I love this store. Great products, sales, and presentation. The only complaint I have are the 2 rude cashiers. It feels like they get PAID to have an attitude with you. My overall experiences at this location have been great, tho.

This place drives me nuts. Lose orders, but great customer service. Next trip get a guy who has no clue and wont stop giving advice when he has no clue, but they finally have the soil compost you are waiting for and purple bell pepper plants. Lol

Like most other home depots, it can be hard to find someone to help you but when you do, they are very helpful. I have bought 2 appliances there and have been happy with both the selection and the help I have received. If you are lucky like I was with one of the choices, you will actually find something in stock, otherwise (since it is an island after all) be prepared for a several week delay in getting something. The online ordering process is not helpful since it doesnt offer a way to filter by what is and what is not available in Hawaii until after you make a choice. Both appliances I purchased were delivered free and both times the delivery guys were super friendly and treated my home (and my dog) with respect.

Nice store, employees are very helpful. Limited stock n if youre looking for speciality items normally found at mainland Home Depot... Youre outta luck here on big island.

Very crowded, little to know social distancing, no enforcement of mask wearing. So this is a high risk environment for those who are medically fragile. Staff was somewhat helpful (gave me the asile number, but not assistance in finding exactly what I was looking for), lady at self checkout helped me find a register and kept the lines going.

We bought a riding lawn mower and scheduled a pick up date. The Hilo Hone Depot sold our lawn mower that we had already already paid for to another customer. Whenever I go into this HD and have a question, several of the Hilo HD’s employees will try to avert their gaze to dodge helping you. It’s quite comical. I’ve never seen another HD’s employees do this at any of the other island stores-Safeway, Target, KTA. If you order online and arrange for a curbside pickup using HD’s app, don’t expect for an employee to bring your paid merchandise to the curbside pick up. You’ll have to go stand in line for 10-15 minutes at customer service after already waiting 25 minutes in your car for your curbside order and watch the 4 male employees assigned to curbside pickup moving slower than molasses in the back stock area where curbside merchandise is stored. Then the employees will say they never were alerted about your merchandise when you have the alert notification on your Home Depot app. If you go into the Hilo Home Depot with low expectations, you won’t be disappointed.

Dont ever pre-order anything for pickup. It shows they have stock then your order gets canceled. Too may employees that seem to do nothing but stand around. What I wanted showed 32 in stock get there and zero is on the shelf. Ask a person in an orange apron and oh.. we don t have that. Went and demanded to speak with a manager who amazing they were on the top shelf and got one for me.

I ordered an 8by10 shed by Home Depot. My order was picked up by a professional driver I hired and with whom I worked already a few times, a reliable and trustworthy person. The pickup was scheduled for Wednesday and the driver was there waiting for about an hour and going away empty for the employees could not find my order, the 8by10 shed! The same thing happened the Friday after that. Saturday was the last day of the 7 days pickup rule and I called customer service to extend the pickup until Monday. She blamed my driver for not waiting long enough to pick up the order and she also wanted to cancel my order when not picked up by Sunday. My driver needed three attempts and also the third attempt on Saturday almost failed, the shed could not be found and my driver waited about 1 hour on it. After two failed pickup attempts Home Depot still needed to call its employee home on Saturday to help with finding the order! I reimbursed my driver for his time and fuel loss. The shed was needed to store items during construction work and the delay with the pickup caused a two weeks delay with the construction.

I usually dont have the best of luck with Home Depot. To the point that since I live on Oahu I avoid them after ordering an appliance. But since I was visiting Hilo there was no Lowes or City Mill to go to so I end up there most of the time.This time I bought a defective door stop and the customer service person was gonna let me exchange it but a manager or supervisor came by and said I needed to have the plastic bag it came in...seriously? For crying out loud you made me go all the way back home and dig into my trash to amazingly find the plastic bag so I could exchange a 7 dollar or so item that you couldnt resale anyway since it was broken. Why not just let me get another one and then put the broken one into that bag?Anyway as luck would have it ended up going back a few days later and a wonderful customer service lady (Monica) helped me to get a new door stop and also helped me to get some potting soil from outside. Super helpful and great attitude to HELP your CUSTOMER. Bean counting managers might save you 7 bucks on a return but good workers keep us going back to spend hundreds of not thousands.

Usually has what I need to get the home and work projects done. There website/app need improvement when it come to shipping and availability. When stock is low you cant depend on it being if stock at all. Also often says will ship to Hawaii but wont tell that it cant until your about to check out.

Michelle (at appliance department) was kind and professional; she helped me to order a replacement dryer and made sure that the correct accessories would be there during installation. New dryer works as expected. Thank you!

Great stock and good service.

Customer service is iffy. Most are friendly. A lot of people are stationed in areas that they have no experience in. If you know what you are looking for they are usually adequately stocked. If dealing with power tool problems, youll be directed to Milwaukee Mike. This guy is useless unless hes flirting or trying to make commission on a sale. (Yup, your on blast chump) Prices are standard. If you have the time, money and gas, go to HPM or Lowes on Kona side.

Good selection of products. Seasonal flowers and vegetables at the garden center.

I wrote a review recently about employees having mixed responses to special orders. Some just say no, and others smile and place it. In the past two years I’ve gotten a 12v fridge, propane stove, flooring and this week my farmhouse sink with all the accessories. While you might have to go back a couple of times to place the order, as long as it says you can get it shipped to the store, you can. Just be persistent and friendly, they’ve been told both ways and it’s hit and miss but in the end, I’ve gotten everything. They’ve ALWAYS been friendly when they bring it to you. No more big purchases in my future, but thanks for the variety of memories!

Last two big purchases no help and we loaded both things our selves. One time the person who was going to help us load was rude to us when asked to help and then proceeded to walk away, to a new customer, instead of helping us. Second time the person at the register told us to wait up front outside and someone would come out and help us load it. We waited 15-20 minutes before struggling and loading it our self.

They probably have what you need but good luck finding it. Customer service could be much better.

Special ordering is hit and miss, but you can get it! They seem to have mixed information about items that are offered to ship to store/home for online inventory. I’ve gotten everything I wanted (propane stove, 12v fridge and a farmhouse sink)but it takes caressing the situation. You will be told no... we don’t do special orders, or go to the specific department. You will see that it says it can be shipped to the Hilo store, but some just don’t even want to try. There were three employees sitting/standing and talking, but nobody wanted to help me in the kitchen department. I was told Home Depot does NOT get anything shipped anymore, even though the website says yes and I overheard the one kitchen specialist (that was with a customer), state that you could. This employee is like many and said no...they didn’t get the memo. We do not place orders, the customer does. But you cannot complete the order through the website even when it says yes. So I went to the service desk and she, with a smile took my order and it went through just fine and she never tried to say no or anything. Previously, I started at the service desk and was turned away, but was able to do so at the specific department. Once, I was told no and came back a different day and tried again with a different person and got the order placed. So, the point is that they are getting conflicting information or just don’t want to, but they can place orders and I’ve gotten everything I wanted that was available to ship to Hilo from the website... eventually....

In my home town store everyone is so friendly and helpful with plenty ALOHA everyday.....I was pleased to apply for a home Depot credit card at today atcheckout and i saved $$ if i was approved or not .... I only spent half of what my total was!! For real home depot in hilo hawaii

My wife and I went into The Home Depot Saturday morning to buy paint. The young (who may have been of Japanese descent), was phenomenal. He used his extensive paint knowledge to help us find a solution, all the while, hustling around keeping the line moving during a moderately busy time. His upbeat personality and Happy demeanor actually made the experience very nice. Phenomenal customer service.

They have everything you could possibly what related to home improvement. They could better educate employees on products that they sell. The employees seem to know where products are but when asked thier opinion or how to use a product they fall short.

I love the stuff there but Ive tried calling the store for days and every single line it takes me to automatically hangs up. Either something is wrong with the phones or people there are too lazy to answer the phone.

Good service need to work on answering the phone though

One star in regard to the phone service. Waited on the phone for over an hour to get a hold of no one from the customer service desk. Tried getting a hold of other departments to transfer me over only to still not talk to anyone. Phone service for all locations on the island are terrible. In store, almost no one asks if i need help. I can literally use theyre stairs and equipment to get items i need from the excess shelving because the floor shelves almost never get stocked. Terrible.

The associate who helped us in the flooring department was very courteous and knowledgeable with our flooring order. She was very pleasant to work with.

They have a great monopoly on hardware and very lack luster customer service. Their instant refunds take up to 10 days. Floor employees avoid customer interactions like its the plague. Customer service counter has been a mixed bag of marbles at best, sometimes theyre too lazy to check on items and are rude and degrading and other times a younger cashier is friendly. Im not sure why but the employees of an age to remember good customer service refuse to practice it and the young kids are pleasant. One woman in garden was helpful upon request, one time. The worst home depot of all the ones Ive ever shopped at, if a small town in the Midwest does better you may have problems to address.

Amazing customer service this morning. Lumber guy was beyond accommodating. Store greeter was the sweetest and even threw on her gloves to load my 2x4s. It was all unexpected but very appreciated. Mahalo Hilo for the aloha!

They miss a lot of business and frustrate a lot of paying customers by never answering the phones. Phone service is terrible. They have a monopoly in Hilo for hardware and appliances, yet the customer service is horrible. Even in the store, its hard to get assistance. I ordered a large freezer months ago and it was supposed to arrive weeks ago, so I called to get an update on my appliance order, and no one will answer the phone - when they do answer, they say theyll call me back and they dont. Ive seriously called 2 dozen times. Ive paid you thousands of dollars for appliances over the past couple years, Can you please just give me two minutes to tell me where my order is??? Why dont you help out the community and hire another person or two to answer phones - you would seriously get more business that way. No excuse to be so short staffed when many people need a job and many others are trying to buy expensive things from your store. Its ridiculous. Wish there was somewhere else I could take my business, but its hard to get appliances in Hilo -- maybe next time Ill just pay the extra travel fee for Lowes or Home depot in KONA since they at least answer their phones and have great customer service, it would be worth it at this point

I Like tools. I carve and build. I enjoy my time. So I like to get what I need in one stop. If I need I go other places but prefer Homedepot. They all have same layout. So I am never wandering around lost. Lol. Be safe and Love all!

Horrible customer service! Specifically in the blinds/flooring department. No one knowledgeable is ever there and if they do its early in the morning and never during the day... Even calling in the morning is a hit or miss. Very unethical. Im pretty sure its because Hilo Home Depot doesnt have enough competition so they dont bother to worry about customer service. I heard others are having the same problem with their blinds as well. If lowes was in Hilo we would be there 100% for home improvement.

This was the busiest place even during the stay at home portion of the pandemic. .. surprisingly so. Made quite a few trips here in last two months to get this or that and cashier service was top notch for this crutch toting slightly disabled elder. Yesterday I popped in to pick up an air conditioning duct as ours had cracked beyond repair. They didnt have the right size but they did have portable air conditioners available.I was using a hadicapped electric cart and wondered how I was going to negotiate getting the air conditioner to the cashier and to the car. I caught the attention of a young male employee named Epoch who jumped in to help me in all areas. I cant thank him enough for his kindness. Home depot needs more employees like him.Got the new unit home and installed and running in no time much to our overheated relief.
