This place is amazing! Alex was so much help. My husband got a great deal on a used surfboard. Alex boxed it up so we could take it with us on the plane back to CA and helped us get it to fit in our tiny rental car. I recommend this shop if your looking for a good deal and friendly people.

Botchy repairs. I had taken a couple boards here to get some dings and cracks repaired. The first one had its ding repaired but when I went to pick it up, another new dent had somehow appeared. The owner was cool and offered to repair that free of charge but that dent happened after I had dropped the board off. Eh, mistakes happen. When I took my second board in for a repair on the rail it was very unprofessional. It was my main board to ride and had one pressure dent from my back foot. When I go to pick it up I notice theres another unfamilliar pressure dent beside the one I had embedded. I dont know who he outsources to but its like a game of Russian roulette. I would not recommend board repair services but its not a bad place to buy used boards. Plenty of options for versatile surfing styles.

The owner was great super knowledgeable and patient. I am a first time ocean surfer and he took the time to get the right board for me and my kids highly recommend.

Went there to get fins and and leash for a board we recently bought there. I didnt bring the board and needed fins and a leash. The staff were super nice and helpful. Even went out of there way to explain stuff and ensure we got all we needed. Our daughter wants to try out surfing. Definitely going back there for more surf related stuff. Go check them out. Great selection of boards. Ranging in quality and price. The people there are super helpful and really the Aloha spirit. Most boards come with fins, and they give you free wax with your purchase of a board which is nice.They have a dog that roams around in the store. Super nice and friendly. I just have sensitive allergies, so I kinda couldnt linger around as long as I wanted to as a result. While some would like this type of home environment. Wasnt super convenient for me. Hence the 4 stars instead of 5.

Great shop with a massive selection. the Owner was cool and super helpful in selecting a board that was right for me and my level of surfing. Im only on the island for a few months and so being able to buy a board and then have the shop sell it for me (for a reasonably small fee) when I leave is totally awesome.

This place is a surfers or aspiring Surfers Paradise. The customer service was amazing. Education was willingly given to educate our purchase. Everything has great prices with a great selection, no matter what you are looking for. I would suggest this to anybody that wants to Surf, thinking about surfing, or just want some wall art. I had a great experience here, Im not a surfer but I came in looking for a quality used paddle board. Everyone in the shop was knowledgeable and they had a great selection, they helped me pick one out, even loaded it into my car for me. I did inquire about surfboards to learn on and they had some suggestions without being pushy. Will be returning and recommending to others.

I dropped my surfboard off here to have a ding repaired after visiting Oahu. They repaired the ding and shipped it back to Florida for me. The repair was excellent, the board was shipped very quickly, and best of all it arrived in Florida professionally packaged and completely undamaged. The owner and the other employees that I talked to on the phone were all very friendly and efficient. Great service!

I’ve bought and sold multiple boards here. The customer service is out of this world. No matter how busy the shop is they take time to make sure you find the exact board that’s right for you. Twice I’ve told Alex exactly what I’m looking for, he disappears into the back, and comes back with the perfect board exactly as I described. Extremely great service, Alex and his crew are very attentive and helpful with both finding boards to buy and selling on consignment. Truly a gem of a place to buy surfboards. The old address is still being used by google for some reason, the new location is around the corner to the right from where google takes you and actually has some parking. Made the mistake of going to the old address to sell a board and found a totally different surf shop that wouldnt tell us where these guys went. The service has always been the best here and I cannot recommend it enough!

You owe it to your own wallet and the environment to come here before buying a new board! The owner was super helpful, pulling out around 15 boards just based on length/width/volume that I mentioned I was looking for. Almost all the boards were right around what I was looking for, for better prices than I could find searching craigslist for 2 months. Before buying ANY board, check here first. You just might save a couple hundred and get a better board.

Although Ive never surfed (and probably never will), I sometimes need surfboards for props or signage. Not only does he have a huge selection, but he has a back room with boards down to $50 that are still very useable. Super nice guy and I wish my dog could do as many tricks as his can!

I consigned my board here in December of 2015 when I had to move off of the island. I never got the check once the board sold, then called Alex and asked for an update. He said he had sent it to the wrong address and would resend it. The check never arrived. Ive since emailed and called Alex multiple times and he has stopped answering my messages...He effectively stole my surfboard.I would not recommend using this business. This is simply predatory behavior on behalf of the company, since Alex knew I was leaving the islands and that I would have little recourse if he simply sold my board and pocketed the money.***EDIT: (July 8th, 2017)I received an email from Alex only after posting my initial Google review. He inaccurately responded to my initial Google review and stated that I said things via email that I did not. More disappointingly, he implied that if I did not remove my negative Google review he would not pay me. At this point I do not expect to get paid, but will gladly update/revise this review if my situation changes. I am simply trying to save those moving off the island the same hassle that Ive faced with this company, and feel that public consumer feedback is an important part of capitalism. I replied to Alexs angry email regarding my Google review and have not heard from him since (its now been over a week).

Ive bought and sold multiple boards and surf fins here. Love his new hanging inventory and organization. MUCH easier to look at hundreds of boards.As much as I love a new board, its great to recycle and reuse boards, they can be toxic to the environment.

I was looking through craigslist for a surfboard and had plans to stop at 5 different peoples houses to look at boards. I stumbled upon this shop and was greeted with an enthusiastic Hello and amazing service. These guys are great. They always take care of us when we come in. I like having several used boards when I go kitesurfing. They always have a big selection of very low priced boards to choose from.

I pop in occasionally, and they have some unique surfboards all shape and sizes. Some of them have great pricing. I go only occasionally because I walk out with a surfboard .

Arrived from Gold Coast Australia with my own board, but was looking for a board for my 14 yr old daughter as difficult to hire something that small on North Shore. The guys answered my email immediately and when we went in, there was a great selection. Found a perfect 54, with a lot of volume for small waves. Shes lovin it up at Haliewa. I’ve bought a few boards from Used Surfboards Hawaii. Always had good experiences. I recommend this shop to many friends over the years. However, the last time my friend from from Europe wanted to ship a board from Hawaii to Europe and the owner said no problem... So she bought the board, surfed it once, then we go to ship it and the cost to ship was $120 more than the owner originally quoted, he didn’t ship it out for over 5 weeks after we dropped it off, and then the guy would not return any of our calls when we tried to check on the status... no follow up. No tracking number. Just straight up bad business etiquette. Rude. I’m done recommending you guys and will buy my boards elseware. Go back to the mainland or try adding some aloha to your company culture.

If you want to sell your board, call ahead and describe it, instead of just hauling it there. Apparently the guy did not like the dings on my board and said he could not store it pending sale because the storage space was not big enough. So if your board is anything less than mint condition, call ahead.On the buy side, whatever their website search says their stock includes, is what they have.

0 stars. I contacted Alex the owner, a six weeks ago about selling a surfboard. He said he was interested and that he would also post it on craigslist, he then told me to come down to the shop so he could take pictures of it. I told him that I wanted to talk to him personally about the board because it is an expensive collector board with some history. So we set up a time to meet the following day. Came in the next day, he was not there, very disappointed. So I let his employee take pictures of the board and I left a print out of info on the board to give to Alex, he told me it should be posted in a few days. After about ten days I searched his site, all the categories and craigslist, I did not see it. I called Alex he told me he was busy and would call me right back, but didnt. I continued to search the site up until the time of this review and did not see it. Over the coarse of about six weeks, about six or seven times I called him and said I dont see the ad, he told me the same thing that he would check the site and call me right back, but didnt. After this review came out he sent me a link for the post. He didnt use the info I left for him about the board, the spelling of the shaper was wrong, the price he listed was half of what it was supposed to be.n

He went to great lengths to pair me with the right board (even sourcing a board that was not in his immediate stock), instead of just looking to make a quick sale. He then packaged and shipped the boards out to me at a very reasonable fee. What I like best is that through USH, Alex is promoting sustainable and environmentally responsible business practices by giving good quality used surfboards, that likely would otherwise end up in a landfill, an extended lease on life. I essentially got two awesome custom-boards at a fraction of the price I would have paid had I gone retail or shaper-direct. Plus his invaluable guidance and insight from years of surfing experience – for FREE. Going forward, I won’t buy another surfboard without talking to Alex Utal first.

I bought a used surfboard. Many types are considerably cheaper than other shops. If you want to see a cheap board, it will guide you to the back warehouse. The owner is very kind and nice! I recommend it.
