They are chill people. Nice and not very talkative but chill. My daughter is renting a trumpet, great option before she decides to buy as she is new to this instrument. For $18 a month for minimum 3 months she gets to learn the Trumpet and decides if she enjoys it. We may buy from MIR in the future if they take care of us.
We came in thinking about an electric guitar for my son ⚡ they took the time to understand what we wanted, show us several choices, talk about the pros and cons and gave advice about all the other stuff like straps and amps, lessons and instruction books,. We were not pressured to buy. We took a week to think and research and were excited to come back. Super friendly and helpful.
Friendly and helpful staff. Purchased an electric cello online and took it in to have the bridge installed. Work was done the same day and it plays great. Thank you!
Love this shop! Dude at the counter was repairing a guitar while henhelped me. Very good multitasker! Answered all my questions. This is my new shop. Closer than PMC and better than Guitar Center!
I took my violin in for adjustments. They gave me a quote and did the work expected. When I tried it out I had some complaints (just personal preferences, not something they did wrong) and they continued to work on it until I was satisfied. They still charged me what they said they would. I was impressed. They are now making some other adjustments because I decided they are someone I can trust with my baby.I also love the small town feel of the store. It reminds me of the stores my grandpa and I frequented in Kansas and Arkansas. My daughter is now taking guitar lessons there. Just a great store all around.
Always great help with guitar needs. And friendly regarding the curious kiddo who wants to touch everything! Haha
I enjoy this locally owned music store. Many different types of instruments are available. Everything from band to orchestra to garage band. I have purchased two guitars from them and each one was set up well and a quality instrument. I have always received good service. They have a good range in price from entry level to high end.
Thank you Nate for taking your time and helping me choose the right amp. You the man. They also have great discounts on products rn
Took my clarinet in for repair and the guy I spoke with was very rude didn’t seem like he wanted to answer any questions. I asked for a quote he said he would call me in a couple days with it. I called them back 2 weeks later and they said they had the quote. So who knows how long my instrument had been sitting there not being worked on.I went to pick up my instrument since he said it would be close to 400$ to put some new pads on. I asked if there was something wrong with it and the guy wouldn’t say anything. Took it to someone else and he did it in a week for 200$. Definitely avoiding this place in the future.
MIR Music was a fantastic place to help me find the right instrument and the right tools. I emailed in with a question and a budget - same day I received feedback from Jack. Jack was very helpful and patient. The next day I walked in and Nate helped me find the guitar Id spoken with Jack about and gave me even more information and discussed options with me. Nate and Jack passed along knowledge and information. Nate made sure to inform me of the teachers they have available. I walked out with the instrument I needed and additional items I needed to get started - ON BUDGET.Stellar. I will be back and I look forward to working with MIR Music in the future.
Awesome local music shop with friendly employees. I much prefer this store to the larger music chain stores. They also have a good variety of small fun instruments for kids.
My buddy and I take our guitars into the shop from time to time for some fixes and they sure take care of you for what is fair. Theyre definitely customer oriented and focus on your experience being great!
Excellent service I like to go to a business ask questions and have them tell me exactly what to expect Mister muir has good service whatever you want hes got it and it was great got a flute cuz ours would not be good to even fix so we bought another one from him
This store is very small and doesn’t have many guitar varieties. However, they do have instruments for band.
Ive had excellent guitar setups, acoustic pickup install, and repairs done here. Very helpful advice and customer oriented store!
Great little gem of a store with everything you expect and those few things that you have not yet learn.
I walked in here because I had time to kill and left my guitar at home. I was greeted by a friendly and knowledgeable sales clerk. They had a number of nice guitars in a variety of price ranges. They carry all types of instruments including brass, woodwinds, keyboards, guitars, etc. I almost got another guitar while I was there. Good deals on sound equipment such as speakers, amps, and mixers. I will be returning when I am ready to buy yet another guitar.
This very unique and personable Home Town Music Store truly satisfies my quest in musical understanding. There are many stores around us, but they dont have the heart and soul that they possess. Jack and Nat have never failed to welcome me and are always ready for my many questions (and put up with my tendency to talk endlessly). They are always polite and kind. It is small, but very friendly and comfortable. Their selection of instruments seems endless. I bought my most recent guitar from them and it (and they) have exceeded my expectations. If you have a musical need or questions they should be your first choice!!😊👍👍👍
Tried to use my in store credit after they refused to refund my money. Now they refused the in store credit. Im just out my money. Nothing anyone can do. Just dont shop them. I dont reviews but I felt you should know. God bless.😀
They had the items we wanted, but the service wasnt very friendly and the guy seemed annoyed that we were there.
Super nice shop, fair prices best shop around ask for Nate
I went into Mir Music in Hillsboro for the first time last week and discovered a great shop with a great staff. They treat both young starting musicians and adults beautifully. I was able to get the information that I needed on acoustic pickups from Jack and wound up purchasing exactly what I needed. I will be loyal to them going forward.
10 /10 - My family have been coming here for as long as I can remember, weve bought multiple instruments. Recently had my viola case repaired, they did it quick and excellent job. Also bought some strings. People are nice and knowledgeable.
Fantastic little music store. Instruments to buy or rent. Has been in business for years! Lessons available as well!! A good variety of very talented teachers. Oh yeah, the repair guy is very knowledgeable too!!
Very knowledgeable staff. Small but adequate inventory, great at repairs and can order instruments if you already know what you want. Reasonable prices, great service!
They are VERY friendly. However, during peak seasons, I think it would help to have at least 2 people working the registers because instrument rentals slow down the customer service. Before I go, I have to understand that it may take me a while. After receiving a reply from the owner, I wanted to share the following. As a new band director in Hillsboro, I am very eager to support our local store. The previous band directors used a different vendor, but, I want to learn about the options we have in our area. The intent of my review was to improve the service of our local music store. As new person to the community, I wouldnt care if youre missing an employee. I hope you reflect on this experience and I will continue to support your effort. My rating remains the same.
Best little music shop I know of. Knowledgeable and helpful
Great service. Renting a trombone here was painless. Very happy with the cost of renting.
MIR is awesome! As soon as you walk in you feel youre welcomed into a wonderful community. The owner is a hoot and all the teachers are outstanding. Employees are knowledgeable and great to customers. The store is is amazingly stocked! Its maybe an eighth the size of Guitar Center but its got everything theyve got. (also you dont feel overwhelmed going to MIR like you do going to Guitar Center. MIR is calm and friendly. Guitar Center is.... just saying) MIR has all the drum stuff I ever need for myself and all the violin stuff I need for my niece.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Fantastic store with friendly staff. Im always impressed by their wide variety of instruments and the quality of repair work they do.
Stopped in here to get an ukulele from my daughter 7th birthday. Mark helped pick out the perfect one and didnt try to sell us anything we didnt need. Will definitely be using them for my future music needs.
I always go to MIR to tune up my tenor sax. Fast, great job and not expensive at all. The store, although small, is full of great instruments. I could spend few hours there. Always great service.
Mir Music is a great local music store. I took a couple instruments into the store to get repaired. I was greeted by Jack, the owner, who at first seems very gruff. But after talking with Jack just a couple of minutes, I could tell that he is a kind person with a love for the business. He is extremely knowledgeable and has very fair prices. I highly recommend this music store.
Love, love, love this BIG-little music nook. Fine selection with a few real standouts... Go there, experience MIR and see if you can find em. Some pretty important & fascinating people on locale. Not a single slouch instructor in the house. Some big name instructors with a variety of teaching styles that set this joint apart in its ability to adapt to a variety of musical learning goals. Honorable mention to the owner, Jack... Class act with a Knowledge and love for the animal (music) that is 2nd to none. Tip of the hat, Eyes on sparkle to MIR Music located in Hillsboro. Worth the trip and the travel even for her locals.Your friendly Google Guide of I may assist,~JellyJam
In need of a rental, or looking to purchase an instrument? Need one repaired? Or are you looking for music teachers? MIR Music is the place to go. They are knowlegdable and affordable. Weve rented instuments from Jack for nearly 15 years. Weve bought one or two from him, too.
You can get pretty much anything you need at this place. Lessons, parts, music, instrument repair. Great staff who really know what theyre doing and how to handle instruments.
Great local business! This business supports our schools & offers classes & instruments for all ages. Outstanding knowledge of instruments & repairing them. Very impressive music store.
Fixed my guitar on the spot for less than I expected! Always helpful. I am happy this is my local music store. Ive only been here 3 times so far but I know I will be back.
I took my guitar in to have it cleaned and restrung, the gentleman that helped me was very helpful and thorough. I perused the store for a while as he worked on the guitar, they have some very interesting pieces, some very nice pieces and some affordable started instruments of all types, wind instruments, string instruments, percussion, and keys. I particularly enjoyed the strings, they had some very unique looking guitars and some cery cool looking little amps for ukuleles and acoustic guitars. I had called ahead to see if they had time and to see how much it might be, he gave me a high ball park, you know for just in case scenarios, because i bought some picks and some batteries for the onboard tuner and it was still less than what he quoted me. So that was real nice. All in all it was a great experience. I’ll be back and I would strongly recommend people to go here for good service. Support local music!
Great little music store. Ive been a customer for several years, have bought instruments, music, supplies, etc.; taken guitar lessons from Jack, had repair work done by the staff. Always knowledgeable, efficient, helpful and a nice, low-key atmosphere. Jack has a great selection of instruments and a huge inventory of rental instruments for kids. He and his teachers (many of whom play in his band) are devoted to passing on their passion for music to their students -- and it shows in the kids performances. A sweet little place, more personal and fun to do business with than the big, slick stores. Highly recommended.
Excellent selection and service. They fixed the tuning head on my guitar and it works great. Restrung it also. They had a bunch of guitar stuff I was looking at online also and I didnt have to ship it, which is great. Knowledgeable and friendly.
Staff Know Instruments, and are Courteous and Friendly. Good place for Repairs on Instruments. Fair Pricing.
I have known jack for over 12 years. Each time I enter, I am greeted with a warm welcome. Jacks willingness to help, his knowledge of his instruments and his integrity are all commensurate with what it takes to have a great store. Another plus side is that I have counted him among my friends in the process.
I have a bass which without exaggeration has spent the last two years in the shop - Ive spent almost $200 in diagnostic charges at three different Authorized repair shops without anyone being able to figure out the issue. Chris at Mir correctly diagnosed it in about 10 minutes, and once he had the part fixed it in 15 ... oh, yeah, and for a total of $15. Im stunned, and impressed. Mir will be my go to spot from this point forward.
Small store with an eclectic selection. He has guitars, basses, mandolins, ukuleles, a bouziki, band instruments and a guitar banjo. The owner is quite helpful too.
Nate was a great help in picking out a guitar. He was able to answer all my questions. Great store!
I would not trust MIR with musical instruments beyond something relatively easy to fix. I am clarinetist of 8 years and time and time again my fellow bandmates have gone to get their instruments fixed and have to wait for insane amounts of time. I would understand this as it is a small business and has for simple things been very quick. However, many times the instruments have come back unfixed or even worse. My experience has only been with woodwind instruments, they may be better with others, but I would not trust them with my instrument.
This is an amazing local business. Everyone there is helpful, caring, and understanding. Not only to they have awesome instruments, music, and other items, they are hands down the best place to rent an instrument. Their support and prices cant be beat.
Ordered a custom G&L bass through Mir, and had a great & easy experience start to finish. Highly recommended!
Nice little music store. Has plenty of instruments. Nice people. Music lessons for a fee.
One of favorite places to shop for instruments and materials. Ive never been disappointed in what I find here. (And I swear someday Ill get that lute I saw in the window, lol)
Great repair on my strat at a great price. Were quick and responsive.
On October 29th. Myself and my wife entered the store to return an item. We were told of the return policy and understood it. The way we were treated was unbelievable. Rudely was just the start of how we were told of the policyI dont want to get into the policy. More about what kind of custom relationship you might find. I need to return the rest of the purchase and will keep you posted with a video on how that goes. And will post on my Wed site the out come. Please feel free in protesting with us legally October 31. Downtown near or in front of Mir Music.People need to know of their behavior towards customers. You may find your school or district is using there service. You may want to rethink this and use another shop.I right this review in hope that it helps you understand that it was not just a person having a bad day and chalk it up to that. This is practiced behavior and rudeness. My father told me you never know who stands behind the person your dealing with. Dont understand estamate them.I wanted to make sure that it was understood in my first opening sentence that myself and my wife understood the store policy. That was not the issue. How I was treated and my wife was inexcusable. Language that cannot be used in this form. That is where the issue lied. And as you can see by the response of the owner they totally missed what I was trying to write in this review.UPDATEThank you for all of your support other music shops have reached out to our organization and we found a good affordable match for us. Hope that can be the same for the rest of you. Thanks again for all your support.
Nice Small Town Music Store. Good assortment and friendly staff. Prices were under what it costs on the internet.
This place is awesome, the people there are very helpful ... Better price then othe stores .
Great Service. Arranged me with a great clarinet. I will come here for all my music needs.
So many beautiful instruments! A little tight, but wow, music, even brass! Cheers
Staff was very helpful and I really enjoyed my time in the store.
I always rent and but music needs from this store. Their rent to own program is great, especially if you or a family member is unsure if playing a certain instrument is something they want to do seriously or casually.
The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable! A cute little place!
Its just a really really great music store!
I bought a guitar here and the staff was super helpful and patient with all my rookie questions.
I have purchased several items from this music store and the help is great when you have questions.
Not friendly at all. Shop somewhere else.
Very nice and polite staff, great teachers, many instruments, and very clean
Both of my kids take music lessons here. This place is awesome
This is a great mom & pop music store.
Unbelievable experience, so bad it was almost funny, except for the time my daughter and I wasted at the store. Went there to rent a violin since my daughter was interested in giving it a try. There is a guy behind the counter, who never introduces himself, but whose name I later learn is Jack. Frankly, Jack does not seem that enthused to be there. Anyways I explain what we are looking for and Jack runs through what the costs would be, which were fine. But then, as if worn out by explaining the rental costs, which I admit were a bit convoluted, he then changes tack and tries to sell us a violin. I remind him that my daughter just wants to try it out and see if she was really interested. So, he backs off trying to sell us a violin. When I go to pay for the rental, he asks for a drivers license and two credit cards. Two cards seems a bit excessive, especially for an all-in rental cost of less than $150, but whatever, that’s their practice. But then he hands me some paperwork to complete, name, address, phone number - ok, no problem. But then it asks for SSN#, birthdate...and that’s when I balk. I explain that I’m uncomfortable providing that information due to the risk of identity theft (I work for a bank, for heavens sake). Jack, says they need that information to track me down if I don’t pay. (Seriously? They have my drivers license number, physical address, etc.). I again state I am not willing to provide that information. Jack says “Ok”, picks up the paperwork, walks around the counter and into another room. I stand there like a big dope naively thinking that he’s filing the paperwork away or picking up the case for the violin. (Interestingly, while we are standing at the counter, another customer in the store, hearing our exchange, came up and agreed with my position about not providing my SSN#, etc.)Well, it turns out Jack has shredded the paperwork (he obviously has taken personal offense to the whole identity theft thing) and when he returns, takes the violin off of the counter which had been sitting in front of my daughter and I. Only now is it dawning on me that I will not be renting a violin from Mir Music, due to my “unwillingness to move forward”, per Jack. Interesting car ride home with my daughter as I tried to explain what happened. Truly a bizarre experience....but you may want to consider an alternative music store if you are looking to rent an instrument.
Im not sure how they can charge so little to do work on guitars and still be in business, but I appreciate it and find them to be a really nice bunch!
Amazing store great costumer service.10/10 will definitely be coming back.
Excellent customer service. All repairs to my daughters clarinet have been top notch.
Nice people but very slow on repairs. We brought a rental instrument in for a repair and were told 1 to 3 days and the repair took 9 days (after much pushing).
Great local music store with experienced and knowledgeable staff. Highly recommended for all music needs.
Wonderful little music store. Friendly owner and staff.
Great to buy musical instruments the owner was very helpful
Small, locally owned music store. Can take lessons here for many instruments.
Replacement for violin strings done right then and there vs guitar center off of Scholls Fy wanted it left overnight or more for same thing.
Not a real big shop, but they pack everything they possibly can in there. This place is a staple Hillsboro small business!
I meant to write owner Jack! Jack Stern, (not Nick). I dont know any Nick! Also, the guitar teacher, Joe, is Joe Aloia.
Great music shop with reasonably priced lessons!
This guy fixed my harmonica and cleaned it for free.
I went in for a guitar and the guy sat in the back and avoided coming out. Awkward. Wouldnt spend a penny there now.
Great little small business music store with a Great selection of teachers
I have been going into Mir for a while. Its the only semi-interesting music shop downtown Hillsboro. Waz Up went out of business and was replaced with Five Star Guitar...I have had a few experiences, which all boil down to me never stepping foot into that store again:My first experience was bringing in an ukulele to be repaired. They gouged me on the price, but I didnt know any better until the job was done. Pretty lame start.I often went in to look around, ask them if they could order something from Mid-east, and bounce ideas off of the staff, but wouldnt buy most of the time. I got to know the staff by name, and shared my projects with them. Unfortunately Jack is all about making money, not passionate about music. Also, their catalogues are outdated, so current pricing is not accurate.I have had good experiences with Joe - his heart is in the music, and he is willing to help and come up with creative solutions in addition to making revenue for the store. But he isnt always working...Chris reached out to me online when I posted an ad on Craigslist selling instruments. He quoted me a price, then backpedalled when I brought them in. Another time, I brought in a drum to trade in and Chris raped me on the value. Yet another time, I saw they had posted an ad on Craigslist asking people to trade in instruments, so I brought in another couple of drums in good shape, and Chris refused to buy outright. There was no logical reason for this. I referred to the ad online and he adamantly refused to purchase exactly what was posted on the ad.The final straw was when I went in the store with the intent to purchase cymbals. There were a few people waiting at the counter, and I stood in line to ask Chris if there were any more cymbals in the drum room in back. He literally ignored me when I got up to the counter, while he dug around and shook a guitar, trying to get a pick out. When I threw up my hands and started for the door, he called out and tried to justify his discourteous behavior by saying he couldnt do two things at once. So, he admitted to ignoring me and failing to provide customer service in favor of getting a pick out of a guitar. I told him to learn how to run a business. Then he tried to flip it around on me and told me to get out, as if I had caused trouble.Bottom line, screw this place. There are better deals and far better customer service opportunities elsewhere!
Awesome service!!
I took a vintage Silvertone arch-top in to Chris at MIR Music and it had a serious curve to the neckand no truss rod. It was unplayable even as a slide guitar. He charged me 100 bucks and leveled the neck and put new frets and it plays like a new guitar. It is a trip it seems like a different guitar. When I got it back all the metal was claen and shiny and the guitar itself was clean and shiny. I have taken him 7 of my ten guitars and I will have my whole guitar collection setup by Chris before Christmas. His setups are buttery smooth and you can tell his heart is in his craft. He comepletely respected me zand my axes. I am not sponsored by MIR Music, but before I left the first time Chris simply asked me please leave a review online about your experience here. Nothing more nothing less no discount just a happy camper here.
Expensive, but the staff are very knowledgeable and really care about your well-being as a musician.
Excellent local downtown Hillsboro music store!
Excellent customer service!
Best selection, teachers, and certified repair work
Helpful staff
Drum instructor is the best.
Ive bought way too much stuff from this place to not love it, not to mention, they have a great selection of QUALITY instruments.
Well they didn’t have what I was looking forAnd that why on line order are getting more popular
Old school awesome music store!!!!!
Excellent music store
Great place!
