I tried this place for my first time this morning. I was attended by Susana promptly for our drinks. I had a hot tea with a glass of water. The hot tea comes with honey and a lemon. I proceeded to order the western omelette with wheat toast and a side of fruit. The fruit was fresh and the omelette was fluffy. I will definitely be coming back as Susana was more than helpful with her service and the food was fresh.

The quality of the food here is pretty amazing, but I’ve noticed a trend in recent months. The cheesecake slices went up from $4 to $7.50, and the only thing that’s changed is they added a small dip cup of strawberry sauce. Coffee price has stayed about the same but the cup is about half or 2/3 what they used to serve. These were my regular items from this place along with the bagels, but almost a 100% increase in price per volume doesn’t seem justifiable to me.

The Bagel Shop as my family and probably many others, calls it is fantastic. An icon to normalcy, away from a franchises sterile impersonal environment. A place where the owner floats through, maintaining the persona, and yes, will stop in their tracks to take a compliment or complaint, and has gladly for me, found and handed me veggie cream cheese out of the fridge. This is the kind of place you want to refer to your friends and family, as the food is proudly consistent and fast, served in a setting filled with conversation and relaxed professionalism. Rare and appreciated.

Im from Bergen County, New Jersey where you can get some of the best bagels. Ive been searching for decent bagels here forever. Panera were the best I could find.Years ago I ate at the restaurant, it was good. I took the opportunity to step into the bakery which was closed and saw a one loaf of rye bread that flat and very unattractive. I lost all interest in trying anything from the bakery.Today I walked in and it was so different! Everything looked beautiful and the bagels were crusty and soft. However the rye is not NY, sorry.

NY Bagel Shop is an authentic Southwest Houston community institution. Both bakery and deli style diner it has been the place to meet for a great breakfast or lunch as well as an amazing bakery for over 35 years. The service quality, menu selection and atmosphere all make breakfast and lunch delicious and pleasant. The bakery side offers an astounding variety of authentic fresh bagels and breads. People from all over Houston have enjoyed meeting for a shared meal or picking up baked goods for generations. And the owners have been quietly supporting charities and those in need for years as well. NY Bagel is an iconic and delicious part of Houstons culinary heritage and has fortunately survived the pandemic.

I’ve been going her for years, always a good experience—truly a staple of the community.I would recommend their Breakfast Special with Home Fries as a go to, or their potato pancakes (some of the best in the South). They can occasionally get very busy in the coffe shop, but in that case you can always order to go or pop over to the Bagel Shop side for some excelet bagels and baked goods!

Im visiting from El Paso and my mom was raving about NYD&CS, so we had to come!😋I ordered the 2 Eggs and a Plain Bagel with the House Fries. My food came and everything was semi-warm. I was anticipating to spread my cream cheese onto my bagel and it would be nice and hot. It wasnt. The butter was hardly melting. And my eggs and fries seemed like they were cooked a while before I ordered.I like the seasoning of the potatoes but I bet they would have been better if they were fresh.I might try for another chance next time I visit and maybe it was just an off day. My mom was surprised at the quality of the food and didnt finish her bagel. 🤷🏽‍♀️I will come by before we leave back for some fresh bagels for sure! Just not sure on the dining experience.

Since being in Houston, I am still on a mission to find a good corned beef sandwich. So far, New York Deli is my second try at trying to find a good corned beef sandwich. When I got home, started eating, my first impression was not a good impression. First, let me start off saying that when I noticed that the restaurant close at 4pm, and it was a little after 3pm, I was a little apprehensive. I really dont like going to a restaurant close to closing, feeling that the food, for some reason, may not be as fresh as if I had gone earlier in the day. But since I was out already, and not that far away, I decided to go anyway. I should have listened to my first intuition. The corned beef was super dry! Just looking at parts of the meet, it had that dried-out look, like meat looks when it has been in the fridge uncovered. So, I said to myself, at least the meat is not tough. I decided to finish eating it, knowing that I would never return (my motto: if food is not good the first time, I will not give restaurant a second chance). But then, when I got down to the last 2-3 bites, I noticed the bread had MOLD on it! I was super mad! Now I am wondering if I unknowingly had eaten any mold! The mold, although a small amount, was on both slices of the bread...Ugh!!! Bread does not mold that fast, so this tells me that they had this bread for awhile, and did not care about serving old food to their customers. For this reason, I will definitely not return; and I will tell everyone else, to check your food before you eat it. If I lived closer to this restaurant, I would have returned to show the mold, and requested some of my money back! $11 for old, moldy, dried up food! Shame on you New York deli!

Highly disappointed.. To say the least.. (Sorry about the spit out food on the tray in the photo) My order was the lox on a sun dried tomato bagel, through doordash. The reviews for this place are great so i was pretty excited to check them out. Also how can you mess up a simple salmon lox sandwich lol. Ive learned today you can and it could go horribly wrong. My first bite I didnt add any condiments (cream cheese, tomatoe, lettuce etc.) I just wanted to enjoy the bagel and Delicious salmon lox. After my first two chews The first thing that hits me is this rancid unnatural fishy taste then a ridiculous over load of salt, so my mouth is just fillled with a combination of disgusting rancid fish and a sh*t load of salt. The bagel was pretty much non existent at this point I couldnt even taste the bagel. At first glance it was great all the vegetables looked fresh and crisp NO weird odor coming from any thing and there was plenty of salmon! I get lox in multiple different states and cities and Ive never experienced anything so foul. I called them just to let them know SOMETHING WAS WRONG! I was Pleasant of course, explaining to him that I didnt want anything in return but there was a major issue with my order. First he kept trying to explain to me what lox is. Which Im already pretty darn familiar with the process. He eventually stop cutting me off and listened and ended the conversation with Okay, Thank you. Sorry. ?????? I would just shy away from this place altogether. If you look at my reviews I try not to leave places a one star review because I get it.. Youre trying to run a business and Things may happen sometimes but this was truly inexcusable. (And of course doordash refunded me everything!)

Well for those of us in Houston who miss those New York bagels, well I got some good news. There is a Jewish (Kosher) restaurant that I have been to here that boils them (thats right I said boils) and from what I have heard from my New Yorker friends, the taste comes closer than any other place around that they have been to. Now I have never been to New York and may never get the opportunity to (still hoping though); but getting back to point here, this boiled bagel is so delicious where I make the venture out of Katy to get these tasty morsels. Yes they are that good. Plus I buy a bunch and freeze them. The shop is split into a restaurant and a bagel shop that has been here for years and has a little tale of history that is interesting to read about. The food in the restaurant is good and the wait staff is quick and friendly. One thing to mention about the restaurant that I couldnt help but notice is that the place is immaculate which got high praise from my beautiful wife. The atmosphere in the restaurant is more that of a diner with lots of pink. So casual attire is fine.

The chicken was mush and tasted like the can it was dumped out of and the garlic was over powering. Coleslaw was flavorless and unremarkable but thats to be expected anywhere you go. That went straight into the trash. Matzo was ok. Broth had zero flavor and chicken was dry and looked unappealing. At least the pickle was edible but they had nothing to do with that, overall a complete waste of money.

Grew up in New York, lived there up until 2 months ago. This is no way shape or form a New York bagel. Perhaps a bodega (corner store/groceries and deli) bagel but if their aim was to identify as a bagel boy type of bagel they failed miserably. The bagel I had was very chewy, not fluffy and airy, not warm either. If you want your bagel with cream cheese and toasted you have to go to the diner section to grab it. I ended up getting an egg special which was standard for a diner experience. The prices are too high for the quality of food you receive. The Hispanic waitress we had was a delight. However! The lady at the register let a man cut in front of me and while she had been very friendly with the people paying before me she was cold with me. I wont be returning here ever again. Also someone had posted that the coffee was delicious, it tastes like Folgers so if youre into that then sure its nummy.

A friend of mine likes this place for the Reuben. He likes the price point for the sandwich as opposed to a couple of other places around town. By the time you put melted cheese, Russian dressing and sauerkraut on the corned beef, it isnt really a critical component.I, though, had just a plain corned beef sandwich. It was good, but no better than what one could make at home with some good rye bread from Three Brothers. But then, one wouldnt be able to enjoy the cool, retro feel of this coffee shop, people watch, and pass some time feeling like you were back in 1960.Now, as people from the east coast will tell you, when you order bagels from the bakery, you just say give me whatever is hottest, that is, whatever has just come out of the oven. Good words. Good recommendation.
