappuccinos. The service is fine. My only complaints are the parking which always seems to be an issue and also the lack of seating. This place tends to be very crowded but on the bright side the hours are great and its open until 2am.
This is a beautiful coffee shop! ☕I went here hoping for an Irish coffee but it was 11:00 on a Sunday morning and they arent able to serve alcohol until noon. I got an iced coffee instead and it was really good, in fact I had to get a second one to go. Ill have to come back some time for my Irish coffee!
You cant go wrong with Agora. Its consistent after so many years. Its also one of the few places in Houston that feels unique to hang out in. Even when Ive traveled to other U.S. cities, I find that few coffee shops can rival Agora.Pre-pandemic, there werent many places other than bars that were open late and now that list is even smaller so Im thankful that Agora has continued to offer its typical hours when possible. Its nice to have a place where you dont have to drink alcohol to socialize.Of course, theres coffee and tea. But if thats not your thing, they have beer and wine. Some pastries as well.
Was looking for a nice place to sit down have some coffee and get some work done. So glad I found this spot while I was in town. My only concern is how steep the stairs are to access the second floor. I’m not sure if this is only a hazard for patrons or employees but they almost can be considered a ship ladder! I also want to give recognition to the young Spanish woman Who was providing the cleanup. I noticed she was so attentive that I had to personally thank her for her attention to detail. She is seriously godsent!
I’ve been coming to agora for over 10 years. I’ve had dates here. I’ve had break ups here. I have had an unlimited amount of hours of conversations here. It never gets old. The wifi is really slow sometimes but honestly this place makes up for it in its rich history and diverse clientele. It’s so cozy!
First time going to Agora and I loved it. The ambience was great. Loved the jukebox! Didnt see anyone smoking indoors, it was quiet and clean. Indoors was a bit too cold for my liking but that could be because I was sitting next to the vent😁. Service was great and respectful and masks were required to enter. I only had the vanilla latte wasnt the best Ive had but I heard there were other better drinks on the menu. I saw a lot of people in there with open books and laptops so Im guessing its a great place to study as well. Downside is the parking. Their parking lot does not hold much but you can be lucky to find parking in the neighborhood. I parked and walked. Definitely a place Id recommend and visit again!
A wonderful relaxing atmosphere, as in ancient Greek cities where citizens would meet to learn, talk and just conversate - the assembly of the people. A good place to sit and also do your college work. Just great all over.
Great place to stop in and get some work done if you can find a spot. They are pretty high traffic with to go orders too. Theres almost always someone walking around wiping down tables or cleaning touch points. I am 50/50 on sitting upstairs or outside depending on the weather. Park around the block if the parking lot is already full. Great for people watching too if you just want to see the Houston vibe.
Great place to get some coffee and read a book or bring a laptop and study. Definitely saw some posted signs telling customers to not occupy a table if they were not consuming something. Definitely think a lot of people ignore the signs lol, but it made me nervous thinking I was gonna get kicked out the second I finished my latte LOL.Also its always super crowded and parking is a nightmare. Sometimes you get lucky and score a highchair outdoors. I tried to go there on a Tuesday afternoon and there was nowhere to park and I could see people sitting outside on the patio already, and since it was 80 degrees outside, I knew for sure all the seats inside were taken. I gave up after cruising by multiple VIOLATERS WILL BE TOWED signs and decided to go to Empire Cafe next door instead. (Plenty of parking and indoor tables.)Really great place...if you can get into it, that is.
I’m always here! Always busy though, but great place to grab some coffee and a snack and catch up on a good read or simply relax, get school or work done! Decor is amazing
Vibs are great. The smoothies are addictive. It. Smells amazing. But have fun finding a seat. Definitely a place to catch up with some friends or get some work done
Visited on a Friday afternoon and had to have another visit the following Sunday. They make a perfect hot latte exactly as I like to have it made. I usually get two, and they can make it decaf if your body doesnt want the caffeine. I got two desserts, the Melomakarona (olive oil and honey with walnuts cookie). Much better tasting compared to baklava. On Sunday, I had the tops of the lemon poppyseed muffin. So huge, I was only capable of consuming the muffin top. Best thing about Agora is the laid back vibe and numerous people-watching opportunities. Its just a great place to chill for about 1-2 hours. I try to go during non-busy time of day. I will definitely be back. ☕
Great place to sit and talk with a coffee or a glass of wine. It has a really European flare to it and you can just work on your laptop, play chess, or catch up with your friends. The coffee and fresh baked goods are amazing too
Its really noisy. So if you are looking for a quiet cafe this is not it lol but its nice lots of people we sat downstairs. The people that took our orders were really nice and everything is done super fast
Overview:One of my favorite coffee shops in Houston. The coffee is good but Ive had better. The main reason why I give this 5 stars is for the actual coffee shop itself. It has a nice wooden, cozy interior. Plenty of seating inside, outside, and upstairs but the place does get packed. Ive had many good memories here with my friends and gf. I used to come here a lot to do get some work done. I usually get the white mocha or opt for some green tea.
I actually recently discovered Agora and I am in love! This place actually has really good coffee. I come here to study and it’s been pleasant.
After many suggestions from friends and family to check out Agora, I went with my boyfriend and we loved it! I got the seasonal pecan cold brew with oat milk and a vegan cinnamon roll. They have a wide array of treats for many dietary preferences and the coffee is divine. The atmosphere is so charming and the staff members were kind. The outside patio was perfect for a Saturday morning coffee date - plenty of room to spread out and be socially distant. Will definitely be visiting again!
Coffee and muffins are really good. I need to try more things on the menu, but everything sounds good.
Great coffee. Definitely a better choice than common bond.
It is usually crowded and most of with young people. Taste coffee and other beverages. Take your laptop and go.
The vibe here is really cool, the only problem is the parking lot
Place was really cute. Coffee was ok. I’ve been to a good amount of coffee shops and this one’s coffee is ok. It does get packed really quickly so if you can be there early like around 3 or early 4 then you’re good. It’s just a bit too busy to be relaxing for my liking but overall, it was not bad. Their parking sucks though, you have to be there super early or else you park somewhere along the street where you’re not blocking someone’s drive way. I would come back but definitely not always. If you have anxiety or hate crowded places, I definitely don’t recommend. You definitely do see some interesting things here, I saw a chihuahua in a blanket while someone was studying 🤣 sooo cute. Haha
I really liked it here, got to make a nice memory with someone i love. The coffe is great too, and their cookies were delicious. It is a really good spot to chill at night.
Nice and cozy store. I saw lots of people brought laptop to study but sometimes they play noisy music. I don’t think this is a good place to study. I ordered a latte with hazelnut syrup and a walnut brownie. I don’t want a strong coffee and the barista was really helpful. She tried to explain everything to me and gave me lots of options. 5 stars for their service. However, parking is very small and always full. You need to find parking lots in nearby neighborhood.
Agora is wonderfully Greek themed coffeehouse that has a bit of an antiquated vibe to it. Be prepared to do street parking as their parking lot is quite small. I came here today and the cashier was very kind and helpful. She helped us choose some monkey bread and an almond milk caramel latte. Both were delicious, and I loved how there was a microwave there to warm up the monkey bread (a cinnamon muffin/pastry with brown sugar and walnuts). There were a lot of people present, but everyone was approximately six feet apart. I love how there are two levels. I would definitely recommend sitting on the top level so you can have a good view of the whole place and you can better admire the artwork. Just beware of the steep stairs. My friend and I came here to study, and the table was quite low. Also, the WiFi was slow/laggy, so we ended up creating a hotspot from my phone. In addition, the outlet near me was too loose for my laptop charger to stay plugged in to. Thankfully I had enough battery to be okay without using the charger. And just a heads up, the music can get a bit loud.I would definitely recommend going to Agora if you havent already. They have seating outside as well for you to enjoy if the weather is nice. I have also been to the belly dancing performance that they have on Wednesday nights and really enjoyed it!
Been going here for well over a decade. Coffee is excellent and the place has a chill vibe without being overly pretentious. Would highly recommend for a good coffee spot.
The lavender latte is AH-MAAAZING! The atmosphere is really nice as well being around the artsy people of Montrose is a whole vibe!
Artistic cafe, conducive to very small gatherings, with 2 floors and outdoor seating. It had a distinctly Brooklyn feel with a laid back charm. The graffiti art on nearby walls is also noteworthy. I just really liked the vibe of this place. There was enough chatter going on such that a private conversation was easily able to drown into background noise, but also the patrons gave off chill vibes so that privacy didnt really feel like an issue anyway. Staff was great. Pastries were tasty. Coffee was ok.
Agora will always have a special place in my heart. Warm and cozy environment. Location is excellent. Had great conversations and many board games nights here.
Really loved this place. They are open until like 2 am, and you can come and get coffee, wine, beer, and pastries! I have been looking for a place thats open late and you can still sit in and enjoy. The espresso was very tasty and the almond shortbread cookies are really really good. My boyfriend got a match latte, and said it was very tasty as well. Really great spot to go and get some work done or to go and visit.
If you’re wanting to linger and read/work/talk with a friend check out Agora. The coffee is very good and priced reasonably and there’s wine if that’s your thing. The best part is that there’s two stories of seating inside and an outdoor patio wrapping around the building with a very good vibe. Great location on Westheimer too!
The place is lovely. Nice vibe overall, good for studying, coffee and desserts are good. A bit too crowded but I could find a spot.
Awesome coffee shop with a great feel! Good for a cup to relax/study or hang out with some friends.
I love this coffee sho, but apparently a lot of people do to. I say that because it was very busy when we went and parking was very hard to find. Though the coffee and vegan options were good.
Kicking people out during dangerous weather. They closed early due to a lack of customers. It was 1 am, they usually stay open until 2. There is a tornado warning as well as a flash flood warning. I asked the barista if she was aware that it is flooding in some parts of Houston. In a hostile tone she replied, That is why we are closing early. She then told one of the owners who then approached me as I was trying to exit. Aggressively and visibly angry, he said My friend, I am going stay open for only 1 customer? Although I was not the only customer there, I tried to explain to him that it is irresponsible to not only close early, but to force people to leave during such weather. His actions clearly show that he only cares about money and has zero respect for customers or their well-being. Also saw a rat running around the tables as I left.
Great coffee shop. I use to come here all the time. Very cozy and chill spot to get work done, study or chat with friends.
Love this place. Great coffee and great vibes. The inside is a little tight for corona times, but the patio will afford you some fresh air. The aesthetics of this place are great! Love all the Roman stuff. This place is popular, so I recommend going on the off hours (reference google’s business graph) if you like a quieter environment.
All of the drinks Ive had here are fantastic! Great service, awesome atmosphere, plenty of seating.
Great place for to study and have good time with your friends!
Wonderful unique atmosphere. Perfect place to get work done, aided by the Muses.
Coffee isnt really the best, but the place is open until late and has a good ambience. You dont have lot of food options here
I love this place. It’s so cozy. The salted caramel latte is delicious, and they have so many tasty treats &drinks. It’s usually poppin’ so when you find a seat you have to hold on to it!
Cool place with a neat set up (upstairs/downstairs, outside/inside)! I enjoyed the coffee, customer service was great, really nice people, enjoyable music played on a juke box style system. My only complain was parking. I was afraid of being towed due to the towing signs of neighboring businesses and the inside felt slightly claustrophobic but Ill definitely be back! Just park in the surrounding neighborhood on the streets.
Very relaxed environment to get some studying done . I enjoy how its 2 stories .
A nice place to meet up with friends. Have never been able to find a table to actually get work done but always end up hanging out outside on the patio area. Their sangria is delicious and so is their coffee. I really like how they have little Kinder Happy Hippos for sale there, I always stock up when I go as I cant find them anywhere else! Overall, I like Agora more for hanging out with friends than going to get work done.
Always a relaxing time when I come to this spot. I get a house coffee with a ham & cheese croissant. I put it in the microwave to make it all warm and nice...man it’s good. However, they just put a giant ball of ham in the middle. Not spread out which makes it weird to eat. Overall, nice place to study, read, write or enjoy a nice cup of joe.
This has been one of my most favorite coffee spots for years! So cute and chill with a comfy atmosphere. I have been coming here for almost 15 years and it brings me back to when Id come after school to study and meet up with friends. This was the first place I actually drank coffee that I actually enjoyed which was the beginning of a whole obsession. Its definitely a must go place everytime Im in the area
Great place for studying all afternoon. Free Wifi, good coffee, beer, & gluten free bakery options. Mostly quiet and tons of seating.
Super crowded and uniquely designed interiors! Interesting coffee place. Coffee was pretty good but I don’t know If i would give a 5star rating coz parking is so difficult around this area
The owner was incredibly rude in my last experience. I had come twice in one day, because I enjoy the study environment and the coffee, but I had an outside beverage from when I compared the two, so he freaked out and said to never come back. I have given you so much business, introduced so many people to this store, and even got to know the baristas for the past three years. But when this man is on shift, it is like an uncomfortable aura of unpleasantness floods the room, and all he cares about is money and stressing everyone out rather than his regular customers. Unprofessional and unnecessary. Keep it up and no one will want to return to your business because you can’t adapt to the simplest thing.
This review is 10 years overdue. Ive been coming to Agora regularly since 2011 and its always been my favorite coffeeshop/hangout spot in Houston, which says a lot because theres TONS of coffeeshops here. As an undergrad, I used to study here at least once a week and order my favorite white mocha drink. Their smoothies are also delicious. They usually give you a cookie along with it, which is a nice touch. Everything is Greek themed (hence the name), and theres a cute jukebox on the first floor. Seating is plentiful, but it actually fills up very quickly if youre there on a weekend during peak hours. Its a favorite spot for Rice students to hang out and study at, so just be prepared to wait for seating. They also have a decent patio area that wraps around the house. Seating is variable and depends on what table you get. Some are definitely more comfortable than others. Probably their biggest draw is that theyre also a bar, so they open until 2 am. It serves as a fantastic study spot (if you dont mind moderate background chatter) as well as date night. Now that I live farther away, I make excuses to come by every once in awhile and theyre just as good as I remember them being 10 years ago 😊
As expected in the Montrose neighborhood, parking is limited. This is a 2 story coffee shop that has a wide array of drinks- coffees, teas, smoothies, waters, wines, etc. I like the sweet treats especially: brownies, cookies, muffins, etc. I only come in the evenings and there is usually lots of seats available. I prefer upstairs as there is less traffic, but there is patio available also. Relaxed, comfortable ambiance with a diverse crowd.
My little brother visiting from back home and he loved this place so much, and their strawberry smoothie
Love, does get crowded but it has coffee, beer, wine and some sweat treats while being open late. Might be hard to find a seat or table, but great place to study.
Atmosphere is great, drinks a tad on the pricey side for the amount you get, but absolutely delicious!
Favorite coffee spot in Houston, their coldbrew is a must try.. also great wine options
Awesome ambiance and coffee. Arguably best coffee place in Houston
Great coffee. Great sangria. So-so wifi.
Very pretentious and judging enviorment from staff and coustermers food is not authentic and just a shell our to appeal to current youth
Ive been going here for 20+ years. It never gets old with its quaint charm. Back in the day, it was the only place you could get a Nescafe frappe on a hot summer day and I still go there in the summer specifically for that! The upstairs is cute and a nice spot to have an intimate conversation. Sometimes the laptop people take over and its hard to find a place to sit. I was happy to see they have a few vegan goodies on the shelf! Cozy and comfortable. Love!
Convenient spot to do work
Late night chill coffee hang out spot. Stays open till 2am. One of my favorites.
Great coffee, very tasty pastries and great decoration and atmosphere.
Love this place, service has been really bad recently.
Cool place, nice staff, great coffee. It gets old looking for a seat though when there are 50 people sitting in there that bought one coffee 3 hours ago and are basically living in the place or using it as their office space.
The atmosphere is really cool. I like the upstairs and how it opens up in the center. There isnt music playing here very often so most of the noise is from other people. The cortado was interesting. It had all of the right flavors, but was still lacking somehow. It may have just been a bit watered down for my taste. It was still decent. As a side note, the area anywhere near the bathroom had a very unpleasant smell, so I would not recommend sitting over in the back area.
Favorite coffee shop in town! Love the greek iced frappe & white chocolate mocha, cookies baked by Michael’s cookie jar, the selection of cold non-alcoholic drinks, the music, good service & chill vibe. Nice that common bond, space montrose, Brasil & empire cafe are right next door.
Overall the coffee was good and reasonably priced, as was the sangria. The atmosphere is fun, but most of the chairs and tables are fairly uncomfortable and difficult for studying (which is why we went). It was packed on a Saturday afternoon and was difficult to find a place to sit. They offer a small parking lot, which was full the entire time we were there, so we had to opt for street parking a few blocks away. Overall, not a bad experience, but nothing to write home about.
Love Agora. Clean, great atmosphere, European feel without the attitude. Coffee is great, different experience than Starbucks. Give it a try. Oh, get there early if you want a place to park.
Great coffee, the staff were a bit impatient, but I understand it can be a stressful job. The atmosphere is also very nice and comfortable, it’s an ideal place to talk with friends over coffee.
Very cool building and great coffee ☕
