The car I purchased is great. However, the communication was awful from beginning to end.They lost the title to my new vehicle, which delayed the process by about 2 weeks. There also seems to be some inconsistencies between the call center and the actual Hartford location. The call center was consistent, clear, and timely with communication regarding the purchase of my vehicle. However multiple representatives from the Hartford center seemed to be bothered by this, because the call center would essentially get in touch with me before they did about my vehicle, even though they truly had less control over the transaction/selling process than the actual Hartford employees. Honestly, it made the Hartford employees look bad.Additionally, both Hartford sales associates I dealt with were not effective communicators. One had told me she assumed I was uninterested in the vehicle after I hadnt responded to her email because I had already corresponded with someone from the call center. She claimed that she had also called me, but I have no record on my call log and no voicemail that indicates this. I had thought that speaking to the call center rep meant I was all set. This caused me to panic, thinking they may have sent the new car off the lot. I had to arrange a call with this Hartford associate the next day to clear things up. Telling someone you assumed they werent interested is just not good business practice. I was then passed on to another associate, who I was also not impressed with.I was not given sufficient information about what to bring when coming for a test drive/signing initial paperwork. I asked questions about what to bring, and was not given all of the information with some questions going unanswered before my appointment. I was lucky that I brought everything just in case because I wouldnt have known based on what was told to me.While getting ready to sign the paper work for my new vehicle, I was told it would be about a 30 minute wait. It was not crowded, and I waited 90 minutes, all while watching associates pop in and out behind the desk area, hooting and hollering and laughing with slices of pizza in hand. I understand everyone back there likely has different responsibilities, and perhaps it really may have been necessary to wait that long. However again, it doesnt look good and appears unprofessional when you have people waiting who can see and hear you NOT attending to them. I just wasnt impressed.Overall, I am happy with my vehicle, but I truly believe the staff over at CarMax Hartford could benefit from additional training in effective, clear communication as well as just conducting themselves professionally.

The process was very stress free and easy. Everyone at CarMax is very friendly and it seems genuine. When I picked up my Pickup truck, there was a small ding which they took care of immediately and seemed happy to do so. I recommend CarMax to anyone looking to buy/sell a vehicle.

Buying experience was mostly positive. However it has been an absolute nightmare trying to get in touch with anyone about my registration. I left the dealership with in-transit temporary plates until they can register it for me in Massachusetts, which now expire in a week and I have yet to get a straight answer from anyone about what is going on with the registration. Ive been sitting on hold for 51 minutes as I type this, after multiple phone calls and emails this past month and promises of calls back. Very disappointed with the service and I wouldnt be surprised to see my temporary plates expire before I even hear about my registration at this point. Im writing this review in the hopes something can be done to get this resolved.

Facilities are state of the art and immaculately clean. Service was pretty good. Very busy, agents waiting on multiple guests at the same time. I originally wanted to purchase online and have vehicle delivered. Takes a while for the transport and the vehicle to be ready. In the interest of time, I just went in and completed the test drive and purchase in person. Took several hours over the course of two days. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable, explained everything. Joe was great in sales. Dan was great in financing.

Overall GREAT experience. My salesman Andrew was very helpful. I was surprised to find out that he just finished training with CarMax. I thought he was working there for YEARS! He was very informative and patient with us. He made sure we got the car that we wanted and for the payments we could afford. The entire staff at Hartford CarMax were FANTASTIC! All the staff members didn’t care how late it was, they all stayed behind to make sure me and my family were accommodated. I would recommend Hartford CarMax to all my friends and family in Connecticut.

I had been to Carmax years ago and had a bad experience. I was very hesitant but decided to go in after a purchase my parents made. I came into the shop hoping for the best!! And with Gigi she was extremely patient and so helpful! She spent most of the day and made my husband and I feel valued!! I recommended her to my brother which he then also purchased a car with her!! I spoke to her a month after and told her I was having issue with the new car, right away she got me into the next best car once again she was dedicated and took time with me! I found the car I actually love now and am truly happy!! I truly appreciate your help and making my car shopping experience better!! Thank you so much Gigi and good luck!!! My cousin bought a 2014 Ford Explorer in August of 2020 it is now August of 2021, the engine has had to be rebuilt and they did that because it was still under the warranty now hear we a few months later she now needs Catalytic Converters done. This car although nice looking was sold as a lemon. This is not the first time I have heard stories if problems they have had whith their vehicles from this place. Stay far away.

We had a vehicle with a lease about to expire. I got a quote from CarMax to buy it from us and when we got there it was a simple and easy process. It took just over an hour to get all the paperwork completed and leave with a check in hand for what they gave us over our payoff. I would definitely recommend CarMax!!

When I purchased the Rav4 2010 on 6/26/2021 the vehicle was never gone over or cleaned. I told them the battery was covered in battery acid and wanted it replaced. I was given the vehicle as it was that day. Nate set up an at-home detail to be done on 6/29/2021 which was nice. Dunrite Detail did a great job. On 6/30/2021 I brought the vehicle back to CarMax to replace the battery. I waited there for about 2 hours and one of the employees came to tell me that a hose came off the engine, the radiator hose. I was told I wouldnt be taking the vehicle home and was given a loaner. I was called and told the part would not be in until the 6th of July. I am still waiting on my vehicle at this time.Now that they actually have the vehicle in for repairs that happened while they were replacing the battery, I hope they will go through the vehicle properly since they never did anything with it since it was delivered to Hartford from VA. My sale and purchase experience was not a good one.

Bud Beach is the guy you want helping you get a car. My daughter just turned 18 and he went above and beyond to get her the vehicle of her choice. We know how picky 18 year olds can be, but with his patience we were able to get her the car she wanted. Without a co-signer or her parents signing for her. Will be shipped in from Ohio.

The Vehicle I was interested in was promptly shipped from Mass to Ct for purchase. I found the process fairly streamlined for the trade value and the purchase price was very good based on similar valued vehicles. The amount I financed was quickly expedited and other than a little hiccup with DMV in CT the price and process checked all the boxes for me! The sales associates were polite and responsive and I would recommend this location to others.

I originally was a walk-in to the Hartford location. The people I worked with very very professional. Working with Chad Austin we were able to locate a vehicle that met my requirements. Chad arranged for the vehicle to be transported to Hartford and to confirm the offer on my trade-in.Finally the day came to complete the transaction. Chad put together the necessary paperwork. The only glitch was that my insurance agent couldn’t supply the needed insurance paperwork, Chad called the carrier directly and quickly worked out a solution. I was very happy with my trade-in offer and the final price for the new vehicle. In short, I’m very pleased with Carmax and especially impressed with the professionalism displayed by Chad Austin of your Hartford store.

This was by far the worst car buying experience I have ever had. I went in to trade my vehicle for a newer car. They paid off what I owed on my vehicle, and I ended up finding the car I wanted at another carmax. I paid $200 to have the car shipped from Pennsylvania to Hartford. It arrived within two days, but I was not able to pick it up until the following weekend due to applying for loans. Once I went to pick it up, I turn on the car and there were 3 lights on the dash. The airbag was disabled, along with traction control and blind side detection. They told me that their service department was closed and I could drive it home and come back Monday…… with no airbags? Absolutely not. Then, the front tires were practically bald, and the back tires brand new. The car only had 10k miles on it. That following Tuesday they said the car needed to go to a Kia dealership (it was a 2018 Kia Optima LX) because the codes on the car were dealer specific. The car sat at Kia for TWO WEEKS before they even looked at it and they needed to take the dash apart to look at the blind side detection. I finally went in and asked for my money back. They then stated to say they had no idea where the car even was!! Even better, throughout the course of this process, I had to call everyday for updates- they never once called me. Management could not have cared less about my experience. DO NOT SHOP HERE. I gave it one star because giving 0 isn’t an option.

CarMax was without question the easiest purchasing experience I have ever had. I was very pleased not to have to deal with the usual games car dealerships play with the pricing. That was quite refreshing. During my purchase I dealt with three people, one via phone, one sales associate in-store, and one business office associate. For each of these associates - I would give a full 5 stars for their knowledge, service, and expertise. They were very helpful every step of the way in the purchasing process. This was without the easiest car buying experience I have ever had. I provided one star per employee mentioned above for my overall review.The only negative I have is about the cleanliness of the car I purchased. The interior of the car had clear indications that the previous owner/user left quite a mess in the car. There are spill stains on the floor, on the consoles, and on most surfaces. These spills and stains are things that if the car was cleaned on the interior before my purchase, they would have been cleaned up because of how obvious they were. As it is as of right now I have cleaned a portion of the stains and spill marks myself in order to get rid of the ick factor, but I have to get the car professionally cleaned in order to feel good about the cleanliness of the car I just purchased. Im not talking about impossible stains, but things that if someone had taken the time to clean the interior before the sale, they would have noticed these obvious issues and had them take care of. Please note that I could see some of these dirty areas in the CarMax 360 degree picture of my car interior. So I know that no one from the time the car was dropped off at CarMax in Manchester, New Hampshire, to when it arrived in Hartford, Connecticut cleaned the interior.So to sum up my CarMax experience, everything in the actual buying process of the car was fantastic, however I feel very let down in the final touches department upon receiving the car in its dirty condition. Im not sure who dropped the ball on that part, but its going to be a ball I have to pick back up for the tune of $130.00 in order to feel completely satisfied with my purchase.---UPDATE: April 12, 2021Received a call today from the Hartford Service Manager in response to my issues. He was very apologetic and wanted to make the issue right. I was given the ability to either bring my car back in to the Hartford CarMax to get it detailed when their detailer comes in, or to go to a detailer of my choice and have CarMax reimburse me for the cost. Im choosing the second option simply because going to Hartford is a long drive which doesnt work well with my schedule.Based on this development - I can say that I am completely satisfied with CarMaxs service, and desire to make things right. I am adjusting my rating review from 3 stars to 5 stars. Thank you CarMax.

Instant online quote is a great concept. Great experience with the quote. Execution inside this CarMax (after the physical appraisal) was exceptional awful. I had an appointment. I arrived 15 minutes early. I waited close to 3 hours for complete service. Waiting close to 3 hours is bad enough, but to sit there and watch seven sets of people arrive after me and leave before I got to sit down with a CarMax associate to complete the transaction was simply wrong. I spoke to the Supervisor on duty. He agreed that it was wrong, but the damage had already been done. I do not know the answer, but start with better Supervision and better training. At a minimum, you need a system, where Customers are served under the next in line theory.

Worse car buying experience ever. Service department dropped the bomb several times and I am still left with a car that is not serviced properly. The paperwork portion was easy and no hassle at all. Ryan and Omika were great and very helpful BUT I am very unsatisfied with the service department. Put the car in the shop Sunday to have rotors and brakes replaced and struts ... came back a week later, got a call 5 minutes before my appointment that nothing was fixed on the car. Service dept tried to “fix” rotors, instead of replacing them. By fixing rotors, they tried to shave the rotors. Come back on Monday to now sign my papers and leave with the car, service department put weights on the car that were too big and causing something to grind. Drive off the lot with my new car, to turn around 1 minute later. Finally get weights fixed to drive off again and find out that my struts were never fixed and I can feel every bump, on top of that No spare tire was given to me after asking multiple times, no car jack and no tire repair kit( which sales associate told me is all the give out now). Had the car since Tuesday and have had nothing but problems. I asked for my struts to be fixed, I hit a pot hole and now have a flat. No spare tire, no car jack. 25 year old woman stranded on the side of the road because of issues CarMax never fixed. I will NEVER do business with CarMax again.

The facility in Hartford CT is big, clean and spotless, really well done. Every Carmax employee I encountered was friendly, courteous and knew their job well. I’ve been to carmax twice I owned a 2016 Ford Focus rs and the car had around 55 thousand miles on it when I brought it here. I bought it at 51 so I didn’t put many miles on it before this and I wanted to sell my car and I did my best to clean the car the first time I brought it in and I owed like 26,500 on the car at the time. Guess what they’ve offered me. 26,000 flat and they DO NOT NEGOTIATE on any of there prices for offers and for purchasing. So be prepared for them to screw you over! Also to add to the fact while they are going threw my car I was looking in the lot at other vehicles, and the tires on half of the older cars that are in the lot were flat to the ground. I’m already upset with carmax as in the selling the car aspect. But if I had to buy a car threw them I don’t think I would trust the work that they preformed on the car if they can’t keep up proper upkeep on the vehicles in the lot. Then what do they really do when you trade your car in. Also very unprofessional.

I would like to give a big shout out to Matt in the service department. Hes a phenomenal mechanic. Very knowledgeable and he communicated with me about what was wrong with my truck while I was waiting. I came in thinking I may need a while new transmission but with his due diligence, he found the problem and is getting resolved. Oh he also took out a mouse that was dead. Talk about going beyond. I could not have asked for a better car buying experience. PJ from East Haven is the one I worked with specifically. He made the process as quick and painless as possible. The only problem I have is that the car wasn’t cleaned prior to me driving off the lot with it. There was stuff stuck to the steering wheel, there’s stuff jammed into buttons, sticky stuff on the dashboard, and severe dirt in the crevices in the side door panels.

(Yes, the vehicle you are setting up an appointment to see) Redundant, I know. But I failed to make that simple hold request and now my car is gone. Why a 1 star for this administrative error? Got my car on the 13th of August 2021 and two weeks later Im always getting calls from carmax saying that they need my jobs number so I give it to them and they said that it doesnt match the job but I gave them three recent paystubs and they still everyday call to ask for a different number. Ive even gave them my hr number and my boss(owner) number but again so called they dont match. I did my part with the insurance, 3 paystubs and proof of address. Ive even said that I would bring more paystubs to prove that Im working Ive even went in too pick up my car with my fedex uniform. Still no welcome letter and no way to pay my car note.

I like my car, but I wished they would have cleaned the inside of the car though. Previous owners had a dog 🐕, so the dog hair was everywhere in in the crevices. Thank goodness I wasnt allergic. But I ended up having to deep clean the car and they said they would reimburse me up to $150. But we will see. Other than that, the staff was friendly and large car selection.

I purchased a 2016 Jeep Cherokee on June 30th. The day after i picked it up the change oil light came on a well as a rear light for my license plate. that wasnt as bad as i noticed July 2nd that my vanity front license plate was gone. In checking the rear plate only two screws were holding the plate and they were ready to fall out. I tried tightening them, but they just kept spinning. i ended up putting two right size screws in all four locations. I they had to go on the CT DMV website and apply/request a replacement plate. It cost me $45 for the replacement and i will not be able to get it for 10 months. I have had this plate 45 years and was heart broken. Im hoping someone from CarMax reaches out to me.I have purchased another car there years ago and had a great experience.

Original: Staff is friendly enough but the overall service was limited. After the sale, the post sale to dos were not explained as the title and registration process was all butchered. Ive never bought a car where the dealer did not have the title and registration process taken care of. All in all, I would not buy a car from Carmax.Update on 8/22/2021: I will give Carmax credit where it is due so upgraded the rating. Ultimately, all the administrative paperwork was properly processed and COVID did not help things on the DMV side. However, the customer service folks need better communication training or if they do not know the answer, just say so, take down a number and follow up. Most of the agitation occurred because of poor communications from someone who answered the phone and provided wrong and inconsistent answers from prior communications.

The process of buying a car from CarMax was not as convenient as it should have been. It was a tedious endeavor, I was not able to actually get the truck for 6 weeks. The staff are wonderful, the process they have in place is horrible. I would not purchase from them again.

It was clean, checked through all their procedures; we were walked through what was left on the warranty and contacts for future services needed; also given a temporary CarMax warranty. I had an excellent experience selling my vehicle to carfax. My only trouble was that we logged into Ally Auto loan and saw I had $13,750.06 I CarMax offered me $12,500 for my vehicle I expected to cover $1,250.06 and to find out that was not the payoff amount. There was an additional $400. This upset me very much. I think we should have contacted Ally directly so I would have known this ahead of time. I had to pay but did not budget for an additional $400. The rest of the experience was professional and outstanding.

Generally speaking the experience was fine. Unfortunately, and this was my mistake, I failed to get a follow-up item (tires) in writing. Multiple attempts to reach sales manager who promised this discounted deal to me failed. I left message but no response. Finally gave up. Note: When I called sales department, I would always go to call waiting and NEVER would get through. Even waited up to 35 minutes a couple of times as I multi-tasked. Hard to believe that a sales call would not go through. Made me paranoid thinking that my phone was routed to “dead zone”. If I called using a different # ( my wife’s cell phone) I was able to get through but then sent to voice mail for sales manager. Other work arounds were calling service or business lines and then asking for sales. But ultimately I would get routed to voice mail. None of my messages were returned. Because of this service I decided to drop the tire issue because I felt uncomfortable with the service I would get even if I got through.

This is the worst buying experience I have ever had. The salesman was great but everything else was a disaster. We had a 3:30 “appointment” which in Carmax lingo means sit and wait an hour. Then we did some paperwork and waited longer. We went through the process with the salesman and then sat a waited another hour before we could sit down with the person for the signing. All told we were 5+? Hours deep. Sit and wait, sit and wait.... over and over. This is not a problem with the people working there but the carmax structure or due to the fact that they don’t have enough employees. This was a week day. It wasn’t even busy. If this had been a Sunday, I might have hung myself in the bathroom.

I purchased my Subaru Impreza from here in November. I thought that the actual buying of the car was great and easy. When I test drove the car I saw that the interior was not clean and was told that it would be detailed while I was completing the purchasing process. The car itself also had some damage that was not visible in the online photos (a missing interior piece, a small scrape on the side, and corrosion on the plastic door cover). I was able to bring the car in to get the door re-painted and was able to get the piece which was pretty easy. I then started to see scratches on my passenger window and it wasnt rolling up correctly which they repaired but occurred because the previous owner had broken the window and glass was still inside the frame!! I am still finding glass pieces from when they replaced the window too meaning it again was not properly cleaned. The car was not cleaned the first time either like I was told it would be.... I found a credit card, ketchup packet and an entire pizza crust under the seat within a few days of taking it home. The plastic detailing was also in need of some wax. I called and asked if I could have it detailed at the Waterbury store but was told I would have to bring it in and leave it for multiple days to get detailed (with no loaner) or I would have to pay out of pocket and get re-embursed. I couldnt get clarification on what they would and would not cover for a detail. I ended up just cleaning it myself but am really disappointed. They also called me the next day to tell me that they had messed up my registration and put that I would be getting new plates (which I was charged for) even though I asked to keep my old ones. They also didnt take the old ones off or give me the new ones to put on so my registration did not match my plates and was therefore invalid. I called and was promised a reimbursement for the new plate charge but that never happened.... even after calling a second time I was told it would be mailed and never was. I love the car itself which is why I still have it but would not shop here again. My sister purchased from the Waterbury location with no problem so I will have my next car shipped there if anything.

Had a very good experience buying a car at the Hartford Carmax. There were no surprise fees suddenly appearing on the invoice - just the price of the car, which was reasonable, plus state sales tax, plus registration, minus what they gave me for my car, which was also quite reasonable. Very pleased with the experience, and would definitely do again in the future.

Buying the vehicle was an easy process. The disappointing part of the transaction was the lack of detail CarMax has for the customer. When I received my vehicle it was not cleaned and gone through. When I brought it home I opened the hood and found a mouse next in the engine compartment. I feel CarMax only focuses on the sale and not the customer.

They couldnt find my appointment due to the fact that someone didnt finish putting it in the system when I set it up the week prior. When I arrived they had to look me up by the vin number of my vehicle because my vehicle was listed under my fathers name. It was not a good experience and I was disappointed with the lack of knowledge that the people that I was dealing with of their computer system. This was my first time since I bought my vehicle that I had to deal with anyone from there. They had to order a part for my vehicle so I hope my experience the next time is better. If not, this would be the one and only time I buy a vehicle from them.

Awesome Simply Awesome Joe the Salesman is very Professional. I I recently was getting ready to purchase a Mercedes Benz C300 and the car was for sale and I had an appraisal done on my Lexus IS300 come to find out the car was supposed to been on hold but then the car wasnt for sale so I went in on 10th of July and saw people sitting in the car and I walked up to them and I said the car is not for sale too bad its a nice car they said they were test driving it on that Sunday and I was floored so I talked to the manager with his name was Eric and he heard both sides even though I was in there a week prior to being able to buy the car he gave the to the other people instead and I asked to talk to the manager of Carmax and he understood that there was something wrong because I was even there before the people who were there just driving the car on Sunday when I was there July 5th so I am not going back to CarMax because of that the guy Eric only actually heard one side and evidently Eric was black the people were white and Im a person of color and he gave it to the white people instead even though I was there a week before them
