Great gear
I ordered a printer from this store over a month ago, their website said the printer was in stock, so I paid for expedited shipping. Almost two weeks passed and my order still hadn’t shipped, so I messaged them asking where my printer was. They informed me the printer was on backorder, which would have been really helpful to know prior to placing my order, or even after my payment went through. Instead I had to go out of my way to find information that should have been freely given. They said the order should ship with the next batch of printers they received, but they didn’t know when that was. I checked back in a week later and they said, yes, they got printers, but not enough to fill my order. I have been checking back in weekly since placing the order and every time they can tell me nothing about when my printer will ship. Sometimes it’s “oh we don’t know” others it’s “it should ship in a week!”. It’s been over a month and it still hasn’t shipped and I’m still getting unhelpful responses. I wanted to support a local business over buying from amazon, but I’m regretting that decision. I will not be ordering from them again.
Two stars for the fact that the equipment was actually good. 0 stars for customer service. I rented a ton of equipment and was to return by 7pm on a specific day. Because of a big accident on the road, we were stuck in traffic for over 4 hours and unable to come by 7pm. We informed them well in advance and requested they waive the late fee because of the extenuating circumstances. The manager lied and made up some excuse as to why he couldnt and when I pressed him, he basically admitted it was a lie and then switched to the I dont have control over those decisions. When we did return, a lady informed us that theyd need to check the equipment, which is fair. When we asked how long it would take she very rudely said itll take as long as it takes. Then they call us and tell us theyre charging a fee to clean the backdrop. Apparently they dont clean the backdrop between rentals and its up to managements discretion whether they want to charge you the cleaning fee (and trust me, they will, because theyre after every $ they can get).I would highly recommend just renting out a photo studio via peerspace which already has equipment there. That way you dont have to lug around this heavy equipment AND you dont have to deal with unsympathetic, dishonest, and greedy management.
Was in a panic to save photographs lent to me by a local newspaper, that is moving all their records due to sale of their building. 2 years ago they took a picture of my son I wanted to get copies of. Hard to find any place that deals with film anymore. I called and talked to the staff here, who reassured me that they could take care of my needs. Fair prices and understanding staff. I highly recommend.
DAN!!! DAN DAN DAN!!! I cannot thank this man enough! I called him from a few blocks over, I was in the middle of a photosession and my battery died, my back up battery wasnt working either...and my back up camera was not in this particular camera bag (omg, the setting for a horrific day)...I called Unique Photo, he told me exactly where to find the store, I ran up there and actually rented an entirely different camera...He was such a huge help, he was answering questions before I even asked them...He knows his stuff and Im so grateful he was there during my nightmare scenario...The day couldve gone so much worse if he wasnt there. So informative, so friendly! If I could give 10 stars, I would. Thank you so much! :D
I needed to rent 2 lenses for my camera and place an order online couple of days before pick up date. People who work here were very nice and my lenses were ready by the time I arrived. Drop of was quick and easy too. Thank you, will use them again
Its the companys team members that make Unique Photo truly Unique. All of the people here I had the experience of working with were incredible, especially Daniel Ryoo. He listened to my project, gave me a detailed list of options, and walked me through to the correct tools. Very impressed. Keep up the great work!
I took a photography class here. Excellent intro to photography class. Mike is a great instructor, knowledgeable, patient and well versed in the use of cameras and equipment.
Best rental place in the tri-state area. They have the best prices!!!
I found this Store to be completely useless... when i asked for 35mm B&W film the idiot asked for the speed. looked around his closet pulled out a 10 pack and a 5 pack of 120 mm and rang it up as 35 mm put it in the bag. When i came back the next day and confronted him about it he denied it and wouldnt refund my money. These twits understand photography at the same level a seagull understands theoretical physics.
I needed 4x5 slide film. I ordered the 4x5 slide film Wednesday night, I put it down for two day air shipping. They sent it out at the end of the day Thursday. Now the film is getting there Monday paying 25 dollars extra for two day air shipping was pointless. I could’ve left it at free shipping and would’ve gotten it Monday as well. Thanks for nothing, the film isn’t making it on time.
Ive been able to accomplish so much more in my videography career because of this specific Unique Photo location. If I need to rent anything, I can reserve it online and then swing through Hoboken on my way into the city and grab whatever I need, from camera bodies, to wireless lav mics, to lenses. The rental prices are top notch - way better than comparable locations in NYC. I just had a sensor cleaning done on my GH5. My camera had 5-6 dark spots due to dust, and I was in a panic. I called them up and ran over in the morning. It was a rush job, done in around 90 minutes. This saved my ASS. Instead of losing a day of shooting, I was able to get everything done and keep my client happy. Without Unique Photo I would not have been able to get as far as I have in my career.
Very friendly and helpful, but its only a service and rental location. No floor models to test.
Great store verity of collections, used or new you can get trial before buy
I have shopped here for film, straps, batteries, for a myriad of vintage film cameras ranging from a Pentax 645N (Film) to a Leicaflex Standard Mk2 (Batteries and Film), and even a Zeiss Contarex Super (Film, Strap). I have dealt with Dan, Shannon, Ivania, and many others and have always been treated with the utmost in respect and kindness. In turn I love sharing what new cameras I have stumbled into, seeing works done by other photographers, and even trying out new films that they have in stock. The place is unpretentious, has great hours, and while its hard to find (its in the basement of an office building near the Hoboken PATH), its no-frills, yet easy-to-work-with environment is very conducive to an expedient shopping experience. They even develop 35mm and 120 film at great costs, with consistently great results. The only caveat I have is that the Hoboken annex only takes credit cards, but otherwise its a FANTASTIC place to shop for film, batteries, and other camera needs.Jason
Very pleasant staff. Wish they would run extended rent specials like other companies.
This is the second time Ive tried to make it happen with this place but yet again their unprofessinalism has turned me away. I called this morning to see if the Hoboken location had a basic pure white 4ft roll of seamless, the kid on the phone said there would be plenty and to just go and pick it up. I asked him to make sure and to possibly put it on hold, he said Ill let someone know, dont worry itll be there.I drove out of my way to go there because most places in NYC are closed on Saturdays. Upon entering the people working in the Hoboken location played dumb and didnt know how to respond or accommodate me, or even sympathize that their call center is being ran by an uneducated teenanger. I called back to speak to a manager and it happened to be the guy in Hoboken who was useless and couldnt give me an answer as to why they would tell me to go there confirming the product was there. This place is a joke ran by a bunch of photographers who cant have a real career so they work in a camera store.Shop on Amazon or shop at the big boys in NYC. Steer clear of this place.
Hard to find, but very helpful.
Very good place for lens rentals
Good rental equipment and great prices
Super convenient to access from Manhattan.
Great little place, amazing prices
A couple caveats: its in the basement of an office building; you have to take the elevator down to LL. They dont sell or develop film here. New location is mainly for classes and rentals, not retail.
This location is just for pickup. not shopping
Still my go to place for all my photography needs.
