Always have what guitar strings and cables that I’m looking for at a decent price. Always like helping a local store out than order everything from Amazon. Save our communities and shop local.
This is a wonderful place for new and vintage musicians to talk shop. Lots of great gear new and vintage. Try to stop anytime you’re in Hendersonville. Jim Kriss
Weve never had a bad experience here. Staff is all exceptional and knowledgeable. Were renting an instrument for my middle schooler and it was so affordable and easy, even when we had to have a repair done they gave us a loaner and fixed it so quickly.
A little bit of everything here. Sort of a general store for music related items: guitars, violins, school band instruments, used records and all sorts of other stuff. Scored 4 good records for 12 bucks.
Michael and Lillian have Wonderful customer service. I live in Florida and they could get strings that I couldn’t get down here. I like to support their Business in Hendersonville North Carolina.!
The owners were very nice and answered every question I asked. I will be doing business with them soon!! Thank you guys!!
Mike has always been good to my family and my church since I was a kid. Tempo Music will always hold a special place in my heart!
Staff was very knowledgeable and helped select the perfect gift for my daughter. I highly recommend Tempo Music.
It was good
Great local music store
So glad to see other reviews who had the same experience. DO NOT take your instruments here for repair or setup. I took my guitar here and was told it would be ready “probably about three days but we will give you a call”, never received a call, went in and asked the older gentleman at the counter about the status of my guitar, and he didn’t even know what I was talking about. I showed him my pickup ticket and he went for what seemed like forever, most certainly just trying to FIND my guitar let alone work on it. Came back and said “we haven’t gotten to it yet but I can have it done in an hour” which I agreed to. Came back an hour later, he handed me my guitar back and I can PROMISE you that they did not even touch it. Had the same old rusted strings on it and the action was absolutely unchanged. I literally got ripped off for $40 here and will never ever shop here again, and will steer as many people away as I can. I was robbed by these people.
Friendly service. Great place for musical equipment.
Excellent customer service & quick repair on my brass instrument.
Terrific experience buying a guitar for my teenage daughter. Mike was helpful, honest and gave great insight into the best solution. He went out of his way to make sure we were happy and I have great confidence that he will support us in the future. Highly recommend.
Great place, friendly people.
Wonderful place, huge supply of all things related to music .
I have purchased several instruments, strings, accessories.... I have even had some work done on my instruments here... It has never been anything short of a great experience... I Stop in every so often to see what they have, play a few instruments to see if any make my ears perk up, and have great conversations. Friendly, helpful, and professional is what I would say about this family owned and operated business.
We went to buy my son a guitar today and we were so happy with the service we received at Tempo Music. Johnny helped us and he went out of his way to show us different styles and in no way was he pushing the most expensive or best one since my son is just beginning. He took the time to show us how to use a tuner and gave us extra strings and pics. I couldnt have been happier with the service we got. I have 3 other children who want to learn to play and I definitely will come back to this store. They were super sweet and kind to us.
Dont take your guitar here for a setup. Ive been burned by them 3 times now. Looks like all they do is change the strings and charge you $45. My last setup took 2 weeks I went to pick it up the day after they called and said it was ready and when I got there they didnt know which guitar was mine (even though I had the claim ticket) and actually sent me to the back to get it myself. It was still sitting on the bench and the guy said he didnt know where the tech was he mustve left early. Very unprofessional. Dont waste your time letting these folks work on your guitar. The store is piled up with overpriced used junk. Tried to do my part and support a local small business. Next time Ill take it to a real guitar shop.
Love this store i got my Jasmine guitar Before Christmas im a beginner tempo was so helpful giving me names of the best instructor to teach me how to play havent started lessons yet trying to learn the basics first cant put my Jasmine down fingers hurt but the sound is amazing best guitar for bennigners look forward to visiting tempo in the future as i grow
I have been a customer of Tempo Music for several years now. Both of my daughters play in the local school bands. The staff at Tempo has always been helpful and polite. The prices may run a little higher, but that is expected in a small mom-n-pop store. You can always purchase a discount card, usually available from an HHS band member and save 10 to 20% though. Ive had to run up many times during lunch or right after work because one of my daughters said they needed a reed, a particular music book or a tuner and they usually have what I need.
I had nothing but a positive experience browsing the used gear and purchasing an old time songbook. Seemed like a great shop. That said, I didnt spend much time picking up and playing instruments etc. which can be a dicey experience on both ends.
Very grateful for this store~ Many of my band friends from school bought their instruments here and benefited a lot from having this shop in town. Staff are knowledgeable and very helpful if you have questions~
The reviews I just read here sounds like a different store than I remember. I looked it up to make sure it was still there, am planning on returning there soon. Live out of state, so was checking. Found the older gentelman, to be helpful and very kind. Just sounds like two diff. places!!!
Good local music store.
Very rude!!! Dimly lit and ridiculously priced. They also have false information about not running your credit. I just wanted to buy my son an instrument for school but the man at the counter refused because it was after 5 and he said couldnt run my credit. They are open till 6. Im happy to give Amazon $200 for a brand new first time instrument then give them $1000 for a used one! He was rude and talked down to me. You dont treat other people that way, especially potential customers.
Tempo is kind of an interesting store, but the staff, mainly the older gentlemen working there act practically hostile toward customers.I had a piece of stereo equipment repaired there and waited 3 weeks for it and paid $75.00 for the repair. I brought it home and it was still having the same problem. I didnt bother to take it back. It is the strangest environment I have ever seen if they want repeat customer business. Again, kind of cool store; but very hostile environment from staff,as if asking, how dare you come in here wanting to buy something from us.
After many terrible experiences in this store with the old men that run it, I REFUSE to shop here anymore. On one occasion they refused me service because after one attempt at swiping my card the machine wouldnt read it. He wouldnt punch in the numbers, but instead told me to find an ATM. On another occasion I attempted to purchase strings with a $100 bill right after the store opened for the day and the guy stared at me while I held the bill out to him before finally saying that he could not break the bill in a very rude manner. I ordered new tuners through their shop and after months and multiple calls and visits to the shop they still hadnt placed the order. Everything is very expensive there as well, of which I am usually willing to forgive for good customer service. This is not that kind of place.
Knowledgeable, polite, full service music store, great selection of goods and music lessons on tons of different instruments.
My husband and I were down for the holiday and wanted to stop in because of the signs saying vintage gear. We should have kept waking. It was a dump, lights are brunt out, stuff everywhere and nothing organized in the least. Only a small path to walk anywhere. Only cheap and over priced gear, Yamahas, ibanezs and few other low end brands. We continued on and only saw a handful of vintage guitars worth playing. One of them being a 1964 semi hollow body Gibson with a cherry finish. We walked over respectful and asked if we could get it down to look at it and the owners response was the most insulting remark we have ever received. He said he would rather us not,(if he would have left it there it wouldnt have been a problem, we are musicians and understand the investment gear is but he took it to an inappropriate level) He said he only wanted people that were able to pay for a higher end guitars to touch his gear and people who are really serious buyers! What he didnt know is are both life long Charlotte musicians 15+ years and my husband dose it for his career and we travel a good bit to buy the gear for our jobs. As a experienced musician you never buy gear without playing it. NEVER. He judged us on our age and our clothes and he missed out on a life long customer. This is probably why your business has not grown in 20+ years and why that cherry Gibson will rot in your old decaying building instead of being played by someone who loves it. I feel sorry for the guitar....
I have to agree with a lot of the bad reviews here. I prefer to give the smaller music stores my business over the big box stores, but these guys make it really difficult. Its like they dont want you in there bothering them with your business. Really odd. I guess Ill drive into Asheville and do business there instead.
I Love Tempo Music Center, very nice friendly customer service Savvy employees, wonderful, kind, and generous owner. all around a Great Place
Mike at Tempo Music does an outstanding business. His staff is top notch and I would recommend Tempo Music for your musical needs including sound installation.
My suggestion to the owner would be if you don’t need the business or money perhaps close your doors and find a different hobby.
I was recently visiting the Asheville area and found myself waiting for the rest of my party to arrive at Hannah Flannagans bar/grill (across the street from Tempo Music). It was 6PM on the dot and I decided to walk over and check out Tempo while I was waiting. I noticed what appeared to be a NS Design Electric Upright bass in the corner as soon as I walked in. I am a bassist in a very well-known band that tours the East Coast and I have been in the market for an upright electric bass for several months. I was pretty excited as most stores do not stock many basses (especially uprights that run upwards of $3k). I made up my mind in an instant that I was going to walk out of this store with that bass! However, I was immediately confronted when I walked into the store by an older gentleman who asked if I was looking for something. I played off my interest in then upright bass by saying all I needed was a set of strings (working a deal on an instrument is like buying a car, you don’t want to act too excited). He immediately told me they were closed and the only reason people were in the store was for lessons. He then backed me towards the door and locked it. This man just lost out on a sell that would have earned the store a couple of thousand dollars at least (even used NS basses are not cheap). Fast forward a week - I just finished purchasing this exact same bass online via a large music retailer (it cost me just short of $3k after shipping/insurance). One day this small business will learn it has to go above and beyond to earn its customers respect and subsequently their business. Theyre already fighting an uphill battle against the myriad of internet retailers out there in the music supply industry. I understand it may have been a minute or two after hours, but I walked in the door ready to spend money - and a lot of it. Maybe if the associate would have known I was ready to drop several thousand bucks on a quality instrument he would have entertained my company for fifteen minutes. If I’m ever in the area, I will not visit this storefront again.
This is only regarding their TV repair aspects and staff. I took my TV in for a possible HDMI repair on Dec 2nd saying that they would call me within the next few days. On Drc 30th and I finally got so tired of them not calling me back after 5 calls and one visit that I literally just took my TV back. I asked how long they knew that they could not repair my TV and they said on day 3. So I was without my mostly functional tv for most of a month. Their TV repair person refused to call me back and smelled like booze and was clearly drunk. Ill never come back to this business, thanks for wasting my $35 dollars for nothing...
Dusty, disorganized, not very helpful and everything is way over priced. I have been there many times trying to support our local business. I have never been able to buy anything from this store, either they dont have it or its simply way overpriced.Recently tried again, they were 12% OVER list, I just bought the same exact item 45% UNDER list.
Still paying for a trombone that we returned in October?!?!? It is February.......
Just a great music store
Great service!!
