4/25/2021 Update: My teenagers loves the place; went back to take better look at what they have. There are varieties of books, different categories of course. But...the price...wow! After buying its like a library to keep at home. There is always Kindle but my youngest likes actual books. I guess its good to teach them to love a book in their hand huh? Overall, the store is nice, clean, lots of things to look at. Like the STEM section; great for little scientists. Upgrading to 4 stars until we are back for another visit. π4/24/2021: Seem like prices went up? Have to go back to explore more so this is not my final rating.
Always in search for K-pop. Im looking for others and not for myself of course π. Their collection is in the media section straight back. If your looking for the music, its here. But for the devout fans who need more NCT, youll need to try the specialty sores in town and pearl city. Here is a good start if youre already at Ala Moana.
I WAS CALLED A LIAR, MOCKED AND LAUGHED AT by a tall girl with curly hair who works at the coffee shop inside Barnes & Noble. It is acceptable to inform guests on policies about buying something if you are going to sit down- that is an expected and common rule. What is not acceptable is calling a guest a liar, mocking and laughing at them if they change their mind. My reason for changing my mind was that their tables were too small to hold two laptops and an ipad (not that I should have to explain myself). I am in shock and disbelief. Reading through reviews it sounds like this isnt the first time this has happened. If Barnes and Noble knows whats good for them they would hire people who better represent their company and who know how to communicate policies respectfully (the bare minimum). This is so humiliating for them. I would not recommend coming here as long as that immature employee works there. What a disappointment. I will be taking this up with higher management. No one deserves to be treated that way.
I love this place, been coming here for years, but I do only have one problem. So this no sitting rule is a bit ridiculous especially when Im trying to reach the bottom shelves, which is where you keep the knitting books btw, and Im on my knees because my knees and ankles arent exactly the greatest, and Im told multiple times to not sit. Did it ever maybe dawn on some people that for some people these bottom shelves are inaccessible? Beyond that, love the coffee shop, most employees are helpful and nice, the bathrooms are always tidy and well marked, and everything is nicely organized.
Sadly on of the last book stores standing :(And just what you would want out of a B&N... Best sellers, classics and magazines for dayz :)
One of my favorite places to visit in Ala Moana. Its one of the last big bookstores around. A nice place to check books in person and theres a coffee shop inside if you decide to stay a bit and read.
My sons and I love this place! Book stores are getting fewer and fewer and weve always loved Barnes & Noble whether on the mainland or here. This store is huge, clean, with tons of merchandise and the staff is great ππ»ππ»
I was happy that the book store finally opened its been a long time first thing I went to the movie section what was new they said some cant get because of the Disney Channel Amazon prime and others very disappointed well next time again Barnes & Noble happy to see you open. D Kagami
Okay, I like Barnes and Noble, but I am not able to see items on the bottom shelves unless I sit down. They keep saying I am not allowed to sit down. Makes me not want to visit.
Extremely disappointing, walked in to the cafe to study and get something to eat and was told we had to purchase something before sitting. That was reasonable, but it was when we decided we didnt want anything that we decided to leave and the entire team laughed and called my partner and I liars. That was extremely disrespectful and unneeded. Both of us have worked in customer and guest services, and we know that if we had ever treated a guest like that we would be facing disciplinary action. Probably never coming back to this location.
I was in the anime section and I saw some Asian chick with a big beautiful behind. Best experience in my life
Place was smaller than the one in Maui, the manga section was amazing
My complaint is with the cafe. On Saturday, March 20, 2021, I visited the store with my teenage grandchildren. I purchased over $50 worth of books. My grandson was still looking, so my granddaughter and I went to the Cafe. My receipt indicates. I paid for my purchase at 3:46 pm. I did not look at the exact time I received my beverage and sat down, but it usually takes between 3 and 5 minutes. So it was about 3:50.At 4:20 texted my grandson that it was time to leave. As we were gathering our things at exactly4:22, a woman who claimed to be the manager, approached us and said, there is a 30 minute limit and you have been here WAY beyond 30 minutes. At the most we were at the table for an entire 2 minutes beyond the 30. There were empty tables and no one was waiting. When I pulled out my receipt and asked how I could have been there way longer than 30 minutes, she scurried away and mumbled something about writing down an incorrect time somewhere.I understand the 30 minute rule and had people been waiting we would have left far earlier. At most, a simple. We have a 30 minute limit would have been enough. But she was extremely rude and since I noticed another review complaining about the same behavior, maybe it is time for the store manager to observe what is happening in their cafe and take appropriate measures.
Barnes and Noble one of the last hold outs in physical book stores, even though you can get anything online these days its still nice to be able to go to a store and find that book you were looking for. They have huge racks of magazines to look through as well. If you need to order something dont worry they have you covered as well. Hopefully B&N will stick around and hold out as most places close their doors and succumb to online everything.
I dont shop here enough, and I really should. Every single time I leave, I leave with a handful of books. Today, it was these books, all on sale and all supremely satisfying. Love the knowledgable staff and the catalogue variety. Especially enjoy ordering online and picking up in person. For avid customers, recommend purchasing their club membership, saving 10% on all purchases.
Cant beat a good book!Ive been trying to learn how to read and write Thai and couldnt find a good mobile app that wasnt too expensive.Found the perfect book here and really though, nothing beats a physical book in your hand with exercises, practice words, and even an answer key in the back.
Always like to browse through your store. Associate are always available for helping when in need.
Super cool place ....everything you need and a great section for Dads to sit and have Delicious beverage....
Staff are very friendly and can help find any book you need. They were sold out of the book my sister wanted but got some good alternative reccomendation by the staff. They also have new release books as well.
The service was soooo slow and both the workers had quite an attitude when I ordered, on top of that when I asked for extra Carmel they didnβt understand the first time so when I said it politely again they proceeded to give be mostly Carmel. Like Iβm not joking half this drink is Carmel. And they bumped up prices too. They made me wait about 30 minutes for my drink and continued to have a snarky attitude.the place I go to enjoy reading made me extremely uncomfortable
Love barns and noble so very much though I do with they could add some bungou stray dogs, chainsaw man, and possibly neon genesis envangelion in the manga section but besides that itβs a wonderful store not just for manga but many other genera
Nice selection of material! Books, magazines, toys, other media, etc.Our go to spot for kid gifts! The staff are helpful, sparce, but helpful.
The staff was helpful but their lack of bestselling books in stock makes it hard to give them 5 stars.
I was disappointed in my most recent experience at B&N. Service at the Cafe was substandard, and the general vibe of the store was dismal.
Big selection didnt have what I wanted but there was a Starbucks
With covid restrictions lowered, there are more people inside but still comfortably spaced out. There is a good feeling inside and it is nice to browse without being rushed.
Got to love the classic book store with fresh coffee in the air. This store has a lot of books for all ages
On the grould parking level. Nice and clean.
Always helpful, the line moves quick, and they get ordered books in very quickly.
Love the new way they section the areas of the store. Lol staff may have to be more on their toes to catch people hiding and sitting now the.Well unless we can now.......secret reader coming to a barnes and noble near you. Xd
Nice place to find any or most books you looking for.And they have a lot of other stuffs too.Workers are very generous and polite. They all have great customer service.Best of all they have a snack shop in there to which is great .... love it π
Always a good time in a bookstore. So many great authors.
Our favorite book store! Conveniently located at Ala Moana so thereβs always ample parking. Since COVID they only allow a certain amount of people inside the store at once so if itβs busy you may have to wait outside in line to be let it, usually not very long though. Itβs a great place for families, our son loves going through the isles looking at all the books. We canβt hang in there as usual because of COVID but the atmosphere is still welcoming and the staff is always very friendly and helpful. Starbucks is also still open but youβre not allowed to have your drink/food inside the store.
Alot of people order and shop online these days. I love to browse and shop live in a store that you can touch, see and enjoy walking down aisles of shelves filled with books of adventure. Let us all learn a new language, start reading a mystery book or find your favorite childhood story from Dr. Suess ~ Green Eggs and Ham. Youll be able to do just that at this place.
Great place for kids books of all ages plus some good fiction books for adults. My grandsons love coming here to get new books to read
Nice staff and clean, steep prices
Magazine section is well stocked again after taking a hit due to Covid.
I love this store it is fun to shop and look for gifts or something for myself and have a cup of coffee and snack the workers are wonderful and it is clean I go to this place when I need some quiet and peace from the fast pace of our lives in this world i can relax check out reading a book or etc Im thankful ..for all the workers to make us customers feel safe and happy to have this store to shop at thank you for all you do for us customers I do appreciate you all be safe and keep up the well done workπΌπi will keep coming back to your storeseeπyou soonπ
One of the last standing book stores. Enjoy before it disappears too!
Havent been here awhile, but love the looks of the store and love coming here!
Very clean and great selection. Love that there are so many Japanese literatures!
The lack of Hawaiian Language books was a shock to me. Several other languages. The local interest section in the childrens book section you would think is fairly easy to spot but its not really. It took walking the entire area and then speaking with someone to notice it. So it isnt really a highlight. But they did have. Fairly good variety of them. There is an exceptionally large section of Christian type books. If youre interested in that sort of thing, as well as new age and other religions. I find myself often drawn to the philosophy section.
Great place I always live going there to find my favorite authors and at great prices.
Nice book store. I like the various selections. It also seems clean abd well-organized. The amount of people allowed inside are limited, so it doesnt get too crowded. The downside is that there tends to be a long line in front of the store.
I will be doing alot of business with Barnes and Noble for Im working on educating myself in different cultural societies and to improve my life.Any kind of guided schooling I can involve myself for the sole purposes of furthering my education Im all for. I may even enroll in a community college, for I just need a couple of courses for a degree.
Nothing like diving into a good book...
Theres nothing to dislike, I mean, its Barnes & Noble. They have books, Toys, Gizmos, and Coffee... In a nice atmosphere.
Store is clean and well-kept. Staff are friendly and very helpful.
Went in was looking at my usual section planning my next purchases around what I want and will get. Went to starbucks in the store just wanted a water apparently you cannot buy drinks or have them in store but yet theyβre open. The older on (11/4/20 3:38pm) didnβt want to give me a cup of water because she judged me on my appearance and I do work a full time and I came from the beach (no sand)Just disappointed do people not do nice things anymore? I also said I was on my way out out the store if I could get a water she said they had water bottles I could buy. Not the point. Iβll just go to the Starbucks in Target in the same mall they make coffee better anyways and have such a great team and always give me my FREE CUP OF WATER no issues whatβs so ever.
OK, so its a pandemic. But I got kicked out of the otherwise completely empty cafe seating area because my 30 minutes were up. There was no one waiting. No other establishment I visited in Honolulu did this. I had a very forgettable snack and iced coffee beverage. Not up to usual standard
Well stocked store. Very crowded though...no social distancing.
Only bookstore in Honolulu so Im happy they survived the pandemic. Friendly & well informed staff!
I love this place because it sells real books. You can hold them in your hands and feel how beautiful it is to have a book in your hands
Great selection and nice quiet place to browse.
Love books, magazines and music items. Got to keep this business alive.
Fantastic Support. Had a question re my Nook and the gentleman at customer service was bright, polite and answered all my questions.
Selections are not quite as good as BEFORE. The last of the big bookstores. Please patronize otherwise theyll be gone too. A bit pricey.
This place is an experience, not just a bookstore...
Barnes & Noble is one off my favorite places to shop!!I can not leave the store with out purchasing a few books. The customer service is awesome!
It wasnt even busy and help was no where to be found.
I have always liked Barnes and Noble. The people there are kind. Once, I was there to buy a gift card and the woman told me about the small boxes available for the giftcards, which cheered me up incredibly. I bought my giftcard, was allowed to retrieve a box and be on my merry way. This location does have a Starbucks within, though beverages are only to be consumed out of the shop since the pandemic. Hopefully this changed within the next year. Large selections of books, games and vinyls and they are willing to have things brought to the store if they dont have what you are looking for on the shelves.
Books and more! With a majority of Oahus bookstores cleaned out, its a privilege to have Barnes and Noble still around. More than a bookstore though, there is music, a small selection of art supplies, and other little knick knacks.Coffee shop in the store with seats. Its okay to stand around and read, just dont get caught blocking an isle lounging on the floor.
Keep up to date with fashion, autos, interior/ exterior real estate trends, etc. Yes, they have a wide variety of magazines that helps me visualize my next investments. Go BITCOIN
Standard 4 star because its the watered down island version.
Great selections, easy to find specific selections, definitely great bargains on lots of books. My personal favorite is the amount of different types & varieties of Adult Coloring Books available for purchase. Not to mention last but not least, a great readers atmosphere altogether.
Love spending time in B&N. Books are great gifts too!
This is such a great B&N. Its so big! The childrens area is cute with a little seating area if you want to read with your kid. Fantastic selection of books in my opinion. They have a board game section with fun titles. The line can get long to check out but the cashiers are pretty speedy so its not too bad a wait. The employees throughout the store are very helpful if you need assistance finding something. The cafe to the side is nice with a large dining space. The bathrooms are kept clean. We shop here every time were at Ala Moana, sometimes its the main reason we came.
Love it its been so long since Ive been in a book store since the pandemic
Got book I wanted and a cup of coffee beautiful
Wether its books, gifts, music or a light snack and coffee, you will find everything here and so much more. I highly recommend a visit. Bravo!
Very good assortment of Hawaiian literature.
Love the store but they need to reopen the bathroom.
Great. Got 2 books. Happy
Great place to read and get away from the outside noise. Introvert life
Gorgeous tasteful decor, tremendous food.
Love this place, great prices
If you like to buy books, they have many books for sale!
Bought a Gift Card. Lined up to go into store. Went directly to long line to buy card. Fast service. 4 cashiers open. Car, store, car in less than 20 min.
Nice selection but over priced. A good place to check out book and then find cheaper on line
Clean, organized and friendly staff. Covid19 compliant. I feel safe shopping at this business.
Just recently moved here Iβve always loved barnes and noble so was so happy i found one here! wish there was one closer by to where I am in Kapolei but it was so worth it! the options for manga and light novels dont dissapoint and the staff is very friendly π
Lots of good deals on books, toys and games
Loved the social distancing this store provided. Had to wait about 10 minutes in line. But well worth it!!!
Awesome books here!
My grandaughter and I went book hunting π
Ive always loved Barnes & Noble and this store doesnt disappoint. It is the only on on Oahu and in the weird ground floor level of Ala Moana, so it is a little challenging to find. However, they have everything you want. The huge kids section is great considering I have a kindergartener that loves to read and I can get capability appropriate books immediately instead of having to wait. During COVID they require you to use hand sanitizer and there are announcements about the space limits, but they really arent pushy and you can still have a traditional book store experience.
I dont any place except ala miana center couldnt find im looking for.
Good place to study
Barnes and nobles my favorite place back when I was living in NJ. So it reminds me of home β€
