I had a Pre-purchase inspection done here on a vehicle that I was looking at in the area. I have worked as a BMW technician for over 10 years at a dealership, and this is by far one of the most thorough inspections I have ever seen. They took over 260 pictures of the vehicle, and listed everything out in a way someone who doesnt know these cars very well would easily be able to understand it. On top of that, the price was AMAZING. I worked with John(who I think is the owner), he was great to work with, and Amanda, who was super nice and friendly to talk to. I would 100% recommend you have you vehicle worked on here. I would likely take my own car in for service if I didnt work in the field, and I dont trust anybody to work on my vehicles except myself.Thanks H&S!!!

Fixed our car when the dealer couldnt figure out whats wrong

My 93’ BMW through a check engine light, John and Gary were able to perform a quick engine diagnostics on my day off. Service was quick, easy, and painless. They determined it was simply an O2 sensor, and helped point me in the right direction. I’d recommend H&S Auto based on their flexibility and professional approach.

Had a ton of work done on my car plus needed car towed in, my 10 year old car drives like it’s brand new now and the repairs were much more affordable than expected. Bonus points for being walking distance from my home. They have definitely earned another regular customer.

Misdiagnosed my vehicle which could of cost me thousands of dollars. Lesson learned a little cheaper doesn’t always mean better. Will stick with the dealer moving forward.UPDATE-7/23/20On 6/12/20- received service inspection- per report noted brakes were in good condition. A month later took my vehicle to the dealer and was informed brake pads and rotors need replacement. This should’ve been indicated on service report. I contacted the owner John to make him aware of this huge mistake. He proceeded to pull up report. He had no explanation as to why this was missed. I received an apology with no other remedy or compensation. This is unacceptable as I paid for this service. Now I’m not sure what else was missed or not completed on the vehicle . What I received was service from incompetent mechanics. This is the second mishap on the same day. BEWARE DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE HERE.

Helpful. Reliable. But often a long wait time to set an appointment.I give them 4 stars because of a rude conversation between a mechanic and the receptionist while I was waiting on the line. But they do get the job done one way or another.

These guys were amazing. I read a lot of the reviews so it seems as though they were very good. I went in with the expectations of not expecting a lot but I am completely satisfied with their work and their ability to explain everything. I have found a shop that I will be using for a very long time. The prices are very fair theres no way you can get Great labor at a cheap price you pay for what you get and with these guys I know I will get excellent service thanks John and Tim for everything!!

Dont think twice you found your mechanic. I love H & S they have to be the most friendly, efficient, and honest people. The owner John gets to know you and your car. He is always going above and beyond to make sure that your problem is fixed. Always making sure that you get the best prices for the work needed. Definitely not afraid to get his hands dirty. Gary the mechanic is always pleasant and extremely informative and wont stop until hes postive the job is satisfactory. Tim in the main office he is a breath of fresh air he makes the first moment you call inviting. He always has a listening ear to whats going on and gets you in the shop quick. The greatest thing about them all they dont only tell you whats wrong but they explain everything to you so you can have an understand why your car needs the repair. No matter what I need done they are right there ready to fix it and on top of that they are quick. I had my car in their hand numerous times and have always returned. I am a lifetime customer and wouldnt trust any one else with my car repairs. Thank you H & S for everything you guys do. Pretty solid stuff

I took my sons truck into H&S Automotive because he was having brake issues. When it was taken in Gary took the time to look over everything on the truck to check for additional issues it might have. While doing that he found out there was a tear in the hose that is part of the exhaust system which had been causing the check engine light to come on. He discussed the options for the brakes to ensure I got good quality without breaking my wallet. He provided me the details on what he was going to do for the work as well as an estimate time frame for it to be completed. Before I left, the shop called to make sure my needed parts were in stock to prevent a delay in the repairs. When I picked my sons truck up, it was done on time and the work was outstanding! It is running great! I will continue to bring my vehicles to them because they are not only concerned about doing top notch work on your vehicle but also that you are taken care of without making you go bankrupt! Very customer oriented... not something you find often.

I like to do most of my auto repairs myself, but I ran into a problem that needed a more expert opinion. I took my car to John at H & S and he was awesome! Finding an honest mechanic is very important to me. I know enough about automobile mechanics to realize if someone is making unnecessary repairs to make a few extra bucks and cheat me. Ive found both John and Gary at H & S over the past 4 years to be honest and hard working. They have state-of-the-art tools and equipment plus the expertise and knowledge to get the job done in a timely fashion using quality repair parts and charging a fair price for their service.

I do ALL the maintenance on my VW Jetta, so finding someone to put a new clutch in was not a small matter for me. After speaking with Jon and seeing how seriously he takes his work, I felt very good about these guys doing the work for me. After driving off the lot once the work was completed, I can say I feel GREAT about them doing the work. These guys worked quick, and had a price that I found very agreeable. Whenever Im out of my depth on a repair from now on, I know who Im going to. GREAT JOB BOYS!

The car inspection process was cumbersome and confusing. I had to call a few times to get the status of car inspections (3 cars) and the shop never seemed to know the status. When repairs had to be made to pass inspection, I was quoted an astronomical price with the guarantee the car wouldnt have to be inspected. I decided to go to a different shop and got the job done for a 1/4 of H&Ss quotes price. Seemed sketchy to me. Just my opinion. The work they did a accomplished was efficiently done even though the inspection process seemed weird.

Brake light came on in my VW so I called (mid-week) and they were able to work on the car first thing the following day. I was extremely well received when I dropped the car off just before closing. Late morning the next day they called as promised with an update and asked for authorization to proceed with the work they found was needed. Their parts&labor quote was very fair and I wasnt asked for a nickel more than quoted when I picked up the car that afternoon.I was 100% satisfied with the team at this garage and I will never go anywhere else now that I found them!

I decided to give this place a try because the Google reviews were awesome, so I called and made an appointment the week prior. On the day of the appointment, my husband dropped off our vehicle for a Maryland State Inspection first thing in the morning as was requested. Service guy called almost two (2!) hours later saying they wouldnt be able to get to the inspection until after 2 p.m. that afternoon. This was unacceptable as my husband had to leave for the airport by 1:30 p.m. So I went ahead and picked up the vehicle and took it elsewhere and had my inspection completed within the hour. I give them 2 stars because although I was frustrated that an appointment I had made the week prior was given such a low priority, the guys were very nice and apologetic.

I have used them several times. I have found them to be reliable, courtious and priced equal or less than other shops. The mechanic showed me the old parts and explained to me the fix. I am very pleased with there service.

My Jaguar had not passed Maryland State Inspection, after Passing Virginia State inspection.So I call upon H&S Automotive to repair the defects on this Jaguar, my Previous experience with H&S Automotive with my BMW 750i was professional, insightful and very efficient.Rarely, do I compliment companys performance but in this case, they have a customer for a long Time.

If I could give them a 0/5 stars I would. They have had my car for 2 and half weeks now and have no intention on making it a priority. They called me everyday last week with a different excuse as to why they couldnt get to anything on my car. They called me last Wednesday night to inform me that it still had not been worked on, and I informed them that I was going out of town and could pick it up Monday (yesterday). After getting no calls at all on Monday I figured I could pick it up. When my boyfriend arrived to pick up the car they informed him it was not ready yet. He then asked to see the car as they had told us of several problems with the tires, brakes, rotors, etc. There was not a single thing wrong with the minor problems they had tried to urge us to get fixed. When my boyfriend asked the technician about these problems and why they had told us these items needed fixed, the technician stated that they were speaking of a different car. This company is just looking for quick money for little work. Go somewhere else and save yourself a headache!

We used to use H&S for all our car repairs. But we took it there to get new tires and straighten the rims, and while taking it on a test drive after working on it, they returned and announced that the drivers side door wouldnt open. This door was perfectly fine when we brought it in, had never done this before. Now I dont necessarily think they broke it on purpose, but the reason for the 1-star review was how they handled it. Instead of offering to fix it, since it was in THEIR custody when it broke, they told us it would be $400-700+ to fix it!! We have spent thousands at this place, and this is how they value our business? No thank you. We ended up taking it to another shop who fixed it for only $250. Poor business practice, and they lost a regular customer.

Had my rotors and brakes changed along with a tpms replacement, they are very upfront and honest about the entire process. Pricing was unbeatable for the area and they even drove me home instead of having to wait on the rotors coming in. While sitting there I had the chance to watch them interact with other clients who all seemed extremely happy and were repeat customers. I plan on this making my go to shop for anything automotive. John and Justin were amazing.Edit:Last visit had an issue with wiring that mfg called for the entire harness to be replaced. Only one section of wire, they offered to have that piece remade, saved me offer 1k. A+

I have had multiple vehicles at h&s a f150 that required new timing chains and guides and a 31 ft motorhome that needed a fuel pump both jobs were done by Gary the tech at the shop I was kept informed on the jobs as they were getting completed. Very happy with the service they delivered and wouldnt hesitate to take Any of my vehicles to them. great shop keep up the good work. I would highly recommend them for your vehicles needs

Not so good of a shop in town mechanic in this shop that works there are rude hes a little to expensive has inner city prices like D.C or Baltimore shop prices this the country I cant see how this shop has 4 stars probably from locals in town he knows personally thats driving up the high ratings west end sunoco is better prices everything

We have been in Hagerstown for 2 1/2 years now. From almost day one (we had to get state inspection) these guys have taken care of every automotive need my husband and I have had. They are expert, accommodating and helpful to the core. I highly recommend them.

Ive thought a lot about what I wanted too say about my experience with H & S Automotive. I want to focus more on the overall experience then just the repair jobs that needed done. We went in for a transmission rebuild job and some problems were found outside of that, like we expected due to the age of the vehicle and not knowing what has or hasnt been done prior to us getting the van. Everything they needed to do for the repairs was done top notch. Their work really speaks for itself. They also gave us recommendations for what could prop up in the future to keep an eye on. Everything they did was very much appreciated. You could tell a lot of care went into taking care of our vehicle while also trying to look out for us in the process. That leads me too what I feel is a very strong trait that this company has that blends in very well with the excellent service they already provide, customer service. Absolutely everything was communicated extremely well. If there was something I or my wife were unsure about they would explain in a way that I could understand very respectfully. Our go through with this company was a very guy named Tim. Everyone else there treated us just as well though. Tim had excellent bed side manners when it came to our van, as well as teaching us things that we might not of known. There really is so much to say that I dont feel like there would be enough room in this review to do so. Much respect to this shop. They have a costumer for as long as we live in Hagerstown. Accurate, caring, and quick service. You cant beat that. Thanks Tim and thanks H&S Automotive. Stop by there and take a chance. Good people.

Paid near 500.00 dollars for replacing distributor and they didnt do that right.They did not secure the distributor and I was left stranded.I urge everyone to get a concrete estimate and an itemized receipt for work done.I contacted five automotive repair shops and everyone one of them quoted me a price of 250.00 dollars including the cost of distributor.I.had to pay 189.00.dollars!!!You have to watch John...he overcharged and the work is shoddy.I will.not recommend this place.ever.

DO NOT GO HERE. I paid over $800 to have my struts replaced, but my car was still having all the same problems. I took it to 3 other shops and they all confirmed that they had NOT replaced or repaired ANYTHING. They would not even listen to me when I went back to get the repairs I paid for, but wanted me to pay for more unnecessary services. Even an oil change seemed like an opportunity to screw me- they left something unsealed and I constantly lost oil, nearly damaging my motor. They told me I needed spendy motor work, but thanks to other honest shops, I found out nothing was wrong with the motor yet. Unless you want to lose a lot of money and get nothing fixed but more problems set up- NEVER GO HERE.

WAYYY Overpriced...I feel bad giving them 1 star. This place is a ripoff!!! John charged me $279 to repair ONE ignition coil in my car. The repair takes about 10 minutes ...if that... and the coil doesnt cost $176. Everyone said that is outrageous! I called around other mechanic shops and each one told me I got ripped off. Moving to Hagerstown and not knowing where to take my car really bothered me but I put my trust in John and this shop. I will never take my car back to this place and wouldnt recommend to anybody. I went to Advanced Autoparts and purchased 3 coils and 4 spark plugs for $168. Ill buy a wrench set and do the other 3 coils myself. Thats what YOUTBUE is for!! BEWARE!!! Save your money and dont go here.
