Just started working in Herndon and heard about The Deli off Elden street. I got the Mad Italian and my coworker got the tuna. Both were so delicious! Next time I’m gonna ask for fresh mozzarella or try the prosciutto and mozzarella one. They give more meat than all the other places I’ve been to!

The last time I had a sandwich from The Deli was about 32 years ago. Their corned beef sandwich is still just as good today as it was then. And the service was very friendly, though a bit shy. The sandwiches are a bit pricey compared to a fast food sandwich shops, but the quality is significantly better.Oh, and the hot peppers can be HOT so unless you like that you might want to skip them. 😉

Pretty much the best sub/hoagie house Ive come across in 20 years.The sandwiches are packed with meats and doused with generous herbs. Combine that with great bread and youve got a unique sandwich experience that Ive not found anywhere else throughout Philly, Maryland and/or Virginia! - Takes me back to my youth when the sandwich shops were privately owned and the owner was behind the counter. Not just a part of some franchise using a robotic recipe.

Just a fair warning, once you eat here you will never be able to eat at Subway again. Real fresh Italian ingredients. This is what a sub is *supposed* to taste like! Locally owned and operated.

Great sandwich! Very clean, masks required and social distancing. Ordered the Super Salty Dog and it was delicious. Great service, fresh ingredients and awesome quality. I will definitely be going back.

I dont care how good a sandwich is, nothing offsets the fact that the employees were not wearing masks and didnt even bother to put one on while making my sandwich. Im really disappointed people who directly handle food would would not adhere to state laws during a pandemic that has killed more than half a million people. If they wont put on a mask in this instance what other food handling requirements are they ignoring?

We are staying with family near here and we were craving a sandwich. Google recommended this place and were glad we found it. The portions are insane, I did not need to order the foot long but now I have two meals. The meats are delicious and the staff is very friendly. Would recommend if youre craving a good sandwich.

Best subs in NOVA .My go to for 21 years. Actual old school Deli. Owner and staff are always happy to see you and very helpful. You really need to support this local mom and pop shop. A Herndon institution that needs your support. Food is amazing.

I was sad to receive this meatball sub today. Not what I have come to expect in quality from The Deli. Seems the times have pushed even solid local restaurants to terrible extremes, but cutting corners and overcharging customers isnt going to solve the problems.

They were not very nice but the bread here is good I love sandwiches and I wanted a steak and cheese the man who owns the shop was so rude saying they don’t have it which was upsetting because I was on my 30 minute break and wanted that but ended up getting a turkey and provolone “ 8” sandwich it was dry but it was what it was! Not going back here!

A chef friend of mine recommended this deli. In particular their Mad Italian sub. I bought it, tried it, and for me, at least did not like it. I wont pick it to pieces. Its just that I have had a lot better subs elsewhere in the NoVa area. Truthfully, I disliked it so much, I threw half of it away when I got home.Personally, the ones at The Italian Store are vastly superior. Ditto Mangialardos in DC.

One horrible worker, maybe the owner or manager, that is against masks. Expensive prices. Good sandwiches.I really liked this place pre-covid. I liked the Mad Italian. Though it was always expensive. The price always seemed much higher than listed.Anyway, I went there today. They have signs everywhere saying masks required, you know, because of the whole deadly pandemic and human decency and all. But the one guy wasnt wearing a mask. The customer in front of me pointed it out and said its the law. The worker guy said hes not making sandwiches at the moment, so he doesnt need to wear the mask. Riiight. They add a dollar to the price, plus the whole mysterious increase I mentioned before. My $9.95 sandwich + $1 covid fee = $13. 18% tax?When I ate the sandwich, it wasnt as amazing as I thought. Though I admit it could entirely be psychological, being disappointed at the rudeness and expensive price.

I went there yesterday. There are 2 things:The quality of their food is good, but be aware that their price is about 30% more than a typical Subway restaurant for a same style sandwich. This is a considerable difference for a sandwich.Second, I noticed something more important.There were 3 employees there around afternoon .Just one of them wore Mask.Two others, NOTHING.Even the guy, I think the manager, did not put a glove and at the same time he touched the foods.Not any food taste or quality worth as Safety requirements in my opinion.

This is the most amazing deli in this area. You really cant go wrong, dine in or take out. If you are looking for catering for a lunch or a meeting you will get promoted for arranging a lunch from here! :)

In violation of state law and common decency the management asked my wife to leave when she asked that they wear face masks. They refused and told her to leave. Seriously?? Money over human life?If I could no stars this place would get it.

I am glad that I can go to a locally run deli shop during a pandemic. They are pricey, but the amount of meat, toppings and bread you get is worth it + the quality cannot be beaten by subway chains. At the very least, you should give it a try.

Wonderful little hidden gem. Mom and pop shop with excellent cold cuts. Their bread and cured meats remind me of the cold cuts from the north east. Theres something about the extra bite and chewiness from the fresh bread. And you can also buy the cured meats by the pound to wrap up and take home. Thats something you dont find in this area! BTW, try the Super Deli cold cut for $9! Its a great value and one awesome sandwich. Youre welcome.

I went for the first time a few weeks ago and all I can say is yum! The food was so good and there was plenty for more than one meal. Highly recommend if you are looking for one of the best sandwiches around.

Went during lunch, parking lot was OK. I ordered a chicken Parmesan sub and the sandwich technician gave me a dirty look when I told her what I didnt want on the sub. Everything tasted good and not that expensive for a larger that foot long sub. Also ordered the super deli sub with everything and that was awesome. The owner was nice and friendly. Fast sub which we brought back to the office. Better than Jimmy John by a mile. Try it.

If you havent been, and you like Italian deli sandwiches, this is the place. Been going here since they opened in 1977(?), and they have been our families go to since then. Walk in and you get that smell, that old world smell you find overseas in Italy, or Greece of freshness and spices. This isnt Subway, so skip ordering fanciness, go straight for the classic sandwich the deli and you cant go wrong; everything (tomato, onions, lettuce, hot peppers, oil and vinegar with oregano) extra hot is my usual, and they throw a generous slice of pickle on top. Grab one to go and enjoy!

Wonderful deli! The lovely smells of Italian herbs wafting in the air as you walk in. This deli doesnt skimp. Fresh bread and loads of meat. Skip the franchises and try this local delight.

I have been coming to this deli for about 15 years now, I live in Alexandria 40 minutes away and will stop by every time Im in the area. I highly suggest the new Yorker the way they make it, that is my favorite sub of all time!.. enjoy

Very good little Mom and Pa Deli. I recommend the Italian Stallion sandwich. 8 inch is more then enough its huge. Meat and cheese are so fresh so much better then your chain sub shops.

Got a half a lbs of their smoked turkey and it was slimy meaning it was getting old quick. Didnt taste fresh to me, also had a sample of their ham and didnt taste good either.

This has been my favorite Herndon deli for about 30 years. My favorite sub is the deli, and I rarely try anything else. Their cannolis have been good too, though its been a few years since Ive had one. Prices are reasonable too. Highly recommended.

I tried The Deli this morning just as it was opening. I was thinking about just a regular ham and cheese sub, but was distracted by the New Yorker. So they charge you extra if you use a credit card but I dont care. This was one of the best subs I have ever had. There was not a chain of people putting on their part of the sandwich. Just one guy and he did it all by himself. The sandwich was absolutely delicious. I dont know how crowded this shop gets, but I will definitely be coming back again for another New Yorker.

Ive been coming to The Deli in Herndon since April 2000 when I moved to the area. Every time I order a sub, its consistently delicious. I have never had a bad sub or even a so-so sub. Theyre all top quality. Service and staff are wonderful and make you feel welcome. It was a wonderful day when I discovered my little son also loved their subs! So now we make it a once weekly carry-out. I will order their food for as long as I live here.

The have been going to this deli since I was a child and nothing has changed. They the nicest staff and the owners are incredibly nice! Im a regular so they know my order right when I walk in or call ahead. This is definitely a hidden gem of Herndon.

Great! Exactly what we had been looking for in Nor. Virginia for ages. Just a little deli with perfect subs! Fresh, classic, delicious. Get the oil and vinegar and the herb shakers.

Great Local Sandwich spot that is tried and true. I ordered the The Madd Italian sandwich and I was full all day. What a local gem! I will be back next week for a repeat.

The subs are basic affairs but the quality of the meat is so much higher than you get at any of the big chains. Their soda selection was also very nice (birch beer!). The cannoli was everything promised in earlier reviews.

12 inch Soprano all day. Theres enough to share, if you have to. Either way, its well worth the extra cost

I really hate wasting money on not so good food. Had the eggplant Parmesan. That was not Italian bread, it smelled a little fishy, sauce was okay, coated eggplant was too thick and inconsistent in thickness and coating was just south of fresh. Service was friendly till you do something like dance a little bc youre happy, then the personal insecurities in the younger ones come out and they expect you dont understand Spanish. I wont be going back, there is nothing for me there.

Best place in the WORLD for subs, and The Deli sub is AWESOME and my personal fav. Been going here since i was a kid (Elden street), and while ive been in FL for past 8 years, I get back home as often as i can... the DELI is usually my first stop (often times right from the airport)! If you havent had a deli, you havent lived! : )
