I love this place. So many great baked goods and the restaurant is fantastic. This is a must go to in Highland Park. Everything is delicious. Try the soup.

A great local spot when youre in the mood for a good bagel or corned beef or pastrami sandwich. It is your above average Jewish deli with a great selection of meats, bagels and sweets. I didnt get any sweets today but as I walk by them I wanted to. They looked all very delicious. My pastrami on rye was excellent and hit the spot. Definitely check it out if youre in the area or just stop in the bagel and cream cheese.

My family and I have been going to Once Upon a Bagel for over 30 years. Once again they did not disappoint. We ordered the large bagel sandwiches (feeds 10) and some side dishes from them for a small event at home. Not only did Steve and Randy surpass my expectations in customer service, but the food was spectacular! I highly recommend OUAB whether you have catering needs or if you just want a nice meal in a friendly setting. They never disappoint!
Best tuna I have ever had! Try it on a bagel...fantastic! We also love the cucumber cream cheese! Our family has been enjoying Once Upon A Bagel for many years. My kids ask for it when they come home, we order for birthdays and mothers day and any other excuse we can find! We drive from Third Lake and it is worth it every single time!! Tip: Order ahead with large orders, its much faster... and avoid breakfast and lunch rush hours.
By far the best breakfast Ive ever had. Really happy they made it through COVID.Always recommend this place when in Highland Park, awesome staff too, didnt complain despite me coming in early - sorry! But thank you all very much! Yall rock!
4.5 stars! A bagel shop with a very fairy tale name. Pretzel bagel taste great with a great amount of veggies cream cheese, very generous! Service is fast! The bagel is on a smaller size compared to those in NYC, but it’s a good portion for me! It will be better if the cream cheese could be less salty.

As a lifelong NYC resident freshly moved to the north shore I have some high standards. While this is not a NY bagel it is one of the best attempts I have experienced outside of NY. The ambiance, smell, food offerings and ordering process reminds me of a true NY bagel store.I just catered my kids baby naming with once upon and the platters were very nice and ready on time.

Its a little pricey but for the most part its worth it. You might not want to go during happy hour. Its always busy, youll be waiting a long time. But the upside is the bagels are great and its about $8 for a bakers dozen. The soups and sandwiches are excellent.
First visit and the best corn beef hash Ive ever had. Lean pieces of beef, hash browns and sprinkles of fresh green peppers and onions hit the spot. Generous portion makes the price easier to swallow too.

Ive been to all the classic Jewish delis. Katzs, Mannys, you name it, Ive probably been to it. And Ill tell you, Once Upon a Bagel is just as good as the classics. I ordered a brisket sandwich, which was, strangely, served on a bagel! Im used to mine with rye, but with an everything bagel, it is actually quite delicious! I also ordered a chocolate donut, which was also quite appetizing! Would recommend for Jewish deli in Highland Park.
For authentically great corned beef stop here. Or choose from plenty of other sandwich options and daily soups from a huge menu board. Nice deli dining room with soda and juice options. Before you leave be sure to take home smoked sable and bagels for the morning.

Busy place with a huge menu! Great deli AND breakfast. Casual, seat-yourself venue. You place your order and receive a number. I enjoyed an omelet and a tasty cheese bagel. Something for everyone on the menu and lots of items for carry-out.
Deli, bakery, and restaurant all in one. Home made soup and matzo balls like Grandmas (but only of she made good ones :-) ) You want the NY experience? Order NY style and it comes pulled thick and high.
Visited the place during Port Clinton Art Festival, place was packed at the time we were there..(noon). Ordered a plain bagel -$1.10 and wanted some cream cheese with it--$3.22.. How can adding cream cheese on a bagel become triple the price??? Something was not priced right..bagel was freshly baked -delicious! Ordered some pastrami by the lbs - also delicious. Staff was very prompt with the order.
I god dang love this place. Best place in highland park I swear as long as you are okay with getting some of your own stuff. The guys bring your food to you but they arent exactly waiters but the food and the people are all awesome. Get that once upon a breakfast or a Spanish omelet in the morning and try the donuts for sure. LOVE this place. Dont be stupid, go to once upon.

The bagel was good. The eggs were properly cooked. The coffee was the worst Ive ever tasted and the hash browns were not done properly. You dont expect fancy when you go here. But you do expect that all of what you get will be done well. For a place that has a lot of self serve. Silverware, condiments, drinks etc. You dont expect to pay not much under Walker Brothers up the street. You used to be able to get a great meal at reasonable prices. Not anymore. The deli items are fantastic if you want to wait in a disorganized line.

I’ve been coming here for over 30 years.The restaurant was not busy, more than half of the tables were empty. I ordered a toasted bagel with cream cheese. I waited over 10 minutes, no bagel. Went up and asked about it. No one knew where the order was, after another 10 minutes wondering what happened to the bagel. They should have just toasted another bagel.I left, and went to Max’s out on Skokie Blvd.

This place is always great! Service is fast and the food is good. And the best thing is the choice. Well I guess that could be a point of stress for some but my point is that there is so much to choose from. We love going here at least a couple times a month.

Best Jewish soul food around. Try the tuna if you havent already. The tuna wrap is unreal good and reasonably priced. Everything a deli should be. Breakfast or lunch foods made to order and hot. Lines move fast. Sweets to put you away.

Come on a Saturday or Sunday morning and you will see why this place is great. Love the coffee cakes, and the bagels are perfect. The bagels are not to light and fluffy, and at the same time the bagels are not a brick. I have not tried anything outside of the pastries and bagels w/ cream cheese.
Prices are higher now but food is really good at Highland Park store. Management and service is very good. Bagel selection is wonderful. Love the bagels! I stop whenever I am in town from Rockford area.
I had forgotten what good bagels taste like! Might look crowded at times but they move people through. Loads of seating. The deli sandwiches are damn good as well. Especially if you like corned beef or pastrami.

Some of the best food you will find. And for such quality, the prices arent too high either. Best to come in having an idea what you might want though since the menu is massive.
A NY style Jewish deli. Everything is made fresh and prepared on the spot. Theres usually a line on the weekends but it is worth it! They do carry-out, delivery, deli counter, and dine in! Will make any custom sandwich youd like. My personal favorites include: everything bagel, chive cream cheese, lox, tomato, onion, and cucumber and garlic bagel, sausage, over medium egg, cheddar cheese breakfast sandwich. Salmon salad is amazing as well. Would highly recommend this place, I have multiple out of state friends who insist eating here at least once when visiting!
You can come here for a quick bite or a full meal. One half is a deli and the other half is for seating. A huge variety of food to choose from. Free parking lot outside with other shops nearby. Come here for breakfast or lunch!

The bagels are not really impressive by any means. The cream cheese tastes like Kraft so yeah. While the Lox wasn’t bad, it was much overpriced for the portion you’re given. If you’re looking to get a good lox and bagel sandwich and don’t want to feel ripped off, then our looking at the wrong place. I also ordered a Matzo Ball soup. While the soup was decent, the Matzo ball tasted like it came from a box. Nothing really tasted home cooked. It felt like they were trying to say, “hey were a Jewish deli but were not authentic.” I will say this, I am sure I will find other places that have the same thing in Highland Park but this place just wasn’t that good for the PRICE. I spent $19.80 on a lox and bagel sandwich and a bowl of Matzo ball soup. REALLY?!?!

This is by far the BEST bagel / coffee shop I’ve ever been to. I got the Asiago bagel with chive cream cheese and it was delicious. We are from out of state so I have only been here twice but I soooo wish we had one closer.

When I gotHome couldnt wait.... so veryDISAPPOINTED - . they were dry.maybe stale. question, what the hell happened. can I get an answer?It will be a long time before I take a drive over to get bagels.
Food is excellent and very reasonably priced. For example, 2 eggs and a bagel go for $5. You order at the counter and they bring your food to you when its ready. If you go at busy times like 11am to 1pm on a Sat it could take 15 min to get through the line to order but after that the prep time is pretty quick.

Food is okay but the problem is that I almost ate a little piece of plastic similar to fish bone (but it wasn’t fine bone) that was in my sandwich. And the bread wasn’t the one I ordered.
The plain bagels/mini bagels are some of the best Ive had. Very soft and freshest. The veggie cream cheese and strawberry cream cheese are delicious!

You cant put a price on quality and the prices here are completely reasonable. Labeling this place as a classic Jewish deli doesnt quite feel right. Its much more than that.

The one place I always visit when Im in highland park. All the food is great, but the soups are a notch above. Workers were probably ninjas in a past life considering how fast they get through the (often very) long lines. A gem.

Classic Jewish bagel shop, with a full menu of awesome sandwiches and breakfast entrees, maybe even a few dinner entrees as well. Great every time!
The food was great, but the girl serving me up front was so rude and impatient that it didnt make me want to come back. It was my first time there and I was a little slow figuring out where I order and pay and she was so snippy with me and had such an attitude to her voice... It made me feel really unwelcome and ruined what should have been a nice lunch with my little boy.

Really appreciate that I can call with my order and theyll let me do curbside pickup - I just call when I get there so I dont have to wait inside. Great lox, challah, frozen gumbo, salmon salad, poultry salad, egg salad. Bagels, esp onion, but also plain, sesame, poppy, egg, garlic, salt, pretzel, whole wheat, all season, blueberry. Great cream cheese, plain, jalapeno, chive.
Excellent goto deli in Highland Park. I usually get the extra lean corned beef and salami combo sandwich on a bagel with a bowl of chicken noodle soup. They also have great bageldogs and little pizzas. They have awesome chocolate chip coffee cake. I look forward to stopping in soon.

I go every weekend w/my family. We get bagels to go and always get a Once Upon a Breakfast. Its $8 and has eggs, bacon (we get turkey bacon), fruit (not hashbrowns) a toasted bagel with chive cucumber cream cheese (best in the world) and a drink. Not bad for $8. I have been going since I was 14, thats almost 20 years. By the way, Oscar is one of the best employees Jerry has and hes a super friendly, great guy. I highly recommend OUAB!
