I appreciate the effort to make everything from search and from local produce. The service and friendliness of the staff were exceptional. The pastries are excellent but do sell out. The biscuits n gravy and croissant with bacon eggs n cheese were good and didn’t taste heavy. The oregon heritage sandwich had very tender pork in it but i felt there were too many different flavors and textures. Sometimes less is more. The chips that came with it were delicious and i suspect were home cut chips. The cappuccino was huge! The only thing i disliked was the americano. The americano was way too hot (guessing close to 210) and tasted burnt.
My family and I visited this place for lunch. My veggie sandwich was awesome and my soup was so delicious and savory. The staff were very nice. Ill be back!
South Store Cafe recently catered our event and we felt that their food and drinks absolutely made the day! Chef Emma Garewal put together a wonderful brunch menu that included melt-in-your-mouth Belgian Waffles with the freshest berries and cream, eggs Benedict (where guests wanted to film the sous vide egg being cracked over the top), Stratas, Scholls Salad, the absoliutely best ever cinnamon rolls, and much, much more! They made to die for mimosas with fresh fruit puree. Unsolicited comments came in about how amazing the food was - it felt like home cooking but elevated, what a friendly group of people they were, how beautifully presented the plates were, I went back for seconds and thirds. We feel so lucky that South Store Cafe agreed to take on a challenge and cater our event, and feel even luckier that we live nearby and can continue to enjoy their food as often as we want. We recommend South Store Cafe 100% for not only the best food around, but an amazing chef (Emma Garewal) and a super friendly group of people!
Absolutely perfect little spot out in the “country”. The food is made from scratch every day and the setting is in the beautiful farmland just minutes away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The restaurant itself is an old farmhouse with original architecture, seats, tables, and various decor. The staff is friendly and helpful, and gives a family-run vibe. The food and coffee are great- definitely check out the biscuits and gravy! A great spot for breakfast, lunch, or brunch. Take a nice drive out on a sunny day and treat yourself to this local gem.
We enjoy this little gem of a diner at least once a week. The staff is wonderful and doing their best during a difficult pandemic situation. The food is always good and the dessert window is a must...my weekly calorie budget gets blown at South Store and its worth it every time.Be nice to your servers and staff, every restaurant is understaffed, those who come to work to serve you need your patience and support.
Excellent in every aspect! A little expensive but so is everything these days. Everything was made in house and was wonderful!
Check this little corner of the world! Located in a far corner or who knows where exactly in Hillsboro (just use your Google map to find it.) Atmosphere was relaxing, food was very yummy! And the desser was delicious. I dont have pictures to share but will make sure to update my review with some pictures later on!
Always great food! Will be able to Dine-In next week!!!! Right now patio dining only!
Wonderful salad! Remodel to be done mid-August (hopefully) so we can again enjoy eating inside. Great place to go.
ALWAYS great food. Too bad pandemic doesnt allow us inside. But I called from in the parking lot and got my sandwich and salads in less than ten minutes in spite of the fact they were busy. I appreciate the good service too!
This spot is a perfect hidden gem! Great lattes and good food. Menu is more limited spring the week so if you want all their options stop by on the weekend.
Very friendly staff, I tried the turkey pesto half sandwich with white bean soup and it was delicious. There are 3 dining areas (2 inside and a patio that extends the length of the house) so whichever side you park on you can walk inside even though it may seem like that door isnt right. I guess I should mention that its built like a 2 story house. The turkey wasnt as savory as I was expecting but you cant go wrong with pesto lol. The soup was a little on the small side but the croutons were still crunchy when I was eating it so it is tailored to order. Theres a cute little garden on the side and limited parking but seating is also sparse so it balances out. Just dont park on the street or you will get a ticket.
Good food; Bad parking. The parking situation was ridiculous. They have two entrances; one is a small parking lot with no room to turn around that is met by the other, one way(opposite of course) direction entrance. They arent doing Dine-In yet, and figuring out where to order was confusing. All of that aside, the food we tried was very good and the food we didnt try all looked yummy.I tried the Chicken Salad Sandwich and the Pesto chicken sandwich. Both were very tasty and had a generous amount of chicken. The bread was nice and soft with a chewy crust. You can tell this is a beloved cafe in the area by the locals that stare and giggle at first time visitors struggling with the parking and ordering routine
Unique gem in our community! They have remained open for take-out the majority of the pandemic... and thank goodness because their coffees are amazing, and you just cant find pastries or sandwiches as good almost anywhere.... seriously! Cant wait for them to reopen to indoor diners after the remodel!!!
Food was excellent! Service was even better. They were super busy the entire time we were there but we still had exemplary service.
One of my favorites. Nice out of the way destination with delicious food.
Love the place but its time to reopen for in-cafe dining.
Delightful place, delish soup and sandwich and lavender latte! We ate in the back garden area and it was great.
I grew up in these parts. Id go to the South store before it was the thing to do. Its always been a transport back in time to sweeter days to when life was at a slower pace and farmers didnt have cellphones. Its great coffee, quality baked goods, solid sandwiches, and a laid back weeks breakfast. Hope this place will always bring local history to life in rapidly changing Scholls.
This local gem has been around for a while and its always special to visit. I have memories going as a kid and loving it and now I appreciate the amazing food even more. Every sandwich is one of the best sandwiches Ive ever had and they always have a great selection of delicious pastries! I also love that they have a variety of options for different diets and they use so many local ingredients.
Chez Panisse in Scholls...please be open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and dessert, and delivery!!!! Off the chart with everything they choose to offer.
This place has amazing food! Even the coffee is delicious 🤤 and specials are always on point! My boyfriend and I have been coming here for over 2 years now. Very consistent. We also can never resist those delicious looking pastries either. The atmosphere is great too. Unfortunately with COVID-19 going around, they’re only open for takeout. Still totally worth it though.
Yummy pastries, yummy sandwiches, friendly people.
Get the garden sandwich. It is so good.
Amazing... Food...Mic drop
I just tried The South Store Cafe for the first time today & it was lovely! The food was clearly made from scratch & I loved the charm of the hand stamped bags for to-go orders. The time estimate for my food was accurate, and it was all lovely. I look forward to trying their breakfast when COVID dies down some & I can sit inside. I also love that theyre conveniently located across the street from a U-Pick farm. It made for a lovely day trip.
Very slow service and apathetic staff. Busy day today, but you can’t let it impact your customer service or attitude.
Always friendly people and great good. Looking forward to in house dining.
Quiche is exquisite. This sweet cafe offers love and nourishment in each bite. Thank you for using local high quality nutrient rich food. Its a cherished touchstone.
If you like meatloaf, the sandwich here is killer. Im so hooked I havent tried other things - except the pastries which are just as good as they look. The ambience is casual and at times communal with small and large tables. Also outside seating which is almost always shady. Charming, homey - a great place for breakfast and lunch/brunch.
Boring food and bad customer service not to mention they are way to WOKE and liberal.
Most incredible pastries in the state by far!
You know how you drive through a country road and see a cute little cafe on the corner and as you pass it you imagine that inside it has rich coffee, richer conversations, and food that reminds you to enjoy the moment? This is that place. Stop here and enjoy homemade pastries, great breakfast sandwiches, good coffee, and enjoy the friendly country-store ambience.
Cute little cafe on the side of the road. My family stopped on a whim as we drove by and everyone found something they wanted. They have good gluten-free options too.
Not sure I can add much more to what other reviewers have already said. If you havent been here you must try it! Comfortable, friendly country atmosphere. Nice indoor and outdoor seating. Great friendly efficient staff. And the food - some of the best scones and biscotti anywhere. If you are lucky enough to visit when they have their mango-coconut scones make sure to try them. Generous sandwiches and delicious daily soups. And a great selection of tasty breakfast items. Parking is the only issue. It can be quite difficult when theyre busy. The Berry Barn across the road has plenty of parking and a nice selection of plants, gifts, candies, and of course fresh fruits in season. Visit the Berry Barn, load up on just picked raspberries or apples, and then walk across the road for breakfast or lunch.
The bacon and cheddar quiche is other worldly. Service primo.
A small little coffee shop with delicious pastries and sandwiches. Parking space is not that big, and there is some more in the back, but Ive never had an issue with finding a spot. Its a nice country drive, go give it a try!
There is no place like this within 20 miles of Scholls. The atmosphere is perfect, homey & comfy-inside or on the deck. The staff is sharp & attentive and, as directed by manager Carl, always professional & personable. The chow is excellent & natural & organic. We live nearby, so not really all that happy about a crowd coming by, but you will NOT regret stopping by.
Cute little cafe that needs a bigger parking lot for how popular it is! They have baked goods, pastries, coffee, soup, salads, and sandwiches. The menu is moderately sized, seems like everything on there should be real good. I got the turkey sandwich with a seasonal salad... Slaaapppss yo 👋🥪🥗
Everything here is handled with unparalleled down-home care. The cafe has a bucolic atmosphere so don’t expect the trendy coffee shop amenities or services of a chain cafe. This is a place to slow down and respect the pleasant subtleties of a time gone by. Sandwiches come out looking pretty classic, without a lot of bells and whistles in the food’s look and presentation, but just like this coffee shop there are nuances to everything here, despite its dated facade. Similar to the decor and vibe of the South Store Cafe, the sauces and accoutrements always have a homemade touch and appeal to them. The pastry display is a hidden gem and things sell out quickly so get there earlier than later. The crown jewel for me was the Gluten Free cinnamon roll. It actually peeled apart, as if it were full of yummy gluten. I bought it to-go and reheated it in the toaster oven so maybe that had something to do with it. But the balance of sweet, cinnamon-y and buttery dough had me thanking the pastry gods. Not sure if this would qualify as a religious experience or not but I could see myself being buried on a bed of these tantalizing and spiraling gluten free wheels from heaven.
South store never disappoints. I have now been here 10+ times. The food and drinks are great. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting. Cant be beat.
Great stop during a bike ride. They make a GREAT cappuccino and the pastries are all freshly baked and they use local seasonal fruits when available. Arrive early or you will have to wait and the pastries will be gone. Soups and salads are delicious; I have not tried the weekend breakfast menu (other than pastries) so I am looking forward to that some time in the future.Atmosphere is country and homey and outdoor seating available on nice days. Also a nice stop when picking berries or apples across the street.
Very cute place for brunch. Its a lovely drive out west, never much traffic. Order your food at the front, they have baked goods. A very good selection for brunch, sweet and savory options. I got the waffles which were nice and fluffy. Also got a cinnamon bun to go. Seating is all open, they have great old tables, we shared with another couple. It can get busy, we got there at 10 and found seats just fine. There was a large crowd by noon. Overall its the best place without having to go into Portland!
Such a great little gem! My new favorite Sunday breakfast spot. So peaceful out in the country and just cool to be in an old farm house. Food is great!
My wife and I stopped for a late breakfast today. She had the special waffle, and I had the sausage mushroom strata. Her waffle was light, fluffy, and very filling. My strata was amazing. The flavors of both meals really worked well. The location in the old building provides a laid back atmosphere. Everyone working there were nice and honest. Food came quickly, and the mexican mocha was to die for. Would highly recommend. This may be our new sunday brunch get away!
Delectable pastries and savory sandwiches. They also have a gluten free selection. I like that they provide a variety of sweetener options for their brewed coffee. Their espresso drinks are also very good.
I grew up in McMinnville and have always loved independent restaurants and country stores. My wife is from New England, after we were married we move back to Connecticut for five years and would travel all the New England states looking for small restaurants and collecting antiques. South store Cafe is exactly what we would look for in a restaurant :-)
Great place to rest after picking some berries across the street. The food is delicious with both savory and sweet options. Most importantly, the coffee is piping hot and tastes great.
This is one of my favorite breakfast/pastry restaurants in the Portland area. The pastries are divine. The location is quaint and fun for the kids. The service is very personable.
Great food. Delicious, amazing pastries.Be prepared to wait a bit due to ordering at the counter. Seating is open and with shared tables. The staff is attentive and cares. They caught that coffee delivered was wrong and immediately fixed it.
We both had the quiche and fresh fruit, then split a cinnamon roll. The food was so fresh and delicious, the coffee was fantastic, and the staff was very friendly. Well be back!
Great atmosphere, feels like youve been invited into someones home. The quality and selection of baked goods is wonderful (would be even better warned up) and breakfast is delicious. Coffee game could be brought up a level or two. I ordered a latte and the foam layer was extremely thin and espresso weak. Basically a coffee with milk. Still good, but far from great. Well keep coming back for the food, definitely worth the drive. Just needs a little more attention to detail.
Really nice place, the food, services and ambiance is great. Also, they have a great variarity of pastries. I wish there were more vegan options. Definitely, we are going back.
So much character a must stop for amazing coffee and baked goods! Really tasty!
Weve been there several times and the food is always great. Im so addicted to the meatloaf sandwich with marinara and mozarella. Their pastries are also excellent and their quiche has a lovely light custard-like texture. Their weekend biscuits and gravy are also flavorful and a tad spicy.
Hands down best almond milk latte I have ever had! I would go here every day if I could just for the coffee. Finally got to try their gluten free scones and they are absolutely delicious! When my family has visited, they went out of their way to accommodate their food allergies. You guys are great!
I’ve only started coming here for about a week, and the people who work here are awesome. I forgot a part of my little daily coffee I bring to work and the barista actually remembers what I get and made it right. The service is great, and they seem to remember all of their local regulars which is nice! The coffee and food is wonderful, and it’s definitely worth checking out if you haven’t been here before.
ISouth store cafe is as always one of my favorite places to visit for lunch. Food excellent, service with a smile and the feeling of time well spent. Wish there was a way to ease the parking problem.
Finally ditched the kids so we could eat here. Fantastic local experience. Great food, lovely atmosphere. The wife and I chatted and ate and drank our lattes at our leisure. Great setting in our home are which is farm country and vineyard country. The setting couldnt be better. Well bring guests here from now on, and maybe even the kids!
Great people with excellent food. Really solid section at the bar as well
Rustic decor and super cute. Pastries are amazing. Nothing vegan, vegetarian options are available.
The closest in comparison to a French breakfast. We love coming here as often as possible. Never pass on a fresh pastry when they are available.
Definitely a place to go to again. Good food and speedy food delivery. Would have liked a few more private tables but not bad.
I Love the ambience of the building! Bright & cherry even on a rainy day!Good homemade food & friendly employees.
Charming, rustic, shabby chic with v. good sandwiches, salad and soup. Pastries fresh. Lots of shaded outdoor tables. Parking very limited and note that they close at 2pm. Not a fast lunch.
I am from Minnesota and my sister took me to The South Store Cafe for lunch today. I was very impressed with the staff and ambiance of the cafe. Its a treasure in the country. The Scholls salad was awesome. Loved the experience. Thank you.
Hands down our favorite breakfast spot in the area. We come here more weekends than not as a family to enjoy the masterfully crafted pastries, quiches, stratas, tarts, cookies, and espresso. There is literally not a single bad item on the menu - whatever you get will be your favorite and you are guaranteed to enjoy it more than youve enjoyed anything in a long time! This cafe is not to be missed. The entire staff is also warm and friendly and they know us so well that they have our order memorized and our espresso drinks ready to hand to us as we walk up :)
The food here is fantastic. Its small and parking a little tight but its worth the drive for sure. Biscuits and gravy ate highly recommended by my son and the 2 quiches we got were fantastic. Go!!
This place deserves more than 5 stars. My entire experience here was amazing. I ordered a pear tart, biscuits and gravy, and one of the best lattes of my life. Im so glad I stopped here.
Fun historic place to go! The serving size is a little on the small side, but we enjoy the community it provides. The building seems to slant more and more every year, they should really get it fixed before it’s not fixable.
I had the clam chowder and pig in the garden sandwich. Both were excellent. Ingredients were fresh and the flavors were fantastic. Finished with a pecan roll, because it was just too good to pass up.
I’ve been a loyal customer of the south store cafe for over five years now, and can say I’ve always loved the ambiance and enjoyed the food. Today when I went in for an espresso drink to go, I was confused as to why I was being charged more than what I usually paid and more than what was advertised on the board. I hadn’t even seen the new .75 cent charge they had added up on the board for flavored syrup and the sweet gal helping me was confused by the price as well. She went and grabbed the manager for me to see what was up, and he was very cut to the chase, almost rude. I understand how things can be when it gets busy in the customer service industry, but there’s always time to talk and treat people with respect, as opposed to treating them as a major inconvenience. I’m really disappointed, considering this was one of my favorite places. Not sure if I’ll be back, especially when this is not the first time I’ve had an awkward encounter with the manager. -a previously five star review
Awesome place to grab coffee and pastries or meet friends for lunch. Really good food and coffee, the staff is always awesome. Can be a bit busy but worth it !
Delicious, fresh and extremely friendly! I wish I was a local!
Amazing coffee shop with really delicious food, pastries, and of course amazing coffee. This is what I consider a REAL coffee shop, the environment is beautiful, relaxing and a nice classic scenery!! I recommend the Ham and Swiss cheese croissanwich! 👌
So amazing. Pastries are unbelievably good and staff are very friendly. Very safe and thoughtful COVID protocols. The pecan rolls and the chicken curry salad are some of the best that Ive ever had! Parking is sparse, so come early.
Wonderful meeting place, meds more parking. Chicken salad - salad was delicious. You will love it.
My friend and I were looking for a quick bite to eat as we were exploring the beautiful countryside and we happen to stumble upon this amazing place. We were overly delighted to find its charm and food were both equally matched. We had amazing service and the pumpkin spice latte was to die for, definitely coming back!
Fun little spot. Good coffee, good pastries, decent food, at very good prices. Nice folks too.
Fantastic food, home made goodness. Comforable setting. Wonderful staff very attentive. Local favorite.
This is a really sweet and homey place out in the farmlands. The food is great and service was polite. Pretty busy but they deserve it and we will be back.
One of my favorite stops on the way out to wine country. Great food, great service. Always....
Amazing as usual! My south Store Club was delicious and the lemon sugar cookie was the perfect dessert.
