Dawn did an amazing job altering my wedding dress, even when I needed some last minute alterations two weeks before the wedding! Along with the typical alterations, she was able to add a new belt and used beautiful pearl bustles that blended in seamlessly with the dress. I would 100% recommend her for any alterations you may need.

My son is getting married in September. I ordered a dress in July, and it took almost a month to arrive. It needed to be hemmed. I found Alterations by Dawn in a Google search, and it looked like it would be the perfect place to go for a somewhat tricky alteration. Dawn and I made an appointment for a date in August. It did not take long for the fitting, and Dawn said she would contact me when the job was finished. A week later, Dawn called and told me the job was completed. I grabbed my shoes and went to pick up the dress. When I put on the dress, I was very impressed. Her stitch work was perfect, and my dress hem still maintained the swing and flow I loved when I bought it. Dawn is professional, talented, and friendly, it was a very pleasant experience, and I highly recommend her for your alteration needs. You will not be disappointed.

When I made the appointment with Dawn for myself and inquiring for my bridesmaids I heard the enthusiasm in Dawns voice. That let me know that shes passionate about what she does. I was referring ladies and didnt meet Dawn yet. When I arrived for my first fitting. After I put the dress on. Dawn went over everything with me detail by detail showing me what needed to be done to make the dress look nice. For some reason and Im thinking of Dawn making me feel comfortable. The dress looked totally different from when i initially tried it on at DB. It definitely was the atmosphere as there was a candle lit the tone was peaceful. I made appointments for my granddaughters and brought them in to have alterations done. They were so excited as Dawn was very gentle and patient with them. My overall experience was awesome!

Dawn just made me a beautiful garter belt for my daughter. I wanted it made using material from my wedding dress and from my mothers. Dawn is an excellent seamstress. I had some curtains hemmed, and when I hung them and realized they were too short (completely my fault for giving her incorrect measurements) and she immediately offered to fix them. I will definitely be returning, and highly recommend Alterations by Dawn!

Dawn was very knowledgeable and understanding when I was describing what alterations I wanted completed. Within a few days she finished the work and it looked fantastic. She turned something that was completely unwearable into something amazing!!!! I highly recommend her.

Dawn did a wonderful job altering a winter coat for me. In addition to adjusting sleeve length, she created better shape by adding darts in the back. Made the coat spectacular (in my mind) by adding a portion of a fancy beaded belt to the back. She created much more style to the drape of the coat. I really love this coat now!!!

WOW!! I had gotten a few pairs of work pants that are really comfortable but were too long, I called Dawn and she was able to get me.in to hem my pants! She is super friendly and very passionate about what she does! I was able to pick up my pants the next morning and they fit so perfectly now! Im really glad I found her and if you are in need of alterations just call Dawn!!

Dawn is very nice, I took 2 jackets in for zipper repairs, $80.00, but had to return the jackets to have the zipper seam moved so I could zip the jackets with out getting caught on the jacket in seam. Over all pretty good 🐇🐎🐈🐕🐅🤗

Best seamstress ever! For homecoming, I decided to wear my moms old prom dress, but it was slightly too big. I took it to Dawn and she fixed it up very nicely. She even gave me two little squares that she cut off so that my mother could put them in a scrapbook. She was super nice and very professional. I gave her the dress when she was swamped with other dresses to do, and even then she finished in a very timely manner. 10/10 would recommend!

Amazing women. I was panicking that my work uniform wouldn’t be fixed in time. I couldn’t find someone to make the easy adjustments. I googled “seamstress near me”. She popped up and called back immediately for me to stop by. Explaining the job would take no more that 4hrs. I got there she fixed it while I was there in less than 5min & didn’t charge me. Bless her soul 💘

Youll just love her, hands down!! I take everything I have, from the smallest hole to a total redesign I have in mind, to her for fixing and altering. She is not only a great seamstress but a talented designer who sees my visions and works so beautifully well with me to alter my clothing to my taste, my body and style. You cannot find anyone like her with the quality, precision, care and craftsmanship she puts behind her work. Ask her about the designers shes worked with, the articles written about her, etc some time. Shes sweet and humble but shes a shining star who my whole family adores as we began seeing her back in the early 80s and have yet to find anyone like her and now have to drive from Bethesda to see her since shes moved to Hagerstown the drive is worth it though, how can I complain about this doll?! You cant!

Please think twice before hiring Dawn Brooky of Alterations by Dawn. Below is a summary of my experience. I have photos documenting all of Dawns work, and I have shared those photos with her and with the dress store who recommended her as a seamstress. The dress store offered a sincere and quick apology after seeing the photos (even though Dawns work is not their fault). Dawn responded as you will read below.*Quality of Service: *Very* poor quality work overall (large stitches showing on the front of the dress in numerous spots; a zipper placket with fabric puckering and multiple stitching lines; grimy spots around where she sewed in the sleeves; lining sewn in with puckers and large visible hand stitches; etc.), plus Dawn ruined my sash and my sleeves. The sash is replaceable, but not the sleeves. Dawn looked at the photos I sent her and told me nothing was wrong with her work, and that the problem was me.*Responsiveness: Dawn responded to my calling to make appointments, but she was not responsive to my requests for a refund. Her responses to my problems with my dress were not based on concern for me, for my dress, or for my stress, but for how she could salvage her reputation and cast blame on me.*Professionalism: Dawn treated me decently in her fitting room. When I came to her with the problems in her work and to request a refund, she treated me rudely, implied that my motive for contacting her was because I had dress-regret, and said that she was the professional, there was nothing wrong with her work, and that I was the one with the problem. She said she would work on my dress again if I wanted her to, but she would do it her way, not in the way I wanted. Her way caused the problems in the first place, and I wont trust her with my dress again. I also unfortunately expect Dawn to reply to my review in a manner to cast doubt on my legitimacy, as she mentioned she would and could respond to any reviews I left online.*Value: I paid Dawn $280 for alterations, all of which I am now re-doing myself, other than the hem. Her poor workmanship is costing me time, costing me emotional energy, and costing me money beyond what I paid her. I will not take the dress back for more of her work to fix the problems she created in the first place. I have requested a refund for everything but the hem, but she will not issue a refund. Her final response was perhaps we werent meant to do this dress together.I paid her good money to do good work. She got my money, but I got only poor-quality work and an unwearable dress as she left it. Thats not right by anyones standards.*Flexibility: Im giving Dawn a full star for flexibility, as I misjudged traffic once from Winchester, VA, and she made time to see me at the bridal shop instead of at her home.You be the judge for yourself. I do not recommend Dawns work or her behavior.
