My experience was a complete nightmare! This is my first bad review. Things went bad at so many levels, very difficult to explain in a single review. I will write 3 different reviews for my 3 visits. It will take time but will document every detail of how I was abused during my visits. I took permanent hair straightening service and the pictures shows how it ended up, which is permanent hair damage. And what was most upsetting to me, Lynn started to make up stuff and blamed me for my hair damage! Like she never told me that there is risk to do the straightening as I had color in my hair. But she is now claiming that she did! Also she is saying I caused this damage by ironing and coloring my hair whereas this is absolutely false. This is so unacceptable! At least if she had admitted what she did was wrong, I wouldn’t have written this review. At the end when I realized she wouldn’t be able to fix it, I asked for a refund but all she could do was blaming me and shutting me off. I did not ask for compensation, just wanted my own money back so that I can go to different hair expert. Now I have lost $430 with completely damaged hair. My hair now looks so embarrassing that I stopped taking my photos or visiting any friends. I lost my hair and lost money. But all that matters to these ppl is money, not customer satisfaction.This lady will show her real face when she mess up something. Just wanted to warn any new customer who are still deciding where to go for hair treatment. There are couple of more bad reviews, please read them before you decide. Also check Yelp reviews! I am so thrilled with this salon! Lyn is an absolute magician and even made my totally damaged and neglected hair look like one of her website models! Besides that she was so kind and caring and gave me the exact cut I wanted. I would absolutely recommend her!

I have black, long, and heavy hair and I wanted beach wavy perm. Lynn and I discussed the curl size and my hairs characteristics for a good chunk of time and I was very happy and impressed with her service. I got the perm, happy with the result. However day by day the perm was going away. within a week, my hair didnt look I got a perm. 2 wks later, I went back to see Lynn so that she can see my hair. She throughly explained how I can take care of my hair and showed another thoughtful service. Thank you, lynn

Their scheduling is terrible. Not only are the front desk girls clueless, but its also the stylist who I spoke to on the phone she penciled me in then texted me 20 minutes before my appointment and said she had a persistent walk-in and that she needed to reschedule. Unprofessional

Neither my sister or I got what we asked for. We wanted to lighten up or brown hair a little with some highlights we both showed her pictutes and we are both blond now. Shouldnt have to pay 200 bucks and have to get it fixed. The lady was nice and professional and I told her it was too light. But why would I trust her to fix it if she didnt do it right in the first place.

I got my hair styled and trimmed a while back and forgot to post a review. Honestly I enjoyed the experience and the atmosphere of the salon. It felt like I could relax and not have to stress about much. I had Lyn as the person who worked with my hair and I find her to a pretty cool person to talk to. She payed attention to the picture I showed her of the hairstyle I wanted and she delivered. Overall I enjoyed the place and might try out more things in the future there.

Ive been going to Ritual Hair Design for the past 6 years, not very often, but I had positive experiences up until this last appointment this last week.My first time to the salon I had my hair trimmed, layered and then dyed the tips of my hair purple and blue. At first the colors were very dark and rich, but after a month it turned into beautiful pastel and I loved it!The second time to the salon, I had another hairstylist and had my hair trimmed 2 inches, slightly layered and had face framing done. I was amazed by the amount of care she took, and very happy she didnt cut more off than I wanted and had asked for.This last time, I asked for my hair trimmed 2.5 inches, and slightly layered. What I got was about 6 inches cut off, as well as inverse layers and a gap in the middle at the end of my hair. When I left the salon, I hadnt even seen the work that the hairstylist did, and trusted that it looked fine. When I got home, I was very disappointed and confused why my hair was shorter in the back layers and longer on the top layers. I did some research and found that inverse layers and cutoff are used to make the hair curl under instead of flip up. This was not what I had asked for or wanted. Im sad now because it will take me about a year to grow my hair back to where it was, and then some more to fix the inverse layering.Ive had more positive experiences at Ritual Hair Design, however Im very upset about my last visit. Amazing service!! My hair looks amazing, everyone else loves it too! They really know what theyre doing there and Lynn is so talented.

The good first: The stylist was really nice, she made an effort to correct what she could after lightening, and my hair is not damaged from being over-processed.The bad: Some poor technique contributed to my dissatisfaction. I asked for an ombre. Here are the places where the process went wrong...I have a clearly demarcated, horizontal line where the lightener was applied. It was not blended properly. I noticed during the application process that the stylist did not backcomb every section and took some large sections. Thinking she was taking diagonal sections, I brushed it off.Lift in the mid-length sections of hair was insufficient. The last 2 inches of my hair had previously been lightened. Rather than apply lightener to the sections of hair that had not been previously lightened and apply lightener to the pre-bleached parts later OR use a lower volume developer on the ends, the stylist applied lightener to the mid and end sections and was forced to stop processing earlier due to potentially damaging the ends.I have chunks of hair on the back of my head that were not dyed to the same level as the front. After the lightening process, it was clear that extensive color correction would need to be done, so she masked the uneven lightening and yellow tones with magenta (my chosen color). Unfortunately, she applied the color from the front to the back. This means that the front of my hair processed for longer than the back, leading to uneven color in the back.Despite her best effort to convince me that the color inconsistency was due to lighting in the salon, I was pretty honest in my appraisal, stating that color correction would be necessary after the fact and noted the line, which she claimed was the ombre style. I ended up fixing some of this today, applying a violet deposit-only color from my roots over the areas that were missed and its livable. So, Im down about $375 for color that I felt needed to be fixed the following day.Oddly enough, the stylist mentioned negative Google reviews DURING the session.Edit: Decreased rating by a star after being told I should have paid MORE for professional services I am dissatisfied with.

It was my first time going to this Salon, so, I only checked the rank which was around 4.5 and I decided to book an appt for partial highlight.10 minutes before my service, I started to read the reviews and I was really socked by reading the last top three comments, all negative. I hesitated to go inside the salon and Finally I decided to go, and I am really happy that I made it.Lyn was clean and she followed the COVID 19 rules, she really did it, not just pretend it as I have seen in some other places. I explained to her about my hairs which are really dry and wavy and died in reddish about 3 weeks ago.She explained to me what she can do to (1) avoid damaging my hair by applying a treatment, (2) balayage instead of highlight as my hair is wavy and with balayage the color can blend better, (3) she checked on my hairs frequently to make sure that they were not being damaged. She knew that my hair could be like gum if she did not rinse off the color at specific time. She was super responsible. I see that some stylers try to squeeze more appts to make more money, but she was not doing that. She spent required time on my hair although she could stop it as the new unbooked client came. I really appreciate her nice and kind personality.Also, she did not try to sell any products from the store to me. It has happened a lot to me that stylers told me something was wrong my hair and I should use some products which only could be found in their stores and the ones from amazon were fake!!! Lyn told me what hair serum she was using for the customers in case I wanted to buy it later. The service price was also lower than other salons... It is comparable with franchised hair salons, but much better quality. I definitely go back to her salon for hair trim and color again.

$220 for a hair trim and partial color weave. This was my second visit here, after getting my hair cut and partial color weave 8 weeks ago. Lyn charged me $65 just to tone the hair after drying it due to the brass. It ONLY took 10 minutes to tone. My first experience here was pretty good, but the second experience not so good 👎I know not to expect it to come out exactly as the picture but cmon!? I asked her to keep my bangs long.... But she said I should show my eyes and cut my bangs above my eyebrows. It was very awkward and I tried to be nice and act like I didnt hate it.... but after coming home and looking at it more..... I do hate it! The color is okay but the cut and style is nothing like what I asked for.

Went in there asking for balayage And haircut got told that its the same thing as foils got charged for balayage. 175 on website states full weave and hair cut is 145. Hair was done well but was deceptive practice. Wont be going back.

I never ever write bad reviews but I just have to this time, hopefully to save another girl from spending an arm and a leg on hair that is nothing like they wanted. I was trying out this new salon and I came in trusting that Lynn would take care of me and I just feel like she took advantage of me and didn’t listen to my concerns and wants at all. I felt like I wasn’t heard and the end result was not what I had hoped for. When I asked her to make it right, it was a fight to even get her to give me some sort of discount if I came in to fix it. She made me feel like it was my fault and my problem. Also the cost was way more than I expected and now I am down $300+ for hair that I hate, and I know that my old stylist (who was closed due to the quarantine) would have charged me half that and gotten me way better results. Should have just waited. I feel dumb for trying someone new and I am so upset at the results.

WOW! My husband couldnt stop complimenting my haircut. This is the best cut Ive ever had. Lynn was so inquisitive regarding my daily routine and she was conservative while cutting and shaping. She explained the amount of layering (minimal) and how the location of the layers would work. Best experience ever!

Amazing place to go! Great haircut and on top of that really nice and friendly atmosphere. I really recommend going here, you wont regret it. Usually people dont know how to handle my hair because it is very thick, so it ends up being too bulky or too many split ends from thinning it out. I made a haircut appointment for my daughter months in advance with Lynn. We arrived 10 minutes early and they told us to have a seat. After 30 minutes Lynn said thanks for waiting, I just took in a walk in color appointment, I’m not finished yet but you are welcome to wait here. We were disappointed that she poorly planned her schedule and took a walk in client which caused her to be significantly late for our pre scheduled appointment. At the time our appointment was supposed to start, she had only just begun coloring the walk in client’s hair. Her only goal was to make the most money possible, the walk in had requested a color, which would cost more money than our hair cut. She didn’t have any respect for us and our time. We waited for an hour after our time slot before she indicated that the wait would be even longer. She then asked if we could leave to go run errands or do something to keep us busy before returning in another hour. We said just forget about our appointment and we decided to leave. While we were in the parking lot, her husband (who is employed at the salon) came outside offering us a bottle of wine and apologizing for the trouble. As a mother I refused the wine because it could not remedy the situation since it was my 12 year old daughters haircut appointment, and she could not drink this bottled apology. I have posted this review so other mothers don’t have to go through this. I have noticed this business chooses to attack former clients who leave unfavorable reviews. Ritual Hair Design’s intolerance of the truth leads them to shame customers. I will NEVER return to this salon.

Lyn did a great job with my haircut, going from super long hair to short! This was my first visit here and will surely go back if I need haircut in future. Highly recommend this place, this was a most pleasant experience.

Lyn is an absolutely outstanding colorist. She has been doing color for years and it shows through her thoughtfulness and techniques. I love that we started with a conversation and the color I was going for and she did an amazing job of setting great expectations with me. If you’re unfamiliar with having your hair colored it’s incredibly important to have a conversation about expectations. If your hair has been processed a lot in the past, you’ve used box colors/at Home color, etc you NEED to be realistic and have a convo with your stylist and listen to them. Lyn was great with me and we worked through to make sure I was going to be happy with the color. I had bleached my hair quite a lot at home prior and had dyed it back to brown about three months prior to this so she is MAGIC. Do yourself a favor and set an appointment with Lyn.

I absolutely love Ritual Hair Design. I ran across their website about 6 months ago, while searching for a salon that does thermal straightening, and they popped up as one of the results in Hillsboro. After checking out their website, and viewing their pricing and some photos of their work I felt confident that this was the salon for me!I called to make my appointment and the receptionist was extremely polite, and answered all my questions about thermal straightening, so I made an appointment for the following Saturday.When I arrived at the salon I was immediately greeted by their friendly receptionist, and offered coffee, tea, or water. Almost immediately after, I was greeted by my hairstylist, Shawn. She once again answered all of my questions about the thermal straightening process, and made me feel extremely comfortable with the whole process. I left the salon with beautifully straight hair, and have now become a regular. I now get my hair cut and colored there, and also get my legs and eyebrows waxed by Lindi. I’m extremely happy with my hair and have gotten tons of compliments on it since I’ve been coming to Ritual.

I see Shawn Smith, who not only specializes in highlights and great cuts, but also provides me with constant entertainment. It really is hair and a show. I just moved to Oregon from Maryland last October. Fearing I wouldnt be able to find anyone good to cut my hair meant putting off a much needed haircut. Jennifer made me feel right at home. I went to get my medium brown hair a dark brown with blue and purple highlights and at first it wasnt exactly the color I had wanted but they did a wonderful job making it perfect and I am really happy with it. Cory is great and I am really happy with my hair.

I’ve been a customer at Ritual Hair Design for years now. I’ve seen several different hair dressers over the years and never had a bad experience. The salon is high-end for the Hillsboro area, but you get what you pay for! I have referred many friends to this salon and will continue to do so.

Lyn explained the miscommunication and I was pleased.05/29/2018: I have been hesitating on writing this review for the past few days because I couldnt bring myself to give a low rating. So, I self-consciously avoided it instead. However, I decided today is the day and it is something that I have to bring myself to do.Lyn, the moderately new business owner and hair stylist of Ritual Hair Design, is a wonderful, honest, and charismatic person. Her knowledge of hair is exquisite and when you meet her in-person, it is clearly obviously she has been in this area of business for many, many years. When my hair was under her care, it was treated with the utmost professional craftsmanship that Ive ever experienced so far, and I felt extremely comfortable with every step of the process. She made some small-talk as most hair stylists do at hair salons and it was smoothing while my hair was getting bleached with a multitude of supposedly skin-irritating chemicals. To keep it short, the service done on my hair handled by Lyn was excellent.Now comes the 2 missing stars where I vent out my frustration with the business part my experience. The week before my appointment with Lyn, I called in for the first-time to ask questions about the process of getting my hair done and getting an estimated quote on how much it would cost in total. Over the phone call, Lyn told me it would be $60, but she wasnt too sure and asked me to come in on that same day to get an in-person consultation. When we met in-person, she went over in great details of what would happen and how it would happen and how long it would take. In the end, before she gave me her business card for her contact number and our future appointment date, I asked her how much it would all cost. She told me it would be $110. With that, I happily look forward to the upcoming appointment... And fast forward to the day of the appointment, after ~2 hours and multitasking with other customers coming in, Lyn got my hair half done and told me to contact her soon to come in again to finish the entire process of my hair. I went up to the register to pay the bill, expecting $110 and footing a generous tip to end the day but was instead greeted with $120. No biggy, its only a $10 difference and I didnt want to make a fuss about it as we ended the ordeal it with a happy note and there were other customers in the store sitting and waiting in the lobby. I waited a week to contact Lyn again as her store hours were short on the weekends and there was a holiday afterward. I called and spoke with an assistant of Lyns to schedule another appointment to finish my hair. In the phone call, I was quoted that it will cost ~$70. At this point, I was extremely confused as I had thought the original thing was supposed to cost only $110 during our original consultation. I asked the assistant to explain why and I was given an answer, but a vague one at that.To end this review before I end up writing a full-length essay, the reason for the missing 2 stars is the unclear pricing of getting a service done. I was told multiple difference quotes and ended up with multiple different numbers. Honestly, I dont care about how high the price is, I care more about the honesty and the transparently of the whole ordeal and I did not receive that during my entire experience with Lyn at Ritual Hair Design.Overall, would I recommend this place to people looking to have their hair done professionally? Yes, absolutely. But just be warned, the quotes and consultation done by Lyn may not be said and done.
