If anyone else is from Eastern European region, you will probably want to checkout this store.I had tears of joy when discovered some Hungarian goods here. These people have wonderful Smetana (like sour cream, but much nicer) as well as dried pastas, canned and tinned imports, specialty breads and those odd looking smoked / pickled fish delicacies (if thats your thing). And their sweets!
Very high prices and exceptionally rude staff. There are better options for Russian groceries in the area. This place went from their usual average/bad to a total disaster.
Great Eastern European Market with excellent selection. The store is run by older babushkas who can be stern like your own grandma:)
Nice little shop. Friendly shop girl. Interesting goods.
Russian Gourmet is the closest Russian grocery near me. Before, I used to have to go 2 hours to Baltimore to find one. This is a well stocked store, particularly pastries and breads. I CRAVE black Russian bread, particularly for toast in the morning, or a midnite snack. My only complaint with this store (and the other one in Baltimore, as well), is the lack of English labels accompanying the Russian products. I know that might be a big chore, but it sure as hell would sell more products. I am a sucker for trying almost anything new, but it is sometimes impossible to know what some products in the store are.GREAT homemade black bread. I will be for that and more of their sausages!
The store has lots of items from fresh cheeses to fresh deli meats, sausages, and bacon. You can also find European products as well sushi as Hungarian salamis and sausages. We love this store.
Love love this store!! Not cheap, but you will find what you are looking for. All the yummy sausages, pickles, smoked meat they have are amazing. Sweet treats, and fresh cheese..
Customer service is awful... Quality of product worse and worse everytime time I come back...
Excellent. Good selection of items and deli. Friendly service
Horrible unprofessional attitude red hair women, I spent over $300 every other week passed 5 years. Never come back terrible customer service
Just called to ask about caviar. Lady (owner Im guessing) said Im too busy and hung up. There goes a few hundred dollar sale. I am truly amazed.
Very helpful and friendly. Enjoy buying my Hungarian Kolbasz there, and European meat and other products.
Ignore the negative reviews. They arent rude. Its a cultural trait of Russians to be stern. Nothing personal.
Best imports from Ukraine
I love this store. Has Siberian pelmeni, delicious sausage, wonderful freshly baked Borodino black bread and freshly cooked foods among many other wonderful Russian and Eastern European food. I highly recommend!!
Friendly staff and great quality kielbasa
Im all about customer service, especially if you are the owner of your establishment. The owner never says hi upon entering the store, or responds to your hello. We have to wait to get some deli meat, while shes just chatting away with her employee. Never a smile or how are you, how can I help you....nadda. She actually makes us feel like we are bothering her. Im giving it a 2 because they have some good products but we will never go back there do to rude customer care.
Cakes are in a fridge and look super dry! They have cracks i. Them!
🤢spoiled food !
My family and I have been coming here since I was 11 years old! We love this place because this is our only connection to getting real authentic meat and candy. I hope this place stays open forever! This is the cornerstone to any kid who wants to get authentic Russian food and treats.
Very overpriced products are not fresh. Bad attitude.
Nice store, but has a lack of personnel. Spent about 25 min today, waiting in the checkout line for my turn. Wish they would also re-establish their licence to sell Georgian wines.
This store is similar to many other grocery style stores which basically import specific foreign culture foods and products, and most of them are small businesses. As far as I have got experience by visiting many of them in Northern Virginia and Maryland, most of them have lack of US standard stores i.e. level of costumer service, and they suffer from below average management, and many times low quality or out dated foods and other products. It doesnt matter, Russian, Turkish, Persian/Afghan, Arabic, Indian ..., all are almost the same.Saying that, if you go to any of them, you should bring your level of expectation down.About this store, I saw the same thing that I explained.Their costumer service is ok, you should search around inside of the store to find something you may like, but try not to touch things as much as possible. The store staff do not like it!Store is clean enough as you can expect from a small local business. In this store, you can find deli meats which are unique and belongs to the eastern Europe,I tried and found few of them really good.Almost some freshly baked and cooked Russian foods are available, though I have not tried them. (I thought first ask a Russian friend before try anything)Also check the product date and expiration on any food you want to buy. Careful that some of them do not have a clear date, so you have to rely on your chance and natural instinct to decide.
I am very surprised by so many negative reviews. I’ve been avoiding the store because of them, but this is the closest store near my house, so decided to try and go. I’ve been there several times by now and customer service is always great. Cashiers are always very friendly and nice. I cannot say anything bad. I recommend this store to everyone.
Sells food items from Russia and Eastern European countries. Be careful when buying anything from overseas. Someone I know found a dead fly and spider in its web inside one of the chocolate candies.
Great pastries (I had the farmers cheese and something else (?)) and fairly good selection of grocery foods. I also had the carrot salad; when I go back again it seems like it would go well with something with a light flavor. The farmer cheese was super sharp with a great, creamy flavor. Going by what other people had said about the pastries, the owners when I went pointed out to me which foods at the counter were fresh, so I guess it depends a lot on what you get and who you get it from.
Not friendly at all. Its not asking too much to want the people at the register (woman) to be polite, never mind friendly, which she wasnt. She made us feel like an annoyance, but without customers, thered be no store. Never been back since!
Very disappointing experience. I bought products in their pharmacy, Но-шпа (drotaverin) and valerian root tincture. Unfortunately, I did not check the packages at the store. Later, already at home, I figured out that protective seals were broken on both packages. Но-шпа box - which is supposed to be glued - was opened and resealed with sticky tape for some reason. The plastic cap on the tincture bottle was open as well, it didnt even have a plastic ring which is a part of the protective seal. The tincture smells like Valerian root but Im not going to try it. Especially taking into consideration that the English translation does not match the initial Russian description. Russian instructions said to take the tincture orally, while the sticker with English translation said for external use only. I suspect that they substituted ethanol alcohol (initial ingredient of the tincture) with cheap rubbing alcohol.
First thing the woman said over the phone was, “I don’t speak English,” talk about poor character. Never come to this place.
Nice small store with everything you need.
Great produce selection for a relatively small store.
Exceptional RUSSIAN Food, Authentic Bread, Authentic Pickled Mushrooms and Traditional Candies and Teas !, Exceptional Customer Service, We drive an hour into Herndon............ just to pick up the bread!
A great place to find foods, ingredients and spices not available elsewhere.
I missed Russian sausage and ice cream. Being the closest store I could reach for Russian gourmet food, I was not welcomed and cared by some of the staff there. I usually have to wait at least a couple of mins before I could get a little bit attention and I am advised not to open the fridge before I know which ice cream to buy. Some of the items are expired and you should always keep an eye on the expiration date. Be very aware of the expiration dates of the chocolate boxes. You wont be surprised if you open the box and find the chocolate that does not age well. Interestingly, I bought an expired beverage one time and it tasted sour. I returned to the store only to have the staff told me that I was just not used to the Russian taste. Please do not judge my taste with an expired product!I still hope they can do better at the Russian gourmet by improving the customer service.
Great selection of Russian food, been coming here for years
Love this place. Authentic.
Nice people. Nice selection. Homemade products are great. 💵💷💶💴
It seems the staff did not get any training on how provide a good customer service. Yesterday two people from staff accommodated one customer while I was waiting for the attention for a lengthy period of time. Then, when I finallly got what I needed (it was only one item) and it was obvious that I was ready to pay, the cashier offered her assistence in selection of product to other customers who came in later than me. When I asked her to get a payment from me first, she did it, but never appologized for her inadequate service.
High prices. Good selection- Except cards
It is a russian store with an ok variety of items. Some items are expired, so look at the expiry date on items you are purchasing closely. Seems like staff members dont really care about that. Some dates are in DD/MM/YY format unlike US format of MM/DD/YY.
...products remind me of my early childhood...gracious staff, willing to listen to my horrid Russian - havent used the language in many decades...
This store is, unfortunately, the closest russian food place in reston-herndon area. Their prices are too high and customer service coild be better. I drove 20 minutes to the store that closed a minute earlier and did not even give me a look when i tried to come in at 7.30. Troika in falls church is way more flexibe and prices are way more cmpetitive. Well worth the drive. They offer great volume discounts too.
Love it, permanent customer for years, very nice people working there
Really authentic food. Some things you wont find anywhere else.
This location is one of the friendliest location
Fresh food.
More expensive than other similar stores
Found maggots in the chocolates by weight several times. Called the store about this issue -they didn’t say anything proper. No manager, no point of contact. Also when I buy cold cuts one of the sales associates never uses disposable gloves and also eats pieces of meat that are cut for customers with bare hands. When I asked her to put disposable gloves to cut the meat she yelled at me back and said she doesn’t touch the meat only the cover.🤢🤮Last year I also had food poisoning form meat pies they sell, probably because they don’t keep them in the fridge.Several times I bought candy from them, and almost every time I found maggots and worms there! I called the store - they didnt really say anything. It is clear that the saleswoman is not able to do something, and the manager is not there.Earlier I bought from them different sausages by weight. But one of the saleswomen never puts on disposable gloves and takes the sausage with dirty hands and cuts it and puts it in a bag with the same hands. He also eats the same sausage at the same time. When I asked her to put on gloves, she yelled at me that she was touching the sausage itself, but only its wrapper, a stick. Its unpleasant.Last year, I also went off the counter with meat pies. Most likely because they dont keep them in the refrigerator.
The poorest store in all DMVs. The goods are always spoiled. Sellers are rude and rude! The store closes an hour earlier than written ..
Bestial attitude to their co-traders. Want humiliation? Do you want to see human stupidity, arrogance, rudeness? Welcome to the Russian store in Herndon!
Great service!
